Opel experts answer questions from ZR readers. Positive and negative sides of Opel mokka Opel mokka cons

Opel has never favored off-road vehicles, although there were models in the production range at different times. off-road. But mostly they were Isuzu clones adapted for European consumers, and the “Korean” Antara in later times. But sales were frankly sluggish, and even in Russia, Opel SUVs were not held in high esteem.

The “crossover boom” of the early 2000s was clearly ignored by the company. Antara came out only in 2006, when the absence of model range such a car has become simply indecent, and the shift in demand from minivans and station wagons to "city SUVs" is quite obvious. Therefore, the appearance in 2012 of the Opel Mokka can only be called a miracle.

By this time, in the company's lineup of "non-global" cars, there remained, made. All other models were produced in the USA and China under different brands and names. The company became very similar to the assembler, although as it turns out now, Opel remained the leading model developer. Their developments became "worldwide", including work to improve small-class motors. Be that as it may, out of all the wealth of GM models, Opel did not particularly fall for anything. The logical step would be to create something all-wheel drive based on Corsa D, good modular platform SCCS had such opportunities, but further cooperation with the Italians was curtailed: the costs were considered too high.

But here GM “became generous” and gave the Europeans the latest development based on the GM Gamma II / GM 4300 platform, on which the second generation Aveo had already been produced by that time. It was predicted that the same platform would become the basis for the new Corsa E. But the "new" Corsa E turned out to be just a deep restyling of the old one, and the Opel Mokka remained the only car on the market. new platform a special small class from GM. After the purchase of Opel by the French and the appearance of plans for "localization", most likely, the car does not have a great future.

In Russia, the new small crossover was taken with caution. Outwardly, it looked great, the interior delighted potential buyers, but it was small. And besides, the car turned out to be very expensive, much more expensive than the mega-popular Duster. Off-road capabilities were also in doubt: despite the optional all-wheel drive, the cars were not pleased with their cross-country ability. And this is not surprising: the ground clearance is only 190 mm according to the passport, but in practice only 156 mm is gained under the front bumper, and the clearance at the gas tank does not even reach 170 mm. drive clutch rear axle according to Asian tradition, it turned out to be purely electromagnetic, and therefore extremely weak. So any off-road trip threatened with serious losses.

Mokk has a very peculiar combination of engines and transmissions. WITH all-wheel drive"automatic" relied only on versions with a 1.8 liter engine, very expensive and not fast at the same time. But quite a frisky 1.4 Turbo automatic transmission issued only complete with front-wheel drive. Well, the basic version with an atmospheric 1.6-liter engine was never “delivered” to us: its release was postponed and postponed, and then Opel left the Russian market. The presence on sale of a certain number of cars with these engines, and even with automatic transmission, looks somewhat strange: officially, Opel knows nothing about such options.

On the picture: Opel Mokka Turbo 4×4" 2012–16

In terms of comfort, the small SUV was far behind the Astra J, didn’t really go off-road, cost a lot ... But, nevertheless, sales grew until the cars stopped supplying our market. Maybe Opel Mokka is still really good car?

Body

The cars are still quite new, so it’s too early to talk about some kind of dangerous corrosion. Today, only the edge of the hood can be at risk: here it is ordinary steel, and if you do not tint it in time, it rusts well. It is worth paying attention to the hidden attachment points of the plastic “body kit”, and the locations of the front clips in the front fender are especially affected. Swelling of paint suggests that in another five years you can expect decent local destruction. In the meantime, just wash the joints of plastic and metal from road sand more often.

Pay attention to cleaning the drains of the overhead niche: the water drain holes are small and easily clogged. All obvious traces of corrosion here, most likely, due to poor-quality repairs or lack thereof after minor accidents.

Windshield

original price

42 940 rubles

The exposed metal of the side parts begins to rust only a year or two after the damage to the paintwork, which provokes many to ignore such “kotska”. Moreover, for many, Mokka is a “jeep type”, and they willingly climb into the mud and forest paths on it, and this provokes the appearance of numerous damage. paintwork. Which is already thin and does not differ in particular durability. With a small clearance, at the same time, the internal cavities of the spars are heavily polluted, which also does not benefit the structure.

A very weak windshield is prone to cracking, but that's half the trouble. The price of the original ranges from 33,000 rubles to 45,000, which is somewhat high for a part of dubious quality. Fortunately, XYG and AGC have relatively inexpensive alternatives. And more recently, Mokka was a frequent guest in the workshops that make windshields to order. The price of a custom-made one is about 10 thousand rubles, and "China" was more expensive - apparently, with an eye on the price of the original.

Front bumper

original price

12 122 rubles

Bumpers are doing well, and even the price original parts not so shocking. But you need to be able to choose them: other versions cost under 50 thousand per element, and there are no Chinese analogues.

The optics are quite decent and inexpensive, but only without the AFL adaptive lighting system. The price of headlights from the last "bites", and the car is added headache in the form of body level sensors at a price of 6-8 thousand rubles.

Breakdowns of door handles are possible, and it is not the electronic filling that breaks, as is usually the case, but the mechanics. Especially often such troubles happen in cold weather, but strong and brave people the door handle can easily remain in the hands. For example, if they forgot to unlock the alarm.

In the photo: Opel Mokka "2012–16

Chrome plated tailgate and grille also not very durable. After several years of operation in Moscow, they must either be changed or covered with a film. Well, or paint "matte" - also a very popular solution. Appearance even benefits from this.

Unfortunately, the elements of suspensions and engine compartment fasteners rust completely ugly, so anti-corrosion measures are highly recommended for the car. Korean engineering is not the best suited for the European, and even more so Russian, winter. If you don’t want to spend too much on repairs, then take care of treating the bottom and all suspension elements with anti-corrosion compounds.

Salon

The interior of the car looks like a little fairy tale. Small is about size. A miracle did not happen: it is difficult to make a spacious interior in a cramped body. However, the front is quite comfortable, except that the "elbow feeling" is a bit in the way. But riding alone is generally excellent, just a car for an egoist, although there are five places.

Five people will really fit here, but if these people are large men with a height of eighty meters and a weight of one hundred kilograms, then it will be very bad for them here. Yes, and the machine will “stand on buffers”: moves rear suspension lacks. But five miniature young ladies with children will travel in comfort.

On the picture: Opel interior Mokka" 2012–16

But it’s beautiful here, and a lot of buttons, good finishing materials and excellent color displays of the multimedia system create the impression of “expensive-rich”. Ergonomics, though inferior to the Volkswagen, but still very good.

True, do not rely on premium silence. Here the panels creak a little, and there are plenty of sounds from the road: the car was deprived of sound insulation.

The quality of the interior is lame in places. For example, seats with “eco-leather” upholstery are already deformed at runs of less than 50 thousand, and under a light driver too. The skin of the back and pillow strives to tear. If the driver is noticeably larger than the average parameters, then damage to the seat frame is also possible.

The steering wheel is made somewhat better - in any case, it can easily withstand even one and a half hundred thousand mileage. The leather upholstery holds up perfectly, but the plastic on cheap trim levels gets greasy and is prone to scratches if handled carelessly.

Pictured: Interior of Opel Mokka Turbo 4x4" 2012–16

The gear lever on cars with manual transmission becomes loose over time, but fortunately, this defect does not require serious repair, it is enough to remove the top cover and tighten the mounting bolt.

Small risks are associated with the operation of the steering column switch block and malfunctions of the climate system.

Another trouble awaits from above - this is condensate from the roof that appears in winter. It accumulates in the ceiling lights and can suddenly "spill" on the legs of the driver and passenger.

In general, problems are rare and are often caused by extremely harsh treatment. Due to the age of the cars, no other defects appear, the interior equipment is holding up well.

Electrician

Electrical Opel equipment Mokka, unfortunately, even at this age can deliver a certain amount of trouble.

The generator resource often does not exceed 100-150 thousand kilometers, and this is not a very good indicator. The current collector brushes and bearings fail, more serious troubles are rare.

The charging system has a battery current sensor. Service specialists often do not put it in place, as a result of which the system operates in undercharging mode, and the battery life drops dramatically. The chances of staying in the winter with a dead battery in the car are quite high.

Front wheel ABS sensors and body level sensors on cars with AFL are also “consumables”, and level sensors are very expensive, and often fail with a mileage of less than 50 thousand. And non-original does not exist. So remember: any trip to deep puddles or along the branches can lead to failure of the part at a cost of 6-8 thousand rubles.

The ignition module for gasoline engines is another typical problem. Weak candle tips break through, and services usually do not bother with the selection of a repair kit and prescribe to change an expensive part. And the coils themselves fail after a run of 60 or more thousand kilometers. Most often because no one thinks to change candles. If you have 16,000 not superfluous, then do not forget to check the condition of the candles, install new ones if necessary and check the condition of the ignition module tips. And remember: any problems with the stability of the engine at idle, before a thorough diagnosis, should be attributed specifically to the problems of the ignition system.

This not too good picture will be completed by a low resource of radiator electric fans. Already after a hundred thousand there are backlashes, and after one and a half hundred thousand traffic jams, they almost certainly have a collapsing bearing.

In the photo: Opel Mokka "2012–16

As a result, it is impossible to say that the electrical system is absolutely reliable. Yes, and some design features can cause inconvenience. An example is the light sensor of the AFL system in the central rear-view mirror housing. The location of the DVR or radar detector with an angle of about 170 degrees from the sensor causes malfunctions in the adaptive lighting system, and this is where you want to place such devices.

The multimedia system and dashboard provoke some changes. dashboard they usually reflash to ensure the display of automatic transmission oil temperature and battery charge, for which they install firmware from Buick.

Brakes, suspension and steering

The braking system of the car at first glance is made with a good margin. In any case, the front 300-mm brake discs for such a compact car seem even redundant, and this is the key to low thermal loading of the calipers and a high resource of elements. But in practice, the brakes are frustrating with the squeaks of the pads, not very reliable performance mechanism hand brake and price of parts. If the brake pads are installed carefully, cleaning the surface of the cylinder and allowing the pad to be glued, with the correct installation of anti-creak plates, lubrication of the brake hoses, installation of new caps on them, lubrication of the caliper fingers, then special complaints brake system does not call. The disk resource is very good, more than a hundred thousand mileage, and the pads are moderate - up to 30-50 thousand.

In the photo: Opel Mokka "2012–16

The suspension of the car seems simple and cheap. But here comes the peculiarity latest models Opel: the levers are officially only supplied assembled, and the choice of silent blocks is very limited, and not the best brands. It's good that at least the ball joint changes separately.

The rear beam also has its own trick. On the all-wheel drive vehicles there is the same beam, but a slightly different shape. And its silent blocks also do not officially change, although the parts themselves even have catalog numbers. And here, too, it will not be possible to supply good quality parts.

Pictured: Opel Mokka Turbo 4x4" 2012–16

Fortunately, the resource of all suspension elements, except for ball bearings, stabilizer struts and shock absorbers, is quite decent, at least hundreds of thousands of kilometers.

Particular attention should be paid to ball bearings: after 30 thousand they can play great, but replacement is not expensive, and there are good non-original parts on sale.

Spherical bearing

original price

1 301 ruble

The resource of wheel bearings is just as small. Under warranty, the hubs were often changed even at lower mileage. The problem is using very heavy rubber with a long offset (for all meticulous readers - the numerical value of the offset in this case just decreases), and the car itself turned out to be heavy and powerful. And the suspension is designed for the mass of something like an Aveo with small wheels.

The steering of most cars with a 1.8 liter engine is with a conventional power steering. It works quite reliably if at least after 60-100 thousand mileage the fluid in the system is replaced. If not, the pump will remind you to replace the howl. In cold weather, you need to be extremely careful with taxiing: the liquid almost does not warm up, and the slats flow very easily.

Cars of the first years of production, all versions with a 1.4 liter engine, diesel engines and all imported European cars are equipped with electric power steering, which turned out to be somewhat more capricious. It does not have a very stable steering wheel position sensor, and the connectors on the power module itself are rather weak - they can burn out or simply heat up.

In the photo: Opel Mokka "2012–16

Let's summarize the preliminary results: there is nothing criminal in the Opel Mokka But it has not yet been found. Partly due to the relatively young age of these machines. Or maybe they were really good. To understand this issue will be, after detailed review all the advantages and disadvantages of motors and transmissions.

What is the reason for the difficulty in engaging the first and second gears of the F17 on a cold Astra H?

This is the normal operation of this unit. The design of synchronizers physically does not allow gears to be engaged with a large difference in shaft speeds in the box. This happens especially clearly when switching up to very high revs engine and down - under normal conditions.

In addition, we note the "strictness" of the clutch pedal, which is typical for many Opel models: Problems with shifting gears can occur if the gear is not fully depressed.

Comment ZR. The F17 manual is not young. Now it is being produced according to Opel's drawings by Aisin, which is serious about the quality of the oils poured into the units. Therefore, owners are advised not to experiment with non-recommended oils in the hope of improving the quality of shifting.

Why was there no recall campaign for Insignia with a 1.6 turbo engine due to problems with spark plugs?

The service campaign has been announced and is still in effect. Spark plugs from the original factory supplier had an electrode that fell off and remained in the cylinder, resulting in serious damage. Candle supplier changed.

The nature of the repair of a damaged motor depends on the specific case - the replacement of the unit completely or its individual parts. The work is done free of charge. On eligible vehicles, old-style spark plugs are replaced with new ones. This campaign also extends to Egypt, Turkey and other countries where there are high temperatures. And only for Russia, it also included an update of the firmware of the motor control unit in order to ensure that conditions leading to the destruction of the spark plug electrode are excluded.

What causes it to collapse piston group on supercharged engines 1.4?

Yes, there is an instruction number 2130. It is recommended to lubricate the splines of the input shaft of the box, along which they move release bearing and clutch disc. Note that problems with gear shifting can also arise due to operational reasons not related to those described above.

The owner needs to contact the dealer and our customer support center - we will tell you if this bulletin applies to a particular vehicle. Free repair(removing the box and lubricating the splines) is carried out only on vehicles with valid warranty. Otherwise, the repair will be paid.

How to solve the problem with vibrations on the body of Astra H cars with 1.6 and 1.8 engines? Will there be a gear upgrade and solenoid valves timing systems? Why was there no recall campaign to replace the air conditioning recirculation damper?

Usually vibrations are associated with malfunctions of the engine or its mounts. Most often, soot on candles and problems with ignition coils are to blame. Less commonly, we encounter clogged fuel injectors.

Installing a damper on the right drive, which many owners hope for, will not get rid of vibrations. It is designed to solve the problem with different lengths of drives and the resulting asymmetry of traction during acceleration and deceleration, but nothing more.

The timing variators and valves were modernized about five years ago and have not caused problems in recent years. Old-style parts have long been out of stock.

The recirculation damper replacement campaign lasted from 2008 to 2010. Old-style parts with a short axle were changed free of charge to modified ones with a long one. The updated nodes arrived on the conveyor in the fall of 2008, and they began to be installed in the services in the spring of the same year. Those who did not have time to carry out repairs as part of the action will have to do it at their own expense.

How to solve problems with a quick failure of seat heating, a knock on the rear brake pads and leakage of the thermostat housing on Astra cars J?

All of the above nodes have already been upgraded. Since August 2014, the seat heating conductors have been changed (they are different, depending on the type of upholstery). On older vehicles, the dealer will replace the failed heater with a new one under warranty. Changes to the rear brakes were made in 2013. They touched mainly on the brackets of the caliper brackets. In the same year, a technical bulletin for dealers was published on the elimination of knocks in old-style nodes.

The thermostat consists of two half-shells: the rear one is metal, and the front one is made of plastic. Contrary to rumors, the same assembly is put on cars Opel Astra J and Chevrolet Cruze with atmospheric engines 1.6. The plastic part lacked rigidity. It has recently been modified along with the gasket of the half-hulls. Depending on the specific case, the dealer changes only the gasket or installs updated parts instead of both.

When will the promised applications for the IntelliLink multimedia system be available? How does the manufacturer solve problems in the system? When will the latest software updates be available?

We're sorry, but there will be no new applications for the current generation of IntelliLink. Work stopped: additional functions require a lot of resources, and this would affect the operation of the main systems. The next generation of the IntelliLink system that we are currently developing has enough performance to enable new applications to emerge.

We have already made some updates to the software. If the system malfunctions after modification, please contact your dealer and our customer support center. The next update is scheduled for March-April this year. But, unlike the previous ones, it will be irreversible (“rollback” is impossible). Therefore, machine owners will be asked to review the list of changes before making a decision.

What causes oil cooler pipes to flow on Astra J and Zafira C machines?

Leaks are due to the material of the tubes, which does not withstand long-term exposure to very low temperatures. Opel has announced a service campaign 14‑P‑036. It provides for free replacement of tubes with modified ones, made of more frost-resistant and elastic material.

The campaign covers cars from 2010-2014, so it is divided into several stages. The promotion is valid only for Russia - in other countries there are no problems with such leaks.

What is the reason for the strong vibration when stopping at a traffic light in position D of the selector automatic box? Why do jerks and jerks occur when shifting gears?

Most often, vibration is associated with the inclusion of a software "neutral" (PN). This can be checked by moving the selector to manual shift mode: the vibration should decrease. Otherwise, the motor or its mounts are faulty.

The PN function causes the torque converter to rotate passively: the engine-box pair is disconnected. This is done for the sake of the environment. In motors with an automatic flywheel, the flywheel is much less massive than on machines with a manual gearbox. Therefore, it plays its role as a vibration damper. Software "neutral", in fact, turns it off - and the vibrations increase. On naturally aspirated 1.6 engines, this problem was very common and was overcome by a software change. Similar cases with 1.4 turbo engines are rare, so the manufacturer is still looking for solutions.

Shocks and jerks when shifting gears have a lot of reasons. For example, at very low or high ambient temperatures, this behavior of the automatic transmission indicates a temperature adaptation mode. The control program is trying to protect the box. Gearshifts occur at increased oil pressure, at higher engine speeds or as quickly as possible to avoid clutch slippage. Together, this creates a sensation of impact.

Another reason is the adaptation of switching when the driver changes the driving style (an active driver replaced a calm one; after a uniform movement along the highway, the car drove into a stormy metropolis). However, jerks should stop after a couple of clicks on the gas pedal.

Of course, malfunctions can also be the cause of jerks - from low oil levels to worn clutches. Our "automatic machines" provide adaptation for wear, but it will smooth out shocks only up to a certain threshold.

Comment ZR. Opel is one of the few manufacturers that recommend periodic oil changes in "automatic machines". During normal operation under normal conditions, the Germans advise changing the fluid in the GF6 box (on most cars with a gasoline engine) at a range of 80,000–100,000 km, and in difficult conditions, twice as often. The intervals for the AF40 unit (on diesel engines) are 120,000–140,000 km and 70,000–75,000 km, respectively. It is imperative to change the oil even after a slight overheating of the unit - it quickly degrades! Some of these recommendations are spelled out in the maintenance regulations.

Who produces original oils GM? Is the GM dexos2 product fully synthetic?

Oils for us are produced by several American and European suppliers, including Mobil and Fuchs.

GM dexos2 is not a specific product, but a quality tolerance. It can be assigned to an oil on any basis, as long as the requirements of the standard are met.

Why doesn't the Astra H have hood soundproofing? For what reason is the metal protection of the engine not solid and does not cover the generator from dirt?

Instead of the usual “quilted jacket” of sound insulation, this car uses a special inner hood panel. It is made almost solid and has dome-shaped stampings, which act as an acoustic reflector and diffuser. This is quite enough for cars with gasoline engines. Diesel modifications, in addition, have the usual soundproofing. It is available for order and, if desired, it can be installed on the hood of gasoline cars. For this, only pistons will be needed.

When designing a factory crankcase, any manufacturer first of all thinks about a compromise between the physical protection of the units and their adequate cooling. In fact, this element is not designed to protect against dirt.

The installation of continuous (non-factory) protection seriously violates the thermal regime in engine compartment. This can lead to overheating of the units. This became especially important with the advent of modern motors and gearboxes, which are already seriously thermally loaded. Do not forget about the change in the power structure of the car body. Unlike non-standard protections, factory ones are tested in crash tests.

Will there be updates to navigation maps?

The list of update numbers, when they appear, is published on our website (www.opel.ru) in the accessories section. You can purchase and install them through official Opel dealers. Updates are installed at will and at the expense of the client. Note that many other manufacturers have a similar policy. Of course, you can include the cost of all future updates immediately in the price of this option, but this approach is more typical for the premium segment.

Why does the F17 CR (Astra H Caravan) box have a very “short” fifth gear?

Gear ratios are selected to obtain optimal vehicle performance, and this is always a compromise. Caravan has a big difference between curb and gross weight(empty and loaded). Therefore, in order to obtain acceptable traction-speed dynamics, “shortened” gears were used, which are just encrypted in the “CR” index.

What does the term "automatic transmission ranking" mean on Opel Antara and Chevrolet Captiva cars?

This term, in our opinion, was born on the forums of the owners due to an incorrect interpretation of the service documentation. It has nothing to do with automatic transmission.

In some dealerships, when servicing cars, they write out a larger amount of engine oilthan is required in reality. Is it possible to somehow influence this situation?

In the production of automobiles, modernization and design improvements are constantly going on. The information in the owner's manual also changes. Therefore, it is possible that the amount of oil prescribed may not correspond to a particular vehicle. However, the differences usually do not exceed 200-300 ml.

The owner of the machine can ask for admission to the repair area at the time of filling the oil or any other operation of interest. If a clearly overestimated volume of liquid is written out for a car (more than 0.5 liters for 4-cylinder engines), then contact our customer support center or demand that the underfilled package of oil be put in the trunk.

Why does General Motors CIS LLC not dictate the cost and technical regulation THEN? When will the information on the lists of maintenance work be made publicly available?

Maintenance price standards are not rigidly fixed, as this contradicts the antimonopoly legislation of the Russian Federation and does not reflect the economic situation in different regions of the country. Dealership- an independent retailer and therefore can set prices that he considers reasonable. Since 2015, GM has been posting average retail prices for spare parts on its website (www.opel.ru) to help owners better navigate the market. However, it should be noted that, according to the requirements of the Federal Antimonopoly Service, the importer does not have the right to dictate its pricing policy to dealers, and any attempt to impose prices by force can be considered as collusion.

Maintenance regulations (list of works) are available from any dealer, and can also be requested from our customer support center. And we will definitely think about posting this information on the site.

We dictate technical maintenance regulations to dealers. Since 2011, Opel has changed it every six months. Always ask the dealer for a printout of the current regulations.

Customer Support Center "General Motors CIS": 8-800-700-13-65, ss [email protected] Contact with any problems at the dealer level. Previously, specialists from Volkswagen, Ford, Subaru, Renault answered questions from car owners - readers of ZR.

I’ll write right away: I practically don’t understand cars, I can’t even change the oil myself, so I won’t use automotive terms and slang phrases, because I just don’t know them. I have always driven cars: Honda Civic, Ford Focus, Audi A6. I live in the private sector, and every autumn I have to overcome a broken road with numerous pits. And recently, after heavy rains, I wade and slurry from clay (a couple of years ago they laid a sewer here). But when winter comes and cars lay a track, which freezes after rain, it becomes very difficult to leave. For this reason, my wife and I began to think about buying a crossover.

Considered models such as Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Kia Sportage and Ford Kuga. The car was looking for a new, not used. The last two options "fell off" because of the price. Initially stopped at new Duster. But somehow by chance I came across the news about the accident in which the Renault Duster got into and formed like a house of cards, while the second car did not suffer much. This made me think about safety, and my wife was not attracted to the boring appearance of a crossover from Renault.

Calculating the budget, gritting his teeth, still decided to look for a little used. After two months of active searches in Moscow turned up Opel Mokka.

The car has been sold official dealer under the trade-in program. Upon inspection, it turned out that the car was not beaten, there are small scratches on the bumpers and mirrors, the interior is clean. Condition pleased - decided to buy.

So, what we got: a 2013 car with a mileage of only 43,000 km, with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine and a manual transmission. The package includes: climate control, heated front seats, steering wheel (for the first time I came across this wonderful marvel, but, as I remember the winter and driving with gloves, I think that this option will appeal to you), power windows for all doors, cruise control, radio CD/MP3 with AUX input, fog lights, alloy wheels R18, cruise control and steering wheel radio, alarm, engine protection.

Body gray color. Immediately a little disappointed with the front bumper: it is low, almost like in the usual passenger car, but there is a protection in the form of a rubber lining. Nevertheless, it is better not to drive up close to high curbs. Distance from ground to rear bumper is 19 cm. The wipers do not fully rise, the hood interferes - this is a minus.

Salon is very comfortable for those sitting in front. Plastic is pleasant to the touch, not like in Duster. There are a lot of buttons on the center console, but it's not difficult to figure them out. Silver inserts look great. The neon lights are insane.

The monochrome monitor located in the center displays the name of the radio station, sound level, temperature and other data. The driver sits high, visibility is good. When parking, you don’t have to look in the interior mirror, it doesn’t help much: the rear window is small, even in the Ford Focus it was larger, so I’m guided by the side mirrors. The sound of the radio is good, six speakers. There are a lot of glove compartments and compartments. There is a drawer under the passenger seat. The steering wheel is height and reach adjustable. It is pleasant to the touch and lined with leather. The armrest is not the most comfortable and interferes with gear changes at first, but I got used to it, although in a pinch it can be raised.

Seats in the back - for two, the three of us will be already cramped. The trunk turned out to be small: I tried to load a children's tricycle into it - it was not possible. Even a folded baby stroller could only fit after I unhooked and removed the lid in the side shelf of the trunk. Backseat folds into a flat floor. Noise isolation is average. I drove an Audi A6 in 2009 for six months - I didn’t notice a difference in noise level between these cars, but compared to the Focus it feels good.

"I really want to see an article about Opel Mokka, its petrol and diesel versions, transmission..."

Opel Mokka has been produced since 2012; in the summer of 2015, SKD assembly was established at the enterprise. What is this car, we already. But, apparently, our reader is already interested in Mokka as a second-hand object, and here the main issues are reliability, maintainability, and so on.

Start with the fact that german crossover not so German: it is based on the Gamma II platform, which was developed by the engineers of the South Korean division of GM DAT, so among the closest "relatives" is Chevrolet Aveo. And, of course, Mokka is seriously unified with other models of the GM concern, so the motors and gearboxes used are already well known to specialists.

It is curious that the good old "aspirated" 1.6 (A / Z16XER) with a capacity of 115 hp became the base for the European version, which can be considered a good option in terms of reliability, maintainability and maintenance / repair costs. But it is even more surprising that this version is practically not found in our region, and all because another "veteran" was offered for the Russian market - a 1.8-liter 140-horsepower engine (A / Z18XER). For the relatively heavy Mokka, this option is even better in terms of power and torque. Although in terms of reliability, it is by no means without sin: a short-lived ignition module, failing sensors, and the current thermostat will not let the owner of the used car relax. In addition, the engine is sensitive to quality engine oil and timing of replacement. Savings can result in the failure of the phase shifters, and in the worst case scenario, the occurrence of piston rings will turn into an oil burner.

An alternative to the "aspirated" is a 1.4-liter turbo engine (A / B14NET) of the same power, but with noticeably more torque (200 Nm versus 178). You can consider buying it, but when you find out the service history of a car that has just left the first owner and branded service, which means that its "biography" can be documented. It is known that Russian owners of Opel with such an engine faced a lack of compression in one of the cylinders due to the destruction of the partitions in the piston due to detonation.

It is still difficult to say how widespread this problem is and what exactly it is caused by, the use of low-quality fuel, a violation of operating rules, or a design flaw in hardware or software, but such stories are at least a reason to approach the diagnosis of the car you are buying as responsibly as possible. By the way, last year the updated Mokka X received new version 1.4t with direct injection and increased to 152 hp. power, but operating experience this engine not yet accumulated.

The same can be said about the all-aluminum "whispering diesel" 1.6 CDTI (B 16 DTH) with a capacity of 110 and 136 hp, which has been installed on Mokka only since 2015. It got its name because of the low level of noise and vibration, although it is also distinguished by the low declared fuel consumption - an average of 4.1 l / 100 km. But now it is unlikely that anyone will take from Europe a 136-horsepower engine with urea injection, "sharpened" for Euro-6 standards ... Against this background, a 130-horsepower 1.7 CDTI (A 17 DTS) seems to be not so complicated and whimsical, although on well-traveled cars, you may encounter leaky seals, "whims" fuel system and EGR failures.

Atmospheric engines are equipped with a 5-speed "mechanics" D16. In fact, this is a derivative of the old and quite reliable F16 box. More powerful versions rely on a 6-speed M32 box, designed for more torque. Both options can be considered successful and resourceful. However, an aggressive driving style loads the differential and bearings, which can result in a problem by 200,000 km (which in itself is a good indicator). But the clarity of the scenes will decrease with half the mileage.

The 6-speed "automatic" 6T40 developed by GM is not so hardy. Its early versions were considered problematic at all, but by the time Mokka entered the market, thanks to numerous upgrades, weak points (valve block, torque converter, problems with overheating) had been tightened up. However, it is still better to give preference to copies that were released no earlier than 2014, carefully test the selected option before buying, and during operation avoid serious loads on the box, prevent it from overheating and change the oil and filter at least 50 thousand km.

But the all-wheel drive transmission is not to be feared: the Borg Warner electronically controlled multi-plate clutch is quite reliable. Yes, and there is nowhere to “load” it: Mokka, with its “parquet” ground clearance and low-hanging bumper, is not accustomed to even light off-road conditions. Perhaps this is for the best: the easier it is for the transmission and chassis to “live”.

The suspension is structurally simple: front - McPherson, rear - semi-independent suspension with a beam, and on all-wheel drive versions too! Another interesting nuance: the classic power steering is installed on the version with the 1.8 engine, while the rest are electric.

In general, if we start purely from issues of reliability, maintainability and maintenance costs, it is better to give preference gasoline engine 1.8 and manual transmission. But you should not be afraid of the 1.4 turbo engine, as well as the 1.7 CDTI turbodiesel. The main thing is to choose an inspected copy. So the main risk factor is "automatic", and the new turbodiesel with AdBlue is too complicated for our realities.

Recalls Campaigns

Mokka was recalled twice in Russia. The first campaign concerned cars sold in the Russian Federation from August 20, 2012 to December 19, 2014, in total 10,994 copies. Due to a possible defect in the front seat belt pretensioners, there was a risk that the body would not be securely secured at the time of the collision. The second recall included 122 vehicles sold in the Russian Federation from April to September 2013, in which, due to a loose fastening nut, there was a risk of overheating of the wiring.

Price pulse

As the analysis of offers shows, the market is dominated by petrol versions of Opel Mokka 2013-2015. with engines 1.8 and 1.4, as a rule, with front-wheel drive, every second - with an "automatic". Price range - from $12,000 to $17,000, the average price tag is around $15,000.

Let's start with the fact that the German crossover is not so German: it is based on the Gamma II platform, which was developed by the engineers of the South Korean division of GM DAT, so Chevrolet Aveo is among the closest "relatives". And, of course, Mokka is seriously unified with other GM models, so the engines and gearboxes used are already well known to specialists.

It is curious that the good old "aspirated" 1.6 (A / Z16XER) with a capacity of 115 hp became the base for the European version, which can be considered a good option in terms of reliability, maintainability and maintenance / repair costs. But it is even more surprising that this version is practically not found in our region, and all because another “veteran” was offered for the Russian market - a 1.8-liter 140-horsepower engine (A / Z18XER). For the relatively heavy Mokka, this option is even better in terms of power and torque. Although in terms of reliability, it is by no means without sin: a short-lived ignition module, failing sensors, and the current thermostat will not let the owner of the used car relax. In addition, the engine is sensitive to the quality of the engine oil and the timing of its replacement.
