The main selection criteria were a sufficiently large weight, good wind protection and good engine torque, with good traction throughout the range. Of the minuses, I would call an atypical arrangement of radiators on the sides ... if you unsuccessfully drop the motor, you can break through the radiator and the motor will lose speed. The B-four and the very engineering of the motorcycle comes down to compactness, which means the difficulty of access for maintenance, although the owners say that with proper experience, access to the motor is provided in just a few minutes. I bought it quite suddenly for myself, at a local bike forum I found a person who imports motorcycles from Japan and it turned out that one of the areas of his work is the import of thrushes))) we exchanged a couple of phrases, people on the forum confirmed his seriousness and I He said that in which case I would buy a mot from him. By the way, I’ll say right away that I didn’t even consider a motorcycle with mileage in Russia and definitely intended to take it from the auction. And so, in November, there was a sudden call from him, he said that 2 motorcycles of interest to me had arrived and I could take a look at them, both motorcycles were good, each in its own way, however, the black one seemed to me as the most successful option when I saw that I thought - must take despite the fact that winter is ahead!))
I chose a motorcycle from several colors, I can say with confidence that the CBR1100XX is good in ANY color, it looks great even white, even red, even metallic gray, even Repsol colors and varnish-strike colors look great.

Of course, palm trees are good, but I live far from Miami Beach, so it was decided to take black, besides, I thought in my heart that Blackbird must be exactly black, preferably matte, like its fast-winged namesake reconnaissance aircraft SR-71…))
The motorcycle turned out to be completely stock, no Japanese-collective farm and tuning, exactly what I was trying to achieve, knowing firsthand that the collective farm and tuning appears, as a rule, as a result of an accident.)
While the winter lasted, the thrush stood sadly in the garage, waiting for warm days. The purchase emptied my pocket and licking my lips at all sorts of goodies for thrushes at foreign auctions, I decided to buy only the bare necessities.


I would like to point out that on this model an insane amount of tuning and useful little things, on Facebook in the thrush group there are photos of motorcycles simply space-tuned with all sorts of lotions, from super-expensive seats, tourist and sports glasses, luggage systems and on-board computers.


But alas, it’s impossible to buy everything and I decided to limit myself to original consumables (which turned out to be cheaper on ebay than in our stores) sliders in front wheel and because I’m already a fan of articulated knee pads, and everyone knows their ability to scratch the gas tank, I needed a gas tank bagster cover, which I got, albeit red, but at a ridiculous second-hand price. from the same ebay.
A little about motorcycle protection - after shoveling a mountain of information on the Internet, looking at photographs of the consequences of falls and still not finding a consensus on whether to put sliders on a thrush or not, I decided to limit myself to a slider in the front wheel, but I did not cling to the frame.


Most of the opinions boil down to the fact that a thrush without sliders tolerates falls better than with sliders, I think this was built constructively, with a good combination of circumstances, a fallen motorcycle can continue to move without breaking the engine cover, and the rear powerful muffler banks will act as protective sliders and change them on a one-sided bank, for this reason, it would not be desirable. In the future, I plan to purchase lever protection and carbon-kevlar engine covers. And in general, it’s reluctant to think about falls on such a motorcycle, these motorcycles are not for falls, but for riding, like golds and Valkyries, thrushes do not fall.)
And so, I smoothly approached the running characteristics. The first thing that catches your eye is the size of the motorcycle, it is huge, looking at it the first question arises - how to manage it?) But contrary to all fears, the motorcycle steers perfectly at any speed. Thanks to the plastic and the muffler spaced 70cm apart, the motorcycle looks very impressive, heavy engine sounds menacing, resonating from the walls of the garage and making its way to the very core. Surprisingly, the motorcycle can be friendly and the power of 164 horses is easily controlled, with a smooth effect on the throttle, if you ride calmly, the bike does not kick or kick, the behavior is predictable. But woe to you if you want to wake up the devil sleeping in the bowels of a hot engine, the speedometer needle instantly turns to 180 and 200, a few seconds and you are already flying faster than the wind, and regardless of the steepness of the ascent and its length. The motorcycle holds the road perfectly, the speed of 120 is not felt at all, just looking at the speedometer and seeing the number 160, you start to think - Oh, where am I flying to and why so fast? and immediately drop to 100-110, this is a very comfortable speed. I accelerated it to 250 as much as possible, it was scary and the straight line was running out, but it feels like the motorcycle still has a sufficient handle and gas reserve, I think that despite its age it will squeeze out about 300, however, on our shit roads such tricks without a steering damper are undesirable. The thrush perfectly enters into turns, falls sideways with the use of counter-steering with a bang. The dynamics are mesmerizing, the moto provokes, definitely, it is faster than any car, always pull yourself up. I recommend that you be very careful traffic situation, because the perception of speed on this bike is different from reality, it seems you are going normally, but there is already a lot on the speedometer. Do not forget that some citizens in canned food think very hard, for them your speed of 180 is beyond comprehension, they simply do not see you, looked in the mirror, cleanly, started maneuvering, and here you are already on your hyper-bike, in your best in case of breaking the pattern and refusing to maneuver, besides, these characters are doing extraneous things while driving, reading books, writing SMS and just chatting on the phone, all this must be taken into account when you have a cannonball between your legs with a frantic thrust and passing cars rush past you a little slower than oncoming ones. In the city, I generally try to drive no faster than traffic, precisely because 80% of them are shell-shocked in canned food. I am glad that the thrush, due to its size, is clearly visible to boxers on the road, from time to time some fall into a stupor and forget that they are driving along main road staring like a rabbit at a boa constrictor.
The fit is sporty, the low clip-ons say that well-developed back and hip muscles are needed, otherwise your shoulders and arms will quickly get tired. By the way, because of such a fit, it is inconvenient to ride in my leather jacket, it greatly hinders movement. Most people ride sport bikes leaning on their hands, which makes them stiff and all vibrations are transmitted through tense claws to the body and motorcycle, when riding a thrush, you should keep your body clasping the motorcycle with your legs and holding the weight of the body due to the back muscles, imagining that in your hands two pickled tomatoes) I confess that after the first couple of trips I felt like after going to the gym, but now everything is fine. The motorcycle allows you to cover long distances at high speed. There is an idea to install clip-ons from VFR800 in order to slightly raise the landing position, there should be no problems with cables and hoses, but this is in the future. The combined brake system works well, on a hard surface the motorcycle effectively slows down, but I still haven’t been able to fully understand this know-how, although I read how it works, I use both brakes out of habit, but there is a feeling of innuendo, misunderstanding of the process so to speak)). I noticed an interesting thing - on the primer near the garages, once I pressed it all the way rear brake and felt how the front wheel was blocked and a few centimeters went skidding, I didn’t really like it, I took note that it’s not advisable to do this. Still, it’s better when separate predictable brakes are at hand, without any innovations such as ABS and CBS, I’m calmer when it’s clear that you’re braking with the rear, but with the front, some kind of devil is sitting in a snuffbox right there and what comes into his head it is not clear)) I can not unambiguously attribute the brakes to either pluses or minuses.
Now a little about the fly in the ointment: The motorcycle is very wide, climbing on it in a narrow aisle is not very convenient, but there is little secret- if the mirror-ears get through, then everything else will also get through. I should note that no matter how I twisted my mirror ears, I never managed to set up a clear view that would suit me, an unpleasant fact - mirrors have dead zones, when rebuilding, you need to be careful, a car traveling in parallel disappears from view. The problem can be solved by spherical mirror stickers.
Before parking a motorcycle, you need to think over the ways of departure, for example, if you put the motorcycle unsuccessfully, say on a good slope, then it will be difficult for you to back away, the motorcycle is designed for tall people, with a height of 182 cm, it’s hard for me to squirm with it back and uncomfortable places, legs up to they get the ground, but pushing the carcass back is already difficult, especially in motorized boots that limit the mobility of the foot. The weight of the motorcycle is large, and I have concerns that the way the motorcycle is turned on the side stand can harm it.
U-turns in a limited space and at near-zero speeds are not his forte, you have to practice backhanging in order to turn around as short as possible, all the same, a sportbike layout, although of course everything comes with experience, it’s worth taking a look at how the Japanese control the thrush on a gymkhane, there is room to grow ... O_o! Z.s. our pits, by the way, would ruin the whole gymkhana for them)))


It’s not very convenient to store it in the garage, putting it along the wall, it’s not very convenient, the car doesn’t fit next to it, the muffler banks again interfere, you have to constantly turn the heavy bike, attaching it diagonally and this Tetris with the car is a little annoying ...
What about running characteristics- I noticed a not very pleasant feature - if at speed the front bounces on bumps, then the vibration is transmitted to the steering wheel and a kind of wobble is obtained that passes in a split second, but leaves an unpleasant aftertaste. Most likely, the installation of a steering damper will help solve the problem. In maintenance, the motorcycle is not to say that it is inconvenient, but it is longer than on road builders, almost any operation entails the removal of plastic, however, access to the same candles seemed to me easier than on Sibikha, of course, for this you have to remove the airbox, but this is done quite easily , the most difficult thing is to remove the muzzle, there is a risk of breaking the mounts that have authenticity and it is not so easy to find a replacement. Carburettors are easier to dismantle than anywhere else, again, issues related to mot maintenance are a matter of experience and getting hands on.


And now, the strongest minus for me - As I said, the motorcycle allows you to get from point A to point B in a matter of minutes, but it really depends on the quality of the roads. By and large, I can’t unleash the potential of this wonderful motorcycle, because it suddenly turned out that I simply had nowhere to go ... 15 minutes and I’m already somewhere near Nadezhdinsk from Vladivostok, and what’s next? in front of the track, behind the track, on the sides of the handrail, where to go next and why? I can’t leave the highway to see the surroundings and sights. outside of it, there are ubiquitous ugly shit roads, so for now I have to use the bird as some kind of attraction for teleportation in space, but this is not quite what I wanted ...
