Ground clearance, still the same, is 201 mm (159 mm with gross weight). Curb weight varies from 2097 to 2506 kg and depends on the type of configuration.

• The youngest among gasoline engines for the Tuareg is a V-shaped, 6-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with a displacement of 3.6 liters (3597 cm³), a 24-valve DOHC timing belt and direct injection fuel. Its upper power limit is 249 hp. at 5500 rpm, and the peak torque occurs at 360 Nm, developed at 3500 rpm. With this engine, the crossover accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds, and also accelerates to a “maximum speed” of 220 km/h. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is about 10.9 liters.
• The older gasoline “aspirated” engine has 8 V-shaped cylinders with a displacement of 4.2 liters (4134 cm³), a 32-valve DOHC timing belt and direct fuel injection. This motor is capable of producing up to 360 hp. power at 6800 rpm and about 445 Nm of torque at 3500 rpm. Dynamic characteristics Touaregs with this engine look even more attractive: starting acceleration is 6.5 seconds, maximum speed is 245 km/h. As for fuel consumption, in the combined cycle the gasoline flagship consumes about 11.4 liters.
• Among diesel V-shaped power units equipped with turbocharging and direct fuel injection Common Rail, the minor role is played by a 6-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters (2967 cm³), capable of producing up to 204 hp. power at 4000 rpm, as well as 400 Nm of torque in the range of 1400 – 3500 rpm. The diesel engine can accelerate the crossover from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds or accelerate to 206 km/h maximum speed. As part of the “restyling of 2014-2015”, the fuel consumption of the younger diesel engine decreased from 7.0 to 6.6 liters per 100 km.
• A little higher on the list of diesel engines is a more powerful version of the 3.0-liter engine, producing up to 245 hp. power at 3800 – 4400 rpm and up to 550 Nm of torque at 1750 – 2750 rpm. Volkswagen Touareg with this engine reaches the first 100 km/h on the speedometer in 7.6 seconds and can accelerate to 220 km/h. Restyling also made the engine a little more economical: in the combined cycle, consumption dropped from 7.2 liters to 6.8 liters.
• The top level in the line of diesel power units is occupied by an 8-cylinder “monster” with an output of 340 hp. at 4000 rpm and a torque of 800 Nm, available at 1750 - 2750 rpm. With such an engine, the crossover accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 242 km/h. Average consumption fuel will be about 9.1 liters.

Note that all engines in the Volkswagen Touareg are coupled with a non-alternative 8-band Aisin automatic transmission, which has a manual shift function. We also add that this SUV is also available with a hybrid power plant(which is the subject of a separate review).

The mid-size crossover Volkswagen Touareg is built on a durable platform with fully independent spring suspension front and rear, designed on two wishbones. All wheels of the crossover are equipped with disc brakes with discs with a diameter of 330 mm, while the front discs are ventilated. The rack and pinion steering mechanism is complemented by a Servotronic hydraulic booster with variable force. As standard, all cars are equipped with a 4Motion all-wheel drive system with a Torsen center limited-slip differential, which by default distributes torque in a ratio of 40:60 in favor of rear axle. The restyled Volkswagen Touareg 2nd generation (sales began in 2014) is very close in technology to Porsche Cayenne. All modifications of the Volkswagen Touareg are equipped with an all-wheel drive system, but there are two variations: 4Motion and 4XMotion. More simple circuit 4Motion includes a Torsen (40:60) asymmetrical center differential with locking capability and a classic rear differential. The “off-road” version of 4XMotion additionally provides for the presence of transfer case a reduction series with a gear ratio of 2.69:1, and a locking mechanism in the rear differential.
