Nissan Patrol ) - a full-fledged SUV with a frame body structure. One of the biggest advantages of this model is that it, over time, does not go out of fashion and does not lose its relevance. Also, a large margin of safety can be attributed to the advantages of this car, which allows the car to remain in good condition. technical condition even after 10 years of operation. But, as often happens, such machines forget correctly and, most importantly, to service it on time, as a result, specimens not in the very best condition. Therefore, today we will talk about what surprises a used Nissan Patrol of the fifth generation can present, and what to look for when inspecting this vehicle.

A bit of history:

Like many full-fledged SUVs, the Nissan Patrol was created as an army vehicle. The first generation of the car was introduced in 1951, visually, the car resembled one of the first American army vehicles. Willys Jeep. A little later, was released civil version car. The second generation of the model appeared on the market in 1959 and differed from its predecessor by the presence of a soft roof. Starting with this model, the car was assembled with a short, medium and long base. In 1980, the third generation of the car was presented to the public. Starting from this generation, all versions began to equip spring suspension. Also, various trim options became available, and on luxury models they began to install air conditioning and power steering. In 1983, a restyled version of the car appeared, which is better known as the "MK Patrol". The fourth generation debuted on the market in 1987. The novelty was very different from its predecessors, not only in appearance, but also technically.

Starting from this version, the car is equipped with spring suspension, stability stabilizers appeared, drum brakes were replaced with disc brakes, and a synchronizer was installed in the transmission reverse gear. Nissan Patrol 5 (Y61) was presented at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1997. Starting from this generation, the manufacturer abandoned strict lines in design, but despite this, appearance The car, as before, corresponds to the image of a hardy and severe SUV. Overall length is 510 mm, width 193 mm, height 185 mm. In addition to the extended five-door version, you can also find cars with a short base (three-door) on the market. The car is presented in four body types - station wagon, pickup truck, cargo-passenger van and hardtop. In 2004, a small restyling was carried out: new optics, bumpers and a 4.8 petrol engine. In 2010, a completely updated sixth generation of the model (Y62) appeared on the market.

Weaknesses of a used Nissan Patrol 5

Looking ahead, I would like to note that one of the most vulnerabilities, of this model, is considered a body. Although paintwork not of poor quality, corrosion on the body of this car is a common occurrence. Most often, rust appears at the joints of doors, sills and wheel arches. And, if there is no rust in these places, then the car was thoroughly prepared for sale, in this case, the main thing is that the place affected by corrosion should be cleaned and treated with anti-corrosion material, and not just filled with paint.

Engine

The fifth generation Nissan Patrol was equipped with gasoline engines - 4.5 (200 hp) and 4.8 (245 hp) and diesel engines - turbocharged 2.8 (125 and 136 hp), 3.0 (158 and 170 hp). ) and atmospheric 4.2 (125 hp). by the most the best option a 3.0-liter diesel power unit is considered for purchase, since gasoline engines have unreasonably high fuel consumption, and a less powerful diesel engine is frankly not enough. Motor 3.0 of the first years of production had significant disadvantage(the pistons burned out), but in 2004 the manufacturer upgraded and eliminated this defect. Otherwise, this power unit is very reliable and, with timely maintenance, can last more than 500,000 km without major repairs. However, minor troubles may appear after 200,000 km. So, in particular, problems were noted with the air flow meter sensor (traction disappears) and oil pressure in the line and intercooler (if not eliminated in time, there is a high probability of burnout of the pistons).

At each maintenance, it is recommended to check the condition of the high-pressure fuel pump, since if it malfunctions, malfunctions of the injection system occur. Also, over time, oil leaks appear from under the rings of the vacuum pump. A 2.8 engine in terms of reliability is not much inferior to more powerful engine and practically does not cause problems, but only if overheating is not allowed (in most cases, the cylinder head cracks, replacement will cost about 1500 USD . ). In order not to run into an overheated engine, be sure to diagnose the engine in the service. Unlike the rest power units, this motor is equipped with a timing belt drive, which requires attention during operation (replacement interval 60-80 thousand kilometers).

It is also worth noting that all diesel engines are sensitive to fuel quality. The resource of the turbine, on average, is 200-250 thousand km, and its replacement is not a cheap pleasure (about 1000 USD). To check the condition of the turbine, it is necessary to remove the hose that leads from the turbine to intake manifold if there is oil in it, the turbine will soon have to be changed. Also, on cars with a mileage of more than 200,000 km, hydraulic lifters begin to knock (replacement 200-300 USD). There are no special comments on the reliability of gasoline engines, their biggest drawbacks are: high flow fuel (up to 25 liters per 100 km), a small power reserve and a small resource tension roller belt attachments(up to 60,000 km).

Transmission

The fifth generation Nissan Patrol was equipped with two types of gearboxes - mechanics and automatic transmission. Both transmissions are quite reliable and do not cause much trouble for 400-500 thousand km. Clutch resource mechanical transmission directly depends on the operating conditions, but it is worth noting that even in the hard “off-road” mode, it will last at least 60 thousand km, and with careful operation it can please with a mileage of 200,000 km. The car is equipped with a plug-in all-wheel drive (regularly rear-wheel drive), but since it does not have a center differential, it can only be used on slippery, snowy or sandy roads, as well as off-road. Otherwise, premature wear transmission parts (transfer case chain, bearings, etc.) and tires are inevitable. When inspecting the transmission of a car, you need to pay attention to the condition: transfer cases and bridges, as well as check the level and condition of the oil in these mechanisms. In addition, they require special attention"harbs" (couplings), anthers steering knuckles, crosses and spline connections of cardan.

Suspension reliability Nissan Patrol 5

There is no need to talk about the level of comfort in the car, since the front and rear suspensions of the Nissan Patrol are dependent (solid axles with springs are suspended on powerful levers) and very rigid. If we talk about its reliability, then it all depends on the operating conditions, but it is worth noting that even under conditions of tough operation, the suspension does not cause any special problems. On average, consumables such as stabilizer struts and bushings live up to 80,000 km. Silent blocks, thrust bearings, tie rod ends, thrust bearings and seals will have to be changed about once every 100-150 thousand km. One of the weakest points in the suspension is the mechanism for changing the stiffness of the stabilizer stroke. With a constant off-road assault, it quickly fails (appears with a knock in the suspension) and needs to be replaced, and this is not a cheap pleasure (about 1000 USD). Therefore, in order to save money, many owners install an all-metal rack. The steering is reliable, but, with frequent off-road trips, there may be problems with the steering damper.

Salon

Salon Nissan Patrol 5 is made of enough quality materials, thanks to this, even on cars with a mileage of more than 300,000 km, it does not look pretty shabby, and does not irritate with squeaks and knocks while driving. As for the reliability of electronics, failures occur in it, but, as a rule, they are minor and are eliminated by restarting the system.

Outcome:

In the city, it will be inconvenient to constantly use the Nissan Patrol 5, since it is not agile, and fuel consumption is very high, but on the roads it has practically no equal.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your review that will help readers of our site when choosing a car.

Sincerely, editorial Autoavenue

Nissan Patrol Series The Y61 has been produced since 1997 for thirteen years. The most powerful frame, dependent suspensions with axle beams, a two-stage transfer case with manual control... A classic design, worked out on the predecessor of the Y60 series: there was almost no talk of childhood illnesses. What about old people?

They say that in the silence you can hear how rust wears away metal in older cars. This is about Patrol: it’s not without reason that Nissan’s proprietary warranty from through corrosion for him was cut in half - up to six years. On cars of the first years of production, corrosion is easiest to detect under the lining on the wings, sills, rear pockets wheel arches, as well as on the bottom of the body. It is better to cover the license plate on the frame with anticorrosive: it rusts. And if the hood literally starts to open with a creak, do not be too lazy to remove the body panel in front of the windshield and lubricate the hinges - having turned sour tightly, they will eventually fall apart.

"Blossoming" elements of chrome trim often changed back in warranty period. Dampness also affects the electrics - the telescopic antenna with an electric drive ($ 300) and the motors of the headlight brush cleaners ($ 180) turn sour on cars older than 2002, the connectors of the wiring openly laid under the bottom rot ...

On Russian roads Patrols from gasoline engine are rare (less than 8% of cars), but not at all because of reliability problems. Cars with the “six” TB45 (4.5 l, 200 hp) were not officially sold with us (almost all of them are from the Middle East), and the engine itself is rather weak for an SUV weighing under 2.5 tons. Since 2004, cars with a TB48 engine (4.8 l, 245 hp) could be bought new from dealers, and they had enough power, but few people were satisfied with gasoline consumption of more than 30 liters per 100 km.

Among the "Europeans" there are simple versions with a fabric interior, without climate control, with unpainted wheel arch linings and on steel wheels, as well as short three-doors with a base of 2400 mm versus 2970 mm for the five-door version

Therefore, in Russia, most of the cars (up to 70%) are with a three-liter turbodiesel “four” ZD30DDTI of the 1999 model. In the gas distribution mechanism, it has a strong and durable chain, a fuel pump ($ 5,000) and nozzles ($ 200 each) usually withstand 200 thousand kilometers, and the state of the turbocharger ($ 2,000) needs to be looked at more closely only after 150 thousand kilometers. But fuel equipment often has problems with control electronics, and not every workshop will undertake the repair of a worn rotary injection pump. Cars older than 2006 have a weak sensor mass flow air (when it fails, the machine loses power), and after 60-80 thousand kilometers it is necessary to change the attachment drive belt tensioner with a damper ($ 250). From temperature changes in severe frosts, the mating plane of the exhaust manifold often warps, which, however, can usually be restored.

Much worse is that after 150 thousand kilometers, cracks may appear in the light-alloy cylinder head! A new head ($ 2200) will also have to be legalized by the traffic police: for some reason, the engine number is stamped on it. In many engines of the first years of production, due to miscalculations in the design of the piston lubrication and cooling system (special nozzles supply oil to the piston bottoms), even with a slight decrease in oil pressure or malfunctions in the fuel equipment, the pistons burned out. So the engine replaced under warranty for cars older than 2001 is a big fat plus when buying. Just keep in mind that even with modified engines, the risk of piston burnout still remains - the problem was almost completely overcome only after the next modernization in 2005.

The legendary TD42T turbodiesel with a volume of 4.2 liters is a pity, it is easier to meet it in pictures than in life

The most common (and most problematic) Patrol engine is the three-liter turbo diesel ZD30DDTI

In the early years of production, the Nissan Patrol Y61 was equipped with a 2.8-liter six-cylinder long-liver RD28T, which first appeared 30 years ago on 160-series cars and was only supplemented by an electronically controlled high-pressure fuel pump. A 128-horsepower engine pushed to its limits is prone to overheating, and its long aluminum head ($1,300) is prone to warping and cracking. Otherwise, apart from trifles like a clogged exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, a malfunctioning electronic fuel pressure regulator and crankshaft oil seals and oil pump and oil cooler gaskets flowing after 150 thousand kilometers, everything is not bad. Fuel pump($ 5000) usually lasts at least 250-300 thousand kilometers, and then it can be sorted out without problems ($ 1000-1400). The turbocharging unit ($ 1200) can withstand at least 200 thousand kilometers, and for neat owners who change in time air filters and quality oil, - and all 350-400 thousand kilometers. Do not forget only that in the timing drive there is a belt, which, for fidelity, is better to change every 60-80 thousand kilometers: the consequences of its breakage are very deplorable.

But the in-line “six” TD42 with a volume of 4.2 liters has neither a belt nor even a chain: instead of them, there is a gear drive, the existence of which for many years you can not guess. Oh, this motor, which has been in production since the 80s, is legendary! They say it's easier to sell a car with him than to torture him. The engine effortlessly overcomes the bar of half a million kilometers, and on Patrols its supercharged version TD42T often lives to a ripe old age with a “native” turbocharger. Only the 1HZ series engines on Toyota cars can boast of such endurance. Land cruiser(AR No. 1, 2010). It's a pity to find a Patrol with a "six" TD42 on secondary market- incredible luck. Officially, they were not sold with us, and rare copies with left-hand drive are the former “Arabs” that are very weakly resisting corrosion.

In the transmission - no frills: a primitive "part-time" (forcibly connected front axle) without an interaxle differential in transfer case. The front end can only be connected at low speeds and on slippery surfaces - otherwise the extended chain in the transfer case ($ 450) will go first.

Patrol was delivered to us only in a five-door version and in rich trim levels. The leather of the seats is rough, but it is durable and resistant to abrasion.

In addition, the front hubs are connected by semi-automatic clutches (each costs $650), and on heavy off-road, the Auto mode is not enough for this - they will have to be brought to the Lock position manually using a wheelbrace. An entertaining exercise in the middle dirty road for the owner of an expensive SUV! But there is nothing to do - otherwise, a crunch in the hubs, portending unforeseen expenses, will appear after 80-90 thousand kilometers. And so that Patrol does not become rear-wheel drive forever due to jammed couplings, during each MOT they need to change the lubricant. By the way, you will also have to lubricate the steering knuckles front axle, and splines equipped with grease nipples cardan shafts. Then the cardan shafts themselves ($1,500) will last more than 200 thousand kilometers - and will not pull the bearings of the gearbox tails with them.

But the main gears are very difficult to finish off. But do not forget at least from time to time to use the lock rear axle- otherwise, the control solenoid valves of its pneumatic actuator located under the hood will turn sour from inaction.

Before storming the off-road, the front hub couplings have to be turned on with a balloon key (they are blocked in the photo), and to turn them off completely, you need to drive a couple of meters in reverse

The resource of mechanical gearboxes is directly proportional to the engine size, except that the clutch ($ 400-500) serves the same for everyone - up to 150-170 thousand kilometers. At the “weakest” box paired with the RD28T engine, the gears begin to fly out, and the synchronizers crunch after 200-250 thousand kilometers. It has to be sorted out after 300 thousand kilometers ($ 800-1200). The “mechanics” of cars with a three-liter diesel engine are even more durable, and it seems that the masters do not even know what the manual transmission repair of Patrols with a 4.2TD engine is.

And the lifespan of automatic transmissions (they were combined with any of the diesel engines and, by default, with gasoline engines) directly depends on the operation: they usually do not require repair ($ 1500-2000) before 300 thousand kilometers, but a couple of "trophy-raid" trips easily can sentence them to immediate repairs, and to the maximum - usually you have to change burnt clutches.

Antenna that has not lost its mobility on front fender for Patrols older than three to five years - a rarity

Folding seats suspended along the sides allow you to take two more people on board, but significantly reduce the volume of the trunk, and over time they begin to creak with loose fasteners

Suspension? That's right - there is nothing to break there. But there is one thing - switchable rear stabilizer roll stability. It looks like this device was invented by marketers, not engineers: move rear suspension The patrol is already huge, and even if there is a rear differential lock ... In a word, there is no sense from the device, but the mouth is full of trouble. Now the hinge on the left telescopic rack ($1000) will break, then the electric drive ($850) will go on strike. After off-road exercises, the delicate mechanism must be cleaned of dirt and dampness. It is no wonder that after the first breakdown, many owners prefer to install a regular rack ($ 45), or even completely remove the stabilizer, putting up with a barely noticeable increase in roll in corners - they say, not a racing car.

The rest - no surprises. Simple racks and bushings of stabilizers are enough for 40-70 thousand kilometers, but along with them, fans of off-road sorties have to change the stabilizer itself ($ 250) - its rod is rubbed under the bushings. Off-roading halves the life of shock absorbers ($150 front and $100 rear) - they usually go 130-160 thousand kilometers. Pivot bearings suffer ($60 each), and frequent replacement of suspension springs ($220-260) due to broken bumpers is unknown to those who do not move off the asphalt.

The usual thing for Japanese cars- chrome finishes can't resist our road chemicals

Silent blocks ($20-30 each) usually wear out by 100-120 thousand kilometers, and they do it very quietly and imperceptibly: in order not to find broken places where they are pressed into the levers (only Panhard rods, $180-200 are supplied assembled), do not be lazy check the condition of the rubber bands from time to time. With the same mileage, steering tips ($90 each) and traction ($200-250) can give up, but a leak from a worm-type steering gear ($350 per bulkhead) happens only after 250-300 thousand kilometers.

In a word, in terms of indestructibility and reliability, the Nissan Patrol may well compete with a sample named Toyota Land cruiser. That's just the "correct" diesel engine TD42 in our day with fire you will not find. And the rest of the engines are either problematic or voracious ... But Patrol at the age of four or five years is estimated at from 1 million 100 thousand to 1 million 600 thousand rubles, and it is not difficult to find a completely “live” twelve-year-old car for half a million. For comparison: Land Cruiser 100 at the same venerable age costs 200 thousand rubles more, and the difference in the price of fresher copies reaches 700 thousand rubles.

The appearance of rust in the place under VIN number on the frame spar contributes to flying from under the right front wheel dirt

No wonder the wiring connector rear lights suffers from corrosion

To change the sliding rear stabilizer bar (pictured) to a regular one, you will have to modify the platform for its attachment to the frame

Drum parking brake located on the transfer case - driving with a tightened handbrake, in addition to wear of the pads, leads to overheating and destruction of the transfer case seal

To lubricate the hood hinges, you will have to remove the panel under the windshield.

The handle of a manual gearbox "looses" after 100 thousand kilometers, but the "mechanics" itself is very durable

From hard off-road driving, the steering damper bends or tears off the “ear” from the Panhard rod

There is a lot of empty space under the huge cover that “eats” part of the wheel arch lining - in the Arabic versions, the neck of the additional fuel tank capacity 40 l

Experts Autoreview about the car Nissan Patrol (AR №17, 2000)

Nissan captivates with space: to get to the opposite door, you have to be a basketball player! Gears here have to be shifted like on a truck, since the handle is located a little further from the driver and a little higher than we would like. And the “razdatka” control lever, on the contrary, is closer to the driver.

The three-liter Nissan turbodiesel is not bad. But why is there such a "short" transmission? The motor instantly spins up to a maximum of 4000 rpm, which corresponds to 32 km/h in first gear and 56 km/h in second. As a result, in city driving, you have to constantly wield the gear lever, which, moreover, is characterized by large lateral movements. But fifth gear is great for dynamic overtaking on the highway - Patrol actively responds to pressing the gas pedal in the range from 120 to 140 km / h. And on long straights, the speedometer needle approaches 170! But ... Nissan's speedometer deceives the driver with rare cynicism, overestimating top speed almost 20 km/h.

Without changing much technically, Patrol experienced a restyling of the exterior and interior twice - in 2003 and 2006. In the photo - the car in its original form of the sample of 1997

In the Nissan clutch drive, we found vacuum booster similar to those used in brake systems. Thanks to him, the effort on the pedals was halved. But, alas, information content has suffered significantly.

Patrol is equipped with a fairly stiff suspension. Therefore, despite the unsharp steering, the reactions to turning the steering wheel are clearer and faster, and the rolls are less than those of the Prado and Pajero. But on not flat road the hard Patrol constantly shakes, which makes the car track the trajectory worse in the turn. Spoils the picture and the lack of reactive action on the steering wheel.

And I completely upset the Patrol with a smooth ride. It reacts just as harshly as Discovery to large irregularities, but in addition decently shakes passengers on “little things”.

Owner's opinion

Dormov Aleksey, 26 years old, Moscow, employee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia

I have been operating Nissan Patrol for the sixth year already - and even visited the Moscow-Magadan-Moscow expedition. Then in a month he covered 21 thousand kilometers, a third of which fell on dirt roads. And all the troubles - the front springs that burst into three parts, because of which I drove for two thousand kilometers with the bridge lying on the bumpers, and with each oil change after 7500 km I had to tighten the front wheel bearings.

In the snowy winters near Moscow, convenient towing eyes come in handy - in the mornings I had to go to friends stuck at their own houses more than once, saving half the yard along the way. And in the cold it’s good in Patrol: with two regular “stoves”, their fans are on high speeds does not need to be included. The suspension is amazing: I never slow down in front of pits, and silent blocks go up to 100 thousand kilometers.

As my experience and those of my friends have shown, services are willing to take on the repair of the Patrol, only many do it illiterately. For example, after fords and mud baths, it is imperative to check the presence of water in the steering knuckles, wheel and pivot bearings, and axles. The steering knuckle seals often need to be changed, and during assembly, the preload in the bearings must be adjusted with gaskets. The operation takes about eight hours, and if everything was done much faster for you, then most likely they cheated.

It’s even worse with engine maintenance: on the ZD30, few of the “unofficials” know how to check the thermal clearance in the valves, although the operation is simple, requiring only shims. And for the TD42 motor, many parts have to wait up to a month - since it is the least problematic of all motors.

And Patrol is also good because a lot can be repaired by yourself and even in the field - even the clutch changes without a pit. By the way, when not the first replacement, do not forget to carefully examine the surface of the flywheel - it is covered with cracks (they can be sanded, but it is better to replace the flywheel), and in addition to the clutch kit, immediately change the sealing covers and springs release bearing and forks. But if the crankshaft oil seal does not flow, it is better not to touch it.

By the way, from experience, it’s better to bet on Patrol original spare parts especially the seals. Yes, they are a little more expensive, but you can forget about the next repair for a long time.

The automobile company "Nissan Motor Company Ltd" has in its model line many great cars. One of them, of course, is "Patrol", which stands out not only among its "namesake", but also among fellow classmates.

most the best feature for "Patrol" is the fact that in all the "hot" and "roadless" spots of the globe, UN employees carry out their mission using this particular car. Many auto reviewers see it as an "icon" of its class. He deserves it, and, of course, his long pedigree has helped him in this.

The first generation of this model appeared back in 1951, was created for the needs of the army and resembled the legendary Willys military jeep in appearance. Updates and restyling of this car took place and were presented to the buyers with enviable regularity: in 1960, 1980, 1987 and, finally, in 1997, the fifth generation Nissan Patrol was introduced (in 2004 it was restyled).

So "Patrol" with the index "Y61" is truly a real SUV with a masculine character and brutal appearance, which characterizes both its exterior and interior. With all his appearance, he demonstrates conservatism and indifference to automotive fashion, because he is designed to work in remote areas and extra "show-offs", at least until recently, he was useless. And the child can accurately describe its appearance: large, square, and at the same time simple. Simplicity is generally the key word for Patrol.

Inside, it also lacks "bells and whistles", especially in comparison with the updated versions of "classmates" - none: wood, soft leather, chrome and super-V8 engines under the hood. Most likely, therefore, he is inferior in sales to all of them. But on the other hand, it is clear that people who buy such a car are happy, because they are free from their own ego and the desire to pay one and a half times more for a few more comfortable interior details, smoother body lines and a couple of fashionable headlights. In the cabin, everything is quite trivial, but everything is in its place, and at the same time with a solid interior design. The visibility of the interior mirror suffers a little, but this inconvenience is more than offset by large side mirrors. However, restyling in 2004 still added a little gloss interior design: the color scheme has become more interesting, the plastic is of better quality.

About the appearance of the Patrol Y61, not because of "ugliness", but because of simplicity, there is nothing more to say ... it is much more interesting to consider technical, operational and driving performance this machine.

At the heart of the 5th generation Nissan Patrol is a classic, corrosion-resistant frame structure, to which continuous bridges and dependent suspensions are attached. This base is ideal for heavy off-road use. The plug-in all-wheel drive, blocking the rear cross-axle differential, with relative structural simplicity, makes the car reliable in operation. "Patrol" is able to inspire confidence, respect and a sense of security. One feels the indestructibility of his "cargo" arsenal, and the sensations from the car are similar. If the road meets with serious irregularities, the suspension reacts with undisguised rigidity. A large radius is required to turn, due to the large base. "Patrol" is very good on a straight line, but shows a reluctance to change the direction of its movement, a little late to the steering commands. The car has a mass of 2.5 tons, with a length of 5010 mm (and seven-seater saloon) trunk volume of 810 liters.

In terms of power units, the fifth generation machine is equipped with:

  • 4.8 liter R6 petrol engine with 245 hp. with., 5-speed automatic transmission and is capable of speeds up to 190 km / h.
  • or diesel is a 3.0 liter turbodiesel with 160 hp. from 5 manual transmission or 4-speed "automatic".

Fuel consumption is truly immodest: on the highway 15, and in the city 25 liters per 100 km for the gasoline version, the diesel is much more economical - 14 ~ 9 liters per 100 km, respectively.
Among the operational advantages of the "fifth Patrol" it is worth highlighting high reliability, roomy and comfortable lounge, and the patency of a classic SUV.
By the "cons" - only sensitivity to high-quality and regular maintenance.

In 2010 buy this real male car was available in two configurations. Patrol Luxury was offered at a price of ~2 million 67 thousand rubles, and an SUV in the Elegance configuration was sold at a price of 2 million 146 thousand rubles.

Cars are different. Some model can be safely called ordinary, the other is considered worthy. But there are cars that are considered legendary. Nissan Patrol is one of them. Initially created for the needs of the army, the Patrol U61 SUV won the hearts of off-road lovers around the world. Patrol is the official vehicle of the UN, it is used to travel to the most dangerous and difficult places.

Patrol U61 is the name of the fifth generation, which is no longer in production, in 2010 it was replaced by the sixth generation. But finding a car is not so difficult, and the price of a supported version is much lower than the sixth generation Patrol. The article will discuss the features all-wheel drive, power plants and operation in difficult conditions.

The main dimensions of the car
Length 5045 mm
Height 1855 mm
Width 1940 mm
Clearance (ground clearance) 220 mm
Wheelbase 2970 mm
rear track 1625 mm
front track 1605 mm
Luggage compartment volume from 183 to 2287 liters
Basic tires 275/65R17
Full mass from 2920 to 3200 kg, depending on the configuration

Appearance and interior

Photos will tell more about the appearance of the car. The body does not differ in brutal appearance, but at the same time it looks reliable and unshakable. And this is true - the body is made of a thick layer of metal, which is why the mass of the car reaches 3 tons. On the one hand, this makes it stable, and on the other hand, it negatively affects fuel economy.

Inside, everything is also simple and practical. There are no bells and whistles here, but the driver feels confident behind the wheel. And passengers usually do not complain. The only minus of the car interior (except for the decoration that is simple by modern standards) is the interior mirror.

Body Features

Nissan has tried to make the car as "indestructible" as possible. The body practically does not rust. After examining a car with ten years of experience, the experts found corrosion only in places of deep chips. But if the driver decides to buy a car from an off-road fan, then the bodywork should be carefully examined, since the time spent in the swamps is bad for the thresholds and wheel arches.

It is necessary to carefully examine the frame, especially its rear part, since corrosion appears first of all there. The body is made of a thick layer of metal, so the resource is quite large. But it will be great if, after the purchase, the owner will process the “weak” points of the design.

Specifications

It is worth talking about iron separately, but for now we suggest studying the engines. For all the time, many options have been released, but we are considering those engines that can be easily found in the CIS countries. It is worth saying that on Russian market used cars right-hand drive Patrol is a frequent guest.

And if possible, it is better to choose just such a version of the "Japanese". The right-hand drive SUV will have a Safari badge, which is appreciated among off-road enthusiasts. In general, such versions have a richer finish and content. The electronics settings are slightly different from the European versions of the Nissan Patrol. For example, in the root model you can find a 4.2-liter diesel unit, issuing 160 horses.

Base diesel engine 2.8 TD

The 2.8-liter engine, like other fifth-generation Nissan diesel options, is turbocharged. The design includes six cylinders, which have an in-line arrangement. Turbodiesel power is 129 Horse power escaping from under the hood at 2000 rpm. Torque peaks at 252 H*m at 4000 rpm. The motor works only with 5-speed mechanics. The engine has the following dynamics and economy indicators:

  • The power plant accelerates Patrol from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in 18.4 seconds.
  • The speed limit is 155 km/h.
  • In the city base engine eats about 15 liters, on the track - 9.5. Mixed mode - 11 liters.

Diesel 3.0TD

The volume is 2953 cm3. The location here is also in-line, only there are already 4 cylinders, not 6. When choosing a medium diesel engine, it can be equipped with either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. Power is 158 horses at 2000 rpm. The maximum torque is 380 H * m, which appears at 2000 rpm. The performance of a 3-liter diesel engine is as follows:

  • Acceleration from 0 km/h to 100 km/h takes 15.4 seconds with mechanical box or 16.9 with an automatic.
  • Maximum speed - 160 km / h.
  • Consumption in the city is 14.3 liters with mechanics, the machine will reduce the figure to 13.9. On the highway, the car consumes 8.8 liters with a manual transmission or 8.6 with an automatic transmission. Mixed mode for both options requires about 10 liters.

Diesel flagship 3.0 TD

The top diesel has become the "favorite" of Russian offroaders.

The most expensive turbodiesel has an in-line arrangement of four cylinders. The choice of boxes is exactly the same as in the previous motor: 5MKP or 4AKP. The maximum power is 160 horsepower, which becomes available at 3600. Torque peaks at 380 H * m. The flagship received the following indicators:

  • Acceleration 0-100 km / h takes 15.2 seconds with a manual transmission or 16.3 with an automatic transmission.
  • The speed limit is 160 km/h.
  • Fuel consumption in the city should not exceed 14.3 liters with mechanics and 13.9 liters. with an automatic. On the highway, the car consumes 8.8 liters with manual transmission and 9 with automatic transmission. Average consumption is equal to 12 liters.

4.8 petrol engine

The only one Gas engine has an in-line arrangement of six cylinders. Only 5-speed is available for it automatic transmission. Power is 245 horsepower at 3600 rpm. Peak torque is 400 N*m at 3600 rpm. The engine "feeds" on the 95th gasoline. The most powerful option boasts the following indicators:

  • Acceleration time to hundreds lasts 11.7 s.
  • The speed limit is 180 km/h.
  • In the city, a car equipped with a gasoline engine needs 19.6 liters per hundred. On the highway, fuel consumption drops only per liter - 18.1.

Nissan Patrol features - testers notes

Now we know what can be inside the SUV. The final puzzle is the car's ability on the road. Feedback from ordinary motorists and serious testers helps to see the big picture. If the SUV "rolls" on the asphalt, then only rear drive. And this is convenient, because fuel consumption drops, the ride becomes more comfortable, and driving a rear-wheel drive car is much easier. But if the driver gets off-road, then in his arsenal appear: rear differential lock, downshifts and all-wheel drive.

Once in extreme situation, the owner of the car can even turn off the rear stabilizer. This element looks like a shock absorber. In normal mode, the rear stabilizer is locked. In this position, the wheels are hung out earlier, as a result, there is less roll. But on a real offroad, the element becomes redundant, so the driver can disable it with one button on dashboard. After that, the electromagnet will release the stem. As a result, each Nissan Patrol wheel will receive 70 millimeters of free play. The symbiosis of these functions and a reliable body provide excellent cross-country ability to the car.

Returning to the stabilizer, it is worth warning that it should be turned off only in serious situations, since the wear of the part occurs quite quickly. Replacement will cost almost a thousand dollars. The rest of the parts that form the four-wheel drive are of high strength. True, the hub couplings of the front wheelset may be an exception. Here the situation is the same as with the stabilizer - they work in automatic and manual mode. So that the couplings do not cause trouble, they need to be monitored and serviced in time. This implies disassembly and lubrication of the hubs and steering knuckles. These procedures are performed every 40-60 thousand kilometers. In general, the car has no problems with off-road: an excellent all-wheel drive system, a strong body and a powerful power plant.

Patrol can be called unique because of the suspension, which is dependent on both front and rear. But this highlight has a positive effect on the reliability of the “running” both on a flat surface and offroad. The car turned out to be quite economical when compared with other SUVs. For example, bushings and stabilizer struts change only after 50-60 thousand km. With the steering of the car, too, everything is fine - with increasing speed, the effort on the "steering wheel" also increases. As the experience of Russian owners of Nissan Patron shows, steering parts are no less durable than the body.

Eventually

The brakes may seem a little too hard for some, but for an SUV, this is a plus, not a minus. With frequent use of the car on the road, replacement of the pads may be needed after 20 thousand mileage. If only the disc is worn out, you can grind it yourself and return it to operation.

You can buy a car for 1.5-2 million rubles, depending on the configuration and power stop.

Review Nissan 4.6 gasoline (Nissan Patrol) 2009 Part 2

So the warranty period of possession of this car has passed. What can be added to what was said earlier. Mileage for children — 30500. The run is due to the fact that the car itself is problematic (my copy), and not the only one in use.

Now, in order and honestly about everything.

Disadvantages that cannot be eliminated in the process are vibration on the steering wheel when driving on a highway at a speed of 95-105 km. The steering wheel just twitches and the impact on the body. Five claims to the dealer did not fix the situation. The response of the service is the rubber curve. We put a winter set of wheels with disks - everything is the same. We balance in three different places. There are no improvements. By the way, no comments.

Strengths:

  • Comfort
  • patency
  • Brutality in everything

Weak sides:

  • Reliability is just no
  • Weak LC coating

Review of Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 Di Turbo (Nissan Patrol) 2007

Good day, dear guests and participants of the forum!

Having written my first review about the car that I now operate, it would be completely ugly to forget about the Nissan Patrol, which served me faithfully until March of this year. It is probably necessary to start with how the car was chosen.

I will write in advance that before buying Patrol, I had only VAZ cars at my disposal (I drove VAZ-2101, 2105 and 2115), which, however, did not leave sunny memories. The need for an SUV arose in connection with official business: the need to travel over rough terrain, mainly in the protected areas of the neighboring Republic of Kalmykia (who knows what Ekiburul, Zlaturgan and other outlandish places are, he will understand what I mean). I was not going to participate in rally raids and looked after the car as a reliable, workhorse for road and off-road. At the same time, the existing level of savings made it possible to rely on the purchase of a foreign-made car. In addition, I wanted to know what a diesel engine is. So, based on the available savings, one could consider Nissan Pathfinder, Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and (with a stretch) Volvo XC90 (I understand that last car is not at all a utilitarian SUV, but it was very attractive from the standpoint appearance and security).

Strengths:

  • Good cross
  • Roomy interior
  • high rise
  • Reliability and unpretentiousness in operation

Weak sides:

  • Weak engine
  • Lack of permanent all-wheel drive
  • Outdated gearbox and audio system
  • Weak low beam
  • Uncomfortable folding of the second and third row seats

Review Nissan 4.6 gasoline (Nissan Patrol) 2009

Good day to all who read this review.

This car was chosen very long and painstakingly. Although there is nothing special to choose in this model: 3 liters of diesel or 4.6 gasoline. As a result, after analyzing the information obtained from various sources, it was found that diesel seems to be more economical (the city is declared - 14.5 per 100, gasoline - 25 per 100), the torque is almost the same, the difference in l / s is 85 plus for gasoline. Gasoline is also equipped with a 5-speed tiptronic, in contrast to the 4-speed automatic. Everything else is the same in terms of configuration and dimensions. Pass the comparative test drive failed due to the lack of a gasoline version as such. And yet the choice is made in favor of the petrol version. This was based on: a large volume does not scare, there is an American 5.2 liters, quality diesel fuel horror, and even an ominous winter, when once - and frost in the morning at 30. It was also noticed that previous patrols with a diesel engine were very frequent at the service station. And in general, for this money, I also didn’t want to study chemistry in order to competently use gels and additives. As a result, the petrol version. Yes, you can say that he went crazy. It's not the same for everybody.

More about feelings. Salon: black leather, wood and aluminum inserts. Somewhat angular, but in my opinion if you fell for the Patrol, it means you like the design. The landing is very comfortable, high, the driver has as many as 9 adjustments. I don’t remember the passenger, like 6. Finding a comfortable position is not a problem, on long trips, for which I took it, you don’t get tired. 4 row of seats allows 2 men to sit quite comfortably, but climbing is not very convenient. When fully loaded, the trunk is very small, which is not encouraging. Since we only drove full at the premiere to friends, it was decided to remove the 3rd row altogether. In the event that the entire volume is needed, then the 2nd row does not add up to a flat floor, a step is obtained, which is not very convenient. Visibility forward and to the sides is good. Nothing is visible back, except for the wheel and the junction of swing doors. Mirrors are good, but still small. The right mirror does not lower when moving backwards, which was disappointing, because this is very lacking due to the high ground clearance.

Strengths:

  • Real frame SUV
  • Practical
  • brutal

Weak sides:

  • Transport tax
  • Turning radius

Review of Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 Di Turbo (Nissan Patrol) 2007

Well, I moved from Ford Explorer to Nissan Patrol and I can say that I did not regret it. The dynamics, of course, are not the same, but this is the only, if I may say so, minus, but - spacious salon, a huge trunk (And after taking out the third row of seats, it’s just a fairy tale. Why is it set by default at all? Is it really impossible to do it as an option ?!).
I drive around the city calmly, after I got used to the dimensions and the fact that the right side of OKA-type cars is not visible when they drive near the front wheel.
It’s wonderful on the track, until a certain point, until the speed is up to 120 km / h, and then hold me seven, just like a locomotive that has gone off the rails, a very dangerous activity in general, and it’s not his business to dissect at such a speed, there is another purpose , namely off-road.

This is where he shows himself ... no, first he shows that the rubber should at least be changed to A / T, and then he already shows that he is capable of a lot, even in the standard version. Although if you go to serious pampas, then the final one, but those fellows who go there already know what and where to fasten;)

The main thing is that the suspension design allows you not to slow down on uneven and even very uneven roads and without a road, the main thing is to have time to catch the car, because. back rearranges at times.

Strengths:

  • Big car :)
  • Weak sides:

  • Third row of seats basic configuration- IMHO of course

  • Very easily soiled interior - it is not clear why, but I just evaporated to clean it, although before that there were cars with a black interior

  • No cabin air filter

  • Radio with a cassette - I just can not buy it :(
  • Review of Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 Di Turbo (Nissan Patrol) 2007

in February 2007, after a long choice between cars Nissan Murano, Pathfinder and Patrol, Toyota Prado, Mitsubishi Podgero 4, Subaru Tribeca and Ford Explorer, a worthy car Nissan Patrol was chosen - an eternal car with an indestructible suspension and a reliable diesel engine D 3.0 . But it turned out that I became the proud owner of the Patrol in just 10 days, because. after registration with the traffic police and successful passing of technical inspection new car with numbers and a ticket for 3 years parked near work with a worker idling the engine died safely, the most reliable engine jammed.

(Some kind of oil pipe broke in the engine, which subsequently led to engine failure). And long telephone conversations began with the salon and other representatives of the Nissan company. The Nissan company, showing concern, offered to send a tow truck for a broken Nissan car, but probably having calculated the evacuation route (about 3,000 km to the nearest Nissan dealer), they decided to abandon this idea and offered to wait half a year until summer navigation. I had to this problem decide for yourself (because drowning people always help themselves, even in the presence of rescuers), hire a cargo car, load it into the body and transport the broken car back to the salon, having previously phoned and offered to replace it with another car, even agreed to the payment.

But upon arrival at the salon, it turned out that not everything was so simple and the exchange was not made. Having sent a written claim for termination of the sale and purchase agreement, I did not receive an answer, only assurances that this problem was being solved, and after a month there was no result. And then a miracle happens, an offer comes from the salon that they agree to return the car and the installed optional equipment money, but minus the cost of repairing the engine, explaining that a broken oil pipe is warranty repair, and engine repair at your expense, because. the happy owner of a Nissan Patrol car should not take his eyes off the dashboard for a single minute, because perhaps the control lights will light up due to some malfunctions, these are the warranty obligations of the Nissan Company as interpreted by the salon service managers.

    Strengths:

  • Large and attractive car
  • Weak sides:

  • Unreliability diesel engine 3.0

  • Terrible warranty service
  • Review of Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 Di Turbo (Nissan Patrol) 2007

The choice of car was made long ago and consciously, the lifestyle suggests the presence of an SUV. All jeeps before it are a preparatory introductory stage and a compromise between the desires and the possibilities of the wallet. So, 2005, 3 liter turbodiesel 160 hp, automatic, leather. Drove to date 12,000 km and I can report the following.

Apparently it just coincided so that the previous owner and I have approximately the same views on the necessary and sufficient things that a car should have, so from the extra on the car it was - tastefully and correctly made tinting, tow bar, turbo timer, rear parking sensors, an alarm system in addition to the regular one immobilizer, native, controlled from the same remote control as the central lock. No fake kengurins, light bulbs, TVs, subwoofers, etc.

The car, of course, is very specific. You have to want to buy it, and only it and nothing else, because, in my opinion, convincing someone to take this car just like that is not possible, there is no compromise. If you can choose between Outlander and IhTrailoim and CARV, or Lancer-Corolla-Almera, then here - either Patrol or nothing ... ... if, of course, funds allow. Probably the same can be said about any iconic car, but I never had any doubts about this car. One minus - now there is nothing more to want.

    Strengths:

  • Reliable, decades-proven design

  • Fuel consumption

  • The price-quality ratio is one of the best on the market

  • Security

  • Not theft
  • Weak sides: Little things that do not affect the speed and safety.

Strengths: Unpretentious, allows for unlimited tuning, solid, simple and inexpensive to repair, goes great on the highway, great off-road, RELIABLE to disgrace!!!

Weak sides: In the city, the dimensions make themselves felt, after lifting the rolls in the corners but not critical, the consumption of gasoline in the city is 16-18l. GAS must be installed.
