On April 6, 2017, orders for the new Skoda Kodiaq crossover 2017-2018 model year started in Russia. The long-awaited novelty of Skoda, capable of competing with the recognized masters of the mid-size SUV class, will appear in showrooms in June. True, the first copies of the model will be supplied to the Russian market in limited quantities from the Czech Republic, and initial configurations are not yet expected. The new Skoda Kodiak 2017-2018 of Czech production will arrive in rather rich Ambition Plus versions (price from 1,999,000 rubles) and Style Plus (from 2,315,000 rubles). These will be modifications with a 1.4 TSI petrol turbo engine with 150 hp, a 6-speed DSG box and all-wheel drive.

A full-fledged launch of the new Skoda model will take place at the beginning of 2018, when the first cars of localized assembly will start to roll off the assembly line of the plant in Nizhny Novgorod. At the same time, the range of modifications and complete sets of the crossover will expand significantly, including versions in the basic version. The initial price of Skoda Kodiak with a 1.4 TSI 125 hp engine, 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, according to preliminary data, will be 1,500,000 rubles. Pre-orders for such versions of the SUV can also be placed now, but closer to the release date, the cost may change.

What is the Skoda Kodiaq?

The new Skoda crossover belongs to the category of mid-size SUVs, perfect for driving on any type of surface, except for outright offroad. The car is built on the modular MQB platform, which is the basis of the related Tiguan. For the car, five- and seven-seater layout options are provided, which, coupled with an impressive trunk volume, makes the Kodiaq suitable for family voyages.

The placement of the third row required an increase in the wheelbase, which eventually stretched to 2791 mm (+114 mm to the Tiguan's base). The overall dimensions of the body of the new Skoda Kodiak were: length - 4697 mm, width - 1882 mm, height - 1676 mm. The ground clearance of the SUV does not exceed 188 mm. External design of the new model

The appearance of the new Kodiak is decided in the style of other cars of the brand. From this follow the somewhat angular outlines of the body, all elements of the external decor flaunt sharp edges. At the front, the signature grille sets the tone, with an elegant chrome frame and a vertical palisade of twin lintels that form an interesting three-dimensional effect. On the sides of the false radiator, strongly narrowed headlights were attached, emphasized from below by thin lines of LED running lights. Halogen front optics are provided as standard, in expensive versions or for a surcharge - fully LED blocks. Small sections of foglights, equipped with rotary spotlights, were attached exactly under the main headlights.

The solid front bumper of the crossover impresses with a full-width air intake slot. This design visually increases the width of the car, at the same time gives a sense of reliability and stability.

The stern of the Skoda novelty is decorated with stylish multi-faceted lights with bright LED “stuffing”. A fairly large tailgate of the correct shape and a laconic rear bumper with two strokes of foglights complete the formation, albeit not sparkling with design frills, but still very pretty and foldable rear of the SUV body.

The profile of the Skoda Kodiak has a standard "crossover" shape with short overhangs, a slightly littered roof line and a high window sill. The side mirrors seem a bit small - this is the price to pay for the improvement in aerodynamic performance. The streamlining, by the way, of the crossover is very good, as evidenced by the Cx coefficient equal to 0.33. In the wheel arches of the model are discs measuring 17-19 inches.

Salon Features

The interior of the new Kodiak is distinguished by good quality finishing materials, well-thought-out ergonomics and a lot of “smart” solutions familiar to Skoda. The front panel is designed in a simple style, eliminating unnecessary keys and switches. The multimedia system is also controlled only by sensors (physical buttons are provided only for the initial Swing radio).

The range of head units is quite wide and they are all familiar from other Czech models, for example, the same one. The list includes:

• Swing with 6.5" display (SD card slot, USB);
• Bolero with 8.0 inch screen (SD card slot, USB, Bluetooth, SmartLink+);
• Amundsen with 8.0" display (navigation, MapCare, 2 SD card slots, USB, Bluetooth, SmartLink+);
• Columbus with 8.0" screen (navigation, MapCare, Wi-Fi, DAB digital radio, 2 SD card slots, USB, Bluetooth, SmartLink+, wireless smartphone charging and external antenna connection, LTE connection).

The first row of seats will easily accommodate riders with any anthropometric data. A comfortable fit is facilitated by the exemplary profile of the seats, tangible lateral support, optimal padding density and the presence of the necessary adjustments. In expensive trim levels, the driver's seat is equipped with an electric drive with lumbar support and position memory.

Being behind the wheel makes it possible to appreciate the ergonomically adjusted layout of the controls. At hand are a convenient climate control panel, a box for a smartphone with USB and AUX connectors, a little further, but within reach - two glove boxes of medium capacity. The instrument cluster before your eyes, although it has an unusual digitization, is still read quite easily and does not overload with unnecessary information. The display of the on-board computer in the initial versions is monochrome, in more saturated ones it is color.

The second row, subject to a five-seat cabin configuration, provides real expanse, allowing three adults to sit down without noticeable discomfort. By default, the seats can change the inclination of the backrest and shift in the longitudinal direction. Plus, the rear passengers have their own electric control panel with climate control buttons and heated seats, a USB port, 220 and 12 volt sockets. There are also folding tables with folding coasters.

The optional third row of seats guarantees acceptable seating for a person with no taller than average height. At the same time, the passengers sitting in front, most likely, will be forced to move all the way forward, which will significantly constrain them. However, with such external dimensions of the car, one cannot expect a more comfortable fit in the back, and none of the comparable competitors with seven seats is ready to offer better conditions.

The trunk of the new Skoda Kodiak is organized to the envy of classmates. The volume of the cargo compartment with a five-seater version of the crossover is 650 liters, with a seven-seater - 270 liters. Folding the rear seat backs creates a completely flat loading area, and the luggage compartment capacity increases to 2065 liters (in the case of 7 seats - 2005 liters). Interestingly, on the front row on the right, you can optionally install a chair with a folding backrest, which will allow you to transport very large lengths.

The world premiere of Karoq took place in the spring of 2017. The model is built on the MQB platform. At the moment, only Skoda Karoq with a two-liter diesel engine has all-wheel drive, however, Karoq 1.5 TSI 4 × 4 may soon appear in the Old World.

In Russia, the motor of the EA211 Evo family is unlikely to be available - it would have to be “fed” by the AI-98, which most Russian buyers are clearly not ready for. But the “aspirated” 1.6 MPI (EA211), the production of which is established in Kaluga, would suit “our” Karoku as the base engine ... It is possible that the crossover will also receive 1.4 TSI (EA211), familiar from other models of the Volkswagen concern, presented in Russia.

As for the production site, at the beginning of this year, contract assembly of Skoda Yeti was terminated at GAZ, which, in fact, was replaced by Karoq. Today in Nizhny Novgorod they produce two models of Skoda - and Octavia. It is possible that Karok will join them next year, since the Kodiak is also built on the MQB “trolley”.

Meanwhile, as previously reported, in 2020, the production of an “analogue” of Karoq from Volkswagen, may start in Russia. This model will probably be assembled in Kaluga (VW Tiguan and Polo, Skoda Rapid are also produced there today).

The Skoda Kodiaq is a new mid-size SUV from the Czech automaker Skoda Auto. The premiere took place at the end of 2016. Skoda Kodiaq Scout

The Kodiak with improved off-road capability appeared in the new Scout modification, which Skoda presented in March at the Geneva Motor Show. Previously, "scouts" were a modification of Skoda's off-road station wagons, and now it is also a crossover with the makings of an SUV. The car's suspension characteristics have been changed. Ground clearance 194 mm instead of 187 mm. The angle of entry is 22° (previously it was 19.1°), the exit angle is 23.1° (instead of 15.6°). You can visually identify the modification by the silver inserts in the unpainted bumper and grille.

Kodiak Scout is presented only in the Ambition configuration, exclusively with all-wheel drive and 1.4 TSI (110 hp) or 2 TSI (180 hp) engines. Skoda Kodiaq Sportline

The sports modification of the Skoda KodiaQ Sportline has not yet been finally approved, but it has good performance. In addition to the original exterior (chrome parts, a system of mirrors and pads on wheels and bumpers), the car has rich technical equipment: all the necessary security systems, adaptive shock absorbers. The interior will have modern leather and Alcantara trim, an advanced multimedia system, and LED interior lighting.

Sales in Europe began immediately after the premiere. It is too early to talk about the supply of Sportline and Scout modifications to Russia, at least until 2018. In the near future, the concern plans to open the production of the basic Kodiak model in Russia.
