Yeti or Octavia. What to choose: Nissan Qashqai or Skoda Yeti? Compare inexpensive crossovers. Weight and dimensions

The confrontation between European and Asian crossovers continues, and today we will compare the Skoda Yeti and Nissan Qashqai, as a result of which we will determine which is better.

The Nissan Qashqai, which was named after the nomadic Iranian tribe of the same name, was put on public display in 2006. Interestingly, the Qashqai is considered the first Japanese model to be completely designed and assembled in Europe. The main production facilities are located in the English city of Sunderland.

In 2010, a small restyling of the car took place, as a result of which one of the few problems associated with sound insulation was corrected. As you might have guessed, the main market for Qashqai is Europe, including Russia. At the end of 2013, as part of the London Motor Show, Qashqai 2 debuted, which began to be massively supplied to the North American market. Since 2015, the car has been assembled in St. Petersburg. At the end of 2014, Qashqai was recognized as the safest crossover.

In 2009, in Geneva, the Skoda Yeti crossover was presented to the public. It is hard to imagine a more successful debut - almost immediately, Yeti was recognized as the best family car and hit the top 4 in Europe. The design of the car is based on the fairly common A5 bogie, which was also used in the Tiguan and Octavia. In 2013, the model underwent restyling, which was mainly cosmetic in nature, since specifications remained the same. At the moment, the second generation model is being developed, which is likely to debut towards the end of 2017.

Nissan Qashqai or Skoda Yeti? If we talk about the success of a career, then, of course, this is a Japanese crossover.

Appearance

As for the exterior of cars, the designers of the Czech and Japanese company went different ways, in terms of style. For example, the appearance of the Yeti is very neat and pragmatic. It is noticeable that the developers have made the main emphasis on seriousness and representativeness. But the Japanese crossover pleasantly surprised everyone with its bold and aggressive appearance. The body of the car has become noticeably more prominent, which makes the model athletic and sporty. Now about everything in order.

wide windshield Yeti smoothly into a relatively smooth hood. At Qashqai, the “frontal” is made in exactly the same style, but the structure of the hood is noticeably different. At Japanese crossover it is equipped with volumetric airflows, and it definitely cannot be called even. The false radiator grille and headlights located below form an oblique line in both models, which is very fashionable in recent years.

But the design of the lower part of the bumper is radically different. If the Yeti has a neat air intake and compact fog lights, Qashqai can offer just the same huge air intake and powerful oval fog lights.

With the profile of cars, everything is immediately clear. To be honest, the side of the Yeti will not be to everyone's taste. This geometric correctness and cubism of the body shape definitely cannot be called the most successful design decision specialists of the Czech company. The situation is not even saved by voluminous wheel arches, which, by the way, are also not quite standard. Qashqai is another matter. The car boasts a quite traditional, as for a crossover, side part. Separately, I would like to note the stylish side stampings, which are perfectly combined with the front ones, as well as a flat, slightly collapsed roof.

I was very surprised by the fact that the rear of the cars is very similar in terms of the location of the elements. But only the Yeti continues to observe the concept of geometricity, while the Qashqai has a relief, powerful stern.

Be that as it may, the Japanese crossover deserves the victory in this round.

Salon

In terms of interior design, the cars are very similar. The interior of each of them is characterized by rigor and conciseness, which are perfectly combined with overall manufacturability and versatility.

However, the interior of Qashqai looks more ergonomic and comfortable. Also, the interior of the Japanese crossover can provide more free space than its current opponent.

But from the point of view of the quality of the finish, the Yeti looks the best, which, for this purpose, used expensive, exclusive materials.

Therefore, based on the foregoing, the most logical outcome of the confrontation will be a draw.

Specifications

So, for comparison, we chose two models of the latest generation, assembled in 2017. Each is equipped with a front-wheel drive bogie and engines 1.2 ("Japanese"), 1.4 ("Czech"). Even though the Yeti unit is equipped with a turbine supercharger, it is only 10 more powerful than its opponent. Horse power. The acceleration rate from zero to hundreds of the Japanese is 10.9 s, the Yeti is a second faster.

An interesting situation with fuel consumption in mixed mode - 6.2 liters versus 5.8, in favor of Czech car. As for the transmission, the Yeti uses a six-speed mechanics and a seven-speed robot, Qashqai is equipped with a similar “mechanics” and a variator. The developers recommend filling both cars with at least 95th gasoline.

In terms of dimensions, the situation is very ambiguous. For example, Qashqai is 155 mm longer than its counterpart, but at the same time 96 mm lower. Such a "roller coaster" is also observed in the comparison of other indicators - the wheelbase is 68 mm longer for the "Japanese". Same thing with ground clearance- 200 mm against 180, in favor of Qashqai. But the Yeti managed to outperform its competitor in the mass - it is 21 kg lighter than the Qashqai.

Price

Oddly enough, but the Czech crossover is more expensive than its European counterpart. If the average cost is about 1,100,000 rubles, then for Qashqai 2017 you need to pay only 1,000,000 rubles, which is not so much by today's standards.

Therefore, in terms of price, Nissan Qashqai looks more attractive, which is 100 thousand rubles cheaper than its counterpart.

Yeti is a front- or all-wheel drive SUV in the compact segment and, concurrently, the first car of this format in the history of the Czech automaker Skoda, which seamlessly combines the features of crossovers and minivans…

Main the target audience five-doors - family people with one or more children, with an income above average, who in the "iron horse" appreciate, first of all, unique design, reliability, safety, comfort and functionality ...

"Yeti" is based on a "front-wheel drive" platform called the Volkswagen PQ35 - this aggregate base is well known to many Skoda models and Volkswagen (however, the first generation Tiguan is still the closest relative to the Czech crossover). The machine has a load-bearing body structure, in the power structure of which high-strength steel grades are widely used.

Security

It is worth noting that back in 2009, the car became a “round honors student” according to the results of Euro NCAP European crash tests, earning the maximum possible “5 stars”.

But it should be borne in mind that the test car was “European-style basic”, i.e. equipped with seven airbags and active front head restraints, while the maximum number of airbags sold in Russia is six (and in the “base” there are generally two).

The first crossover in the history of the Czech automaker "was born" in March 2009 - its international debut took place at the Geneva Motor Show ...

In September 2013, the restyled Skoda Yeti appeared to the world community in all its glory at the stands of the Frankfurt Motor Show.

As a result of the update, the SUV has seriously changed in appearance (but especially the full face, having received more discreet headlight units instead of the recognizable round optics), acquired minor metamorphoses in the cabin, “armed itself” with a new environmentally friendly engine and received new options.
Another important innovation is the appearance of an "all-terrain" modification called Outdoor.

The Czech SUV stopped its serial “career” at the beginning of 2018 - it was replaced by new SUV called Karoq.

Yeti in the Russian market

Skoda Yeti, although a belated participant in the "crossover boom", but he extremely successfully "fit into the market", and even distinguished himself by a number of interesting features.

For example, it pleasantly surprises with its original, "minivan" body composition, as well as an ergonomic, practical and functional interior.

In addition, the “German ancestry” played a significant role in the success of the crossover, and in general the good reputation of the Czech automaker in the eyes of Russian consumers.

On the Russian market Skoda Yeti had a really hard time, because he has more than enough competitors. The most obvious of them are: Subaru XV, Nissan Qashqai and Terrano, Jeep Compass, Suzuki Vitara and SX4 Mitsubishi ASX, Renault Captur And Hyundai Creta… and this list can be continued for a long time, because, despite the fact that the “Czech” acts in the compact SUV segment, in terms of dimensions it is more comparable to subcompact SUVs.

Exterior

Outside, the Yeti can hardly be called a model of beauty and harmony, and it is not particularly perceived as a full-fledged SUV - the car with its outlines is more like commercial “heels”. But originality is the main strong point of the five-door, because it is precisely this that catches the eye, without causing any rejection, and upon closer examination, it begins to amaze with its ingenuous charm.

The pre-styling crossover is impossibly easy to recognize, especially from the front - it flaunts a “four-eyed face” with round foglights that mate directly with the head optics.

After the update, the Skoda Yeti lost this “zest” of its own, putting on discreet lighting equipment and fog lights on the front end, located in their traditional places - on the sides of the lower part of the bumper.

In addition, the upgraded car gives out more angular bumpers, rear lights with C-shaped brake lights and LED sections, as well as a trapezoidal license plate niche (instead of the previous rectangular one).

On top of that, the restyled SUV can be found in two versions - City and Outdoor.

The "urban" modification is distinguished by body-colored bumpers and moldings, and its own line alloy wheels, and the “country” one has an off-road decor in the form of unpainted plastic “armor” around the perimeter of the body and front pseudo-protection (that is, a silver lining on the bumper).

As they say, “there are no comrades for the taste and color” - someone likes the Yeti, others cause conflicting feelings, while others simply frighten with their originality.

And, it would seem, what significant shortcomings can be in such a "sharpened for practicality" car? However, they are, and very significant:

  • Low quality iron and painting. The paint quickly swells at the places of chips - this phenomenon is most often observed in the area of the rear wheel arches and on all four doors. It is for this reason that it is recommended to wash the car as often as possible, but especially in the winter after driving on streets treated with reagents.

    In addition, after a few years of operation, the logos on the hood and tailgate begin to peel off the crossover, and the chrome also darkens.

  • Far from ideal aerodynamics, which makes this SUV a terrible
in bad weather, the side windows in the area of the mirrors are quickly splashed with mud (noticeably limiting the view), as well as the tailgate, rear glass and bumper.
  • "Delicate" windshield and headlights. The windshield is quickly rubbed and scratched, and chips on it appear very willingly, while the headlights become cloudy.

Weight and dimensions

The manufacturer Skoda Yeti is positioned as a compact SUV (although in terms of dimensions it is even inferior to many models of the subcompact category): its length fits into 4222 mm (of which the wheelbase “extends” to 2578 mm), the width is 1793 mm, and the height does not exceed 1691 mm.

The ground clearance of the off-road vehicle is 180 mm, while the size of the front and rear track fits into 1541 mm and 1537 mm, respectively.

With regard to equipped and gross weight, then these indicators of the machine depend on the modification:

Interior

Thoughtful minimalism reigns inside the Skoda Yeti - the interior of the car looks thoroughly verified and surprisingly "adult", but it upsets with excessive restraint and even gloominess.

True, such an unremarkable design is more than compensated by impeccable ergonomics, solid finishing materials and good quality assemblies - as they say, everything is smart and to the point, but boring.

On the driving position- academic order: in the direct jurisdiction of the "pilot" are exemplary "tools" with two "wells" in which analog dials are placed, and a "window" of the on-board computer between them, as well as a three-spoke steering wheel.

In the initial versions, the "steering wheel" is extremely simple in appearance and devoid of any additional features, but in "advanced" trim levels, it boasts multifunctionality, a more developed relief with tides in the grip area and chrome and glossy decor.

By default, the laconic center console is “adorned” with a pair of symmetrical ventilation deflectors, a two-din radio with a monochrome display and three neat “washers” of the air conditioning system.
A bit of “elegance” in expensive versions is extolled by a color 7-inch touchscreen of a multimedia complex, under which there is a visual block of a two-zone “climate” and five buttons for controlling secondary functions.

In general, in the Yeti salon it is difficult to seriously find fault with anything, however, there is also the same “fly in the ointment” here:

  • Mediocre visibility - wide A-pillars and a low seat make the driver actively turn his head to the sides, especially when maneuvering at intersections with pedestrian crossings.
  • In general, the build quality of the car is good, however, the plastic panels of the pillars and the ceiling begin to “grunt” on bumps even when not long runs.
  • “Cold” interior (especially for versions with small engines), or to be more precise, warming up for a long time. In frost below -20 ° C at idle, it takes at least half an hour to warm up the “apartments”, while it becomes more or less warm inside only after the start of movement.
  • As well as uneven heating interior decoration: for example, it can be hot in the car, but the legs will freeze, if it is comfortable for the legs, then fogging windows overcome, and if you need to provide normal warmth to the inhabitants of the second row, then the front ones will feel like in the "Sahara".

Despite the modest wheelbase, the Skoda Yeti salon pleasantly surprises with its spaciousness - even five adults can sit here without any problems. The front riders rely on ergonomically profiled seats with pronounced side support rollers, dense padding and the widest ranges of adjustments (including height).

In the "base" the car does not have any additional amenities, but in more expensive versions there is a central front armrest, as well as heating, electric drive and seat memory.

The organization of the second row of the crossover is almost exemplary among competitors (and not only). The five-door has a sofa with an optimal shape and filler, divided into three parts, as well as a solid supply of free space on all fronts without exception.
At the same time, rear passengers are not deprived of comfort elements - the “gallery” moves in the longitudinal direction in the range of 15 cm and has a backrest adjustable in tilt angle (in four fixed positions), folding tables stick out in the front seats, and ventilation deflectors are located on the floor central tunnel .

But that's not all - in the "top" configurations, the possibility of transforming the interior allows you to make the car a four-seater by removing the central narrow part of the sofa and moving the side seats closer to each other.

If we take into account the “dry” numbers, then in terms of internal capacity, the compact SUV has the following indicators:

Luggage compartment

At first glance, it may seem that in terms of carrying capacity, the Skoda Yeti simply has nothing to brag about - the car has a rather modest volume, but with an almost regular shape, the trunk, which, in addition to everything, is flavored with mounting nets and practical hooks.

In its normal state, it is able to accommodate 322 liters of luggage (under the shelf), but the second row moving “on the sled” allows you to increase this figure to 405 liters.

But most of all, the crossover impresses with its transformation capabilities - the “gallery” is folded in three sections in the ratio “40:20:40”, which brings the capacity of the “hold” to 1665 liters. Besides, rear seats you can completely dismantle it (both completely and in parts), as well as remove a small-sized "reserve" with tools and unscrew the foam caches hiding under the raised floor - in this case, the usable volume will be 1760 liters and you will get a flat cargo area.

And that's not all - on some "Yeti" you can meet front seat with a folding backrest (optional equipment), which allows you to carry objects up to 2.5 meters long in the cabin.

Specifications

On the Russian market, the Czech crossover is offered with a wide range of powertrains:

  • Gasoline “turboservice” TSI (installed by default on pre-styling versions) with a working volume of 1.2 liters (1197 cm³) with direct injection, variable valve timing and a 16-valve timing belt type DOHC, developing 105 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 175 Nm of torque at 1500-3500 rpm.
  • Gasoline 1.6-liter (1598 cm³) "aspirated" MPI (became the base after the update) with four in-line oriented cylinders, a distributed "power" system, variable valve timing technology and 16 valves, which generates 110 hp. at 5800 rpm and 155 Nm of peak thrust at 3800 rpm.
  • Petrol TSI engine 1.4 liter (1395 cm³) with cast iron block, compact turbocharger, direct fuel injection, intake phase shifters and 16-valve timing, producing 125 hp. at 5000-6000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1400-4000 rpm.
  • 1.8-liter (1798 cm³) "four" TSI with turbocharging, direct fuel supply, variable valve timing and timing type DOHC with 16 valves, which produces 152 hp. at 5000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque potential at 1500 rpm.
  • The only diesel is a 2.0 TDI (1968 cm³) with a battery injection system, a turbocharger with variable geometry working apparatus, two-stage oil pump and 16-valve timing, issuing 140 hp. at 4000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm.

Skoda Yeti has a range of gearboxes no less diverse:

  • FROM atmospheric engine a 5-speed “mechanics” or a 6-band hydromechanical “automatic” are combined.
  • Turbo fours with a volume of 1.2 and 1.4 liters in tandem are assigned a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-band DSG robot with dry clutches.
  • The 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines are supposed to have no alternative robotic box DSG on six steps with wet discs.

On the modification of the crossover with 1.2-, 1.4- and 1.6-liter units, only a front-wheel drive transmission is installed, while only an all-wheel drive system, “built” on the basis of an electronically controlled Haldex clutch, is connected to the “older” engines (on pre-styling models - fourth generation, and on the updated - the fifth).

By the way, in the company itself, the Yeti all-wheel drive is called permanent, and they are partly right - even in ideal conditions, the clutch works with a slight preload (sending 10% of the traction to the rear axle wheels), and if the road situation worsens, the automation can send up to 50 % moment.

In general, Skoda Yeti boasts fairly reliable engines that are able to travel 200-300 thousand km before overhaul.

However, none of them were without trouble:

All gasoline turbo engines are equipped with a timing chain drive - theoretically, the chain is designed for the entire life of the engine, but in practice it requires replacement after 100-120 thousand km. At the same time, they are characterized by such a problem as the chain jumping over the gear teeth due to stretching and the connivance of an unsuccessful tensioner, which, under the most unfavorable combination, can lead to the repair of the “heart” with bent valves.

Among other things, common misfortunes for "turbo-fours" are unpleasant vibrations on Idling, exactingness to fuel quality, increased “oil consumption” and long warm-up in severe frosts.

The only “aspirated” SUV in the range does not cause much trouble, but it requires updating the timing belt at least every 100-120 thousand km. In addition, such a unit at high mileage may be characterized by high oil consumption, but, as a rule, this is solved by replacing the camshaft seals.

As for the 2.0 TDI turbodiesel, it is one of the least problematic engines under the Yeti's hood. True, the guarantee of his long and happy life is high-quality diesel fuel: in this case, expensive nozzles and high-pressure fuel pumps will last at least 100 thousand km. The timing belt is able to “pass” about the same amount, but then it’s better to replace it.

Manual transmissions installed on the crossover are reliable and unpretentious, not causing any particular complaints. As a rule, they may require some intervention only with a mileage of more than 100 thousand km - for example, replacing differential bearings, leaking oil seals and clutches. According to the regulations, the oil in the manual gearbox of the five-door is filled for the entire service life, but it is advisable to update it every 60 thousand km.

From the unpleasant - in severe frosts, "manual" transmissions have problems with the inclusion of the first two gears, which is solved by warming up for 5-10 minutes at idle.

The classic 6-speed “automatic” is also good on the Czech off-road vehicle: firstly, it works without kicks and freezes; secondly, when timely replacement oil (every 60-80 thousand km), is able to last the entire life of the car.

Robotic DSG7 with "dry" clutches is one of the weakest sides Skoda Yeti, and especially on early copies. It not only causes inconvenience with "twitchy" work, but also does not differ in an increased resource - its most problem areas are the “mechatronics” block and the clutch, which can “end” after 20-30 thousand km.

"Wet" DSG box 6 - much more reliable and, with timely maintenance (oil and filter changes every 60 thousand km), it will not cause any serious trouble to the owner.

The common misfortune of DSG “robots” is that they are not very fond of Russian frosts - for normal driving in the cold season, at least a short (5-10 minutes) warm-up of the car at idle is necessary.

Otherwise, in the “Drive” mode, unpleasant vibrations and knocking and an eyesore on the on-board computer screen can annoy.

All-wheel drive modifications of the SUV are equipped with a Haldex coupling - the main thing here is to update the oil every 60 thousand km: if this procedure is neglected, the electric booster pump may fail, the repair of which will cost a pretty penny.

In general, the Czech crossover demonstrates good off-road potential - it is able to surf paths where many of its "classmates" simply will not reach, and all thanks to the same electronically controlled clutch that skillfully distributes the moment, works with preload and works without delay.

As for the indicators of dynamics and efficiency, here the situation with the Skoda Yeti is as follows:

Chassis

As standard, the Yeti is equipped with independent suspensions:

  • the front uses a MacPherson type design with lower triangular wishbones,
  • rear - multi-link system with one longitudinal and three transverse levers.

"In a circle" - with coil springs and anti-roll bars.

As for the chassis, here the crossover can be recognized as a “round honors student” - it holds a straight line with reinforced concrete, even if the asphalt is damaged by the track. To many, the “hodovka” of this five-door will initially seem harsh, since it conveys the profile of the roadway to the senses in too much detail, but almost everyone eventually recognizes it as really comfortable - the suspension copes with all major potholes and does not allow buildup on the waves.

But the main advantage of the chassis is the highest endurance: it does not cause any trouble and does not need serious intervention even with high mileage. Is it only at the turn of 70-100 thousand km that the stabilizer struts will have to be replaced, and nothing more.

Steering

Regardless of the configuration, the Yeti is equipped with a rack and pinion steering with an electromechanical amplifier.

Manageability is one of the main advantages of this compact crossover: it passes corners perfectly, even despite the high silhouette, allows you to confidently maneuver in dense city traffic and easily go around obstacles that suddenly appear on the way.

In addition, the car boasts an almost perfect amplifier setting - its steering wheel is light, but informative.

Brake system

Disc brakes are used on all wheels of the car, but if on the rear axle they are conventional, then on the front they are ventilated, with a single-piston floating caliper.

The five-door and brakes do not deserve any complaints - they quite effectively cope with the tasks assigned to them.

In terms of reliability, there are no particular problems here, except that only every 30-40 thousand km it is worth changing the front brake pads, and every 80 thousand km - rear (but these are already consumables).

Prices and equipment

On the secondary market In Russia, you can find many supported Skoda Yeti variants with a wide range of prices, with the most common cars with a 1.2-liter engine, a “robot” and a front-wheel drive transmission, while diesel options, on the contrary, are extremely rare.

Crossovers of the early years of production are offered at a price of ≈400 thousand rubles, versions with a turbodiesel will cost from ≈600 thousand rubles, and all-wheel drive modifications with a 1.8-liter engine start at ≈450 thousand rubles *.

If you really want a restyled car, then you should prepare at least ≈ 500 thousand rubles for a low-power version with front-wheel drive, and for the version with a 1.8 TSI engine and an all-wheel drive system, you will have to pay from ≈ 700 thousand rubles *.

The most “fresh” off-road vehicles cannot be bought cheaper than ≈800-850 thousand rubles for simple configurations, while for “top-end” versions you will have to pay from ≈1.2 million rubles *.

As for equipment, in the "base" Skoda Yeti has:

  • two front airbags;
  • black roof rails;
  • electromechanical power steering;
  • power windows of the front doors;
  • interior transformation system VarioFlex;
  • air conditioner;
  • 16 inch steel wheels;
  • heating and electric drive of external mirrors;
  • refrigerated glove box;
  • audio preparation with four speakers;
  • electrically heated windshield washer nozzles.

"Top" configurations are able to boast a much more "delicious" list of equipment (however, they could also be equipped with the widest number of options):

  • six airbags;
  • dual-zone climate control;
  • 17-inch alloy wheels;
  • Cruise control;
  • heated front seats;
  • four power windows;
  • audio system with eight speakers;
  • multifunction steering wheel with leather braid;
  • fog lights;
  • stabilization system (ESP);
  • help function when starting uphill;
  • LED rear lights.

* as of the beginning of 2019.

In general, Skoda Yeti is a surprisingly multifaceted car that can hardly be unequivocally called family, youth or old people. This is a comfortable and functional crossover with "nimble" engines, high-quality performance and impressive interior transformation capabilities, which allows a little more than ordinary cars and does not annoy with serious problems.

If you need a car for purely urban use or long-distance trips on the highway, then almost any version of it is suitable here, however, for off-road attacks (although it can hardly be called such), the choice is limited only to modifications with 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines, because only they have an all-wheel drive system. The same performances will be the most preferable for lovers of dynamic driving, as they have the best power indicators.

If reliability is a priority, it is best to pay attention to either machines with mechanical or automatic boxes gears, or again on solutions with 1.8- and 2.0-liter engines.

Until the time and territory of winter ended, we decided to experiment - we brought the nose to the nose of the Skoda Yeti and Octavia Scout. Why them? Everything is simple. It's two alternative options embodiment of the off-road passenger ideology within one brand. Which one is preferable? Let's try to figure it out.

Yeti materiel almost completely repeats its brother in the concern - Volkswagen Tiguan. The power structure of the body is identical to Tiguanovskaya, front and rear suspension from the Passat, although the body of the Yeti is shorter by 45 mm. Yeti designers boldly beat the racks and lighting equipment. The crossover was equipped with more practical unpainted bumpers and other thresholds. The Czechs managed to create a surprisingly paradoxical image: Yeti is both calm and expressive, youthful and conservative. The crossover is fresh and traditional at the same time...

There are two engines with which Yetis are delivered to Russia - 1.2 TSI (105 hp, 175 N m) and 1.8 TSI (152 hp, 250 N m). The first motor can be selected as a mechanical five-speed gearbox gears, and with a seven-speed automatic DSG. But there is one thing, cars with a 1.2-liter “engine” are only front-wheel drive. 1.8 TSI - all-wheel drive, and so far it is available only with mechanical box gears. Preselective DSG on Yeti with powerful motors debuted just now - during the Geneva Motor Show. In Europe, such machines will be available in the very near future, and we will have them closer to winter. Diesel versions with power, and hp. (developing 250, 320 and 350 Nm, respectively) is not expected in Russia - they are too expensive for us. It's a pity, the motors are excellent - and they are not deprived of traction, and the economy is good.

The Octavia Scout is a derivative of the light all-wheel drive Octavia Combi. It differs from the road version of the Scout in increased ground clearance (179 mm versus 140 mm) and a body more protected from mechanical influences. Bumpers with plastic "skis" are not afraid of shocks and rough mechanical impacts. Thresholds and wheel arches are protected by unpainted plastic lining. The engine received enhanced protection, and the bottom is covered with anti-gravel shields almost over the entire area. The basis of "Okta" is the Volkswagen platform PQ35, on which the "fifth" Golf is built. Hence the family habits.

Our car is offered with a single power unit- A 152-horsepower turbocharged engine (it is also put on the Yeti) works here with a six-speed mechanics. In Europe gasoline engine an alternative is offered - a 140-horsepower diesel engine developing 320 N∙m, it is also available only with a manual transmission.

Petrol 1.8 TSI deserves only flattering words. No wonder this motor in Russia for both cars has become the "main". The TSI pulls hard already from 2000 rpm. Yeti and Scout after pressing the gas pedal simply lose weight and rush forward. At the same time, an excess of traction is not felt even on slippery surfaces. Acceleration is easy and pleasant to control, as the maximum torque range of 250 Nm lies between 1500-3500 rpm.

In "Okta" to sit behind the wheel - a pleasure. "Half-recumbent" landing, the widest range of adjustments... Drivers of any build will comfortably settle down at the workplace. In one sitting in the wagon without straining, you can overcome many hundreds of kilometers. The driver in the Yeti sits more vertically than in the Octavia, landing one on one as in the Tiguan and Golf Plus. Tall people are less comfortable here. The reach adjustment range is not enough, I always wanted to “pull out” the steering wheel towards myself a little.

Another ergonomic blunder - the steering wheel covers the upper segments of the large instrument scales, which migrated here with some changes from the Superba. Behind in both cars "by themselves" even basketball players will sit down. The quality of finishing materials and performance in both machines are at their best. In terms of transformations, the Bigfoot salon is definitely the best among classmates. The VarioFlex system allows you to modify the interior space as you please. The rear sofa is “cut” into three separate seats, all of which move back and forth independently of each other and have backrest tilt adjustments. With such seats, a compromise between the seated passengers and the cargo carried is very easy to find. If all the seats are moved forward and the backs are placed as vertically as possible, the trunk volume (along the bottom window line) will increase from 322 to 510 liters. If you need to transport something long, but not too large, you can simply “put” the backs on the pillows - the cargo compartment will increase to 1580 liters.

It is also allowed to fold and fix each of the folded seats vertically (they will stand close to the front seats). In case you need maximum volume, the back row can generally be dismantled. Fortunately, the removal / installation operation is simple, and the mass of the seats themselves is small. Then the volume cargo compartment will increase to a record 1760 liters! If you know what's on back row there will be two passengers, you can add comfort to them on a long journey by removing the central section of the "sofa" and moving the outer sections to the center. What's the point? It's simple - those sitting behind will no longer touch the doors and racks with their shoulders and heads. Transformation salon Octavia simpler. Here, the rear folding "sofa" is "cut" in a ratio of 2:3. The seats, of course, are not removable, but they can be heated. The volume of the trunk, which with the rear row unfolded is 605 liters (along the window sill line), can be increased to 1655 liters.

On Yeti and all-wheel drive Octavia, we managed to ride several times already. The first acquaintance with the Bigfoot took place in Slovenia last spring. We first tried the all-wheel drive Okta with the new Haldex clutch in Sweden at the beginning of last year. Now we were racing cars in the Swiss Alps. There is a whole range of road difficulties here: passes with many long winding ascents and descents, snow, ice, snowstorms, periodic transitions through zero temperature, high-speed autobahns ...

The village of Saas Fee, which is located on a plateau at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level, is a famous ski resort. The Swiss care about the cleanliness of the glaciers. Upon reaching Saas Fee, the car must be left in the park and ride. People move around the village either on foot or in electric cars. On one of the peaks surrounding Saas Fee called Allalin observation deck and the world's highest revolving restaurant, they are located at an altitude of 3500 meters above sea level

Yeti behaves very maturely on asphalt. Even despite the relatively high center of gravity - there is almost no roll in corners, there is adequate feedback force on the steering wheel. The suspension here is more energy-intensive and comfortable ( diesel versions with heavy motors are less comfortable due to reinforced springs). Scout is stiffer, the microprofile of the roadway on the body is transmitted more distinctly here. The station wagon drives great. Acoustic comfort parity. The dynamics (with a 1.8 TSI engine) are also identical, both have eight and a half seconds to “hundreds”, and the maximum speed is 200 km / h. The 1.2-liter front-wheel drive Yeti is, of course, slower. From a standstill, it picks up 100 km / h in 11.8 seconds (with automatic DSG - 12), the maximum speed is 175 km / h. Such a Yeti is much more economical, in mixed mode for 100 kilometers it requires 6.4 liters of gasoline, a 1.8-liter engine eats 8.0 liters. Octavia in the combined cycle requires 7.8 liters due to better aerodynamics.

On icy and snowy passes, thanks to the all-wheel drive, you feel much more confident. Where two-wheel drive vehicles have long required snow chains, our all-wheel drive vehicles continue to go on and on even on non-studded tires. But on Swiss roads with a perfect canvas, you will not feel all the charm of an off-road package. Actually, that's why we decided to conduct an additional off-road test in Russia, arranging a 700-kilometer marathon in the Moscow and Kaluga regions. Uncleaned Russian country roads, which we used to get to the village of Nikola-Lenivets, again confirmed the advantages of all-wheel drive. By the way, we spent the whole day in Nikola and did not regret it a bit.

Hello field! Yeti has a clearance of 180 mm, Scout "sits" just 1 mm lower. But Yeti off-road feels noticeably more confident thanks to better geometric patency. With an equal base (2578 mm), the Yeti is 361 mm shorter than the Octavia (4223 versus 4584 mm), its overhangs are smaller, and the exit / entry angles are larger. Although the deepest tractor track, unnoticed under the snow, across which I sat on the Octavia, the Yeti still would not have overcome. To pull our station wagon out of the frozen trap, it took a jack and a tractor, the role of which was played by a Defender passing by ...

In the Kaluga region, a special surprise awaited us - the village of Nikola-Lenivets. There is a surprise four hours cruising from Moscow on the territory of the Ugra National Park. The village for the capital's creators was opened back in 1989 by the Moscow architect Vasily Shchetinin, who came to the Ugra in search of a place for a small artistic village with workshop houses. And already in the early 1990s, artists began to move to a village cut off from civilization. Among them are several members of the St. Petersburg group "Mitki". One of the first who believed in the possibility of building such a "creative" village was Nikolai Polissky. It was he who set the artistic concept of Nikola-Lenivets - land art

There are many strange objects on the territory near the village. Giant wooden beetles on poles. The goofy giant Crane, which used to look at the sky, broke (or was it broken?). At the end of Zhuravel's "rod" there is a small bucket. At the bottom right, Nikolino's ear, oriented towards the river, isolates the Listener from the noise from the village and allows you to listen to the Silence ... In general, there is a lot of food for the brain and soul

Yeti off-road movement can greatly simplify. The crossover has a hill descent assist system that works both when moving forward and when moving backward. In order to activate it, you need to turn on the OFF ROAD mode (in this case, the responses to the gas pedal are smoother), stop on the descent and switch to neutral. To move, you need to release the brake. The system allows you to adjust the speed of descent. Step on the gas - go faster, hit the brake - slower. ABS maintains the set speed (adjusts for the most effective braking on slippery/loose surfaces), selectively slowing down the desired wheels and diligently refueling the car on the selected trajectory. The system is useful both on a slope that has become muddy after rain, and on an icy spiral of a multi-storey parking lot ...

Eiffel Tower prototype? Didn't guess. A river lighthouse that operates only during the day. Materials used: trees, branches, bolts, mounting studs. You can climb to the upper tier by a spiral staircase (although it is very difficult to call it a staircase) - of course, wooden

What resume? The Octavia Scout is more road-friendly, with better aerodynamics and lower fuel consumption, as well as a tighter suspension that is less desirable on rough roads. A large family in Scout will fit better - it has a larger trunk. Yeti on asphalt is no worse, but it overcomes light off-road more confidently thanks to better geometric cross-country ability and the presence of auxiliary electronics. At the same time, it is less comfortable for tall drivers. workplace and less (with unfolded seats) trunk. Although the Yeti is more passenger-friendly, the rear removable seats have a number of adjustments. If the seats are dismantled, the maximum volume of the cargo compartment will be even greater than that of the Scout.

The hyperboloid cooling tower is a huge tower (12 meters in diameter and 15 meters in height) woven from vines and branches, from which a column of light and smoke escapes. The cooling tower smokes in an environmentally friendly way, offering the viewer to think about the line between the primordial nature and the desire of man to enslave it.

The ten-meter Firebird is welded from cast iron. In the bird's womb there is a firebox into which firewood is laid, and air is blown into it by an industrial fan from below. Tongues of flame and sparks burst out through the mouths of heads and holes in the wings. National imperial mythology

In terms of security, Yeti is preferable. According to the Euro NCAP test methodology, Yeti received a five-star rating, Octavia is content with four stars. Both cars "on the perimeter" can have six airbags. In Yeti, a pair of side airbags (like on the Tiguan) are available on request, designed for rear passengers. The switchable stabilization system works on both skid and drift on both vehicles.

Floating condo. Not only people and pets suffer from the flood, but also favorite things and products ... All these things need to find a place. According to the creators, plastic boxes are best suited for this. The presented concept proposes to use these boxes as the main structural element of the life-saving raft house.

Rotunda is a small oval house in the middle of a field, painted pink. It is located at an important view point, from where a beautiful circular panorama of the surroundings opens. Designed to enter, make a fire in the hearth and admire the scenery. Different-sized doors, succumbing to the force of the wind, slam every now and then, alternately opening and closing

A spiral is an ever-acting self-regulating vessel that forms something like a whirlpool of a river. The ship moves from point A to point B in whirlwind movements resembling a dance. Bottom right swing, for several dozen people

The all-wheel drive Yeti “starts” at 899,000 rubles. Octavia Scout will cost at least 979,000. These Scout 80 thousand include side airbags with curtains, rear parking sensors, dual-zone “climate” (Yeti has air conditioning), on-board computer, light and rain sensors, rear power windows, audio system with CD/MP3 changer, alloy wheels, fog lights, cruise control. The listed benefits of civilization in Yeti can be obtained by stopping at the Experience for 1,019,000 rubles, and even then not all, for some things that are already in the basic version of Octavia, you need to pay extra.

The Skoda Yeti is an almost perfect crossover in every respect, with excellent technical and aesthetic characteristics.
