Now it is already very difficult to find a mass-produced rear-wheel drive car - and the Hyundai N-1 has just that. In general, looking at the overall design, one is more surprised by the lack of a frame than by the somewhat old-fashioned approach to the overall concept of the car. See for yourself: drive on rear axle, longitudinal arrangement power unit, until recently - a four-speed "automatic" (or a mechanical five-speed - now, however, there is already a 5-automatic transmission for diesel engine 2.5 VGT), dependent rear suspension... The first is Theta 2.4 MPi, and as the name implies, it has a volume of 2.4 liters and does not have a turbine. The power of the gasoline aspirated is 173 hp. at 6,000 rpm, the maximum torque of this motor is quite modest for a heavy machine - 225 Nm. We have no other petrol engines for you. But there are diesel ones.

More weak aggregate- naturally aspirated A2 2.5 CRDi, its power is 116 hp, but the torque reaches 343 Nm, which is much higher than that of gasoline engine. And finally, the most interesting engine is the A2 2.5 CRDi (VGT) diesel engine, equipped with a turbine with variable geometry(the same letters VGT, variable geometry turbocharger). There are already 170 "horses" here, and a very interesting maximum torque of 392 Nm at 2,000 - 2,500 rpm. A car with such a motor and visited us on the test.

The longitudinal arrangement of the motor made it possible to simplify the transmission with a drive to the rear axle as much as possible. Now there are almost no such layouts left. For instance, Volkswagen Caravelle has a permanent four-wheel drive 4MOTION, which changes the distribution of torque depending on road conditions, and adaptive dampers with electronic DCC control.

Moreover, the “German” is not much more expensive: the cost of the second Comfortline configuration starts at approximately 2,260,000 rubles, and our Hyundai is also of the second configuration - from 2,134,000 rubles. True, there is nothing to break in Hyundai, but we will somehow talk about Volkswagen separately.

A distinctive feature of the H-1 body is the sliding doors on both sides of the body. As it turned out, this is very convenient. Entrance and exit become not only convenient, but also safe, because a passenger who opens the door to the left side has practically no risk of stopping the transport going to the left with it. And carefree passengers usually try to do just that. The doorway is enough to freely enter and exit, slightly tilting your head. And although from the outside the minivan seems compact enough, there is room for such maneuvers with a margin.

The only remark is the way the sliding doors open and close. If you can open them just by applying a certain effort to the handles, then in order to slam them, you need a lot of strength. Sometimes - a lot. Especially from the inside, so when transporting passengers (and for the purposes of the experiment I drove all my closest relatives in the car for several days at once), I had to periodically get out and close the doors myself, because not everyone could do it from the passenger compartment. When my unprintable moans became almost undisguised and too obvious, my father-in-law came to the rescue. So they closed the car: one - on the left, the other - on the right. How can one not recall the closers of the same fifth Caravel?

The only bad thing is that there is only one locking position on the middle row skids, but I would like the seats to be at least a little pushed forward and left in that position. The distance between the front row and the second row is large, at least stretch your legs, but it’s a bit crowded in the back, so there is a desire to slightly shift the middle row forward. But this, unfortunately, cannot be done.


But there are no complaints about the front doors. Everything is like a regular passenger car, but I still constantly walked with dirty knees. True, he did not understand what he was dirtying them with, but it is quite obvious that this happened just during landing.

The passenger seats in the H-1 are very comfortable. True, during the test drive, more than a hundred kilometers did not pass without stopping, but everyone who was sitting in the back seats was very pleased with the landing. If from the back row it was a little more visible through the side windows, then for comfort one could put a very solid five. We will put just five, which does not detract from the merits of Hyundai.
