Frankly, I expected a greater effect. On paper, the advantage of the turbodiesel looks overwhelming: it has 23 hp. With. more powerful, and the torque is almost twice as high: 436 versus 226 Newton meters! Moreover, the latest, third generation of Common Rail fuel injection using piezoelectric injectors allows you to achieve this impressive value from 1800 to 2500 crankshaft revolutions per minute. And as a result, acceleration to hundreds is one and a half seconds faster. However, having changed to the wheel of a Santa Fe-2.2CRDi with gasoline car, I didn’t find anything out of the ordinary.

Yes, the diesel Hyundai is faster, but not as much as expected specifications. It readily and quickly accelerates from a traffic light, quickly responds to the gas pedal during city lane changes, and does not hang up in the oncoming lane during prolonged overtaking on the highway. But that’s not to say that Santa Fe 2.4 loses a lot. It can be stated with full responsibility: not only almost two hundred horsepower of the R series motor - it was developed by a team of 150 designers, having successfully mastered E150 million - but also 174 hp. With. no less modern gasoline engine“Santa Fe” is enough for all occasions. Which, by the way, was taken care of again by the latest 6-speed automatic transmission, which replaced the previous 4-band “automatic”.

Of course, 2.2CRDi is more economical. But you shouldn’t count on ceremonial numbers in performance characteristics. What a 6.2 liter outside the city! During the week of our acquaintance, I was never able to convince the on-board computer to show below 10 l/100 km when traveling along highways near Moscow. In the city, as you can see from our photographs, the diesel Santa Fe drank 12–13 liters. In general, we can assume that the gasoline unit is about two liters more voracious. If so, then in three years (or 70 thousand kilometers) 2.2CRDi will save its owner a hundred thousand rubles with a small tail.

But if you look at the price list, you will find that the basic diesel Santa Fe is 241 thousand more expensive than its most affordable gasoline counterpart. And all because the 2.2CRDi cannot be bought with front-wheel drive - only with a 4 x 4 transmission. In the optimal configuration "Comfort" - "Base" implies a manual gearbox, which in combination with diesel engine hard to name good choice- the difference with the gasoline version will be a much more acceptable 116 thousand rubles.

So it turns out that only those who have enough of a large gasoline station wagon with front-wheel drive can save seriously. But if you need a full-fledged, even “parquet” one, don’t forget about a passenger car independent suspension, which the Santa Fe inherited from the Sonata - an all-terrain vehicle, then you are left with two full-fledged options. Pay less first for the version with a 2.4-liter engine or pay more for diesel engine and then spend less on fuel.

Otherwise, the cars are equal - both are distinguished by a spacious, comfortable, well-equipped interior and a chassis that is not prone to aggressive driving. This, by the way, is why the serious theoretical advantage of a diesel engine in power and torque cannot be called decisive: the Santa Fe does not really encourage sharp, dynamic driving. In any case, it remains a car for traveling with the whole family over long distances at any time of the year and on any roads - of course, with a hard surface.

And yet, if you dig hard, you can find at least one more argument for the Santa Fe with a 2.2CRDi engine. The fact is that such a car has, oddly enough, only one competitor in our market - the Sorrento with exactly the same R series turbodiesel. And all other mid-size crossovers of comparable price are sold in Russia only in a gasoline version.

WE DECIDED:

A powerful modern diesel engine is ideal for the Santa Fe. It is more expensive than a gasoline engine, but promises to make up the difference in price in fuel economy.

Its main advantage is a fair amount of car for very reasonable money. Spacious salon, large trunk, high ground clearance plus an impressive appearance - these are the reasons for the success of the Santa Fe. The first generation car debuted in 2001 and became the first all-terrain vehicle of the Hyundai brand. It was sold in Russia until 2010, and in the last three years, when the Santa Fe I was assembled in Taganrog, “Classic” was added to the name. The second generation car, which we will talk about, appeared on our market in 2007. Compared to its predecessor, the crossover has grown in size, received new engines and a more modern appearance.

Officially they delivered to us as all-wheel drive modifications, and versions with front-wheel drive. The cars were brought from South Korea with gasoline engines (2.4 and 2.7 liters) and a 2.2-liter turbodiesel. The buyer could choose between “mechanics” and “automatic”. In addition, “Santa” was also released in the USA; and a sufficient number of American “Koreans”, falling into the category of second-hand goods, received a ticket to our market.

A full electrical package and a set of all necessary safety equipment are available for any copy; and in trim levels close to the top ones, you can find leather upholstery, navigation and various electronic assistants in assortment.

Currently, sellers are selling new cars at a price of 1.3–1.7 million rubles, but in the coming months, in anticipation of the start of sales of the third generation Santa, dealers may announce discounts. On secondary market the price for a three-year-old copy ranges from 700,000 to 1,100,000 rubles; Thus, you can profit 400–500 thousand by buying a used car. Agree, this is a worthy discount! There is only one complaint regarding the body of the Santa Fe - some examples have spots of corrosion on the roof. However, Hyundai provides a five-year warranty on the body, so dealers will fix such a defect for free. If you notice rust in any other place on a three-year-old car, this is a clear sign that the car has been in an accident.

Other possible troubles include sticky keyless entry buttons that break over time. And although they need to be changed along with the entire assembly mechanism, such a procedure is inexpensive.

Not everything is going smoothly with the electrics either: for example, the complex multimedia system with navigation sometimes starts to freeze. Unfortunately, a simple re-flashing is not enough: you have to change the entire “head”. And this, for a second, is 80,000 rubles!

There are also problems with the brake pedal sensor, which sometimes fails on cars with automatic transmissions. This leads to the fact that the brake lights stop working and it becomes difficult to change gears in the automatic transmission. This disease can be treated by simply replacing the sensor.

Transmission

Diagnostics is required

When buying a Santa Fe, it is worth remembering that this is by no means an all-terrain vehicle, but a crossover built on the platform of the Sonata passenger car. The driver can forcefully lock the clutch, sending 50% of the torque to the rear wheels, but this will not turn the car into an all-terrain vehicle. That's why before purchasing, be sure to diagnose the transmission: suddenly previous owner imagined yourself as a jeeper and went to knead the mud? In this case, you may end up with expensive repairs.

In general, if you don’t torment it with off-road driving, the Santa Fe transmission is extremely reliable and should not particularly bother the second owner: the clutches all-wheel drive Dealers did not have to change it on three-year-old cars.

In 2010, the Santa Fe underwent a restyling (externally it can be easily identified by the emblem: it peeled off from top edge radiator grille and moved to its middle), as a result of which the 2.7-liter V6 gave way to a 2.4-liter inline “four” - this engine has noticeably lower fuel consumption. But, unfortunately, there is still not enough information regarding the reliability of the newcomer.

I would also like to say something about cars from the States that were brought to Russia unofficially. Americans have a well-known disregard for oil changes, which is why we recommend avoiding such “Santas.” From the outside, red turn signals will help you identify an “American,” and the VIN number will tell you comprehensive information about the origin of the car.

Chassis and steering

The warranty won't help

The suspension is generally reliable - both MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear. Levers can easily run 200,000 km, but shock absorbers can die earlier: the front shock absorbers last an average of 100 thousand, the rear ones often give up before reaching 50 thousand kilometers. We recommend that you check them before purchasing a car during diagnostics, because not all drivers drive carefully on our roads. But the Santa Fe, as we remember, was designed on the basis of the Sonata. Changing the struts all around will cost about 30,000 rubles, and the warranty will not help here, since it only covers shock absorbers for the first 20,000 km.

The front pads last 30 thousand kilometers, and the rear ones - 45 thousand kilometers. Brake discs traditionally last twice as long: 60,000 and 90,000 km, respectively.

It’s not for nothing that the brand’s dealers praise the Santa Fe, calling it a model of reliability. If maintenance is carried out in a timely manner, then even after the warranty expires, “Santa” should not cause much trouble to the second owner. And even though diesel is much more economical than its gasoline counterpart, in regions with harsh winters it will prove untenable. We recommend choosing the gasoline version, which was officially sold in Russia. It’s wise to choose a copy without fancy multimedia system.
