Ground clearance Skoda Yeti, real ground clearance Skoda Yeti. Specifications Skoda Yeti Options and cost

The car was the first crossover of the Czech brand, which was based on the promising Volkswagen A5 platform. Thus, the characteristics of the Skoda Yeti are quite reminiscent of the popular crossover Tiguan. At the moment, the car is one of the most popular subcompact crossovers and now we will explain why.

The dimensions of the Skoda Yeti are as follows:

  • length - 422.3 cm;
  • width - 179.3 cm;
  • height -169.1 cm;
  • wheelbase - 257.8 cm.

Many are also interested in the clearance of the Skoda Yeti - a technical characteristic that corresponds to the ground clearance of the car. In the case of this model, the indicator reaches 18 centimeters. Another important indicator overall dimensions Skoda Yeti is the volume of the tank. It is 60 liters.

Weight Skoda Yeti

With its body size, the Skoda Yeti does not weigh that much. Mass indicators are:

  • curb weight - 1375 kilograms;
  • total weight - 1920 kilograms.

Trunk volume Skoda Yeti

Is different vehicle and its fairly roomy trunk. Trunk volume in liters Skoda Yeti can range from 405 to 1760 liters. As a result, there is enough space for all the necessary cargo.

Features of the power unit

But those are only the large volume of the trunk of the Skoda Yeti that made the car so popular. The vehicle also has other advantages. First of all, here it is worth talking about the car engine. This car can be equipped with the following power units:

  • 1.2 liters with a capacity of 105 Horse power. You can accelerate the car to hundreds in 11.8 seconds. The dynamics are not the best, so the model is ideal only for a leisurely ride. The main disadvantage here is a long warm-up, so it can be cold in the cabin in winter. This is offset by low fuel consumption: 7.6 liters in the city and 6 liters on the highway. Comes with a six-speed manual transmission or with a proprietary DSG robot;
  • 1.4 liters, power - 122 horses. The best choice, if you need to drive around the city and sometimes go to the track. This engine combines quite good dynamics (acceleration to 100 km / h takes 10.5 seconds), as well as low fuel consumption (8.9 liters in the city and 6 liters on the highway). The transmission can be either manual or automatic. But, although the engine size has grown compared to the previous version, the interior warms up rather slowly;
  • 1.8 liters, 152 horsepower. Acceleration to hundreds requires only 8.7 seconds. The power unit is quite solid, while it consumes not so much fuel for such powerful engine. The motor requires 10.1 liters in the city and 6.9 liters on the highway. The set of transmissions is similar to previous versions, only here is four-wheel drive;
  • 2.0 l, 140 horsepower, diesel. Moved to Skoda Yeti from Tiguan. But, since the Czech car is smaller than its German brother, the car goes a little faster. A vehicle can take a hundred in 10.2 seconds. The efficiency of the car is also impressive - only 7.6 liters in the city and 5.8 on the highway. It is equipped with all-wheel drive, while there is no choice of transmission - only an automatic transmission is available.

In fact, all these power units are a classic example of downsizing, that is, reducing the size of an engine while maintaining functionality and performance. At the same time, if many competitors install advanced motor models only on the most expensive modifications, then the Czech auto turbines are on all motors to improve performance.

Skoda Yeti drive features

If we talk about those characteristics of the Skoda Yeti, one cannot fail to mention the drive. The top models have 4-wheel drive. The principle of operation of the drive completely migrated from the Tiguan. The system is based on the Haldex coupling fourth generation. The driver cannot choose the drive wheels, everything is decided by electronics. In this case, the rear final drive is constantly running, that is, a small torque (five percent) is always transmitted to the rear axle.

The drive control unit is connected to the car's CAN bus, where all key indicators from other sensors fall. As a result, the four-wheel drive is always ready to engage (eg when braking, skidding or accelerating).

During intensive acceleration, as soon as the gas is squeezed out, the control unit immediately blocks the clutch, without waiting for slipping. An additional advantage of the system is the absence of the need to unlock when the ESP is running. As evidence of the reliability of the drive, the ability to “digest” a torque indicator of 2400 Nm speaks.

A few words about the salon

But the technical characteristics of the Skoda Yeti car are not the only thing worth mentioning. In addition, this five-seater crossover is also distinguished by its external presentability. If we talk about the cabin, it should immediately be said that passengers will feel as comfortable as possible in it. Thanks to a fairly high landing, the feeling of security does not leave people in the cabin, even on rather difficult sections of the road. In addition, a fairly good overview opens up before passengers and drivers.

Each of the rear seats can be transformed, as a result of which the amount of loading space is significantly increased. The overall interior design is quite stylish and elegant, it fully corresponds to the high class of the vehicle.

Vehicle safety

Technical Skoda specifications Yeti say that driving in such a car is safe for both the driver and passengers. This can be achieved by having:

  • bi-xenon headlights equipped with rotary modules;
  • electronic stabilization system, which greatly reduces the likelihood of traffic accidents;
  • brake light flashing functions. It is activated during emergency braking, it prevents blows from behind;
  • nine airbags;
  • special mounting motors and pedals.

exterior features

Externally, the vehicle looks very attractive. The first SUVs trademark Skoda began to produce in the 30s of the last century, during the production of army vehicles. Of course, the Skoda Yeti line does not hint at the military past of the company, but the external features of crossovers are inherent in it. This is especially evident in all-wheel drive versions of cars. The color scheme can vary greatly. The body can be black, red, burgundy, blue, blue, silver, white and so on.

Basic equipment

The following vehicle configurations entered the domestic market:

  • active. All gearbox and engine options are possible, except for diesel. Optional set of elements, including ABS, ESP, air conditioning system, heated seats, immobilizer, etc.;
  • Ambition. All engine variants are possible. The on-board computer, the presence of a rain sensor and cruise control, an advanced audio system distinguishes it from the previous version;
  • elegance. No engines with a volume of 1.2 and 1.4 liters with manual transmission. Built-in climate control, color screen audio system, leather-trimmed steering wheel;
  • sochi. Special equipment made for domestic market. No models 1.8 manual transmission and with diesel engine. Availability of tire pressure indicator option, multifunctional steering wheel, cooled glove compartment, etc.

The cost of a car varies in ranges from 700 thousand rubles. up to 1.2 million rubles And then a more detailed video test drive of the Skoda Yeti:

Skoda Yeti 1 generation (2009-2013).

In 2009, the Russian car market was replenished with a new model from the Czech brand - Skoda Yeti. The latest SUV, easily overcoming snow drifts, autumn slush and spring impassability, has become popular with our motorists.

The small external dimensions of the Skoda Yeti ensured high maneuverability and easy handling. Inside the car 5 seats and enough space for comfortable accommodation of passengers. It is designed in such a way that the passengers get the impression of special security. High landing at the Yeti makes it possible to increase the review.

Vehicle length is 4223 mm, width - 1793 mm, height - 1691 mm.

Wheelbase occupies approximately 2578 mm, and the track of the front and rear wheels- respectively 1541 and 1537 mm.

Clearance Skoda Yeti is 180 mm. The ground clearance of the Skoda Yeti is large enough to provide excellent cross-country ability on the roads.

Design deserves special attention. luggage compartment a car that has a volume of 402 to 1750 liters and makes it possible to place a large amount of luggage. The SUV has 5 doors.

Skoda Yeti 1st generation (2009-2013) - rear view.

Yeti completed 2 gasoline engines.

The 1st generation Skoda Yeti car was equipped with two options for gasoline engines: 1.2 TSI -105 hp. from. and 1.8 TSI -152 liters. from. Both are four-cylinder, turbocharged. Fuel was distributed to the cylinders by means of two camshafts. The first engine option is for the front-wheel drive Skoda Yeti, while the Skoda Yeti's all-wheel drive provides the second option. Both engines were distinguished by sufficiently low fuel consumption and complied with stringent European environmental standards for limiting CO2 emissions Euro V. These engines were mounted transversely in front of the car. The first version of the engine makes it possible to accelerate the car to 175 km / h, the second - up to 196 km / h.

Fuel consumption

IN Skoda car Yeti first generation fuel consumption ranges from 5 to 8 liters per 100 km. In the city, the car consumes about 7-10 liters, and outside the city - from 5 to 7 liters. Max Volume fuel tank is 60 liters.

The all-wheel drive Škoda Yeti is equipped with the fourth-generation Haldex intelligent clutch. Thanks to this, the torque is evenly distributed between the axles. This system improves the traction properties of the car and significantly reduces fuel consumption. Skoda Yeti has excellent grip on any road surface thanks to a modified rear axle from multi-link suspension and extended track. In addition, this system provides greater stability in difficult off-road driving conditions. The bottom of the car has additional protection that protects it from damage while driving off-road.

checkpoint

Skoda Yeti can be equipped with both manual and automatic gearboxes. In the first case, this is a six-speed gearbox, which is characterized by smooth and clear shifting. Speaking about the automatic box, it is worth noting that some Skoda Yeti models are equipped with seven-speed gearboxes with the possibility of automatic or manual gear selection.

OFF ROAD mode

The car is also equipped with an off-road OFF ROAD mode, which allows you to change the settings electronic systems control for immediate traffic conditions on the ground.

In simple terms, with a large slope, both in reverse and forward, the car can move out at the optimum speed without your help. To do this, just press the Off Road button on the panel and slightly steer. At the same time, you need to remove your feet from the pedals, and transfer the gear to neutral, the automation will do everything itself. However, you have the opportunity to additionally slow down or accelerate if you wish. Moreover, if you have a manual transmission, during acceleration you do not need to depress the clutch pedal or set the gear.

Restyling Skoda Yeti (2013-present)

Skoda Yeti after restyling (2013-present)

Both the interior and exterior design and the car engines have undergone changes.

Exterior Skoda Yeti

The front of the car has acquired branded features of the updated line of Skoda models. The headlights have acquired sharp edges and an aggressive “look”.

The grille is sportier with the badge relocated to a recess in the middle.

Foglights changed their round design to a rectangular one, and settled lower.

If you look closely at the back of the SUV, you can see the diagonal stripes on the fifth door, in the middle of which is the number. This is also a new common feature of all Skoda models.

The rest of the exterior design remained the same.

The interior of the restyled version of the Skoda Yeti

In the cabin of the crossover, there were small, but still “metamorphoses”.

So wheel from four-spoke with a bucket became three-spoke.

The gear lever has also changed - from a square "airplane" it has become ordinary - oval.

Innovations in crossover functionality

In the post-styled model, previously inaccessible features appeared, such as:

  • parking assistant
  • Rear View Camera
  • instead of the keyhole for the ignition key, the engine start button appeared
  • keyless access to the salon

Changes in engines and gearboxes

After the restyling of the Skoda Yeti, the engine range has changed: the 1.2-liter engine left, and it was replaced by two new ones (1.4 liters - 125 hp and 1.6 liters - 110 hp).

As far as gearboxes are concerned, gasoline engines are still equipped with both mechanics and a DSG robot.

It is impossible to call the entry of Skoda Yeti to the Russian market successful. The car appeared back in 2009, then its appearance went almost unnoticed: someone laughed at the design, and someone did not perceive the budget crossover at a high price. But in 2012, Bigfoot's business improved due to two reasons - a more serious design and a cheaper version with a 1.2 TSI engine and a robotic gearbox.

We invite all motorists to get acquainted with this model and see what technical characteristics the car received. We will also test the car in action to find out if the characteristics correspond to the description. Will not go unnoticed updated design. Go!

General acquaintance

Yeti - front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive crossover Czech company Skoda. The car was built on the basis of the fifth generation VW Golf hatchback. It has been on the Russian market since 2009. The latest version of the car is delivered to Russia in three trim levels (Active - budget version, Ambition - medium, Elegance - top), for which 4 engines are available:

  • The first 1.2 TSI engine with a power of 105 "horses" can be supplied to the budget or average package. It only comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. Its approximate fuel consumption per 100 kilometers is 6.4 liters;
  • The second unit was 1.2 TSI with 105 hp. and 7-speed DSG. This engine can be installed in any configuration. Its combined fuel consumption per 100 km is 6.4 liters;
  • The third 1.4 TSI engine comes with a 7-speed DSG and has a power of 122 horsepower, its fuel consumption per 100 km is 6.8 liters. Also available in all trim levels;
  • And the last 1.8 TSI with all-wheel drive, 6-speed DSG and 152 hp. available only in medium and top configurations. Its fuel consumption is 8 liters per 100 km.

Unfortunately, diesel does not reach Russia (engine with a volume of 2.0 liters and a power of 140 hp). The premium version of Elegance differs from other trim levels only in the choice of engines and content. Top versions that have received all-wheel drive can be equipped with a special off-road assist system. They also include a descent assistance system.

Since 2014, a new Yeti has appeared with a redesigned design and some innovations: the modification with the new name Outdoor does not differ much from the car that we described above, the changes only affected the design, new suspensions and additional engine protection appeared.

Drive

Having seen the technical characteristics of the car, you can also evaluate the main parameters in the Skoda Yeti. And also find out who will be interested in the small-circulation Yeti, and who should look at it, and who should not. The 1.2 TSI engine is found in the most different cars, which belong Volkswagen Group. The company does not hesitate to install the unit on both workhorses (for example, the Volkswagen Caddy) and B-class hatchbacks.

But in a crossover, he meets for the first time and therefore many drivers are interested in how he will cope with his task. After all, we know that turbocharged engines with a small circulation have begun to be mastered by manufacturers as part of the struggle to reduce toxicity and obtain efficiency. But in fact, the effect is the opposite: in order for the car to “drive”, the engine has to spin up. And the expense runs up no less if there was a unit of the usual volume in the car. What happened in the case of the Skoda Yeti?

It turned out as usual: on one side of the engine, a single-wheel drive car is enough to briskly ride around the city, effectively starting from a traffic light under the surprised looks of other drivers. 7 speed DSG box quickly mastered, and then, knowing how to manipulate the gas medal, you can rush at high speed. In general, the Skoda Yeti is a pretty quick car that has low power motor. The Czechs once again confirm that balance is the most important thing. In this example, we can observe how a car with weak engine produces high scores.

According to the passport, acceleration to 100 kilometers takes 12 seconds. But this is on a straight road and from a place. The sensations of response and pedaling are different from the passport data. But no miracle happened: fuel consumption with moderate driving on empty roads can easily keep the waste in the region of 8 liters per 100 kilometers. But if you stand in a traffic jam for a while, the flow rate rises to 10 liters. If you give all your best and ride only during rush hour, then on the on-board computer you can see the figure 12 l / 100 km. Therefore, you should not expect extra efficiency from the Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI. But the dynamics of this car at the highest level.

The steering also gives only pleasure: it is informative and very transparent, the Skoda Yeti steers at the level of some hatchback. Only in corners it rolls a little more than a hatchback. On the track, the car holds the road with dignity, without shaking and unnecessary swaying. What's really weird about the Yeti is the suspension: it can be soft on tight corners and stiff on bumps. It is not recommended to storm a speed bump at 40 km per hour - it will shake from the heart.

Dimensions and luggage compartment

Let's now take a look at the dimensions and clearance of the Yeti:

  • The clearance in this car is 180 millimeters. This clearance is considered average for crossovers;
  • Wheelbase dimensions - 2580 millimeters;
  • Length - 4220 mm;
  • Width - 1790 mm;
  • Height - 1690 mm;
  • The Skoda Yeti weighs 1345 kilograms.

Such dimensions indicate that the crossover turned out to be quite compact and light, which significantly increases maneuverability.

Skoda Yeti got a great trunk. Despite the compact body, the trunk of this car has a volume of 405 liters. And that's just the back row. It is impossible not to mention the possibilities of change back row. Due to the transformation, the trunk becomes significantly larger. All three chairs individually can fold their backs to a parallel state with respect to the floor. And if there is a desire, then they can generally be thrown back to front row seats, and thus creating a huge additional trunk.

If we take into account the vertical cover that the trunk is equipped with, then a lot of cargo can be placed in the car. By the way, in Europe, this car was recently recognized as one of the most successful models for a family that prefers outdoor activities. And this is not surprising: a voluminous trunk where you can put a lot of useful things for traveling, a relatively affordable waste of gasoline and top-level security equipment. Having familiarized ourselves with all the technical characteristics, we can take a general look at the interior and finish our Skoda review Yeti.

A few words about design

In addition to unusual optics, the Skoda Yeti can be distinguished by such unusual appearance details as a chopped line of the front part and the roof itself, this car even got an angular front glass. The rear of the body also cannot boast of a smooth transition of lines, the cover luggage compartment and completely perpendicular to the ground - it resembles the shape of a car "heel". Nevertheless, the car looks stylish, the latest reystaling brought only positive results for the Skoda Yeti.

The Outdoor modification claims to be an SUV. But what signs of an SUV did she get? There is an unpainted lower part of the body, which is not afraid of chips or scratches. Also, the black bumper adds a bit of "wildness" to the design. What went wrong were the protective front and rear bumpers, which perform the opposite task: any impact on something hard with such a "protection" will lead to a dent, while dark plastic would not care.

If speak about geometric patency in the Skoda Yeti, it is quite modest figures: 26 degrees at the rear and 19.4 at the front. If we compare it with the Nissan Qashqai, then our Bigfoot will be stronger than him in off-road capabilities. An important role is played by the clearance and dimensions of the car, which are suitable for conquering uncharted places.

As for the Yeti's interior, it is made at the highest level even for the most budget equipment - everything necessary elements at hand, the system control keys are intuitively located. Systems safety ABS, ESP, EBD are present, which is important. A driver under two meters tall can comfortably sit behind the wheel - there is a lot of free space for both passengers and the driver. His seat is fully adjustable, as is the steering wheel.

Results

We have studied everything important aspects this Skoda model. Among the main advantages of the Yeti, one can single out a huge trunk, affordable gas consumption, dimensions, excellent dynamics and spacious salon. The car does not have high power, it is a calm and safe helper for the family. High clearance allows you to go on easy off-road and not be afraid of curbs when parking. But this Yeti is a city car that loves to get out into nature.

Yeti is a front- or all-wheel drive SUV in the compact segment and, concurrently, the first car of this format in the history of the Czech automaker Skoda, which seamlessly combines the features of crossovers and minivans…

The main target audience of the five-door is family people with one or more children, with an income above average, who in the "iron horse" appreciate, first of all, unique design, reliability, safety, comfort and functionality ...

The Yeti is based on a front-wheel drive platform called the Volkswagen PQ35 - this aggregate base is well known from many Skoda and Volkswagen models (however, the Tiguan of the first generation is still the closest relative to the Czech crossover). The machine has a load-bearing body structure, in the power structure of which high-strength steel grades are widely used.

Security

It is worth noting that back in 2009, the car became a “round honors student” according to the results of Euro NCAP European crash tests, earning the maximum possible “5 stars”.

But it should be borne in mind that the test car was “European-style basic”, i.e. equipped with seven airbags and active front head restraints, while the maximum number of airbags sold in Russia is six (and in the “base” there are generally two).

The first crossover in the history of the Czech automaker "was born" in March 2009 - its international debut took place at the Geneva Motor Show ...

In September 2013, the restyled Skoda Yeti appeared to the world community in all its glory at the stands of the Frankfurt Motor Show.

As a result of the update, the SUV has seriously changed in appearance (but especially the full face, having received more discreet headlight units instead of the recognizable round optics), acquired minor metamorphoses in the cabin, “armed itself” with a new environmentally friendly engine and received new options.
Another important innovation is the appearance of an "all-terrain" modification called Outdoor.

Your serial "career" Czech SUV stopped at the beginning of 2018 - he was replaced by new SUV called Karoq.

Yeti in the Russian market

Skoda Yeti, although a belated participant in the "crossover boom", but he extremely successfully "fit into the market", and even distinguished himself by a number of interesting features.

For example, it pleasantly surprises with its original, "minivan" body composition, as well as an ergonomic, practical and functional interior.

In addition, the “German ancestry” played a significant role in the success of the crossover, and in general the good reputation of the Czech automaker in the eyes of Russian consumers.

In the Russian market, Skoda Yeti had a really hard time, because it has more than enough competitors. The most obvious of them are: Subaru XV, Nissan Qashqai and Terrano Jeep Compass, Suzuki Vitara and SX4 Mitsubishi ASX, Renault Captur And Hyundai Creta... and this list can be continued for a long time, because, despite the fact that the "Czech" acts in the compact SUV segment, in terms of dimensions it is more comparable to subcompact SUVs.

Exterior

Outside, the Yeti can hardly be called a model of beauty and harmony, and it is not particularly perceived as a full-fledged SUV - the car with its outlines is more like commercial “heels”. But originality is the main strong point of the five-door, because it is precisely this that catches the eye, without causing any rejection, and upon closer examination, it begins to amaze with its ingenuous charm.

The pre-styling crossover is impossibly easy to recognize, especially from the front - it flaunts a “four-eyed face” with round foglights that mate directly with the head optics.

After the update, the Skoda Yeti lost this “zest” of its own, putting on discreet lighting equipment and fog lights on the front end, located in their traditional places - on the sides of the lower part of the bumper.

In addition, the upgraded car gives out more angular bumpers, rear lights with C-shaped brake lights and LED sections, as well as a trapezoidal license plate niche (instead of the previous rectangular one).

On top of that, the restyled SUV can be found in two versions - City and Outdoor.

The “urban” modification is distinguished by body-colored bumpers and moldings and its own line of alloy wheels, while the “country” modification has an off-road decor in the form of unpainted plastic “armor” around the perimeter of the body and front pseudo-protection (that is, a silver lining on the bumper).

As they say, “there are no comrades for the taste and color” - someone likes the Yeti, others cause conflicting feelings, while others simply frighten with their originality.

And, it would seem, what significant shortcomings can be in such a "sharpened for practicality" car? However, they are, and very significant:

  • Low quality iron and painting. The paint quickly swells at the places of chips - this phenomenon is most often observed in the area of \u200b\u200bthe rear wheel arches and on all four doors. It is for this reason that it is recommended to wash the car as often as possible, but especially - in winter period time after driving on the streets treated with reagents.

    In addition, after a few years of operation, the logos on the hood and tailgate begin to peel off the crossover, and the chrome also darkens.

  • Far from ideal aerodynamics, which makes this SUV a terrible "dirty": in bad weather, the side windows in the area of the mirrors are quickly splashed with mud (noticeably limiting the view), as well as the tailgate, rear glass and bumper.
  • "Delicate" windshield and headlights. The windshield is quickly rubbed and scratched, and chips on it appear very willingly, while the headlights become cloudy.

Weight and dimensions

The manufacturer Skoda Yeti is positioned as a compact SUV (although in terms of dimensions it is even inferior to many models of the subcompact category): its length fits into 4222 mm (of which the wheelbase “extends” to 2578 mm), the width is 1793 mm, and the height does not exceed 1691 mm.

The ground clearance of the off-road vehicle is 180 mm, while the size of the front and rear track fits into 1541 mm and 1537 mm, respectively.

With regard to equipped and gross weight, then these indicators of the machine depend on the modification:

Interior

Thoughtful minimalism reigns inside the Skoda Yeti - the interior of the car looks thoroughly verified and surprisingly "adult", but it upsets with excessive restraint and even gloominess.

True, such an unremarkable design is more than compensated by impeccable ergonomics, solid finishing materials and good quality assemblies - as they say, everything is smart and to the point, but boring.

In the driver's seat - an academic order: the "pilot" is directly in charge of an exemplary "toolkit" with two "wells" in which analog dials are placed, and a "window" of the onboard computer between them, as well as a three-spoke steering wheel.

In the initial versions, the "steering wheel" is extremely simple in appearance and devoid of any additional features, but in "advanced" trim levels, it boasts multifunctionality, a more developed relief with tides in the grip area and chrome and glossy decor.

By default, the laconic center console is “adorned” with a pair of symmetrical ventilation deflectors, a two-din radio with a monochrome display and three neat “washers” of the air conditioning system.
A bit of “elegance” in expensive versions is extolled by a color 7-inch touchscreen of a multimedia complex, under which there is a visual block of a two-zone “climate” and five buttons for controlling secondary functions.

In general, in the Yeti salon it is difficult to seriously find fault with anything, however, there is also the same “fly in the ointment” here:

  • Mediocre visibility - wide A-pillars and a low seat make the driver actively turn his head to the sides, especially when maneuvering at intersections with pedestrian crossings.
  • In general, the build quality of the car is good, but the plastic panels of the pillars and the ceiling begin to “groan” on bumps even with low runs.
  • “Cold” interior (especially for versions with small engines), or to be more precise, warming up for a long time. In frost below -20 ° C at idle, it takes at least half an hour to warm up the “apartments”, while it becomes more or less warm inside only after the start of movement.
  • As well as the uneven heating of the interior decoration: for example, it can be hot in the car, but the legs will freeze, if it’s comfortable for the legs, then fogging windows overcome, and if you need to provide normal warmth to the inhabitants of the second row, then the front ones will feel like in “Sahara” .

Despite the modest wheelbase, the Skoda Yeti salon pleasantly surprises with its spaciousness - even five adults can sit here without any problems. The front riders rely on ergonomically profiled seats with pronounced side support rollers, dense padding and the widest ranges of adjustments (including height).

In the "base" the car does not have any additional amenities, but in more expensive versions there is a central front armrest, as well as heating, electric drive and seat memory.

The organization of the second row of the crossover is almost exemplary among competitors (and not only). The five-door has a sofa with an optimal shape and filler, divided into three parts, as well as a solid supply of free space on all fronts without exception.
At the same time, rear passengers are not deprived of comfort elements - the “gallery” moves in the longitudinal direction in the range of 15 cm and has a backrest adjustable in tilt angle (in four fixed positions), folding tables stick out in the front seats, and ventilation deflectors are located on the floor central tunnel .

But that's not all - in the "top" trim levels, the possibility of transforming the interior allows you to make the car a four-seater by removing the central narrow part of the sofa and moving the side seats closer to each other.

If we take into account the “dry” numbers, then in terms of internal capacity, the compact SUV has the following indicators:

Luggage compartment

At first glance, it may seem that in terms of carrying capacity, the Skoda Yeti simply has nothing to brag about - the car has a rather modest volume, but with an almost regular shape, the trunk, which, in addition to everything, is flavored with mounting nets and practical hooks.

In its normal state, it is able to accommodate 322 liters of luggage (under the shelf), however, the second row moving “on the sled” allows you to increase this figure to 405 liters.

But most of all, the crossover impresses with its transformation capabilities - the “gallery” is folded in three sections in the ratio “40:20:40”, which brings the capacity of the “hold” to 1665 liters. Besides, rear seats you can completely dismantle it (both completely and in parts), as well as remove a small-sized "reserve" with tools and unscrew the foam caches hiding under the raised floor - in this case, the usable volume will be 1760 liters and you will get a flat cargo area.

And that's not all - on some "Yeti" you can meet front seat with a folding backrest (optional equipment), which allows you to carry objects up to 2.5 meters long in the cabin.

On the Russian market, the Czech crossover is offered with a wide range of powertrains:

  • Gasoline “turboservice” TSI (installed by default on pre-styling versions) with a working volume of 1.2 liters (1197 cm³) with direct injection, variable valve timing and a 16-valve timing belt type DOHC, developing 105 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 175 Nm of torque at 1500-3500 rpm.
  • Gasoline 1.6-liter (1598 cm³) "aspirated" MPI (became the base after the update) with four in-line oriented cylinders, a distributed "power" system, variable valve timing technology and 16 valves, which generates 110 hp. at 5800 rpm and 155 Nm of peak thrust at 3800 rpm.
  • Petrol TSI engine 1.4 liter (1395 cm³) with a cast iron block, compact turbocharger, direct fuel injection, intake phase shifters and a 16-valve timing, producing 125 hp. at 5000-6000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1400-4000 rpm.
  • 1.8-liter (1798 cm³) "four" TSI with turbocharging, direct fuel supply, variable valve timing and timing type DOHC with 16 valves, which produces 152 hp. at 5000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque potential at 1500 rpm.
  • The only diesel is a 2.0 TDI (1968 cm³) with a battery injection system, a turbocharger with variable geometry working apparatus, two-stage oil pump and 16-valve timing, issuing 140 hp. at 4000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm.

Skoda Yeti has a range of gearboxes no less diverse:

  • FROM atmospheric engine a 5-speed “mechanics” or a 6-band hydromechanical “automatic” are combined.
  • Turbo fours with a volume of 1.2 and 1.4 liters in tandem are assigned a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-band DSG robot with dry clutches.
  • The 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines are supposed to have no alternative robotic box DSG on six steps with wet discs.

On modifications of the crossover with 1.2-, 1.4- and 1.6-liter units, only a front-wheel drive transmission is installed, while only the system is connected to the “older” engines. all-wheel drive, “built” on the basis of an electronically controlled Haldex clutch (on pre-styling models - the fourth generation, and on updated ones - the fifth).

By the way, in the company itself, the Yeti all-wheel drive is called permanent, and they are partly right - even in ideal conditions, the clutch works with a slight preload (sending 10% of the traction to the rear axle wheels), and if the road situation worsens, the automation can send up to 50 % moment.

In general, Skoda Yeti boasts fairly reliable engines that are able to travel 200-300 thousand km before overhaul.

However, none of them were without trouble:

All gasoline turbo engines are equipped with a timing chain drive - theoretically, the chain is designed for the entire life of the engine, but in practice it requires replacement after 100-120 thousand km. At the same time, they are characterized by such a problem as the chain jumping over the gear teeth due to stretching and the connivance of an unsuccessful tensioner, which, under the most unfavorable combination, can lead to the repair of the “heart” with bent valves.

Among other things, common misfortunes for "turbo-fours" are unpleasant vibrations on Idling, exactingness to fuel quality, increased “oil consumption” and long warm-up in severe frosts.

The only “aspirated” SUV in the range does not cause much trouble, but it requires updating the timing belt at least every 100-120 thousand km. In addition, such a unit at high mileage may be characterized by high oil consumption, but, as a rule, this is solved by replacing the camshaft seals.

As for the 2.0 TDI turbodiesel, it is one of the least problematic engines under the Yeti's hood. True, the guarantee of his long and happy life is high-quality diesel fuel: in this case, expensive nozzles and high-pressure fuel pumps will last at least 100 thousand km. The timing belt is able to “pass” about the same amount, but then it’s better to replace it.

Manual transmissions installed on the crossover are reliable and unpretentious, not causing any particular complaints. As a rule, they may require some intervention only with a mileage of more than 100 thousand km - for example, replacing differential bearings, leaking oil seals and clutches. According to the regulations, the oil in the manual gearbox of the five-door is filled for the entire service life, but it is advisable to update it every 60 thousand km.

From the unpleasant - in severe frosts, "manual" transmissions have problems with the inclusion of the first two gears, which is solved by warming up for 5-10 minutes at idle.

The classic 6-speed “automatic” is also good on the Czech off-road vehicle: firstly, it works without kicks and freezes; secondly, when timely replacement oil (every 60-80 thousand km), is able to last the entire life of the car.

The robotic DSG7 with “dry” clutches is one of the weakest sides of the Skoda Yeti, especially on early copies. It not only causes inconvenience with "twitchy" work, but also does not differ in an increased resource - its most problem areas are the “mechatronics” block and the clutch, which can “end” after 20-30 thousand km.

The “wet” DSG6 box is much more reliable and, with timely maintenance (oil and filter changes every 60 thousand km), it will not cause any serious trouble to the owner.

The common misfortune of DSG “robots” is that they are not very fond of Russian frosts - for normal driving in the cold season, at least a short (5-10 minutes) warm-up of the car at idle is necessary.

Otherwise, in the “Drive” mode, unpleasant vibrations and knocking and an eyesore on the on-board computer screen can annoy.

All-wheel drive modifications of the SUV are equipped with a Haldex coupling - the main thing here is to update the oil every 60 thousand km: if this procedure is neglected, the electric booster pump may fail, the repair of which will cost a pretty penny.

In general, the Czech crossover demonstrates good off-road potential - it is able to surf paths where many of its "classmates" simply will not reach, and all thanks to the same electronically controlled clutch that skillfully distributes the moment, works with preload and works without delay.

As for the indicators of dynamics and efficiency, here the situation with the Skoda Yeti is as follows:

Chassis

As standard, the Yeti is equipped with independent suspensions:

  • the front uses a MacPherson type design with lower triangular wishbones,
  • rear - multi-link system with one longitudinal and three transverse levers.

"In a circle" - with coil springs and anti-roll bars.

As for the chassis, here the crossover can be recognized as a “round honors student” - it holds a straight line with reinforced concrete, even if the asphalt is damaged by the track. To many, the “hodovka” of this five-door will initially seem harsh, since it conveys the profile of the roadway to the senses in too much detail, but almost everyone eventually recognizes it as really comfortable - the suspension copes with all major potholes and does not allow buildup on the waves.

But the main advantage of the chassis is the highest endurance: it does not cause any trouble and does not need serious intervention even with high mileage. Is it only at the turn of 70-100 thousand km that the stabilizer struts will have to be replaced, and nothing more.

Steering

Regardless of the configuration, the Yeti is equipped with a rack and pinion steering with an electromechanical amplifier.

Manageability is one of the main advantages of this compact crossover: it passes corners perfectly, even despite the high silhouette, allows you to confidently maneuver in dense city traffic and easily go around obstacles that suddenly appear on the way.

In addition, the car boasts an almost perfect amplifier setting - its steering wheel is light, but informative.

Brake system

Disc brakes are used on all wheels of the car, but if on the rear axle they are conventional, then on the front they are ventilated, with a single-piston floating caliper.

The five-door and brakes do not deserve any complaints - they quite effectively cope with the tasks assigned to them.

In terms of reliability, there are no particular problems here, except that only every 30-40 thousand km it is worth changing the front brake pads, and every 80 thousand km - the rear ones (but these are already consumables).

Prices and equipment

On the secondary market In Russia, you can find many supported Skoda Yeti variants with a wide range of prices, with the most common cars with a 1.2-liter engine, a “robot” and a front-wheel drive transmission, while diesel options, on the contrary, are extremely rare.

Crossovers of the early years of production are offered at a price of ≈400 thousand rubles, versions with a turbodiesel will cost from ≈600 thousand rubles, and all-wheel drive modifications with a 1.8-liter engine, they start at a mark of ≈450 thousand rubles *.

If you really want a restyled car, then you should prepare at least ≈ 500 thousand rubles for a low-power version with front-wheel drive, and for the version with a 1.8 TSI engine and an all-wheel drive system, you will have to pay from ≈ 700 thousand rubles *.

The most “fresh” off-road vehicles cannot be bought cheaper than ≈800-850 thousand rubles for simple configurations, while for “top-end” versions you will have to pay from ≈1.2 million rubles *.

As for equipment, in the "base" Skoda Yeti has:

  • two front airbags;
  • black roof rails;
  • electromechanical power steering;
  • power windows of the front doors;
  • interior transformation system VarioFlex;
  • air conditioner;
  • 16 inch steel wheels;
  • heating and electric drive of external mirrors;
  • refrigerated glove box;
  • audio preparation with four speakers;
  • electrically heated windshield washer nozzles.

"Top" configurations are able to boast a much more "delicious" list of equipment (however, they could also be equipped with the widest number of options):

  • six airbags;
  • dual-zone climate control;
  • 17-inch alloy wheels;
  • Cruise control;
  • heated front seats;
  • four power windows;
  • audio system with eight speakers;
  • multifunction steering wheel with leather braid;
  • fog lights;
  • stabilization system (ESP);
  • help function when starting uphill;
  • LED rear lights.

* as of the beginning of 2019.

In general, Skoda Yeti is a surprisingly multifaceted car that can hardly be unequivocally called family, youth or old people. This is a comfortable and functional crossover with “nimble” engines, high-quality performance and impressive interior transformation capabilities, which allows a little more than ordinary cars and does not annoy with serious problems.

If you need a car for purely urban use or long-distance trips on the highway, then almost any version of it is suitable here, however, for off-road attacks (although it can hardly be called such), the choice is limited only to modifications with 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines, because only they have an all-wheel drive system. The same performances will be the most preferable for lovers of dynamic driving, as they have the best power indicators.

If reliability is a priority, it is best to pay attention to either machines with mechanical or automatic boxes gears, or again on solutions with 1.8- and 2.0-liter engines.
