In the second half of 2016, the Korean automaker SsangYong presented an updated version of one of its most popular models - the mid-size crossover Korando, better known in Russia as the Actyon. Compared to its predecessor, the car received a more aggressive and dynamic appearance, as well as new and higher quality internal content.
But the technical component of the crossover remains the same, however, this in no way spoils general impression about a car that claims to be the most balanced in its price segment. In any case, this is the description the manufacturer himself gives to the new product, but we’ll try to figure it out during our review of the 2017 SsangYong Korando.

The main changes to the exterior of the updated Korando affected the front part of the car, thanks to which it began to be perceived as more dynamic and aggressive. Thus, the crossover acquired a completely new and more stylish false radiator grille, modified headlight optics, complemented by a chain of LED running lights, and a new front bumper with turn signals and fog lights merged together.
The profile of the car has not undergone any changes and, as before, pleases the eye with the presence of powerful wheel arches, large side doors and a sloping roofline, giving the car a more dynamic appearance.
The rear of the crossover also remained virtually unchanged, and the main innovation was the appearance of all-LED side lights. The neat door remained in place luggage compartment, powerful rear bumper and a rear spoiler designed to improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the car.
External dimensions of the SsangYong Korando 2017 have the following parameters:
- Length– 4.41 m;
- Width– 1.83 m;
- Height– 1.675 (1.71) m;
- Axle distance– 2.65 m.
Potential buyers can choose one of seven body colors, as well as one of several designs rims, which were complemented by a set of R18 light-alloy rollers with diamond polishing.

The interior design has undergone more significant changes. First of all, they affected the quality of the materials used, which came very close to the quality of European competitors.
Secondly, the driver received a more stylish and modern three-spoke multi-steering wheel, as well as a completely new dashboard, which became not only more concise and informative, but also acquired a more informative display on-board computer.
The latest innovation is the appearance of the advanced MirrorLink multimedia and entertainment system, which displays information on a large 7-inch touch screen. Although the architecture of the front dashboard has remained the same, due to the innovations mentioned above, it is in no way inferior to modern solutions from competitors. The somewhat archaic design of the microclimate control unit, which, however, is highly intuitive and informative, is a little disappointing.
The front seats provide the maximum level of comfort and boast not only a wide range of adjustments, but also a heating function, which is especially important in conditions Russian winter. Optional driver's seat can be equipped with a ventilation system, which is still rare for cars in this price segment.
The second row of seats accommodates three passengers and offers ample space in all directions. Moreover, the backs rear seats can be locked in 6 different positions, allowing you to achieve maximum comfort and easily travel long distances.
The trunk volume with its 486 liters is able to satisfy the needs of most potential buyers, while it can be increased almost threefold by folding the rear seat backs. In the trunk underground there is a special niche in which the spare wheel and a small repair kit are located.
Buyers are offered the opportunity to choose one of several variations of upholstery, as well as the installation of decorative inserts made of wood or brushed aluminum, after installation of which the interior is perceived as more expensive and presentable.
Technical specifications SsangYong Korando (Actyon) 2017
The updated Korean crossover can be driven using a gasoline engine familiar from its predecessor and a completely new diesel engine:
- 2 liter gasoline engine, equipped with a phase change system and intake manifold, allowing to generate 149 “horses” and 197 Nm of torque. This motor provides acceleration from 0 to 100 in 10.8 (11.6) seconds, depending on the type of preinstalled transmission: 6-band automatic or manual. The maximum declared speed of a car with such an engine is 165 km/h, and the combined fuel consumption is about 9.7-10.9 liters for every 100 km.
- A 2.2-liter turbodiesel that develops 400 Nm of torque and 178 horsepower and allows the car to reach the first “hundred” in less than 10 seconds. Maximum speed of a car, regardless of the type of gearbox, is 185 km/h, and fuel consumption ranges from 6.5-8.6 l/100 km in mixed driving mode.
The manufacturer emphasizes that, compared to the previous generation, vibration and noise from the engine and transmission have decreased by more than 10%. This was achieved by installing more rigid subframes and cushions responsible for mounting the engine.
The suspension remained unchanged, represented by MacPherson struts with transversely located arms and shock absorbers on the front axle, and a multi-link system with transversely located shock absorbers and telescopic shock absorbers. Disc brakes, additionally equipped with a ventilation system on the wheels of the front axle, are responsible for braking.
The steering in simple configurations is represented by a hydraulic booster, and in more expensive ones – by an electric booster, with the ability to change gear ratios.

The good news is that the SsangYong Korando 2017 has significantly increased its level of safety, which was achieved not only through the use of more durable and modern types of steel, but also thanks to the installation of a large number of electronic assistants and systems, including:
- 6 airbags (front, side and curtain);
- Tire pressure monitoring sensors;
- Stability and rollover prevention system;
- ABS and brake force distribution system;
- Assistant when starting to ride downhill;
- Automatic emergency deceleration warning function;

Currently, the SsangYong Korando in Russia is offered in five versions (Welcome, Original, Comfort, Elegance and Premium), with the price starting at 1.169 million rubles. (about 20.2 thousand dollars at the current exchange rate).

Conclusion
The manufacturer did not deceive new SsangYong Korando is a truly well-balanced car, offering the buyer a wide range of basic and optional equipment, front or four-wheel drive, as well as spacious and comfortable salon, easily accommodating five passengers.
Of course, the car is somewhat inferior to its more expensive European and Japanese classmates, but in its price category the crossover has practically no competitors.

At the Geneva Motor Show in 2019, the world premiere of the 4th generation SsangYong Korando crossover (in Russia, the model is known as Actyon) in the new C300 body took place. Start of sales of the model on domestic market has already taken place, and the cars will appear in Europe in the summer.
The new Sanyeng Korando 2019-2020 (photo and price) is made in the style of a larger one. The car has the same front design with eye-catching folds along the edges of the hood, as well as similar headlights and tail lights. Plus, in the appearance of the model, some borrowings from the conceptual e-SIV can be traced.
In turn, the interior of the new SsangYong Korando 2019 model year made in the “Blaze Cockpit” style, which is characterized by the presence of large displays. A 10.25-inch touchscreen for the multimedia system is built into the center of the front panel.
Dashboard The car is also digital - a 9.0″ screen is used to display information. As for analog buttons, their number in the model new generation reduced to a minimum. Plus, the driver and passengers are designed to please the contour lighting.
However, all this is relevant only for the top-end configuration of the Korando, while in the base the multimedia monitor is noticeably more modest, simple music is installed, and the instrumentation is analog with a small monochrome display of the on-board computer.
The new Sang Yong Aktion 2020 body is still based on a platform with MacPherson front suspension and rear multi-link. The overall length of the crossover is 4,452 mm (+ 42), wheelbase size - 2,675 (+ 25), width - 1,870 (+ 40), height - 1,620 (- 20), trunk volume (under the shelf) has increased from 486 up to 551 liters, and with the backrests of the second row folded, the compartment reaches 1,248 liters.
In the domestic market, only a 1.6-liter turbodiesel with 136 hp is announced for the new Korando. and 324 Nm, while for Europe an entirely new 1.5-liter GDI-Turbo petrol engine with direct injection and turbocharged, producing 163 “horses” and 280 Nm of torque.
Transmission options include a six-speed manual or a similar automatic from Aisin. By default, the crossover has front-wheel drive, while an all-wheel drive transmission can be ordered for an additional fee, but only for the two-pedal version. An electric modification is expected to appear in the future.
The list of options for the SsangYong Korando / Aktion includes dual-zone climate control, front seat ventilation, LED headlights and a complex of electronic assistants “Deep Control”. The latter includes adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring, emergency braking, as well as functions for keeping the car in the lane.
The price of the new SsangYong Korando 2020 on the South Korean market varies from $19,700 to $25,100 (the car is offered in Shiny, Delight and Fantastic trim levels). The cost of the SUV in the Old World has not been specified, but in Russia you should not expect a new product, since the company has suspended deliveries of cars to our market.
Even minor financial difficulties in the South Korean SsangYong company did not become a reason to refuse to release new car models. An example is the updated version of the SsangYong Korando. The crossover, which in Russia was known as the Actyon, was very popular before the restyling, but after the update, as a result of which the appearance became more dynamic and the unit powerful, many people were waiting for its appearance.
Updated SsangYong Korando 2018
The car began its journey in the mid-90s of the last century as a licensed frame converted from a Jeep CJ-7. Buyers were offered two versions of the car: convertible and station wagon. There were 5 engines to choose from, a couple of which were diesel.
The name Korando comes from a play on the words "Korea Can Do", which translates to "Korea Can Do". The bold statement was quite confidently translated into action. Updated versions from Sang Yong appeared. In the new modifications, it was decided to move away from frame structure and release Sang Yong with monocoque body.

It must be borne in mind that the SsangYong Korando is better known under this name in Europe and in its homeland. In Russia this car got a name New Actyon and was first presented at the Moscow Motor Show in 2010.
In the updated model, the designers decided to move away from rough chopped forms, smoothing out the lines of the body, roof, and bumpers. The off-road brutality was lost in the image and the status of a crossover appeared. The car became available in both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive versions.

There are no aggressive lines or shapes in profile stampings. All curves are smooth, emphasizing the high dynamic parameters auto.
On the rear side, the relatively flat roof ends in a short spoiler, under which hides a red light that duplicates the stop signals. The glass on the fifth door is located at an angle, which helps keep it clean no matter how you drive. The massive rear bumper hides the installed parking sensor reflectors.
In the lower part there are pipes spaced at the edges exhaust system. In general, they practically do not protrude beyond the small rear overhang, which allows you to approach small obstacles as close as possible.
The outside dimensions are as follows:

- height - 1675 mm excluding roof rails;
- wheelbase- 2.65 m.
Great ground clearance 190 mm allows you to overcome any obstacles outside of asphalt roads.

Security systems
Even if undesirable events such as traffic accidents occur and the SsangYong Korando subsequently requires repairs, you need to be sure that the car will provide the maximum level of protection to the driver and passengers. To do this, engineers take care of the presence of active and passive systems security.

Technical characteristics of SsangYong Korando 2018
As power plants car owners are offered two engine options:
- Volume 2.0 l e-XGi200 petrol unit. It is capable of developing a maximum of 149 hp. at speeds of 3500-4000 rpm. The highest torque is 197 Nm.
- Volume 2.0 l e-XDi200 turbocharged diesel. The derated version for Russia is limited to 149 hp, and in Europe and South Korea it is capable of gaining 179 hp. Torque increases to 360 Nm at 2000-2500 rpm.
Similar equipment is available on the SsangYong Korando Sports. A six-speed transmission is allowed: automatic or manual.
An updated version of the machine is expected to enter the market in the near future. It is already available to European motorists. There are noticeable changes in her appearance:
- front bumper updated;
- the radiator grille has been changed;
- The shape of the foglights and head optics has been adjusted.
There will be something new in the salon steering wheel. The dashboard will have separate wells. Heated rear seats and steering wheel will be available. The diesel engine will increase to 2.2 liters.

Unfortunately, the Korean company Sang Yong began to experience significant financial problems at the beginning of this decade, so many are very good projects were frozen. One of these is the restyling of the Korando crossover. Now that the situation has improved somewhat, the Koreans are ready to show their new model. Of course, Sang Yong Korando 2019 is somewhat different from the concept that was shown to the public back in 2010. The car will have a more modern look and will receive nice salon with many options, and will also boast quite good characteristics for its price.

The car's muzzle is set very high and is short in length. The hood here is placed strictly parallel to the road and is not decorated with practically anything other than a few protruding stripes on the sides. Particularly eye-catching is the finishing of the central part of the bumper, where there is a wide air intake strip, finished in both chrome and gloss black. On both sides, the grille ends with unusual-looking optics, inside of which there are halogen or xenon lights that provide excellent illumination of the road in any weather conditions.
The body kit looks especially aggressive here, most of which is made of unpainted plastic. In addition to it, here you can find another air intake mesh for better cooling engine compartment, as well as large cutouts for anti-fog optics, made in the shape of the letter “C”. At the very end of the body kit there is also a metal protection.
On the sides, the main decoration of the car is a bunch of wave-like relief, most of which is collected on the doors. Also here you can see neat windows edged with black gloss, modest rear-view mirrors, trimmed either with plastic or painted with the same gloss and equipped with turn signals, greatly expanded wheel arches with plastic lining and other decorative little things that make the car look so stylish.
From the rear, the new product will be very similar to other representatives model range companies. The tailgate here is located at a slight angle and slightly rounded closer to the middle. The roof, like many similar cars, ends here with a short visor, on which there are brake lights. Most of the door is covered by a window, and the rest of the door can be found with large teardrop-shaped marker lights and some relief. The slightly protruding body kit houses details such as a metal diffuser, fog lights, a towing eye and a real dual exhaust.

Inside, the car is made incredibly beautifully and with high quality. The new Sang Yong Korando 2019 model year boasts the presence of finishing materials such as natural or artificial leather, plastic made to resemble metals and even wood, as well as high-quality fabrics that are pleasant to the touch. Modern technology is responsible for the comfort of passengers multimedia system.
The center console is designed laconically. The main element here is a large multimedia monitor, which is surrounded on the sides by deflectors, and below it there are analog buttons and washers that allow you to configure options that are responsible for comfort. These include climate control and heated seats. At the end of the console you can see a lockable compartment with sockets for connecting accessories.
The tunnel is much brighter. Most of it is covered with plastic inserts painted to resemble wood, which makes the look richer. From technical elements here you can find the gear shift knob, parking brake and a panel with buttons that configure the chassis. For comfort here, cup holders with the ability to heat or cool, as well as an armrest with a refrigeration unit inside are responsible.
Also, a lot of attention was paid to the finishing of the seats in order to achieve the maximum level of comfort for passengers and the driver. For this purpose, the seats are finished, depending on the configuration, with either natural or artificial leather, which is always pleasant to the touch and is wear-resistant. Also present here are additional options. Front row here it is equipped with heating, electric seat adjustments in several directions and large ranges, adjustable headrests and good lateral support. At the back you can see a comfortable sofa that can easily accommodate three adults. There is heating, an adjustable backrest and an armrest with holes for glasses.
Specifications
You can purchase the SsangYong Korando 2019 with one of two available engines. It can be like a two-liter gasoline engine, the output of which is 149 horsepower, and a 2.2-liter diesel engine producing 179 horsepower. Unfortunately, our second option will be a little weaker - the same 149 horses, in order to avoid unnecessary taxes. From the gearboxes, the buyer can choose either mechanics or automatic, operating in six ranges. All forces will be transmitted only to the front axle. As the test drive shows, such characteristics allow the car to move with ease both around the city and beyond.
Options and prices
Unfortunately, there is no data yet on what the price of the Sang Yong Korando 2019 will be, or how the options will be broken down by trim level.
Release date in Russia
The start of sales in Russia should begin no later than spring 2019.
Previous Korando on Russian market known by the name - in previous years, these cars were found with us by up to 20 thousand buyers annually. Now the name Actyon has actually fallen out of use, but in Korea Korando is still in service and is preparing for a generation change: the company published the first photos and shared some data.
Overall dimensions have not yet been made public, although it is stated that the crossover has noticeably grown in length and width, catching up with the Tiguan. Korando has become prettier: simpler shapes have been replaced by more elegant lines with pronounced edges on the sides. It is still based on a platform with McPherson suspension at the front and multi-link at the rear.
The first photo of the interior shows the Korando in maximum configuration: It has a 10.25-inch Blaze Cockpit virtual instrument cluster with ambient lighting and seven airbags including knee airbags. But simpler versions will have conventional dial gauges and a monochrome trip computer screen.
Options include a media system with a nine-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, LED headlights, as well as a complex of Deep Control assistive electronics, which includes adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, blind spot monitoring and lane keeping. Trunk volume has been increased from 486 to 551 liters.
So far, only one engine has been announced for the Korando - a new 1.6 turbodiesel with 136 hp. The choice is “mechanics” or a six-speed “automatic” Aisin. By default Korando has front wheel drive, but all-wheel drive can only be ordered for two-pedal versions. Later, a gasoline engine will also appear in the range.
