It would be nice if they gave immediately, if the car is available, but still waiting for a week of TCP. Seduced box — shestistupka mechanics — it's something. I don’t digest automatics myself, but it’s the same with automatic weapons, who don’t know how to handle a box. I decided to contribute to writing reviews, especially since there are not so many souls on this resource)))

Soul was my first new (in the sense of the cabin) machine. Before that it was: Moskvich IZH21251, Daewoo Sens, Chevrolet Aveo, Forester 2007, Outback 2005. Moskvich deserves a separate review, but that’s like a thread another time))) Subars (both) were a childhood dream, but still riding them for some time, and evaluating not only the merits, but also the cost of the bush Subaru service, I decided to take something, let it be simpler, but new and under warranty. By the way, Forik with manual transmission did not break almost at all, but, damn it, it pulled me to change it to an outback with automatic transmission — that's where it all started))).

Now closer to the point. Choosing a car, I went through the following options: Octavia 1.8TSI DSG, Golf 1.4 TSI DSG, Lancer 1.6 automatic transmission, Tucson 2.0, Suzuki SX4, nissan note 1.6, Citron C4, Wad 307. KIA did not consider the brand at first in principle. The French auto industry disappeared immediately - everything is beautiful and good, but, stsuko, that’s all. How people move along our highways with one lane in each direction is incomprehensible to the mind, there is no acceleration dynamics in principle. Well, after Subaru, they have a very low-flying clearance)). Lancer did not cause any emotions, the car is like a car, but those 25 thujas that they asked for were clearly not worth it. Nissan Note — the appearance is not for me, sitting in it is not very comfortable (height 198), and the 4-mortar automatic machine in our time is no longer comme il faut (although, probably, reliable, xs). Still did not like the cotton brakes on the laptop. The jerboa pleased with the low price and some “off-road”, but upset with the terrible quality of the interior, the ancient stupid voracious machine gun and the inability to nest normally on driving position(adjusting the seat up and down at that time was already absent in any configuration). In general, I categorically refused to carry the ceiling on my head. Suzuku test-driven more out of curiosity than with serious intentions. First impressions - wooden salon, the engine howls, but does not go - in general, it is necessary to refine it with a file ... Octavia and Golf - I liked it in almost all respects, but the price tag for them was approaching 30 thujas in a normal configuration, so I decided that I had to live within my means)))

By comparison different cars among themselves, it becomes easier for many buyers to make the final choice. Moreover, the analysis must be as objective and unbiased as possible.

Even within one automaker, you can find several worthy crossovers between which there is an internal struggle. Motorists do not know who to give preference to and what characteristics or criteria to focus on.

Because of this, comparison often includes cars that, in principle, belong to different categories according to one or another parameter. In the case of the Nissan Qashqai and Terrano, we are talking about compact SUVs with slightly different pricing policy. One is a pronounced state employee, and the second is more likely to be considered. But all the same, models can and should be compared, taking into account the key and most significant characteristics.

General information

Qashqai Japanese company Nissan belongs to the category of compact SUV, which is equipped with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. This comparison involves the second generation, which was born in 2014, and in 2018 it went through a planned restyling.

Qashqai is the first car of the brand, for the production of which they used a new modular platform cmf. It is now creating a new generation of X-Trail.

Nissan Terrano is actually a converted version of its assembled from Renault in the face of the Duster model. The platform used is the same as that of Duster. This is the third generation Terrano, which is a representative of the budget compact SUV segment. First appeared in 2013 at the international exhibition in Mumbai. Although Terrano was originally planned to be produced exclusively for the Indian market, sales in Russia started in 2014. In 2016, the car went through a planned restyling and remains unchanged to this day. Moreover, as part of the modernization, the appearance was left untouched, improving the engines, adding new modifications and raising the cost.

Exterior

In order to compare the Nissan Terrano and Nissan Qashqai with each other, it is worth starting with the appearance of the two crossovers.

The lack of appearance updates since the beginning of the existence of the 3rd generation Terrano still affects. The exterior of this budget SUV can hardly be called modern. The car looks quite simple, devoid of all sorts of complex stampings. The front part looks frankly good, and the relationship with Renault Duster.

The image of Terrano is off-road, uncharacteristic for modern urban crossovers. This is both good and bad, because some consider such a look to be successful, while others complain about some discrepancy between the exterior and real off-road capabilities. If the back and side of the Terrano looks like a Duster, then the front end is in many ways reminiscent of Nissan Pathfinder. And this is an obvious advantage. Also, the bevel and solid protection on the front bumper should be attributed to the positive aspects, with the help of which the car receives improved capabilities in terms of cross-country ability.

The second generation Nissan Qashqai, and even after the planned restyling, allows you to position the model as a full-fledged urban modern crossover. The look is stylish, dynamic and European. Beautiful lines, refined optics, the original front end, combined with massive arches and a muscular body make the second Qashqai an extremely attractive option.

For Qashqai, solutions are provided that correspond to the new corporate style of Nissan. There is a possibility that Terrano will receive something similar after the update. But so far nothing has been officially announced about this.

As a result, according to external data, Qashqai is perceived as a true city dweller, and Terrano is more like an SUV, but only in a reduced size. Everyone decides for himself what is closer to him. But objectively, the exterior of Qashqai turned out to be much more attractive than the already outdated Terrano.

In terms of dimensions, Qashqai offers the following figures:

  • 4377 mm. in length;
  • 1806 mm. in width;
  • 1590 mm. in height;
  • 200 mm. clearance;
  • 2646 mm. wheelbase.

Terrano received largely similar dimensions. In numbers it looks like this:

  • length 4342 mm;
  • height 1668 mm;
  • width 1822 mm;
  • 210 mm;
  • wheelbase 2674 mm.

It is important not just to have equal sizes. Much more important is how well the engineers will be able to use these dimensions. First of all, they are reflected in the space inside the cabin, as well as in the volume of the luggage compartment.

Interior and trunks

If you have ever been behind the wheel of a Renault Duster, then when you land in a Nissan Terrano, you will practically not feel anything new for yourself. The solutions inside the crossover turned out to be too similar.

The most attractive salon is the one that was updated in 2017. The interior in Terrano looks as profitable as possible only in the top configuration, where there is a touch-sensitive multimedia display, nice washers responsible for climate control, as well as various inserts and metal-like decor. In the basic version, everything is excessively boring and gray. Ergonomics is not exemplary, there are obvious disadvantages, as well as its advantages. Looking inside Terrano, you perfectly understand that you have a budget crossover in front of you. And you should be ready for this.

The issue of comfort for the driver and passengers was clearly not given enough attention, or they simply did not want to invest a lot of money. As a result, there is a lot of space in the back and in front, there is no shortage of legroom or in the ceiling. But the front seats are devoid of tangible lateral support, the pillows are flat and hard. Behind the same problem.

Qashqai maintains the perfect balance between the quality of the materials used and ergonomics. Everything is in its place, the finish is on the level, the decorative inserts are quite appropriate. The interior of Qasgqai can be described as modern and neat, purely European, in line with current trends.

Ahead are very comfortable seats with pronounced lateral support and ample opportunities for adjustment. But rear passengers cannot count on the same level of comfort. The sofa is flat, the pillow is hard. Calculation for 3 seats.

Rear seating is more spacious in the Terrano. With approximately the same level of comfort sofas, a slight advantage in the comfort of the rear passengers of the budget crossover from Nissan. But if we talk about general impression, then Qashqai will be the undeniable favorite.

Regardless of the type of drive, Qashqai offers 430 liters of free trunk space in the stowed position. Folding the back row, a flat floor is formed, and the volume increases to 1585 liters.

The dimensions of the Terrano trunk are affected by the use of a full or front wheel drive. In the first case, the compartment has only 408 liters, but in the second it increases to 475 liters, surpassing the Qashqai. With the rear seats folded down, a fairly flat area is formed with a volume of 1570 and 1646 liters for all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive, respectively.

In both cases, there is a niche in the subfloor where a full-size spare tire is located.

With a slight margin and subject to front-wheel drive, the Terrano wins in terms of trunk volume. And here all-wheel drive modification inferior to the more compact Qashqai.

Motors, gearboxes and their capabilities

It is also worth looking for differences between the Nissan Qashqai and the budget Nissan Terrano in terms of their performance, economy and dynamics.

To understand how one crossover differs from another, just look at the proposed engines, gearboxes, as well as the dynamics and efficiency indicators of the available internal combustion engines.

To the great regret of many Russians, after restyling for Russia it became unavailable with a capacity of 130 Horse power with a fuel consumption of less than 5 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km. Only gasoline engines remained, which somewhat equalized the chances of the two compared crossovers from the same manufacturer.

Therefore, the comparison will be carried out purely on those engines that are available for the Nissan Terrano and the conditional opponent Qashqai on Russian market.

Qashqai in Russia is sold with 2 engines.

  1. The base engine is a 1.2-liter turbo engine with 115 horsepower. Compatible with manual transmission or stepless variator. From zero to hundreds accelerates in 10.9 and 12.9 seconds. respectively. The maximum speed on the mechanics is 185, and on the variator only 173 kilometers per hour. It consumes an average of 5.6 to 6.2 liters of fuel per 100 km.
  2. The top is a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated internal combustion engine that generates 144 hp. Combined with mechanics and CVT. But all-wheel drive is only available with CVT box. On the mechanics, acceleration from standstill to hundreds takes 9.9 seconds, and the CVT gives from 10.1 to 10.5 seconds, depending on the drive. Fuel consumption averages 7.7 liters for mechanics and 6.9-7.3 liters for the variator.

In terms of technical characteristics, the Terrano is unlikely to surprise Duster owners or those who have studied the details of this car. This is due to the fact that Terrano is available 2 gasoline engines, which are also installed on the Duster. Diesel version for Terrano not provided by Renault. It's a pity.

  1. The standard or base internal combustion engine is considered to be a 1.6-liter engine with 114 horses. The front-wheel drive version is equipped with a 5 speed manual, and the all-wheel drive version comes with a 6 speed manual. Acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h takes from 10.9 to 12.5 seconds. Max speed only 167 kilometers per hour. In the combined cycle, consumption varies from 7.4 to 7.6 liters per 100 km.
  2. The senior engine is a 4-cylinder ICE volume 2.0 liters with a return of 143 horses. Such an engine comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed automatic, and exclusively with all-wheel drive. It takes from 10.7 to 11.5 seconds to accelerate, and the maximum speed does not exceed 180 kilometers per hour. On average, the engine will consume 7.8-8.7 liters of gasoline for every 100 km. way.

With relative equality in power, engines for Nissan Qashqai are more modern and economical, providing better dynamics.

Motors for Terrano cannot be called bad. But they do not accelerate the car well, do not demonstrate exemplary efficiency, and have a low maximum speed.

But the problem with Qashqai is that for some reason all-wheel drive only comes with a CVT box. At the same time, Terrano can be taken on all-wheel drive with an automatic and manual transmission, which is much more preferable in terms of operating the car in bad and off-road conditions.

Handling and maneuverability

This is a rather interesting and controversial question. If you are looking for an all-terrain small car that can get through difficult sections and overcome relatively difficult off-road, then the Nissan Terrano will be the most preferred choice without options.

The Terrano model has a powerful and strong suspension, thoughtful front bumper, factory engine protection, the minimum number of protruding elements, allowing you to squeeze the maximum out of 205 mm of ground clearance. But the Terrano's handling is worse, the car does not obey the driver so well. Off-road, the budget crossover definitely wins.

But if we take urban conditions as a basis, even with not the best quality road surface, the leadership goes to Qashqai. More comfortable, but not overly soft, suspension, obedient and precise steering. Although the Qashqai is only 5mm behind the Terrano. in terms of ground clearance, Qashqai has a body that is poorly adapted to off-road. The back part now and then clings to bumps.

It is difficult to make a choice in favor of one of the candidates, since each has different goals. If you are buying a crossover for the city, planning to periodically go by car somewhere in nature, which does not require you to wade through mud and swamp, then feel free to buy Nissan Qashqai. For those who need a rogue, a workhorse, a car for fishing and hunting, then definitely take the Terrano.

Options and cost

It's no secret that when choosing a car, many are guided by the issue of an affordable budget and the ability to get the most for less money.

Initially, it was said that the Terrano belongs to the budget SUV category, while the Qashqai is more of a mid-budget.

In 2019, the Nissan Qashqai is offered in Russia in 10 trim levels at once. For the simplest version, they ask for at least 1.3 million rubles. For this money, you can get a 1.2-liter base engine with a 6-speed manual. A minimum of 1.45 million will cost Qashqai with a 2.0-liter engine on a manual transmission, and at least 1.6 million will have to be paid for all-wheel drive.

In this case, the kit will consist of:

  • GLONASS;
  • 6 airbags;
  • windshield heating;
  • heated front seats;
  • electric windows for 4 doors;
  • air conditioner;
  • cruise control;
  • leather steering wheel, etc.

Terrano does not have a similar level of equipment. But the prices here are different. Terrano starts with a price tag of 980 thousand rubles, although back in 2017 it cost from 850 thousand.

It is really difficult to objectively answer the question of which is better - Nissan Terrano or Nissan Qashqai. Cars from different price categories are focused on slightly different categories of buyers and their goals.

If the budget is limited at around , it will still be difficult to determine whether to take the Terrano at maximum speed, or prefer the more modern and stylish Qashqai, albeit in the basic configuration. The set of equipment turned out to be too rich.

Abstracting from goals and budget, it is still possible to draw conclusions. qashqai is better your opponent in many respects, starting with the appearance, ending with a more advanced platform, a high level of security, technical specifications and economy. The Terrano should be seen as an inexpensive workhorse. Although the rise in prices has led to the fact that now it is unlikely to get Terrano for less than 1 million rubles. And for that kind of money you can buy a Duster in an excellent configuration, albeit with a more modest appearance. But the characteristics will remain the same, and the equipment is richer.

For urban operation, the modern motorist unconditionally the best choice will become Qashqai. For people who take a car for a fishing or hunting trip, for summer residents and gardeners, Terrano looks preferable. The car is cheaper in price and more affordable in terms of maintenance. Qashqai will have to spend more money.

It is impossible to say unequivocally that the Sorento looks better than the X-Trail or vice versa. They have completely different personalities and styles. Sorento shows practicality and pragmatism, but at the same time, he is not at all devoid of aggressiveness. Aerodynamic styling, large LED headlights, panoramic windshield, long straight hood, massive grille and high-tech front bumper give out its sporty spirit. The side line of the car perfectly combines the balance of body size, the size of the arches and wheels.

The X-Trail, on the other hand, gives the impression of an innovative, dynamic, bright representative of the crossover class. A high windshield, stylish LED headlights, a compact radiator grille, and a raised hood give it confidence and reliability. From the side, one can note the similarity of the body shape and the contours of the roof of the models, but from behind the Japanese looks much more progressive and more impressive than the Korean.

Korean developers have solved this problem - the size of the thresholds of the car allows you to get out without touching them. This feature is extremely rare in modern crossovers and SUVs.

A large touchscreen display with a Russified menu and easy navigation makes it possible to quickly work with the systems you need at the moment, and the on-board computer with pleasant soft backlighting will tell you everything about their current status. I would like to pay special attention to the practical glove box with built-in lighting and a shelf for storing small items.

Interior decoration competitor looks unfinished due to not very good layout of elements. But the ability to move the seats, increasing the volume of the trunk and legroom, gives this car some advantage. X-Trail capacity luggage compartment is 497 liters, while the Sorento has 530.

The NissanConnect multimedia system, among the options, has the ability to connect to a smartphone and allows you to access music, the Internet and social networks on the car's five-inch touchscreen display. Among the pleasant features of the Japanese can be noted the simple design of cooling and heating inside the cup holders, which is connected to the climate control system.

Nissan X-Trail interior

Both models feature a functional multi-wheel with a large number of options. Also, both have zoned climate control and a variety of useful sensors (rain, light, parking sensors, etc.), lane control, digital parking assistant, blind spot monitoring, push-button engine start and keyless entry.

Three stories

Let's start with the most controversial and controversial model. Of course you understand what I mean Nissan Juke.

This compact crossover was first shown to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010, and a year later, its sales began in Russia. It is built on the Nissan V platform, which it shares with Nissan Micra fourth generation (K13) and electric vehicle nissan leaf. Collect Juke on Nissan plant in the English city of Sunderland.

It is worth noting that Nissan did not launch a car with such a bold design into the series without first “shooting”. Initially, ASX was designed in the corporate style of Jet Fighter (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Corporation produces the F-2 jet fighter for the Japan Self-Defense Forces, and for some time this style was used in several models of the brand). The third test participant was born a little earlier than the other two, back in 2008 (if we talk about the model in general), and the birth took place not just anywhere, but in sunny California, where the American design studio of the Kia brand is located. And immediately after this event, a fierce debate began about what shelf of the automotive classification should be assigned to this Korean-Californian miracle, which received the name Soul (“Soul”). The Koreans themselves called what happened a “compact urban crossover (read “SUV”), someone saw it as just a front-wheel drive station wagon, someone saw it as a hatchback, and some even decided that they saw a minivan in front of them. Be that as it may, the car fell in love with the main target audience, to young urban professionals ("yuppies"), especially after maestro Peter Schreyer put some finishing touches on it, including the famous "tiger nose". And a real testament to this popularity (in addition to winning prestigious awards, including the Red Dot Award in the category "design cars”) became a million sold by 2015 Kia Soul.


In 2015, global sales of the second generation of the model began. One can only applaud its developers: they coped with the task of creating absolutely new car on a different platform (the Soul of the first generation was built on the Hyundai-Kia FF platform, and the second - PB), while completely retaining the original image.

During the change of generations, the Soul obviously added in solidity: the sides were rounded, the sharp stamping that stretched from the rear pillar to the upper edge of the front arch disappeared. The shape of the front and rear lighting has changed (although rear lights still occupy the entire height of the rear pillars, from the roof to the level of the arches), bumpers, tailgate... But the most important thing is that the car has become a little larger, the cabin has become much more spacious, and the trunk volume has increased from ridiculous 222 to quite acceptable 354 liters. But the car remained cute and is still perceived as a kind of charming, mischievous and cheerful muscular cube, similar to a puppy of some large breed.







Inner world of heroes

Part 1. Juke: funny on the face, hard on the inside

So what's in store for a man who's bought into Juke's looks? First of all, he needs to be prepared for a mismatch between the exterior and the interior, which simply lacks any soft elements, even in the LE Perso version. Although Perso, in theory, means "personification". But it is in this version that color inserts are available for free. True, it is worth noting that all the elements of a rather cheap-looking interior are assembled very well, nothing rattles or creaks, and the sound insulation is respected. In any case, after the first tactile acquaintance with the Juke's interior, you expect the worst.

In general, the interior is rather cramped, and a tall man behind the wheel fits back to back, but he will not be able to categorically sit down “by himself”. But as for the volume of the trunk, then the owner of the Juke is in for a pleasant surprise. Looking at the car from the side, you do not expect that the allowable amount of luggage carried is 354 liters.


Part 2. ASX: classic and practical

The interior design of the ASX is also not very avant-garde. Despite the CVT, the ASX rides quite assertively. In the city, the dynamics are quite enough, and a very small turning radius allows the ASX to easily maneuver in the urban jungle, although the indicator of 11.7 seconds to a hundred does not cause any enthusiasm.


But there are no electronic assistants (lane departure control, blind spots, parking assistants), without which it will soon be impossible to imagine even a tin can on wheels, in the car. You can also find fault with the work of the EUR: there are slight delays, although this is not felt at all in the city and in normal modes. The suspension is quite energy-intensive, speed bumps slip easily.

Kia Soul

On the move, the Soul is quite consistent with both its name and external image. He rides quite fervently, although, it seems, 10.2 seconds to a hundred - this is not God knows what. The combination of a sufficiently high-torque (of course, for a gasoline “four”) engine, a large wheelbase, a short body and classic hydromechanics allows you to drive very actively and energetically, without switching to “Sport” and without trying to change gears manually. The suspension does not irritate with its laxity (and to be honest, many models of the brand used to suffer from this particular sore), the power steering is also well tuned. The steering wheel itself is quite sharp, only 2.85 turns from lock to lock, with a clear and understandable “zero”. The situation with feedback is somewhat worse, but in difficult situations, active safety systems come into play.


But what is sometimes lacking is energy intensity: when moving through speed bumps rear axle Soul bucks pretty hard. For the same reason, you need to be very careful when driving on a primer or grader. Soul does not have all-wheel drive and, as company representatives say, will not, so the model can be considered a crossover only nominally: yes, bumpers and sills are plastic protection, yes, the Soul is characterized by small overhangs, which means decent entry and exit angles. Little Soul with two-liter engine you can’t name it: in the combined cycle, it really “eats” about 12 liters per hundred, and in traffic jams, the consumption can reach up to 14-15.

How much, why and for whom

Well, you can sum up ... Of the presented in the test Nissan models Juke is definitely the most budget option(unless, of course, you can call a "budget" car at a price of 1,288,000 rubles). He has an ambiguous (although, no doubt, original) appearance and a Spartan interior with modest optional content, and his dynamic capabilities don't match the sassy looks very well.

Probably, talking about the Mitsubishi ASX, you can cling to something else, in addition to the shortcomings mentioned, but why? By and large, there are no frills in the car, but everything you need is there. This is definitely the most boring model of the three presented, but practical, having enough spacious salon and equipped with all-wheel drive. True, for this practicality and off-road capabilities you will have to pay 1,450,000 rubles.


Well, Kia Soul ... This is the undisputed leader of our test in terms of price balance, visual appeal, interior comfort and running characteristics. At a price of 1,361,000 rubles, it offers the most complete interior content, significantly better than both rivals, a more powerful engine than the Juke, better dynamics, and not a variator, but a hydromechanical transmission, which predetermines a more adequate response to pressing the pedal gas. The recognition and originality of its appearance is not inferior to Juke (although, of course, the design language of these models differs in the most radical way), and the only thing that can be complained about is the rather high fuel consumption.

In general, they are so different! But it is precisely these differences that make it possible for a young and energetic urban professional to choose a car to his liking.
