Frame all-wheel drive SUV Great Wall Hover H3 has been known in Russia for quite some time. The first cars of this brand appeared on our roads in 2006 and since then have managed to become the best-selling among Chinese cars of this class. Why is the Great Wall Hover N3 so good and does it live up to the hopes of Russian car enthusiasts who dared to purchase this new “Chinese” in recent years 2012-2013? It's time to look into this issue.

During its existence, Gretvol Hover H3 managed to survive a couple of restylings, the last of which took place not too long ago, and set several sales records. For a Chinese car, such successes sometimes seem fantastic, but the H3 still has some makings of an unspoken leader in its segment.

True, they lie mostly in the technical stuffing, and not in appearance, with which Chinese cars traditionally have big problems. There is no good design school in China, and therefore almost all Chinese cars copy the successful images of Japanese or European bestsellers.

Gret Wall Hover N3 things are even worse: initially appearance was copied from an old (at that time) Isuzu Axiom, and subsequently slightly ennobled through the efforts of the Chinese designers themselves. As a result, even looking quite decent compared to the Chevrolet Niva, the Chinese SUV is noticeably inferior to all other players in the off-road segment of the Russian car market, both in the aesthetics of execution and in the conceptual design of the exterior.

Meanwhile, with their “improvements” the Chinese tried to give Great Wall Hover H3 has as much brutality as possible and a bit of solidity typical of premium SUVs from Japan or Europe. This partially worked out, and this is especially evident in the dimensions of the all-metal body, the length of which is 4620 mm, the width is exactly 1800 mm, and the height, including the spoiler, does not exceed the same 1800 mm.

  • Looks quite impressive and wheelbase Hover H 3, amounting to 2700 mm. But ground clearance for a car positioned as a full-fledged all-terrain vehicle, it is somewhat small: the ground clearance of the Great Wall Hover H3 is 230 mm under the engine crankcase and about 310 mm under the lower edge front bumper.

The Hover H 3 is equipped with only one type of wheels - 17-inch alloy wheels prepared for tires size 235/65 R17. In keeping with the tradition of the Hover car line, the H3 SUV is offered in 10 color variations, of which the most popular shades are graphite black, silver and dark gray. In other cases of color scheme, the car does not look so presentable and even loses its feigned solidity.

The interior of the Hover H3 SUV is simple, unpretentious and completely devoid of even a hint of presentability. It should be noted that the interior of the Gret Wall Hover H3 is quite spacious and comfortable, both in the front seats with good lateral support and in the cozy back row.

But there are also a number of tangible disadvantages. Firstly, because frame structure The chassis floor is raised too high, and the seat position is lowered, which causes discomfort in the legs on long trips. Secondly, the Hover H3 has noticeably poor ergonomics: who could have thought of placing the USB audio system connector in the armrest box? And thirdly, the finishing materials are only depressing; although plastic doesn’t smell like anything, it’s cheap, very cheap.

As a positive point, we note the trunk, the volume of which is approximately 600 liters. It could have been more, but the designers placed a spare tire under the bottom of the Hover H3, so some of the possible space in the trunk had to be sacrificed. By the way, the location of the toolkit in the interior of the SUV is very interesting. It was carefully packed into special mounts under the rising right half back row seats.

Specifications Great Wall Hover H3 produced in 2012-2013: there is only one motor for the Hover H3, so the buyer will not have a choice. True, the engine is not Chinese, but a completely reliable, albeit slightly outdated, Japanese 4-cylinder Mitsubishi 4G63S4M 2.0-liter unit. Unfortunately, the engine has not enough power for such a large SUV - 116 hp at 5250 rpm, which affects speed characteristics. Maximum speed stated at 160 mph, but achieving it will not be easy, since the engine torque does not exceed 175 Nm, and this despite the fact that the curb weight of the Hover H3 is almost 2 tons (1905 kg). The engine prefers to “eat” AI-92 gasoline, and average consumption Gret Wall Hover H3 fuel when driving in the combined cycle is stated at 13.9 liters.

Chinese developers also do not give domestic car enthusiasts a choice of gearbox, offering a 5-speed manual with a dry single-plate clutch paired with the engine. Gear ratio The main gear of the manual transmission is 4.220, and no one has any particular complaints about its performance - gear shifting takes place confidently, without unnecessary squeaks, crunches and other delights, and the gearbox also does not make annoying noise while driving.

Test drive Great Wall Hover H3: first of all, it is important to consider that it is all-wheel drive frame SUV with a massive, almost cargo-like suspension. This, of course, allows the car to feel confident on almost any off-road, but it introduces a huge fly in the ointment when driving on paved roads. At the front, the Great Wall Hover H3 is equipped with an independent double-wishbone suspension with a torsion beam, and at the rear is a dependent spring structure with hydraulic shock absorbers. The suspension settings are maximally adapted to off-road conditions, allowing you to take full advantage of the 4x4 layout, complemented by a two-stage transfer case. But as soon as you go on the highway or get into the city, all the driving advantages of the Hover H3 disappear completely.

As numerous test drives and operating experience of the Great Wall Hover N3 in Russian conditions have shown, the SUV is quite heavy when maneuvering and is completely unsuited to dynamic driving: behind the wheel of this Chinese you can safely forget about confident overtaking, and when changing lanes or on sharp turns, the steering wheel is better hold tight. Whatever one may say, the main element of the Hover H3 is country trips, including extreme auto tourism. Among the positive aspects, we can highlight a good braking system with disc mechanisms on all wheels and a mechanical drive of the parking brake.

How much does it cost to buy a Great Wall Hover H3 in Russia at official dealerships:
The Hover H3 SUV is currently offered in two trim levels: Luxe and Super Luxe. Add to list basic equipment vehicle included: front airbags; ABS + EBD system; child lock system; height-adjustable seat belts; air conditioner; full electrical package, including heating rear window and heated front seats; rear parking sensors; power steering; fog lights; immobilizer and full spare wheel.
The top version of the Greatwall Hover H3 Super Luxe adds: a rear view camera; leather seats; power sunroof; electrically adjustable driver's seat and multimedia system with MP4 DVD Bluetooth support. The price of a simple luxury version of the Great Wall Hover H3 is 699 thousand rubles. For a full minced meat you will have to pay at least 744 thousand rubles.

Let’s complete the review with the traditional list of identified pros and cons Chinese SUV, based on reviews from Russian Hover H3 owners:
Advantages:

  • good cross-country ability on bad roads,
  • a comfortable interior for a “Chinese”,
  • high level of equipment,
  • excellent quality of native Chinese (not Russian) assembly.

Possible problems and malfunctions of Great Wall Hover H3:

  • weak engine, as a result, the need to look for spare parts and repairmen. Make repairs
  • high fuel consumption,
  • boring interior,
  • often poor warranty service.

The Hover N3 test was brutal. We started with a frame Chinese Stavropol resident jumping from our springboard. Is he alive?

Please vote by reading the Hover H3 test, moving the MPS Index cursor along the scale that we offer at the beginning and end of the article.

Hower H3 frame

The new frame Chinese Hover H3 (Hower H3) is the work of automakers at the new Stavropol Auto plant. In addition to replacing the letters “V” with “W” in the name, we found other differences in the new product from the ancestor of the Great Wall Hover, which left our market not so long ago. Under the hood is no longer a naturally aspirated 128-horsepower weakling, but a two-liter Mitsubishi 4G63S4T with a capacity of 150 horsepower and a turbocharger. Hover H3 (Hower H3) frame design with a rigidly connected front axle, reduction gear. The new Hower differs from the Hover in modified optics, bumpers and a huge chrome radiator grille. And Hower H3 did what his older brother couldn’t: a frame Stavropol resident jumped from our springboard ( watch the video).

Easy rebranding (replacing the letter v with w in the name), definition pricing policy and the start of sales - on our test Hower H3, which has already managed to cover 6,500 km on Moscow roads.

The Great Wall line of frame SUVs (especially the Hover model) has gained fame as an imported alternative to the products of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. An affordable price, reliable Japanese components and a more modern appearance than its direct competitors made it possible to sell up to 18 thousand cars annually.

A conflict with a Russian distributor led to Great Wall leaving domestic market- and then the initiative was seized by the Circassian plant Derways, which was already producing bodies for Hover's. They purchased a license from a Chinese manufacturer to produce current models, entered into an agreement for the supply of components and set up production at the new Stavropol Auto plant.

The future owner of Hower will “anneal out” with a licensed supercharged Mitsubishi engine 4G63T. In the second half of the 1990s Lancer Evolution With such engines they won the World Rally Championship. Factory engine power is 280 hp. with recommended 98 gasoline. Although the first updated Hovers with a turbo engine could boast a power of 177 hp, later the engine was limited to 150 “horses”. A powerful and mischievous engine provokes dynamic driving: a rear-wheel drive (in normal mode) all-terrain vehicle is capable of burning rubber on dry asphalt.

When opening the trunk, you pay attention to the large loading height (the price of a full-size spare tire under the floor) and the trunk lid, which does not allow a person taller than 180 cm to stand up to his full height.

Volume luggage compartment does not amaze the imagination: visually it seems that there will be more free space for luggage in the SUV.

Hover H3 test: spare tire under the floor.

Assessing the comfort of rear passengers, you remember.

There is enough space in the cabin of the Hover H3. According to the old tradition of frame SUVs, the driver sits almost on the floor. He is relatively comfortable, if you do not take into account that the steering wheel is not adjustable for reach, and the seat is not ideal. But those behind will not like everything. There seems to be room, but the pillow is very low, and the width is good for two, but a little cramped for three. If we compare the interior dimensions of the Hover H3 with the Patriot, the UAZ is preferable, both in terms of interior and trunk dimensions.

Although there is good headroom, passenger legroom is not cramped, and overall the rear row of seats is well made, low setting the rear sofa leads to an uncomfortable seating position.

Continuing mental comparisons of Hower H3 -, we can assume that driving preferences will be given to the Chinese. It has a clearer gear shift of the 6-speed manual transmission, easy controls, and playful dynamics.

Pleasant little things like updated multimedia: in Hower H3 you don’t feel like you’re at work.

The car is shod in all-season tires: a common attribute of frame jeeps. The strong point of this technique is excellent characteristics off-road and indifference to active and aggressive driving in an urban environment.

Hover H3 test: it’s better not to get carried away with speed

The two-liter turbo engine is a real breakthrough. It’s hard to find such dynamics among all-wheel drive vehicles at a price of about a million, and this is from the standard 150 hp! The engine can be boosted quite easily to at least 200 hp, or even higher. Look at the size of the turbocharger under the hood. If all the other parts of the transmission hold up and the engine does not leave the frame, then without major modifications this unit can be greatly accelerated.

By the way, despite the turbocharger, the Hover H3 can be filled with 92-octane gasoline. The on-board computer can only show instantaneous consumption, so our fuel economy data is purely approximate. At quiet ride in the city and on the highway it turns out to be 10-12 liters. But if you go out onto an empty road and let the engine run wild, gasoline disappears from the tank literally before your eyes.

The six-speed gearbox is also a definite benefit - at a speed of 100 km/h the tachometer shows only 2000 rpm, the engine doesn’t strain too much, and acoustically the Hower H3 is noticeably better than the UAZ.

However, it is better not to get carried away with speed. Even in standard version Hower H3 calmly puts the speedometer needle at 180 km/h, while the GPS shows 174. However, after 130 km/h, driving the SUV becomes like a lottery. In a straight line, it flies relatively stable, but if you happen to brake sharply or dodge an obstacle on the road, you need to be extremely careful with this car. Permanent rear-wheel drive, a long steering wheel and a not very comfortable seating position are not the best set for such experiments. In part, you can rely on ventilated disc brakes on all wheels - this distinguishes the Chinese from.

We repeat again: on high speed, in the case of a more complex maneuver than full braking, all responsibility for the safety of the car and its occupants rests entirely with the driver.

On slippery road Hower H3 can tickle the nerves of even a trained driver. During extreme maneuvers, the frame is no longer perceived as rigid, but, on the contrary, very wobbly, and the long steering wheel is not the best aid when drifting. Instead of a spectacular skid, the Hower slips with the inside rear wheel when turning.

Strong rolls, enormous inertia, dips in traction when switching and the lack of a stabilization system do not inspire optimism - on a slippery road the Hower H3 risks becoming uncontrollable (or even capsizing) and it is better to refrain from sudden maneuvers in a Chinese car.

The Hover H3 snake test convinced us that the conclusion was correct: active “steering” between the cones physically exhausts the driver - a very “long” and uninformative steering wheel has to be turned at large angles, which negatively affects the driving experience.

Hower-H3: Oh, I'll pump it up!

Test Hover H3 on roller skates

Testing the Hower H3 on roller skates, we didn’t expect any revelations. The rear-wheel drive car predictably easily slid off the rollers under the front wheels, after hard connection front wheel drive There were no problems with the rollers under the rear ones. True, the lack of a differential will let you down when hanging diagonally. Or not? We drive onto two rollers, under the front left and under the rear right wheel, accelerate, the revolutions gradually increase... And the Hover H3, contrary to common sense, passes the test.

Hower-H3: One front and rear wheel is enough to get out if the remaining two tires slip.

Hover H3 test: ski jump.

After the ski jump, Hower H3 left me with a mixed feeling. On the one hand, it is the most comfortable of those we have experienced in the jump, but..! ( Watch the video). During landing, the lip of the front bumper almost touches the asphalt. For the crossovers we tested, demolition of a 6-centimeter sponge after a jump is the norm. The only one who left it untouched is Subaru XV. We expected at least the same from Hower H3. With its fairly stiff suspension and quite decent static ground clearance. Under the powerful engine protection is 205 mm, and the shape of the bumper hints at quite serious off-road potential.

According to the driver, the suspension worked perfectly - Hower H3 landed as if on a feather bed. Quite high-profile wheels and an independent front suspension helped here.

Hower-H3: Speed about 70 km/h, jump from 22 cm - the landing is very comfortable for the driver and passengers. True, from the outside it will be clearly visible that there is very little left before touching a hard surface.

Hover H3 test: what is the balance

The price list for Hower H3 without discounts starts at 990 thousand rubles. Quite a lot, considering that for this money you can buy in maximum configuration. On average, an equivalently equipped Hower H3 is 1.5 times more expensive than a Patriot, is it worth the overpayment?

Structurally, a Chinese car is preferable: it is better assembled and better painted, it has an engine with enormous potential and greater variability in the choice of equipment. In turn, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant promises to return a very appropriate diesel engine to the series and boasts an affordable price; both manufacturers are juggling generous discounts.

Without taking into account special offers, the most equipped Hover H3 will cost almost 1.5 million rubles: and even for this price you will not get a stabilization system to curb the temperamental turbo engine - perhaps this is the only thing that prevents us from recommending the Hower H3 for purchase. In other words, the flight is normal, but for the success of the Hover H3 it clearly lacks an adequate price and recognition from those who still remember the letter W in its name.

In the spring of 2014, the first copies of the New H3 SUV appeared in the showrooms of Russian dealers of the Chinese automaker Great Wall - which is the result of a “comprehensive modernization” of the Hover H3 model - it is important that, having changed “beyond recognition,” it remained the same “ successful off-road conqueror."

In terms of appearance, the Great Wall New H3 has noticeably “matured” - its appearance has noticeably added in “aggression and solidity”: a new massive radiator grille, a redesigned bumper and large headlights give the front of the SUV a “modern look with a masculine character.”

But in profile it has practically not changed, you can only note the roof rails... and at the back there are new lights and a bumper with a more pronounced trim (simulating a diffuser).

The dimensions of the “H3” remained virtually unchanged. The length has grown to 4650 mm, while the length of the wheelbase remains the same - 2700 mm, the width of the body fits within the framework of 1800 mm, and the height is limited to 1745 mm. Front track width rear wheels respectively equal to 1515 and 1520 mm. The minimum ground clearance (ground clearance under the engine crankcase) has increased to 240 mm. Curb weight updated SUV Great Wall H3 basic configuration is 1905 kg.

The “restyling” also noticeably affected its five-seat cabin. In addition to improving the quality of materials used in finishing, we note the updated front panel with a modern center console, which has room for a touch screen multimedia system and a small display on-board computer, located at the very top and able to display wide range information, up to altitude above sea level.

True, several disadvantages immediately emerged: the “multimedia” sensor does not always clearly respond to weak touches (which is not entirely convenient while driving), and the on-board computer display is so dimly backlit that it is almost impossible to make out anything on it during the day... Otherwise, the interior remained the same – even the trunk has not undergone any changes (it has never “learned” how to create a flat floor when folding the backrests of the rear row of seats).

Technical specifications. If previously the Great Wall H3 was offered with only one engine option, now power plants two:

  • The role of the base engine is played by the already familiar naturally aspirated 4-cylinder unit “4G69S4N” with a displacement of 2.0 liters (1997 cm³), developed jointly with the Japanese concern “Mitsubishi”. Old motor remained unchanged. As before, its peak power is 116 hp. (although advertising brochures most often featured an overestimated value of 122 hp), which develop at 5200 rpm. Upper torque limit of this engine falls at 175 Nm, maintained in the range from 2500 to 3000 rpm. Base engine works in tandem with the old 5-speed manual transmission - so all fuel consumption parameters remain at the same level - about 11.0 liters within the city and about 8.5 liters on the highway.
  • A little later, modifications with a “new engine” reached Russia. Well, as “new”... the motor is built on the basis of the old one, but received a redesign fuel system, electronics retuning and turbocharging from Shanghai MHI Turbocharger Co. (which is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi in China). As a result, with the same number of cylinders and the old volume of 2.0 liters, the engine, designated “4G63S4T”, can produce 177 hp. maximum power and about 250 Nm of torque (but in the Russian Federation it is certified as “150-horsepower”). Paired with this engine is a 6-speed manual transmission with “extended” gears, which should have a positive effect on the cross-country ability of the SUV (“the 5-speed gearbox” quite often could not withstand heavy loads and smoked the clutch). As for fuel consumption, according to the manufacturer, within the city limits such a tandem will fit within the limits of 13.5 liters, and on the highway it will be limited to 10.0 liters of gasoline (grade no lower than AI-92).

There were no noticeable changes in the design of the Great Wall New H3 chassis - the Chinese only slightly reconfigured the suspension and replaced some of the elements with “reinforced versions”. As before, the SUV is based on a ladder-type frame made of high-strength steel. At the front, the massive body rests on an independent torsion bar suspension of a double wishbone design, complemented by a stabilizer lateral stability. Rear end SUV rests on the dependent spring suspension with a continuous bridge and transverse stabilizer. The all-wheel drive system remains the same: the front wheels are rigidly connected, and rear axle traction is transmitted through a 2-speed transfer case BW 47-60.

In terms of cross-country ability, this model has previously shown itself to be worthy - confidently competing with many famous SUVs, and after restyling it is able to “measure its strength” even with a UAZ - the turbo engine has given the Hover H3 additional power, and the increased ground clearance and reliable crankcase protection will allow it not to be noticed most of the road obstacles.

The pre-restyling Great Wall Hover H3 became the first Chinese car to receive 4 stars according to crash tests conducted in Australia using the EuroNCAP method. During the restyling, no significant changes occurred in this direction, so you should not expect a noticeable improvement in safety. However, for a Chinese car, the “New H3” is already good enough.

Prices and configurations. In Russia, the Great Wall New H3 is offered in five configuration options: “Luxe”, “Super Luxe”, “Super Luxe + leather”, “Turbo Luxe”, “Turbo Super Luxe”.

The Chinese included in the list of basic equipment: 17-inch alloy wheels, spoiler, power steering, fog lights, full power accessories, height adjustable steering column, ventilated disc brakes on all wheels, ABS systems and EBD, front airbags, fabric interior, climate control, rear parking sensors, heated front seats, light and rain sensors, central locking with remote control, heated side mirrors and a full-size spare wheel. In the top-end equipment version, the following is additionally installed: a rear view camera, leather interior, driver's seat with electrical adjustments and a multimedia system with support for CD/DVD/USB/Bluetooth.

The cost of this SUV in 2014 starts at 785,000 rubles, but for the “Turbo Super Luxe” version you will have to pay at least 840,000 rubles.

In 2014, the Chinese frame SUV Great Wall Hover H3 (aka simply Great Wall H3 New) underwent restyling, as a result of which it changed a little outside and inside, and also received a new turbo engine that consumes 92 gasoline without any problems. Today it is the most serious competitor for UAZ Patriot, Chevrolet Niva, Lada 4x4 and the like, since it can offer real cross-country ability, good build quality and interior finishing, large spaciousness and good equipment - all, of course, according to affordable price, V best traditions automobile industry of the People's Republic of China. Design

SUVs are different. Glamorous, unglamorous, workhorses, lame horses... The modernized Hover with the H3 index rather resembles a workhorse, and the ubiquitous glamor, which, no doubt, has reached Toyota, Honda and even the tank-like Suzuki Jimny, if I passed here, it wasn’t too close. “Chinese” is clearly not suitable for an automobile beauty contest, although, in fairness, it should be noted that it is more or less modern. After all, the designers from the Middle Kingdom thought of making it “like everyone else”, installing a huge, sparkling chrome radiator grille with horizontal slats - in the spirit American cars. And they didn’t forget to install large expressive headlight eyes, giving the car some resemblance to huge insects from popular adventure films. Fog lights, according to tradition, have a round shape and are hidden in almost rectangular sections.

From the side, the 2014 Hover H3, like the UAZ Patriot, is incredibly boring. No frills - everything is clear and to the point. Namely - plastic protective linings on the sides, large alloy wheels wheels with a simple pattern, powerful wheel arches and informative exterior mirrors, painted in body color, with turn signals integrated into them. The rear is also boring - this is evidenced by the unremarkable vertical lights and... And in principle there is nothing else to cling to at the “stern”. This is a workhorse, not a miracle of auto design, what can we take from it?

Design

The restyled Hover is based on the same well-proven platform as the pre-reform model. It has an independent torsion bar suspension at the front, and a four-wheel dependent suspension at the rear. trailing arms with Panhard rod. All suspension parts are powerful, due to which the car can easily cope with bumps, potholes, cracks and waves on the roads, especially at medium speeds. Brakes - disc (front - ventilated).

Adaptation to Russian conditions

For the harsh road realities of Russia, the car is not bad - fortunately, there is also an all-wheel drive transmission (control buttons all-wheel drive located in a convenient location - at the bottom of the center console), and 240 mm ground clearance, and fuel tank with a very durable housing, and protection engine compartment, which also protects the gearbox and transfer case from impacts. Hidden in engine compartment new turbo engine unpretentious to fuel quality and calmly treats 92-octane gasoline, which is so popular in our country. For operation in the cold season, heated exterior mirrors, rear windows and seats in the first row are provided, and in addition, climate control is included in each package.

Comfort

As soon as you get behind the wheel of the updated Hover H3, you immediately notice the almost complete absence of the unpleasant phenolic odor that is characteristic of many Chinese cars. You can easily get comfortable in the driver's seat - it is soft, with adequate lateral support and adjustable lumbar support. The seat trim is leather or velor. Steering wheel, like other Great Wall H-series SUVs, is adjustable exclusively for tilt. The instrument panel is also standard “Greatwall” - it is quite clear and perfectly readable. The functionality of the on-board computer, unfortunately, has not changed: on a small screen located between two “wells” fuel consumption indicated only in one form - instantaneous. The range of numbers appearing on the screen is very wide (from 0.1 to 29.0 liters), but the average “appetite” still needs to be calculated in your head or using a calculator. In addition, the on-board computer display occasionally prompts you to upshift or downshift, depending on road conditions.

Between the seats of the first row there is a large two-level box armrest where you can store personal items. Next to it is a cigarette lighter socket (a similar socket is embedded in the wall of the trunk). The gearshift lever on the central tunnel has a nice plastic lining with an “expensive” texture. Unfortunately, there is nowhere to attach a smartphone for charging - except perhaps in the cup holders on the lining of the floor tunnel. The rear of the cabin is spacious: there is enough knee room, even for tall passengers. The transmission tunnel will not interfere with the average passenger - it almost does not protrude from the floor. A surprise awaits under the right seat cushion - the Chinese have placed a set of tools there, useful for long journeys. The cushion of the rear sofa is slightly lower and shorter than necessary, and the backrest is not able to be adjusted in tilt, but it can fold in a 1:2 ratio. Cargo compartment The restyled version is no different from the trunk of its predecessor: its area is large, but the “roller” curtain is not located as high as we would like. However, if desired, it is enough to remove it, thereby making the process of loading and unloading luggage easier.

In 2010, the Irito company, which is the main importer of Hover in Russia, conducted crash tests of the Hover H3 as part of the Safety Program Chinese cars" The tests used the NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) methodology, which involves a frontal crash test with 40% overlap at a speed of 64 km/h, which simulates a “live” frontal impact. In these tests, the Hover H3 was able to demonstrate a decent level of protection for the driver and passengers, earning 11.7 points out of 16 (73%). The standard equipment of the “Chinese” is quite modest: it includes front airbags, anti-lock braking braking system and a braking force system. Parking sensors, navigation, and a rearview camera are available for an additional cost.

IN top-end configuration Hover H3 has a new multimedia system with a touch display, AUX/USB inputs and Bluetooth for connecting gadgets, as well as an SD slot for loading navigation maps. The graphics and sound of the multimedia are acceptable, the image from the rear view camera is clear, blue backlight not very pleasing to the eye, and the interface is overloaded with unnecessary information - such as, for example, a compass, pressure and altitude. There was no indicator of the temperature outside and adjustment of the brightness of the touchscreen. Due to the fact that the brightness of the display cannot be changed, the numbers are difficult to see in the sun during the day, and in the evening their cheerful heavenly glow is simply annoying. Great Wall Hover N3 Specifications

What kind of tricks did the owners of pre-reform “Hovers” resort to in order to make their cars drive as expected: they chip-tuned the engine, installed a mechanical compressor, poured AI-95 gasoline with additives into the fuel tank... And finally, in Great Wall listened to customers and came up with a solution to this problem by using a turbocharger from Shanghai MHI Turbocharger Co. - Chinese division Japanese company Mitsubishi, which inspires confidence to a certain extent. As a result, under the hood of the restyled Hover H3 lives the familiar 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with the index 4G63S4M, which has received a number of modifications. The improved unit produces 177 hp. and 250 Nm of peak torque instead of the previous 116 hp. and 175 Nm (the 116-horsepower version is still on sale along with a 5-speed manual transmission), but derated for Russia up to 150 “horses”. Now the SUV behaves much more recklessly than before - overtaking is definitely easier. For this we should also thank the brand new six-speed manual transmission with “extended” gears.
