Choice of Mazda 626 GE with two-litre petrol engine and mechanical box already soon 4 years ago was completely and unambiguously the choice of the mind, and not the heart. This is my first car. The first six months were filled with leisurely driving around the city and outside the city, the gradual replacement of everything that needs to be replaced. They were very soft and tired. But in the city it didn’t get much, on ideal asphalt the car went just fine. But outside the city, especially at speeds of about a hundred or more, I had to look out for bumps and waves. Getting on a bump almost always happened a breakdown and buildup. In the end, I decided that safety is more important and changed the struts and springs at once. All top K-Flex and Kayaba. I can't be happy.

The Mazda 626 was made in several forms (the model first appeared on the market in 1982). But we are now interested in a very popular secondary market generation of this car, produced from 1992 to 1997. Most often, Mazda GE has a hatchback body - outwardly, such cars look more interesting than traditional sedans in Russia. Although we will still be correct - design is a purely personal matter and someone, for sure, is a fan of 4-door cars. You can sometimes hear that the characteristic disease of hatchbacks with their large and severe back door is the wear of the gas struts, due to which the door can somehow hit the owner of the car hard on the head (the original shock absorber costs $ 30-40 apiece). However, in reality, it turns out that only a small part of car owners face this problem. And besides, the cost of spare parts in this case is not so high as to write down the Mazda 626 as a fat minus in terms of reliability.

In defense of the Mazda 626, we can say that the build quality of the cabin deserves all praise. Parts made of not the most expensive plastic fit perfectly to each other and rarely creak even on older cars (except when the interior has been dismantled several times). It is also nice that the air conditioner, electric drives and other available “bells and whistles” work for a long time and break down very rarely.

Gasoline engines installed on the Mazda 626 can have both 4 and 6 cylinders. The first, of course, are more common. The most modest gasoline engines are 1.8-liter units, of which there were two pieces (sometimes they say that they have a volume of 1.9 liters.). One of these engines produced 90 hp, and the second already 105 hp. Next comes a 2.0-liter engine with 115 hp. When buying a Mazda 626 2.0, you should not expect some breathtaking dynamics. This motor is not intended for a sharp ride. But on the other hand, the price of such machines is more modest than the more “fancy” specimens, and fuel consumption is less. In addition, even 90 "horses" is enough for daily operation in the city, especially since 4-cylinder engines are distinguished by a decent supply of torque at the “bottoms”. There are in the Mazda 626 GE range and several V6 engines with a volume of 1.8 liters and 2.0 liters at once. and 2.5 l. The first two are practically never found in our secondary market - cars with small V6 displacements were sold only in Japan. As for the 2.5-liter unit with 163 hp, it can be seen under the hood of the Mazda 626 quite often. In addition to a decent amount of “horses”, this 2.5-liter “six” is distinguished by high torque even at the very bottom and very smooth operation.

Yes, and there are no problems with the reliability of the V6 - the motor proper care very reliable and able to work without problems for more than 300-400 thousand km. But in reality, it turns out that the power unit requires one or another repair more often. The fact is that Mazda engines, like no other, are demanding on the quality of the oil. It should be only the most expensive, and it’s better not to experiment, filling in some cheap products for the sake of saving several hundred rubles (moreover, domestic Mazda repairmen recommend changing the lubricant not after 10 thousand km, but a little earlier). And no additives! Otherwise, the hydraulic lifters will start tapping pretty quickly. Only an autopsy will show how many hydraulic lifters need to be changed, but it is often necessary to install the entire kit (each part costs $15-25). Considering that there are 16 hydraulic lifters in a 4-cylinder engine, it turns out that you need to spend $240-400 plus another $40-100 for work (for a 6-cylinder engine, a set of hydraulic lifters will cost $384-600, respectively). So, before buying a car, it is very desirable to “listen” to the engine when it has not yet warmed up - in this case, the clatter of worn compensators is immediately audible.

Mazda 626 engines have no more unpleasant features. Naturally, you need to remember that every 60-100 thousand km. it is necessary to change the timing belt with rollers (about $ 150 with work). Moreover, when performing this operation, it is better to ask the master to immediately install a new camshaft oil seal (it costs a “penny”). You also need to remember that in cars with a V6 engine, the engine mount wears out more often due to the greater weight. power unit. But there is nothing wrong with that - for $ 50 you can find a good non-original part. It is not criminal that the oil pressure sensor often breaks on some cars. Usually, to solve this problem, it is enough to buy a reliable original spare part ($12).

When operating a Mazda 626 (especially with a V6 engine, although this applies to 4-cylinder engines to the same extent), you need to monitor the temperature of the coolant. They say that it is enough to overheat the engine just once (in the summer in a traffic jam this can be easily overlooked, and besides, the contacts of the fan sensor are periodically oxidized on the Mazda 626), as the “head” begins to lead. Repair with purchase original parts it can be simply ruinous for the budget, although the purchase of used parts will not please you either (which is why you need to monitor the integrity of the pipes and be sure to change the coolant every two years). But what should not be taken is the Mazda 626 with diesel unit. It is only one with a volume of 2.0 liters. and a power of 75 hp. Moreover, experts recommend abandoning a diesel engine not because of its low power, but because of the complexity of the design, capriciousness and extremely expensive repairs. The fact is that this engine is not equipped with a traditional turbocharger, but with the so-called Comprex wave pressure exchanger. In short, the principle of its operation is that the exhaust gases, by means of a rotating rotor, condense the charge of air that enters the cylinders. That is, it is not the turbine that pumps air into the engine, but these same exhaust gases. The idea is very interesting, but in reality it turned out that with a run of 150-200 thousand km. the exchanger can break down, become clogged, etc. Only Mazda branded centers undertake its repair. And besides, the restored units do not work for too long. And the price of the new exchanger is impressive - more than $ 1.5 thousand. So in the end, even Mazda company in the late 90s, she decided to stop using the Comprex system.

The transmission on the Mazda 626 is usually a 5-speed manual. It is very reliable - in most cases, it is enough just to change the oil after 60-70 thousand km. By the way, Mazda 626 was sold in the Japanese market with an all-wheel drive system, as well as center and rear differentials! As a result, it turns out that the stabilizer struts, which serve 30-40 thousand km, turn out to be the most frequently changed part in the chassis. Various engines were installed under the hood of the Mazda 626 GE, and not only 4-cylinder 1.8-liter ones. and 2.0 liters, but also 6-cylinder.
