Reviews of the owners of KIA Magentis (KIA Magentis). Two-liter engines - G4KA and G4KD

“Kia Magentis” of the previous generation, being a model of the “family” category, cost no more than a golf class car ( affordable price provided by the Russian assembly). Nevertheless, this sedan did not enjoy much success with us. Buyers were little attracted by the inexpressive design and by no means outstanding quality of interior trim. Built on the same platform, "Hyundai Sonata" has earned much greater popularity ... And in March, a fundamentally different "Magentis" enters our market, nothing like its predecessor. Its trump cards are a modern look, more powerful engines, quality interior. The distributor of the Korean brand - the company "Kia Sandol" invited us to get acquainted with the novelty in Spain, where the European premiere of "Magentis" was held.

In the land of winemakers

The modern interior is a big step forward compared to the old Magentis.

A few days before the flight to Spain, I received a package from Kia Sandol. Inside is a large wall calendar. Traditionally, such a branded “souvenir” contains advertising shots. model range, but here was something else - landscapes of rare beauty. From the signatures it followed that these were famous wine regions: Bordeaux, Champagne, the Rhone Valley... And here is the logo of a Korean company. That's how exquisitely "Kia" now presents itself. Creating a rather aristocratic image is an important part of the company's strategy in recent years: after all, Kia cars are also reaching a new qualitative level.

The previous version of "Magentis" was based on the fifth generation "Hyundai Sonata" platform. Last year, Sonata had an heir - new model“NF”, which its creators tried to bring as close as possible to European standards in terms of design, power, and equipment. The debutant from “Kia” is now also coming out on the same new platform.

Cars were waiting for us on the southwestern coast of Spain, in the city of Jerez. (I wonder if winemaking is becoming a part of Kia's corporate style?) Here, at the end of winter, it is quite warm, cherry blossoms begin to bloom. And the places are suitable for driving: there are high-speed highways, or you can rush along picturesque mountain serpentines with a breeze. Therefore, I decided to start my acquaintance with the new “Magentis” with the most powerful modification. And here is the first surprise: the flagship 3.3-liter V6, which is supplied with the Hyundai NF, is not installed on the Kia. The debutant received a more modest engine - a volume of 2.7 liters. The platform is one, but the status is lower?

The winding road requires every now and then to slow down before turns and again take acceleration on straight lines. An engine that develops 188 forces does this with ease. A little pacifies his ardor only "automatic". Here it is a 5-speed, tuned for comfortable - extremely smooth - shifts. It turns out a little faster if you put the box in manual mode. And the traditional mechanical transmission for the 2.7-liter engine is not provided.

The mountain track, which had to be driven at a ragged rhythm, soon turned into a spacious highway, and if “Magentis” were a living creature, I would say that he cheered up. In the left lane of the highway, the speedometer needle quickly crept up to 200 km / h. According to the passport, the maximum is 220 km / h, but I did not dare to check this. Let the road be empty and the police not visible, but you never know what ...

Since the new sedan was created with an eye on European buyers, Kia for the first time included a diesel version in the range of modifications. Interesting to try! The organizers provided for a stop for a short rest, after which I moved to a car with a “2.0 CRDi” engine. Its 140 HP more suitable for a phlegmatic ride, and the “automatic” is outdated here - 4-speed. At the first opportunity, I gave this car to my Bulgarian colleagues - anyway, the diesel version will not be delivered to Russia. In return, I received “Magentis” from them with a base gasoline engine. This is also a new 2-liter "four". It seemed that one could not expect much agility from her, but with this 145-horsepower engine and with a manual transmission (by the way, you can order an “automatic” as well), the sedan drove surprisingly cheerfully. Affects less compared to the flagship weight (this modification is lighter by almost 100 kg than the version with V6).

On the way to a sports option?

In the BRIGHT rays of the southern sun, Magentis looks solid and elegant. No comparison to the boring exterior of its predecessor. But if the sister model "NF" from "Hyundai" has a lot of memorable features (narrowed headlights, pointed lines, etc.), then the creators of the new "Magentis" decided not to look for fresh ideas. With a cursory glance from the debutant, it can be mistaken for a Toyota Camry or for some of the Lexuses of the past generation, and the closest analogy is the Infiniti Q45. To consider this similarity as a disadvantage or advantage is a matter of personal taste ...

From now on, there is absolutely nothing to complain about in the salon. The boring lines, pale plastics and fake wood that used to decorate the interior of the previous model are a thing of the past. They were replaced by a strict finish in the “business style”, competent ergonomics ... The steering wheel is adjustable in a very wide range both in height and in reach. Stylish instruments with blue backlight are perfectly readable. On request, you can also get the now fashionable keyless engine start system.

In models of the “family” class, a lot of attention is traditionally paid to the comfort of passengers, but the previous “Magentis”, to be honest, did not shine with such advantages. Despite the large size of the body, the back was a bit cramped. Passengers taller than average, one might say, propped up the ceiling with their heads. Now, no problem. It had an effect that the novelty is both longer and wider, and most importantly, the ceiling has risen noticeably - by as much as 7 cm. The creators of the model are proud to note that in terms of headroom, “Magentis” outperforms European and Japanese counterparts - “Ford Mon-deo ”, “Mazda 6” and “Peugeot 407”.

At the same time, the comparison of the new “Magentis” with the world leaders of the D-class does not seem at all strained, and this is the main merit of the debutant's developers. Brand "Kia" from the "affordable" segment stepped up a notch. As marketers say, it has been repositioned.

At the press conference, the topic of promoting the Korean brand received an unexpected

turn. A Romanian colleague asked a seemingly naive question:

– “Kia” sponsors sporting events: World Cup, tennis Davis Cup, “Australian Open”. Isn't it time to release sports cars? For example, to make a “hot” version in the “Magentis” range, like, say, “Mazda 6 MPS” ...

The response of Won-Dong Choi, deputy head of Kia's Middle East and Africa division, wiped the ironic smiles from the journalists' faces:

We also recommend test drives of competing cars

Audi A6
(4-door sedan)

Generation C8 Test drives 21

You hit the mark, we are working on it.

Damn it, do the Koreans really intend to release a sports sedan ?! But then the speaker, without blinking an eye, clarified:

- Actually, we will not change the suspension and motors, but the bumpers, sills and radiator grille will receive a bright dynamic design.

There was no sensation. However, a bit of external individuality really will not be superfluous for the novelty from “Kia”. The "Magentis" sedan with a "sporty slant" the company is preparing to introduce by the end of the year.

The Koreans compare the new "Magentis" with the best European and Japanese counterparts, and these comparisons do not look strained.

P.S. The previous generation of "Magentis", produced in Russia, is now leaving the scene - dealers are selling the last copies. And the debutant is already on his way to the salons. But this is "Magentis" made in Korea. Contract for Russian assembly terminated.

Kia Magentis was the debut model developed jointly by 2 Korean automakers: Hyundai and Kia. The car was first presented at the Paris Motor Show back in 2001, where it earned a lot of accolades. What made it so attractive to millions of drivers from all over the world? Read more about this.

Magentis 1st generation

The car was built on the same platform as the 4th generation. attractive design, powerful engine and a rich set of options - all this has created "Kia Magentis" immense popularity. The car is available in 2 versions: with a two-liter 136-horsepower engine and a V-shaped "six", which develops 160 hp. with a volume of 2.5 liters. Both engines are aggregated with a 5-speed "mechanics" or a 4-speed "automatic" Tiptronic. As for the optional set, already in the basic version the car is equipped with air conditioning, power windows, an airbag for the driver, audio preparation, an air quality control system and much more.

In 2003, a restyled version of the Kia Magentis appeared on the market, where the designers changed the exterior, making it more aggressive. So, for example, the shape of the bumper, hood, foglights and headlights was transformed, now divided into 2 sectors. At the same time, the portfolio of options has also diversified somewhat, replenished with another airbag, traction control system and other nice little things. The designers also managed to expand the space for rear passengers, so that 3 adults can feel quite comfortable.

Magentis 2nd generation

The second generation "Kia Magentis" was presented in 2005 at the International Automobile Exhibition in Frankfurt. In Russia, car sales started in 2007. New sedan significantly increased in size, becoming longer and wider (4740 mm x 1800 mm). Of course, such an innovation made it possible to increase the interior space, thanks to which the rear sofa became much more spacious, and the trunk volume increased by 15 liters. Similar to 1st generation Kia car Magentis II was created on the same platform as the new Hyndai Sonata.

Magentis II: design and interior

The design of the updated version turned out to be quite modern, moderately strict and even somewhat sporty. Headlights radically influenced appearance cars in front, and the new radiator grille finally changed the exterior of our heroine for the better. Pleased with the eye and oblong body, decorated with stylish chrome inserts. In general, everything turned out concisely, but with taste.

The interior is made in the style of High-tech, as much as possible in line with all fashion trends. The finish of the car, which uses high-quality and expensive materials, looks impressive. In the cabin, a driver of any build will be able to comfortably settle down, because both the steering wheel and the seats have a fairly extensive adjustment zone. The controls are also located very conveniently, and therefore you don’t have to worry about the ergonomics of the car - it is magnificent. The portfolio of options surprises with its diversity: climate and cruise control, on-board computer, classy full set of security, front and rear power windows, and much more. In general, a comfortable trip is provided to you.

"Kia Magentis": specifications

As for the power characteristics of the car, thanks to the use of new materials, they have become more modernized. This fact made it possible to reduce the noise and vibration of the motor, as well as to reduce exhaust emissions. The car itself is offered in five versions: 4 petrol and 1 diesel.

The younger 2-liter is ready to squeeze out 136 "horses", and overcomes the threshold of 100 km / h in 10 seconds. Max speed is 208 km / h, which is quite a worthy result for a D-class car. It is worth noting that the 2nd generation Kia Magentis does not have such a huge “appetite”, given its power. So, on the highway, the consumption is 6.5-7 liters per 100 km, and in the city the figure rises to 12-13 liters for the same period.

The buyer can choose a car with a 4-speed "automatic" or with a 5-speed manual transmission. Of course, the first one will cost you a little more. The second engine has the same volume, but boasts more power, which reaches 145 hp. from. The rest of the characteristics are identical. The older V-shaped "six" develops 168 hp. from. at 2.5 liters. Of course, the increased power of the engine could not but affect fuel consumption. The figures increased to 7.5-8 liters on the highway and 14-15 liters in the city. As in previous versions, there is a choice between "automatic" and "mechanics". The latest petrol version has a 2.7-liter engine, "squeezing out" 189 hp. from. Finally, the line is completed by a 2-liter 140-horsepower engine, which is aggregated with a 6-speed "mechanics" or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Manageability Magentis II

Engineers have significantly improved the car's handling, tightening its maneuverability and stability both on excellent and bad roads, which is especially important for our country. Suspension at "Madzhentis" is completely independent. She “swallows” potholes quite tolerably, and therefore there should not be any discomfort. The car responds quite sharply to steering movements. On turns it behaves well and without critical rolls. Already in the basic version are assumed ABS systems and EBD, which is definitely a huge advantage of the car.

Restyled version of Magentis II

In 2009, a restyled version of the Kia Magentis was released, the photo of which you can see above. The most significant changes took place in appearance a car that has changed a lot. Slanted headlights, large radiator screen and a modified bumper made the car more "aggressive". The interior has essentially remained the same. As for the engine range, it was limited to 3 options: 2 petrol and 1 diesel.

Finally, let's say that in 2011 a new generation of Kia Magentis was released, reviews of which are only positive. It is not surprising, because the design was designed by the world famous Peter Schreyer. The new Magentis is now known in Russia as Kia Optima. The car was first presented in 2010 at the New York Auto Show, and already in 2011 its sales started.

25.11.2017

Kia Magentis is a mid-range sedan of the South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia Motors. Since its appearance on the domestic market, most motorists have perceived Kia Magentis as company car for an average official, as well as a more affordable alternative to the Toyota Camry and the like. The first thing that attracts this car is a good ratio of size and cost. Few manufacturers can offer "the same amount of business class" for reasonable money. But how things are with the reliability of this model after many years of operation, and whether it is worth considering Kia Magentis 2 for a second-hand purchase, now let's try to find out.

A bit of history:

Kia Magentis was presented to the public at the end of 2000 at the auto show in Paris, and the following year, mass production of the model started. Magentis was the first joint development of the two largest Korean corporations Hyundai and Kia. The novelty received a promising name, consisting of two English words"majestic" and "genteel", which in translation into Russian sound like "majestic" and "noble". In many markets (China, USA, etc.) this model better known as . Magentis shares a common platform with the Hyundai Sonata fourth generation and was only offered as a sedan. The car was restyled twice in 2002 and 2004, during which the main focus was on changing the interior and exterior, as well as improving equipment.

The debut of Kia Magentis 2 took place in 2005 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. The best specialists from the innovation centers of Europe, Korea and the USA took part in the development of this generation. Like its predecessor, the new product was still called Optima in the US market, and the car was known as the "Kia Lotze" in the local Korean market. The second generation of Kia Magentis appeared on Russian market in 2007. The car survived the first major modernization in 2008, the updated car was presented at the auto show in New York. During the restyling, the front and rear of the car, interior design have changed significantly, and engine power has also been increased. The design development was led by the famous German specialist Peter Schreyer, who later became the chief designer of Kia, and a little later - one of the three presidents of the company. The production of the model lasted until 2011, after which a new model, which received the global name Optima, took its place on the market. This car was presented in 2010 at the New York Auto Show.

Weaknesses of Kia Magentis 2 with mileage

Traditionally for Korean cars, the paintwork is soft and poorly resistant to mechanical damage - scratches and chips appear even from slight contact of the car body with branches. Corrosion resistance of body iron is at a fairly high level, but a couple weaknesses here, nevertheless, is. The rear drain requires special attention - over time, “bugs” appear on it. In the early stages, to remove the "saffron milk caps" it is enough to wipe trouble spot with a special solution or gasoline, if you run it, you will have to repaint it. Also, a rusty coating on the paint surface can be seen on the doors ( rust crawls out from under the moldings and door handles). If you follow the body and eliminate the “bugs” in a timely manner, there will be no serious problems with the body (I have not seen any complaints that the metal has rotted to holes). The chrome on the radiator grill does not indulge in its durability either - it begins to peel off after 3-5 years of car operation. The chrome trim on the door windows may also begin to peel off.

Over time, when driving on a rough road, an unpleasant creak from the lining appears windshield. Temporarily get rid of the annoying squeak helps treatment with silicone grease and car wash. To permanently fix the problem, the pad must be put on double-sided tape or sealant. Castles have also received a lot of criticism. rear doors, at the most inopportune moment can stop opening. The front optics, on restyled copies of the Kia Magentis 2, are prone to fogging in wet weather and temperature changes. The protective plastic of the front optics is covered with a fine "mesh" over time. back number rattles when closing the trunk lid, gluing the frame with vibroplast and splenitis helps to solve the problem. In cars equipped with heated wipers, in the cold season, the windshield often cracks due to temperature changes. The rubber bands of the original wipers become very hard in frost, therefore, when replacing, it is better to give preference to an analogue.

Power units

Kia Magentis 2 was completed gasoline engines equipped with a CVVT system - 2.0 (144, 150 hp), 2.4 (162, 175 hp), 2.7 (188, 193 hp) and diesel CRDi - 2.0 (140 and 150 hp) . In most CIS countries, cars equipped only with 2.0 and 2.7 gasoline engines were officially sold. Petrol 2.4 and diesel engines, as a rule, were offered for the European market. All power units are sharpened to Euro 4 standards and are sensitive to the quality of fuels and lubricants. If, for example, gasoline engines are fed with “bad” gasoline, the error “ check engine", and the resource of catalysts will significantly decrease (there are 3 of them in the 2.7 engine). At diesel engines exhaust system begins to “choke” strongly, early replacement of the particulate filter may also be required. The Koreans, knowing what quality of fuel our gas stations offer, have released a new firmware for the engine control unit, which reconfigures the engine to Euro 3 standards. This problem Valid for vehicles manufactured after 2008.

The CVVT system, which was equipped with all gasoline engines, is demanding on the quality of the oil. With untimely maintenance of the power unit (oil change every 8-10 thousand km), the process of coking of the valve of this system is accelerated. The presence of problems with the valve will be indicated by increased noise (knock) of the motor on idling. If you can notice the problem at an early stage, flushing will be enough to eliminate it; in advanced cases, you have to change the valve. The disadvantages of gasoline engines include leaks in the gasket of the oil pan and front cover. In addition, for overly active drivers, closer to 150,000 km, the front crankshaft oil seal may leak. If oil leaks are not eliminated in a timely manner, this can lead to pulley failure. attachments with rubber damper. Due to the fact that the 2.0 motor does not have hydraulic lifters, many servicemen recommend adjusting valve clearances every 80-100 thousand kilometers. crankshaft sensors camshafts, as well as oxygen ones (there are two of them), can start to mope on a run of 100-120 thousand km

At idle, the engines can “diesel” until a certain warm-up, official dealer does not recognize this as a malfunction, calling this behavior of the engine its feature. power unit brand G4KD 4B11 emits a “chirring” during operation, thereby making the owners nervous, but there is no reason to worry, since this is a feature of the nozzles. If vibrations appear at speeds from 1000 to 1300, most likely it's time to change the candles. The service life of catalysts is 120-150 thousand km, if it is not replaced in a timely manner, when it is destroyed, its particles will fall into the cylinder, because of this, scoring will form there. About the disadvantages diesel engines there are no specific statistics, the only thing that can be said with certainty is that in our realities, after 100,000 km of run, they will have problems with fuel equipment, particulate filter (when removed, the ECU firmware needs to be replaced) and the EGR valve. Eliminating any of these problems will result in a tidy sum.

Transmission

One of two types of gearboxes was installed on Kia Magentis 2 - a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed Tiptronic automatic, which, after restyling, was replaced by a 5-speed automatic transmission. Operating experience has shown that all gearboxes are reliable and with timely maintenance ( oil change in manual transmission every 60,000 km, in automatic transmission every 90,000 km) do not cause unnecessary trouble. The clutch in mechanics can last up to 150,000 km. In diesel versions, once every 100-120 thousand kilometers, a dual-mass flywheel needs to be replaced. Symptoms - a characteristic knock appears during clutch engagement. Shifting manual transmission gears on some instances is accompanied by a noisy clatter - the problem is not cured. The speed of the automatic transmission as a whole is not high. When shifting gears, slight jerks are felt, but there are no serious complaints about the operation of the transmission. The key to longevity automatic boxes transmission is a power ride (especially "in the cold" winter) and timely maintenance.

Disadvantages of the Kia Magentis 2 suspension

Kia Magentis, like most business sedans, has a knocked down chassis and has a good energy intensity. A two-lever MacPherson-type design is used in front, a “multi-link” in the back, stabilizers are installed on both axles roll stability. The suspension is strong, but it is characterized by increased noise, most often the cause of knocks in the suspension is the anthers of the shock absorbers - in winter they freeze and slip out of the mounts. Also, while driving on small bumps and under heavy load, shock absorbers can tap, after a slight warm-up, the knock disappears. In 2010, the part was upgraded and the problem became less common. There is a more serious drawback - over time, the breakup bolts of the rear suspension arms turn sour, which is why it is no longer possible to set the wheel angles. To avoid problems, the bolts must be periodically lubricated.

But the resource of the original suspension elements cannot but rejoice. Stabilizer struts nursed 40-50 thousand km, bushings - up to 80,000 km. Silent blocks of front suspension arms serve 100-150 thousand km, wheel bearings and shock absorbers run about the same. Ball bearings nurse up to 200,000 km. IN rear suspension the first to give up are the “ball” upper wishbones, this happens on a run of 100-130 thousand km. The remaining elements go 150-200 thousand km. steering rack equipped with a hydraulic booster, in most cases problems with it begin after 100,000 km of run - the bushings break (the rail is repairable). Steering tips on average go 100-120 thousand km, thrust - up to 150,000 km. Brakes are reliable, but require periodic maintenance– It is recommended to lubricate the caliper guides. If you do not use the handbrake for a long time, the cable becomes rusty and sour, because of this it has to be changed.

Salon and electrical equipment

The quality of finishing materials Salon Kia Magentis 2 is at a fairly high level - high-quality plastic is used (does not creak), the fabric trim of the seats is non-marking and retains its presentation for a long time. But the sound insulation was frankly disappointing, especially the arches and the bottom - the noise of the wheels is heard, especially when driving on paving stones and in the rain. The problem is solved only by installing additional sound insulation. Also, the disadvantages include insufficiently high-quality leather on the steering wheel braid and gear knob - it is quickly overwritten. As for electrical equipment, the dampers of the ventilation system require special attention here - they often fail. The air conditioner has the feature of automatically turning on when the windshield heating mode is selected. There may be other problems with the interior electrics, so it is better to check the performance of all equipment before buying.

Outcome:

Despite its middle age, the owners have no serious complaints about the reliability of the Kia Magentis 2, and those minor problems that may arise during operation will not require the owner to make significant investments to eliminate it. It is up to you to decide whether to buy such a car or not, for my part I can only add that this model definitely deserves attention.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your review that will help readers of our site when choosing a car.

Sincerely, editorial Autoavenue

Kia Magentis is a mid-size D class sedan. It is a very close relative of the fourth generation Hyundai Sonata. The cars differ only in the details of the exterior design and equipment. Appearance for those times turned out to be reasonable and attractive, but today the rear optics look old-fashioned.

In the Korean and American markets, the car was called Optima. Since 2001, a sedan for Russia has been assembled in Kaliningrad at the Avtotor enterprise. In 2003, the model went through a restyling. The most characteristic changes are front optics with separate headlights, new front bumper and radiator grill.

Magentis offered a number standard equipment along with optional. All cars were equipped with air conditioning, electrically controlled mirrors, windows and locks. Basic fabric seats for an extra charge could become leather. Richer configurations boast cruise control, ABS with distribution braking force, TSC traction control system, power driver's seat, climate control, wooden inserts and even a sunroof.

In 2001, the "American" Optima earned only one star in crash tests according to the IIHS version.

Engines

Kia Magentis Kaliningrad assembly offered with 2.0 l / 136 hp gasoline engines. and 2.5 l / 168 hp These units are the most common secondary market(more than 90%).

The remaining engine options in the ads are hardly more than a couple of dozen. And these are Korean basic versions with a four-cylinder 1.8 liter (Betta / G4GB / 131 hp series and Sirius II / G4JN / 125 and 134 hp series). In the American market, the palette began with a 2.4-liter inline-four (138-149 hp). Six-cylinder 2.7 l / 170 hp appeared in the American Optima after restyling.

The timing of the 2.0L (Sirius II/G4JP) and 2.4L (Sirius II/G4JS) inline-fours is driven by a toothed belt. It should be changed every 40-50 thousand km. Cheap analogues are often torn after 20-30 thousand km. As a result, pistons and valves are damaged. In case of trouble, you should prepare for repairs in the amount of about 50,000 rubles. Approximately the same amount will be asked for a contract motor.

Keep in mind that replacing the timing belt on Sirius series engines requires some experience. The presence of a balance shaft complicates the exact exhibition of labels. If the marks do not match, vibration appears, and the motor loses traction.

V-shaped sixes - 2.5-liter (Delta / G6BV) and 2.7-liter (Delta / G6BA) - use a combined timing drive: belt plus chain. The timing belt drives the intake camshafts, which are connected to the exhaust shafts by a chain. The service life of the chain is more than 250-300 thousand km. Timing belt troubles are much less common here.

cases overhaul engine are observed after 200-300 thousand km. Reasons for opening - an increase in oil consumption and a loss of compression in one of the cylinders. For repairs, you will need about 50,000 rubles. Fortunately, capital is not a general phenomenon.

After 150-200 thousand km, they may require replacement of the engine mount and gearbox (1-2 thousand rubles per pillow), as well as the position sensor throttle valve and ignition coils (from 1,500 rubles). Soon the radiator may leak (from 3,000 rubles).

Interruptions in the operation of a 2-liter unit are often caused by a failed crankshaft position sensor (2,500 rubles). To replace it, you will have to remove the timing drive. From time to time, the ITS J5T ignition sensor also fails. At the same time, the tachometer stops working. The cost of an analogue is from 1,500 rubles. However, some manage to revive the sensor with a soldering iron.

After 150-250 thousand km, catalysts fail. Over time, the corrugation of the exhaust pipe burns out.

Hydraulic valve clearance compensators begin to knock after 200-250 thousand km: first on a cold one, and then after warming up.

In the domestic market South Korea cars were also sold with engines designed to run on gas. In the secondary market there are such instances. It should be borne in mind that with age, the number of problems with gas equipment inevitably increases.

Transmission

The engines were combined with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. Automatic transmission - Japanese F4A42 developed by Mitsubishi. The box is strong and durable. The first complaints about work are found after 200-300 thousand km and more often in cars with powerful V6s. Failures can occur due to speed sensor failure, as well as oxidation or damage to contacts and wiring. It comes to serious repairs after 300,000 km, which will require about 50,000 rubles.

Nothing is known about mechanical problems. Unless you have to change the clutch (11,000 rubles along with work), and in cars with a 2.5-liter unit, there is also an expensive dual-mass flywheel. The cost of the original node is almost 50,000 rubles. Fortunately, you can pick up an analogue for 9-10 thousand rubles.

Chassis

The front axle uses a double wishbone system, while the rear axle uses a multi-link system with steering effect. The suspension is quite soft, the body rolls strongly in corners and sways on gentle waves. Steering response is slow and blurry.

Wheel bearings run more than 100-150 thousand km (1-2 thousand rubles). Shock absorbers, silent blocks and ball joints. After a while, the rear springs can sag.

The steering rack can knock or leak after 200-250 thousand km. Over 9,000 rubles will have to be paid for a new rail.

Other problems and malfunctions

Traces of corrosion on the body of an already middle-aged Magentis can often be found in the area of \u200b\u200bthe rear wheel arches and thresholds.

Crack in the top of the metal fuel tank is a widespread phenomenon. A faulty adsorber contributes to the defect. The cost of a new fuel tank is from 8,000 rubles, and an adsorber - from 3,000 rubles.

Sometimes the air conditioning compressor clutch fails (from 2,000 rubles) or the compressor itself (from 9,000 rubles for an analogue). And after 200-250 thousand km, the generator may also require attention (from 5,000 rubles).

Violations in the operation of the air conditioning system occur as a result of unscrewing the screws securing the damper drive motor, wear of the motor itself (1,000 rubles) or disconnecting the pipe connecting the stove to the climate control unit.

Conclusion

There is no doubt: the first generation Kia Magentis is quite reliable car. Most problems and malfunctions are due to solid mileage and decent age. Fortunately, all malfunctions are easily fixed and do not require large expenses ... unless you take into account possible repair machine or engine (after a broken timing belt).

Dear time of day, dear readers.

The review will focus on the car KIA Magentis, 2005 onwards. two-year-old, at that time, in the maximum, at that time, configuration and top-end engine V 6 2.5 l 169hp, with a mileage at the time of purchase a little over 50 t.km.

It was not bought by chance, having in 2007 on hand the amount of 17,000 ye, one could consider buying a lot of new C-class cars, but I always wanted to ride something in a good configuration, a larger size and relatively powerful motor, since there was an opportunity.

After some hesitation, I settled on a well-established (adjusted for personal experience) KIA brands, wanted mazhentis, automatic, in complete set. So, on the skin they (mazhentis) for the most part came with a gray interior, I leisurely searched for a beige one. The interior of this color, subjectively, looked much prettier than gray. After a leisurely, with a month, search, the coveted copy was found.

Purchase history was as follows. A very wealthy man was selling the car for 16,500 ye, and he had already handed it over to the dealer for a commission. Arriving with him to the dealer, I went to see the car, and the owner remained in the car. By the way, the dealer had a car with a price tag of 17,500. Having crawled up and down the car, having swept it (as a passenger with the seller), I returned to the owner, and we shook hands. The next day he took her out of the salon and parted with 16500 ye, I became the owner of this pepilats.

So, for this relatively modest amount, I became the owner of a car, which included: ABS, anti-buks, 4 SRS, electric sunroof, beige leather interior, Power adjustment driver's seat, separate climate, automatic transmission and a lot of other “little things”. What I like about buying a used car with low mileage is that with proper care, you don’t need to invest money in a car. Those. the car also got 2 sets of casting (even a spare tire for casting) with an expensive imported winter tires, alarm with auto start, two sets of interior carpets, high-quality tinting.

After I said goodbye, since now former owner I sat in my new car and ... felt almost childish delight. It doesn't ride, it floats. External sounds do not annoy at all, after the mechanics, I didn’t even have to get used to the automatic transmission - as I have been driving it all my life. Cozy leather interior … Very decent full-time infiniti music with an amplifier (although MP3 does not play). Of course, I quickly got used to it, but the sensations were unforgettable.

What did you like:

It rides very smoothly, the American-style suspension swallows all the bumps, but you have to pay with rolls in corners. However, rolls are not critical, I'm not a racing driver, and for myself I consider this suspension setting to be optimal.

The motor is a beast. By modern standards, there are not so many horses (169), but the torque did its job and 8.8 seconds to 100 normally pressed into the back of the seat. Again, I'm not a fan high speeds. I just once for the sake of curiosity dispersed it to 180 km / h on a completely empty 4-lane highway, it more than willingly continued to accelerate further, but that was enough for me. At this speed, he kept a good exchange rate stability and soundproofing. We must pay tribute to the automatic transmission, 4-mortar. When I bought it, I thought that the 4-mortar was archaism, but then I changed my mind. At a speed of 140 km / h, the engine speed is about 3500. The motor does not strain because of the box absolutely. Cruising speed on 2.5 liters it was the same as now on a 1.6 engine “for 300 rubles”, i.e. exceeding the permissible limit by no more than 20 km / h. In general, I consider myself an adherent of the “three Ds” (DDD - Give Way to the Fool), and if some wild basin was attached to the stern and “flashed”, I gave way to him without a twinge of conscience.

I liked the set of equipment, a lot of everything, even superfluous things - for example, email. seat adjustment - used 2 times: 1st time when I bought it, 2nd time after the service.

Reliable. For about 12,000 thousand that I drove, I did nothing with it, except for changing the oil and current adjustments (camber, light adjustment, etc.).

Near world. It's the best one I've ever ridden.

Noise isolation. It is significantly higher than the average, which was noted even by friends - skeptics (meaning Korean auto industry in general), for example, in the 2004 Accord. it is much worse (the owner of the chord agrees with this =)).

Well, little things. For example, the headlight washer is brought to the dashboard with a separate button, you wash the headlights when you want it yourself, and not according to an incomprehensible algorithm with an overrun of the washer.

What did not like:

Climate control algorithm. Situation: summer, 30 in the shade, you get into the car, set 22 degrees. What does this epitome of Korean engineering genius do? It includes recirculation, maximum fan speed and the minimum temperature starts to really freeze, in the truest sense of the word, the driver.

In general, I did not like them and often interfered in his work. A plus for him, perhaps, can be called a control system for the air supplied to the passenger compartment, i.e. if the “smart” climate “understood” that the gas content was above the norm, then it automatically turned on recirculation, though often with a delay.

Leather. I won't buy myself any more. Well, maybe only if it is combined or perforated with ventilation (as on NEW Teane - I periodically go - class). In winter, it is cold to get into a car (despite the heating and autostart, I often noted), in the summer, in general, Achtung, despite the climate beast, sweat all the places in contact with this fashionable coating.

Black color. Clean, he certainly lovely sight. But you need to follow him more closely than any other. So I just washed the car, carefully polished it (I like to direct the marafet myself), drove it to the garage (200m), and the cars were already covered in dust, which is very noticeable ... In such cases, I had to restrain obscene expressions rushing out.

Automatic antenna. A very tricky device. You have to constantly wipe and clean, otherwise not all knees leave / are removed. A very controversial engineering decision.

But, we must pay tribute, catches well.

Fuel consumption. In the city 15 l \ 100 km, outside the city it is easier - it fit into 8-8.5 liters.

Well, little things. Absence trip computer(there was only a sensor outdoor temperature), the dubious image of the brand (but for me it was even a plus - I didn’t even think of insuring it under CASCO) ...

What else to add ... The body was absolutely without a hint of corrosion, I liked the quality of the paintwork, the engine did not consume oil.

I sold the car to the first buyer, it was clear that he was also looking for a specific instance. Left for 17500 ye, after 8 months of ownership, in excellent condition.

The reason for the sale is the purchase of an apartment, but that's a completely different story ...

If there are any questions, I will be happy to answer them.
