The best summer tires. R17 summer tire comparison, test The best r17 summer tires of the year

The peculiarity of this test is that, unlike the assessment of tire performance in terms of comparing their grip limits, wear resistance, hydroplaning resistance, etc., it primarily takes into account parameters that play a key role, for example, for the fleet owner cars, thinking about the profitability of their business and the convenience of customers.

Firstly, this is the cost of tires, since in the case of personal use of a car, rubber can last for years at correct operation and storage, but in commercial vehicles they wear out faster from frequent use and, of course, not always careful driving style.

Second, fuel efficiency is important because a small percentage of what is spent on fuel for commercial use becomes a significant cost-cutting factor.

Thirdly, this is safety, but not for reasons of caring for staff and customers, which, of course, are in the first place, but to prevent the costs that arise when the car is being repaired.

Fourth, noise and comfort indicators close the list of characteristics. It should be noted that, just by looking at the Euro label, it is difficult to determine what noise level will be exactly in the car, since the data on it characterize external noise.

Judging by the criteria chosen by the experts, it can be said that to a certain extent the test is not comprehensive, although it was carried out using a fairly accurate methodology.

Carrying out a tire test

In this version tire tests a unique technique is used, customized for the commercial use of the car. The organizers focused on the areas that have the greatest impact on the business, combined with those that are most likely to require tire performance to the limit.

As in 2014, the tests were carried out at the Contidrom test site, which is one of the best in the world, which allows you to control the tests and carry them out as much as possible equally for all tires. The size chosen was 225/55 R17, standard for the Audi A6 S-line, which was used for the comfort test. Tire speed indices were W (up to 269 km/h) and Y (up to 298 km/h).

The tests were divided into safety, comfort and economy testing.

Braking

Even the most experienced driver can be caught off guard in wet weather when traffic stops abruptly. This emergency braking tried to simulate the organizers of the test. The Audi A4 was used on a rail track with a special beam bolted to the car's front bumper that controlled it to keep the same course. This was done so that in each case there was the same section of asphalt under the wheels of the car. The car accelerated to 80 km / h, then braked at the same point, starting the anti-lock system. The GPS determined the distance traveled since the start of braking. The result was considered the average of several races.

aquaplaning

Braking tests were conducted in shallow water, but water depths up to 9 mm were used to determine hydroplaning resistance. Two tests were carried out - measurements of longitudinal hydroplaning and transverse. In both cases, a point was determined at which the tread could no longer drive water out of the contact patch. For the first test, a rail track was also used again, but one tire moved along the watered area. The car accelerated along the rail and the sensors recorded the speed of rotation of the wheels, as well as the moment at which the speed of rotation of the “wet” wheel was 15% higher than the speed of rotation of the “dry” one. Control is lost at this point. The result was considered the average of several races.

In the second test, the efficiency of water withdrawal was determined in cases where the drainage channels are deformed when turning. The car moved along an asphalt circle 60 meters long, gradually increasing speed. The accelerometer measured lateral acceleration until traction was completely lost. The higher the speed at which this occurs, the better the tire.

In addition, an additional test was added, a turn on a wet surface. It measured the sheer lateral grip that the tires are capable of delivering. The water level is similar to braking tests. The car was driven close to the inner curb and accelerated until it was no longer possible to maintain the required course. This was repeated about 10 times, and the result was calculated based on the average lap time.

Comfort

The level of comfort was determined in two ways: objectively, using a sound meter, and subjectively, in the front and rear seats. The noise level was measured on smooth and rough asphalt, as well as on concrete pavement. Audi A6 with publisher Marc Bursa in the back seat, armed with a sound meter, drove on different types of surface at a speed of 80 km / h, switched to neutral and turned off the engine. The average of all indicators on different surfaces, as well as when moving in the opposite direction, formed the final result. Ride comfort was assessed on the same route, as well as on different types of terrain throughout the test site, including concrete slabs, paving stones and manholes, at speeds between 80 and 112 km/h.

Economy

Fuel consumption was measured using industry standard rolling resistance measurement, which means running a loaded tire at different speeds and for different durations. The averages of the two tires were taken as the final result.

Tire test results

None of the three categories was given greater preference. In each sector, the indicators of all tests were added up. In order to prevent strong jumps in results in cases where the performance of the races differed too much, the test became more complicated, and factors affecting objectivity were excluded. In the evaluation of economy, the emphasis was on rolling resistance. The winner of each test received a 100 percent rating, while the scores of the remaining tires were determined based on it.

In the online store and tire hypermarkets "Koleso" you can always choose and buy tires that have optimal balance quality and price.

In this article, we will get acquainted with the types of automotive rubber and the features of choosing tires. For those who are faced with the choice of tires, a list of models that are leaders among consumer preferences will be useful. Thanks to our rating, it will be more convenient for you to decide what to put on your car in the summer.

Having understood the types of automotive rubber and marking features, in this material we will pay due attention to the choice summer tires. And the list of recommended tire models for the summer period will help our readers decide on the model for their vehicle.

Useful qualities of summer tires:

  • ensuring grip with the road due to the rigidity of the tread;
  • the chemical composition of summer tires allows you to withstand high temperatures and maintain a given trajectory on the road;
  • wear resistance to friction on hard coatings;
  • lack of aquaplaning when driving through puddles after rain.

Advantages in the summer become disadvantages in the winter: adapted to work at high temperatures, at low temperatures, the rubber becomes “tanned”, becomes less elastic and copes with its tasks much worse. The tread is also designed only to "work" with water, at most - mud or sand - but not snow and ice, which clogs the tread pattern and thus does not provide traction. Therefore, with significant differences between winter and summer (serious "minuses" in the first case), manufacturers recommend having a kit exclusively winter tires( or ). "Universal" all season tires can only be recommended for regions with very mild winter- yet manufacturers have not yet found a compromise for absolutely any weather and road conditions.

1) Consider the amount of vehicle use and the types of surfaces/grounds that the tires will come into contact with. For example, if you constantly use your vehicle on bumpy roads, it makes sense to look for tires with a strong sidewall.

2) Non-directional (symmetrical) tread pattern - for dry and hot summers. The directional tread pattern wicks water away from under the wheel better, so if summers are rainy in your area, buy these tires. The tread pattern on different wheels should not differ - they talk about this even in a driving school, we also recall.

3) Pay attention to the speed index. Do not buy tires with a speed index higher than your car is capable of developing - you need to overpay for a high index, because certain technological solutions. What's the point of paying more?

  • stack (with disks),
  • vertically (without disks).

5) With a relatively quiet ride, summer tires can be used for about 4 seasons - but you need to pay attention not to the number of seasons, but to the current state of the tread.

    conclusions

When choosing tires for a car, always proceed not only from the cost, but from your plans for using this rubber. Even with a long driving experience, be careful experimenting with "all season". "Shoe" your car in new tires, try driving in various (controlled) conditions, check how the vehicle behaves on wet roads and under heavy braking. Don't forget the obligatory break-in new rubber: 200-300 first kilometers should not be subjected to excessive loads.

For cars and crossovers in the city, the above models perform well Toyo Proxes CF2 SUV, Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 and BFGoodrich g-Grip . Outside the city, including on a country road, you will not be let down MICHELIN CrossClimate+. Her "relatives" are summer tires Michelin Primacy 3- recommended by motorists as a highway option.

For SUVs in the city, including on broken roads, it is worth considering Bridgestone Alenza 001 and Yokohama Geolandar SUV G055. Fans of active trips out of town on a dirt road in all weather conditions should pay attention to the models Toyo Open Country A/T, Continental ContiCrossContact LX2, Tigar Suv Summer.

We also want to pay attention to one nuance of the article: some models have a high speed index in their characteristics, but the shortcomings indicate “not for high speeds”: first of all, we are talking about acoustic comfort, and secondly, about those design nuances that indicated by buyers of a particular model.

Good luck buying the right tires!

And, of course, all rubber needs to be pumped up: follow the link to our selection for different tastes, colors and wallets.

    Bridgestone Alenza 001

The premium performance tire is designed for SUVs and is OE approved by a number of leading premium car manufacturers. The rounded edges of the tread pattern and the design, which provides increased pressure in the contact patch with the road, contribute to the high performance of the tire on wet roads. The Alenza 001 model also demonstrates high performance on dry surfaces. The Nano PRO-TECH TM technology, which provides an even distribution of silica molecules in the rubber compound, reduces the temperature load of the tire while driving, which improves fuel efficiency. In addition, the molecular bonds between silica and polymer are significantly strengthened, which prolongs the life of the tire.

    Bridgestone Dueler A/T 001

Balanced summer tire for motorists who spend most of their time on the road, but also operate the car off-road. Optimized block stiffness keeps the tire balanced on different types of road surfaces, while a new rubber compound improves tire life. It is also important that in Dueler A / T 001 the original design of the walls of the tread blocks, which have a different angle of inclination, significantly reduces the noise level.

Compared to its predecessor, this latest generation eco-friendly passenger tire has even lower rolling resistance. In addition, grip on wet roads has been improved: this is largely facilitated by the optimized shape of the tread blocks, which ensures even pressure distribution in the contact patch with the road. The original shape of the edges of the tread blocks prevents their deformation, providing a flatter contact patch and improving braking performance. The large depth of the lugs allows you to last as long as possible performance characteristics tires, extending their service life.

The debut of this tire German concern took place last year, but this summer season she received 42 new sizes, the total number of which reached 120 in the range of bore diameters from 16 to 22 inches. Such a line satisfies the needs of owners of middle-class cars and SUVs. The tire features an asymmetric micro-block tread pattern with interlocking long shoulder blocks that provide high lateral support in fast corners. The wear-resistant rubber compound with the addition of amorphous silica contributes to increased tire grip on wet and dry asphalt surfaces, high wear resistance and reduced rolling resistance. In the new season, the model for the first time received proprietary ContiSilent noise reduction technology, which is used in five sizes. It is a layer of foamed polyurethane glued to the inner surface of the tire from the tread side. The foam effectively absorbs sound vibrations that are transmitted to the rim and then to the suspension and body parts, reducing the noise level by about 9 dB. In addition, certain standard sizes of the PremiumContact 6 model received official homologation for the new season from such manufacturers as Audi, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo.

This season Cordiant brings to the market its novelty - the Comfort 2 model, which uses technical compilations of previous Comfort and Road runner models with the introduction of new technologies. So the Flex-Cor technology ( asymmetrical pattern tread and the method of alternating its elements, elastic sidewall, new material carcass cord) provides acoustic and dynamic comfort even when driving on poorly paved roads. Dry-Cor technology (a new profile that has increased outside diameter and tire width to optimize the contact patch, as well as original design center and outer tread) contributes to a high level of directional stability and stability when cornering, and reduces rolling resistance. Wet-Cor technology (original drainage system the central and lateral parts of the tread, a new rubber compound with an increased content of silica) helps to significantly push back the threshold for the onset of hydroplaning and increase traction on wet road surfaces. The range of tires includes 15 sizes with landing diameters from 15 to 18 inches, with seven of them focused on SUVs. In the future, the range of standard sizes will increase.

A tire with improved durability, comfort and handling control on wet and dry surfaces. The modified polymer used in the tread rubber compound reduces the degree of heating of the material, while maintaining its rigidity and elasticity. Reduced rolling resistance contributes to more. Three wide longitudinal grooves and narrow slots provide optimal moisture removal from the contact patch. The variable stiffness of the tread allows you to optimize the pressure in the contact patch of the tire with the road, redistributing the load between the central and shoulder areas. Compared to the Dunlop SP Touring T1, this tire has excellent dry handling, hydroplaning and rolling resistance. The tire is presented in six standard sizes with landing diameters from 13 to 15 inches.

The Firestone brand's new crossover and SUV product is characterized by reduced noise levels, improved handling and braking performance in all weather conditions. The improvement of these characteristics provides an innovative tread pattern. The narrow central groove not only helps to effectively drain water from the contact patch, but also increases the rigidity of the central tracks. The combination of blocks of different shapes prevents the occurrence of resonance, which increases the acoustic comfort of the tire. The original shape of the shoulder edges enhances grip when cornering, and the diagonal notches in the central part of the tread contribute to increased wear resistance.

The tire is developed by the European division of the Giti Tire company and is intended for powerful cars of a premium class. The design challenge was to provide a high level of traction transfer, fast steering responses and control on wet and dry road surfaces. Handling and effective grip contributes to the original profile of the tire. Wide longitudinal tread grooves and specially shaped sipes provide shorter braking distances on wet and dry surfaces and significantly reduce the likelihood of aquaplaning. Stiff tread blocks help achieve optimum cornering performance and quick steering response. The tire's high mileage is ensured by a new formulation of the tread rubber compound. According to the European tire labeling system, this model line class B for wet grip and classes B-C in rolling resistance. The tire is presented in 37 standard sizes with landing diameters from 16 to 19 inches.

The new flagship ultra-high performance SUV tire features reduced rolling resistance and features a new tread compound, special wide grooves and original tread block design. The applied innovations have made it possible to achieve shorter braking distances on dry and wet surfaces, improve grip on wet roads and increase resistance to aquaplaning, while increased rigidity of the blocks has increased control accuracy. The tire is presented in seven sizes with landing diameters of 18 and 19 inches and with speed indices V and W.

The new all-round comfort tire combines long life, responsive handling and fuel efficiency for C and D segment vehicles. Wide grooves, sipe edges and tread blocks effectively evacuate water from the tire's contact patch to the road, contributing to tire performance. on wet surfaces. Special composition The tread rubber compound provides reduced heat generation during tire movement and improves rolling resistance. Besides dynamic characteristics, the tire has high comfort characteristics. The innovative profile contributes to a smooth ride, and the variable pitch of the tread blocks provides acoustic comfort. This season the tire is offered in 41 sizes - from 175/65R15 to 225/50ZR17 and speed indexes from T to W.

Developed at the company's research and development center in Hannover, the tire for confident city driving is adorned with the silhouette of Cologne, a testament to its European origins. FE1 City is characterized by durability and confident handling on wet and dry surfaces and is focused on cars of classes A»C. Its main features include a reinforced structure that protects against damage from contact with potholes, curbs and artificial bumps, as well as a new rubber compound that improves potential mileage and facilitates maneuvering, braking and accelerating at low and medium speeds. The tire is presented in 16 sizes with landing diameters from 13 to 16 inches and speed indices H, T and V.

The flagship Ventus S1 evo 2 has a high level of comfort and safety and fuel efficiency. When developing tires, emphasis was also placed on reliable handling, braking on dry and wet surfaces, road holding and low noise levels. In addition, Hankook engineers have been able to significantly reduce the rolling resistance coefficient. The use of a state-of-the-art compound containing a mixture of polystyrene and silicon oxide has made it possible to optimize the grip of the tires on wet roads and at the same time increase their environmental friendliness. The state-of-the-art technology of the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 2 SUV with multi-radius tread and a two-layer viscose carcass provides SUV class vehicles with a high level of grip due to an optimal contact patch in all road conditions. By increasing the mixing time of the components of the rubber compound at low temperatures, molecular bonds and the uniformity of the distribution of carbon black and rubber molecules have improved. The result was a reduction in the heat generated in the tires during driving, which had a positive effect on reducing rolling resistance and increased tire wear resistance. The new polystyrene compound also significantly increases the tire's grip on the road surface, resulting in superior braking and traction performance on wet roads.

When creating the V12 evo 2, sustainability was one of the key factors. The 3D tread blocks feature the directional design already known from previous models, which has been redesigned for improved water evacuation. The multi-radius tread made using racing technology, combined with an extremely stiff, yet extremely light steel cord, provides an optimal shape of the tire's contact patch on the ground under extreme loads, such as high-speed cornering. Thanks to the use of nanoparticles of silicon oxide in the composition of the rubber compound, in combination with the optimization of block stiffness across the entire tread width, the braking distance on wet and dry surfaces was reduced by 5% compared to the previous model. The use of styrenic polymers in the rubber compound provides improved wet performance with reduced rolling resistance, which improves fuel efficiency. The cooling system with additional ribs at the base of the tread grooves provides accelerated heat dissipation for improved handling characteristics and increased tire wear resistance. To make the ride more comfortable, Hankook engineers have equipped the Ventus V12 evo 2 with an aerodynamic wing profile that further reduces tire noise and enhances its sporty look.

Premium tire manufacturer Hankook introduces the new Ventus Prime3 for the European market. When developing the model, Hankook engineers paid special attention to wet braking performance. The new silicon compound and new mixing technology significantly improve the distribution of polymers and fillers in the tread compound. As a result, wet braking performance is improved by about 8%, while rolling resistance is reduced. The 4-groove tread pattern allows for rapid water evacuation, which improves control on wet roads and further reduces the risk of aquaplaning. The Ventus Prime3 also delivers improved dry performance. Thanks to the optimized asymmetrical design of the tread, the contact patch of the tire with the road is increased by 10%.

A novelty of this season, designed for SUV class cars and focused on high efficiency and comfort. For precise control and increased damping capabilities, the technology of three-dimensional load distribution on the sidewall and tire bead was applied. The 3D tread design prevents air turbulence and vibration noise, which ensures acoustic comfort during operation. This season the tire is presented in 16 sizes with landing diameters from 15 to 18 inches.

Another MAXXIS innovation for vans and light trucks. The new generation of silicon compound used in the rubber compound has significantly improved wet braking and reduced rolling resistance, which has a positive effect on fuel economy. The specially designed flat profile design provides optimal pressure distribution in the contact patch area for even tread wear, while the semi-closed tread groove design dampens driving noise. The reduced thickness of the steel cord made it possible to reduce rolling resistance, while maintaining optimal carcass rigidity. The range of the tire includes 28 standard sizes with landing diameters from 14 to 17 inches.

The model is designed for drivers with an active driving style and those who want to emphasize the individuality of their car. The developers have focused on the original design and high rates of acceleration, braking and directional stability. Rigid central rib tires and shoulder block design provide good directional stability at high speeds and precise steering response, while the directional V-shaped tread pattern contributes to good traction during acceleration and braking. The double steel cord combined with the seamless helically wound nylon layer makes the tire particularly durable, which is important given the quality of our roads. The combination of an adaptive elastic cord and a densely packed tread allows pressure to be evenly distributed over the entire contact patch area, which contributes to a longer tire life. The range includes seven standard sizes with landing diameters from 14 to 17 inches.

The latest development of MAXXIS for 4x4 vehicles with high levels of self-cleaning, wear resistance and comfort. Optimized tread and undertread with Dual-Cord technology increase tire resistance to cuts, punctures and rips. The optimized configuration, size and location of the tread blocks provide increased protection and traction and prevent foreign objects from getting stuck in the tire. The reinforced three-layer sidewall contributes to maximum transmission of traction and protects the tire from mechanical damage. A special off-road tread compound with an innovative chemical filler provides even heat dissipation for increased wear resistance. The range of the tire includes 27 standard sizes with landing diameters from 16 to 20 inches.

Summer novelty, the result of three years of development. Thanks to the use of a new generation of elastomers in the rubber compound, the tire provides a high level of grip on wet surfaces from the first to the last kilometer without compromising performance. To improve the grip properties, the developers have optimized the tread pattern relief. It features a more squared profile of the drainage channels, which allows to increase their width by 22% when worn up to residual depth 2 mm tread. This solution makes it effective to remove water from the contact patch even as the tire wears out. Thus, safe use of the tire is possible throughout its entire service life, up to the minimum permissible tread depth of 1.6 mm. The braking distance of the new Primacy 4 tires is independently tested by 0.9 meters shorter than the average competitor, and in the event of significant tread wear on both tires, the difference will be as much as 2.8 meters. Independent tests have also shown that the average mileage of the Primacy 4 will be 18,000 km more than its competitors. In 2018, the tire is available in 29 sizes from 15 to 18 bore diameters.

For the 2018 summer season, Michelin is expanding its range of this high-performance tire, designed for performance cars and sports cars, by 13 sizes in 20m and 22m rims. This sports tire is based on constructions and materials developed for competitions such as the World Endurance Championship, World Rally Championships and Formula E. For example, Dynamic Response technology provides the tire with high precision control on dry surfaces. The solution is to use a heavy-duty aramid-nylon breaker ply that allows the tire to resist centripetal forces and keep the contact patch stable at very high speeds, providing a high level of grip and handling. A specially designed tread design contributes to quick reactions to steering turns. The tire uses Bi-Compound technology - two different rubber compounds for the outer and inner parts of the tire. The outer part incorporates an elastomer that provides confident traction when navigating tight corners at high speed. "Functional elastomers" have been added to the rubber compound on the inside for superior wet traction. The improved composition of the rubber compound has significantly improved wear resistance.

This is the third generation of a tire designed for powerful and sporty SUVs. The company's engineers managed to achieve not only a reduction in the braking distance on wet surfaces by 2.7 meters, compared with the previous generation tire, but also significantly improve the model's mileage, its strength and handling. The increased width of the water channels provides effective water drainage and confident grip on wet surfaces, increasing the threshold for hydroplaning. Additional durability and reduced risk of tire damage on poorly paved roads is provided by the double carcass in the tire construction. The rubber compound, using a combination of the latest generation of elastomers and silica, achieves high wear resistance while maintaining optimal levels of grip and fuel efficiency. The tire is presented in 44 standard sizes with landing diameters from 17 to 21 inches.

A model in the UHP range that provides precise steering response at high speeds and when cornering. Four asymmetric grooves provide optimum directional stability and effective water drainage from the contact patch, allowing you to achieve high braking performance, as well as a good level of grip on dry and wet roads. Long service life is achieved through the use of new additives that prevent aging of the rubber compound and uneven tread wear. The tire is available in sizes from 15 to 21 inches with a section width of up to 285 mm.

Among the main advantages of the tire is a high level of handling: a rigid design of the shoulder blocks provides reliable grip for improved cornering and safe braking in extreme driving conditions. For more confident handling and better grip on wet roads, the tread pattern has 4 wide grooves that effectively remove water from the contact patch, and an asymmetric tread pattern helps reduce the risk of aquaplaning and reliable grip on wet roads. The innovative tread compound and the optimized design of each tire element help to reduce fuel consumption. The tire is available in sizes from 13 to 17 inches with a section width of up to 235 mm.

The debut of a tire designed for premium SUVs and crossovers Russian market took place last year. Its main concept is quiet and comfortable driving with a high level of safety. With functional and stylish asymmetrical pattern tread achieves a high level of controllability and directional stability at high speed. The latest tread rubber compound provides confident grip on wet road surfaces, which helps to reduce the braking distance. Application special technology Noise-canceling grooves contributes to low noise. This season the tire is presented in 30 sizes with landing diameters from 16 to 21 inches.

Another Nitto model introduced last season. This ultra-fast tire performs well in both dry and wet conditions. It is designed for today's high-performance sports cars, which require confident handling and reliable braking performance. Robust carcass construction provides optimum stiffness for fast tire response steering. The high-tech tread compound delivers low rolling resistance and improved grip on wet surfaces. Aggressive directional tread design with double central rib and large blocks helps to effectively remove water from the tire contact patch, which provides a high level of handling and directional stability on wet and dry roads. This season, the tire is presented in 44 sizes with landing diameters from 15 to 22 inches.

Designed for SUVs, these high performance tires feature a stylish and functional asymmetric tread pattern for a quiet and comfortable ride. The outside of the tread has a large block (and therefore a larger footprint) for improved dry traction, while the design of the inside helps evacuate water efficiently on wet surfaces. The special composition of the rubber compound provides an excellent balance of high performance and wear resistance. This season the tire is presented in 24 sizes with landing diameters from 17 to 24 inches.

Tires for a wide range of passenger cars with an original design. Increased tread blocks on the outer part contribute to the stable behavior of the tire when cornering and directional stability on dry pavement. At the same time, the multi-wave 3D sipes on the inside of the tread provide extra grip on wet roads. The sipes are positioned in such a way that they reduce the deformation of the tread blocks during driving - a solution that improves the wear resistance of the tire. Wet performance is improved with wide longitudinal grooves and beveled 3D blocks in the center. To avoid intense wear of the inner shoulder area (which is typical for cars with a low landing and a negative camber angle), the rigid design of the inextricable block of this part of the tire helps. The special fine serrations on the groove walls optimize airflow distribution and enhance acoustic comfort. In the summer season of 2018, the tire is presented in 30 sizes with landing diameters from 15 to 22 inches.

Nokian Tires is celebrating the summer season with a series of new products, including the Hakka Black 2 Ultra High Performance tire designed for sporty driving. The inner shoulder area of the tire is reinforced for a more stable ride even on poor road surfaces. Non-through grooves and sipes on the outer shoulder area, as well as an asymmetric tread pattern with three wide central ribs, increase steering precision. Multi-layer tread compound rubber compounds that use a dense cellular structure of polymer molecule chains provide better grip and durability compared to previous generation tires. In addition, innovative tread compounds improve wet grip over a wide temperature range, while the multilayer tread structure reduces rolling resistance, among other things. When developing the tire, Nokian Tires engineers used the Dynamic Grip concept, which allows the tire to adapt to road conditions and includes technologies such as Hydro Canyon (computer-optimized grooves on the central longitudinal ribs that effectively collect water and direct it into wide central grooves), Silent Groove (semi-circular recesses on the walls of the longitudinal ribs, which contribute to both reducing the noise emitted by the tire during movement and cooling it, which contributes to the durability of the tire). The tire is available in 40 sizes with landing diameters from 17 to 21 inches with speed indexes V (240 km/h), W (270 km/h) and Y (300 km/h).

Designed for SUVs and crossovers, this new SUV also features the Dynamic Grip concept for better grip on wet and slippery roads as well as in high-speed cornering. This quality provides a whole range of innovative technologies, the same as in Nokian tire Hakka Black 2. In addition, given the specific use of the tire, it has a strong construction: the sidewalls of the tire reinforced with aramid fiber provide the necessary strength, protecting against impacts and cuts. The tire is available in 29 sizes with bore diameters from 17 to 22 inches. Most sizes are marked XL, which means an increased load index.

Tire for SUVs and crossovers. Its robust construction, combined with a reinforced sidewall, including the use of aramid fibers, allows you to confidently withstand bumps and cuts during operation. Stone removers in the center grooves provide extra durability, while off-road lugs in the shoulder areas enhance traction. Hybrid tread compound improves wet weather safety: this next-generation rubber compound delivers effective wet traction. In addition, the original Dry Touch 2 lamellas are used in the tread layer, which contribute to the rapid removal of water from the contact patch. Improved types of polymers and an improved structure of silica used in the rubber compound reduce friction, which in turn leads to lower heating of the tire. More low temperature tires reduce rolling resistance and fuel consumption. The Hakka Blue 2 SUV model is offered in 21 sizes with landing diameters from 16 to 19 inches with speed indices H (210 km/h) and V (240 km/h).

The Italian company introduced this tire in the spring of 2016. According to the developers themselves, a feature of the new tire is maximum stability even at the highest speeds. The technology, the essence of which is the use of a particularly hard rubber compound in the bead area, has appeared thanks to the experience in the development and production of tires for Formula 1 racing. This solution provides the fastest and most accurate response to steering movements without loss of grip in the transverse direction. The use of another special technology made it possible to flatten the contact patch, which contributes to more even wear and increased tire durability. The increased number of tread grooves, as well as the deepening and widening of the channels, made it possible to increase the volume of water removed from the contact patch by 10%, which increased the tire's resistance to hydroplaning. The special tread pattern also made it possible to reduce the noise level emitted by the tire while driving. A number of new solutions used in the development and production of new items made it possible to reduce rolling resistance by 15%, which significantly affects fuel efficiency. Today, under the same name P Zero, several technically different tire options are produced, and each of these options is designed for a specific type of car. For cars with more pronounced sports performance there is an option with a less embossed tread (A), the second option (B) is more suitable for luxury sedans.

"Green" tire for medium and executive class. The eco-friendly sign applied to the sidewall indicates that only natural materials that do not contain aromatic oils are used in the rubber compound. When the tire was launched, the solutions applied in its design and tread pattern made it possible to reduce the noise level by almost 30%, and to reduce the braking distance on dry and wet surfaces by 1 and 2 meters, respectively. The tire is presented in 58 sizes (including run flat - 91) with landing diameters from 16 to 19 inches and a width of 205 to 275 mm.

    Pirelli Scorpion Zero

This tire with two tread patterns (directional and asymmetric) is aimed at owners of SUVs and pickups and, thanks to its high level of grip and precise steering responses, is suitable for drivers who prefer a sporty driving style. The modern technologies used in the Scorpion Zero provide a good balance between dry and wet handling and braking distance, and contribute to uniform tire wear and high mileage. The tread pattern and rubber compound used in the Scorpion Zero tread layer contribute to safety in all road conditions. Among other things, the design of the tire allows motorists to emphasize the individuality of their car. The tire is presented in 59 standard sizes with landing diameters from 18 to 22 inches.

A tire with an asymmetric tread pattern designed for crossovers. The original composition of the rubber compound, containing an increased amount of silica, ensures stable behavior of the tire at high temperatures and its high mileage. This is facilitated by the latest generation polymers, which are also part of the tread compound: they give the tire elasticity, help form an optimal contact patch and provide a high level of grip in a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. In the shoulder area of the tire, an innovative rubber compound and original design are used - solutions that improve grip in the longitudinal direction. Handling is largely ensured by a combination of rigid tread blocks, and four longitudinal grooves effectively remove water from the contact patch, significantly increasing hydroplaning resistance. The pitch of the tread blocks is designed in such a way that it avoids sound resonance, i.e. provides acoustic comfort. Moreover, Tire Scorpion Verde has a low coefficient of rolling resistance, which contributes to improved fuel efficiency. This season the tire is presented in the range of landing diameters from 16 to 21 inches, in a number of standard sizes the Run Flat technology is available.

Another "green" Pirelli tire designed for SUVs and crossovers. The optimized tire profile and the use of innovative materials have resulted in a 10% reduction in tire weight and a 20% reduction in rolling resistance, which contributes to vibration reduction, comfort and fuel economy. Thanks to the often spaced longitudinal and transverse lamellas, directional stability is increased on wet and lightly snowy roads. The large contact patch and four wide longitudinal grooves in the tread pattern provide effective water evacuation, increasing the level of safety on wet roads. The tire is presented in 35 sizes (including run flat - 36) with landing diameters from 16 to 22 inches with a width of 215 to 285 mm.

The new flagship in the Toyo Tires summer line, created in response to the key demands placed on tires by drivers of powerful cars: high-speed handling and wet grip. At the same time, the developers of Toyo Tires tried to provide these characteristics without compromising such indicators as driving comfort and tire mileage. When developing Proxes Sport, Toyo Tires used its own Nano Balance technology to improve the properties of the rubber compound. This technology makes it possible to simulate and analyze the interaction of mixture components at the nanoscale and to mix the components with high accuracy. The result is a firmer, more wear-resistant compound and reduced tire rolling resistance. The tire structure, also engineered with the most advanced technology, combined with an optimized tread pattern, provide more precise steering for even more driving pleasure. This season, the tire is available in 44 sizes with bore diameters from 17 to 20 inches.

New from Toyo Tires. In designing the tread pattern of this model, Toyo Tires engineers applied their own T-Mode computer simulation technology, and the rubber compound was developed using advanced Nano Balance technology. The asymmetrical wide tread with 3D wavy sipes prevents uneven tire wear and improves braking and maneuvering stability. The rigid edge of the outer part of the tread also affects the uniformity of wear and increase the mileage of the tire. Embossed groove walls (Silent Walt technology) reduce high-frequency noise from the tread when driving. Cord layers wrapped around the bead ring and extending high into the shoulder area provide extra strength and stability when riding on rough roads. The updated rubber compound allowed to solve several problems at once: to reduce rolling resistance, improve wet braking and damping properties, as well as increase tire life. The model is presented in 41 standard sizes with landing diameters from 14 to 18 inches.

Stylish sports tire new generation for urban SUVs. It features a striking tread design with a directional swept tread pattern that enhances directional stability and promotes better grip on wet roads. At the same time, rigid, wide blocks in the shape of parallelograms provide dry handling. Lightning-shaped grooves effectively evacuate water from the tire's contact patch with the road. Slightly angled blocks are subject to less deformation during driving and braking, which allows for better contact of the tread with the road surface and reduces wear. Block displacement during acceleration and deceleration is limited by 3D sipes. This season, the Proxes ST III model is presented in 42 sizes with landing diameters from 16 to 24 inches.

    Toyo Open Country A/T plus

Featuring both aggressive styling and high performance, this premium All-Terrain crossover and SUV tire replaced the popular first-generation Open Country A/T last season. The tire has been updated with a rubber compound, tread and sidewall design, which improved most of the characteristics of its predecessor (handling on dry and wet roads, acoustic comfort, rolling resistance coefficient). The model is suitable for operation both in urban conditions and on light off-road / country roads (50/50). The tire is presented in 56 standard sizes with landing diameters from 15 to 20 inches.

Lightweight tire with an asymmetric non-directional tread pattern that gives it optimal traction in both dry and wet conditions, as well as stability in straight lines and when maneuvering. The original solution is the variable stiffness of the sidewall, achieved by adding a patented co-synthesis product to the rubber compound. This technology allows the tire to adapt to road conditions, softening bumps on bumpy roads and increasing sidewall stiffness when driving at high speeds. Wide longitudinal grooves (with different width on the outer and inner sides) effectively remove water from the contact patch, and the transverse grooves accelerate the removal of water, increasing the hydroplaning threshold. The outer side of the tread, due to a rigid array of rubber in the shoulder area, provides good handling on dry roads, and inner side responsible for wet handling. This is ensured by reinforcements in the transverse grooves and efficient water drainage through the longitudinal and transverse grooves. The temperature range of the tire operation is from +2 to +55º C, in the range of more than 30 sizes with bore diameters from 13 to 18 inches.

A tire with a symmetrical non-directional tread pattern that can be used in slush or melting snow conditions. Like the Viatti Strada Asimmetrico, it uses variable sidewall stiffness technology. Four longitudinal grooves quickly remove water from the contact patch, which is facilitated by the non-uniform geometry and pointed edges of the central checkers, which effectively break the water film. Transverse grooves of different geometry, located in the central area of the tread, and sipes of the original shape reduce the uniformity of the pattern and reduce noise from the tire when driving. The tread pattern has a rigid central rib and reinforced longitudinal rows of blocks, which provides high stability in a straight line and the ability to maneuver at high speed. Wide transverse grooves in the shoulder areas, coupled with special lugs between the lamellas of the shoulder blocks, increase patency. Depending on the profile width, the tires of the Bosco A/T line have two tread patterns. Tires with a width of 215 mm or more have an additional stiffening rib. The range of the tire includes 21 standard sizes with landing diameters from 15 to 18 inches.

As the manufacturers themselves write, this tire is designed for standard cars and their "charged" versions. The directional tread pattern with a large number of block edges located in the direction of wheel rotation enhances the edge effect. The special shape of the grooves allows you to effectively drain water when cornering. The main grooves of the tread have a large number of protruding edges in the shape of a lightning bolt. In addition to better grip, this shape provides the tire with a high level of hydroplaning resistance. Drainage grooves have enlarged edge elements. Additional grooves of reduced depth increase the rigidity of the tread blocks and provide a clearer control response. This season the tire is presented in 43 sizes with landing diameters from 15 to 20 inches.

A tire designed for premium cars and sports cars, both for passenger cars and for crossovers and SUVs. The design of the Advan Sport V105 incorporates the company's latest technologies for both sporty performance and comfort, and has been developed in close collaboration with sports car designers. Special attention The developers were drawn to the high grip performance on wet roads and the low rolling resistance. The latter contributes to fuel efficiency, which underscores Yokohama's commitment to protecting the environment. The tire design uses a matrix cord structure with a high-strength metal cord and special reinforcements in the shoulder area. These solutions made it possible to both reduce the weight of the tire and increase its strength characteristics. In the summer season, the Advan Sport V105 model is presented in 97 sizes with landing diameters from 16 to 22 inches.

This tire, endowed with sporty performance, is designed for a wide range of vehicles, including hybrids. Compared to the previous model, Yokohama's new tire has been improved in a number of ways, with the most significant improvements in wet braking and handling and dry braking. At the same time, the tire provides a high level of comfort, both acoustic and dynamic, and a low level of rolling resistance. Significant improvement in performance was greatly facilitated by the use of an innovative tread compound, which uses two types of silica - a solution that allows to optimize the proportions of the compound for high wet performance and fuel efficiency. The tread design has also been developed with a focus on improving wet performance. Also, the tire design uses a two-layer tread technology, which not only reduces heat transfer, but also improves dynamic comfort, and the developed carcass retention structure helps maintain tire elasticity and reduce its weight. Even at the stage of computer modeling used in the development of the tire, an asymmetric tread pattern design was adopted to ensure uniform tire wear and improve its stability when cornering. This season, the Yokohama BlueArt-A model is presented in 31 sizes with landing diameters from 16 to 18 inches.

“Experience is the son of difficult mistakes ...” Remember the figurative figure from the poetry of A.S. Pushkin? Yes, she is true! And if you have an opinion, which tires can go into popular rating then share your thoughts in the comments. We will be grateful for the activity in compiling the rating.

Everything is not the same with us as in Europe with its good roads. For example, there are the most common ones, these are First level for new golf cars. And we usually wear powerful versions in such shoes. And it is also the most affordable and common tuning: on wide "bast shoes" even inexpensive car looks much tougher.

There is a demand - there will be an offer. The choice of such tires in our market is huge. Almost all brands are represented in this dimension - from top to cheap.

    Wider circle

We haven't had such a young "team" for a long time: we are testing nine out of twelve tires for the first time!

You can’t do without top models, because it is they who set the top bar in the final results. To our great regret, the new tires and the updated Pirelli P Zero did not have time to get to the test (I had to be content with the model of the previous generation at a price of 8300 rubles apiece, made in Italy). But we have a couple of other top new products - German-made Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 tires (6500 rubles) and Nokian Hakka Blue 2 (6200 rubles). The latter is still of Finnish origin, but in the near future its production will be transferred to Russian Vsevolozhsk.

We could not refuse tires that were in the lead in last year's test - these are Hankook Ventus S1 evo2, designed in Korea, but made in Hungary (5700 rubles). The Land of the Rising Sun is represented by a new toyo tire Proxes Sport (5900 rubles), made in Japan and debuted this season on our market in a limited number of sizes. Another "Japanese", but of Thai origin - Dunlop SP Sport FM800 (5400 rubles).

Matador Hectorra 3, aka MP 47, is a model of the budget brand of Continental; made in France, sold for 5000 rubles. Last year's novelty Nordman SZ Russian "cooking" is slightly cheaper: 4900 rubles. Among the budget - completely domestic Cordiant Sport 3 for 4700 rubles. The model is far from new, but it has just appeared in this size.

Of great interest to readers are Chinese tires GT Radial SportActive (4500 rubles) and Triangle Sportex TSH11 (4000 rubles). And closes the list of Belshina Artmotion HP from Belarus (4000 rubles). Experienced motorists will surely remember that in Soviet times Belarusian tires were well-deservedly popular.

The carrier car was chosen to match the test participants -. Built on the Golf platform, almost all tire manufacturers use a sedan in their internal tests, since it is characterized by clear reactions, a good balance of handling and relationship with the driver.

The tests were carried out at the end of the summer of 2016. The weather was hot, the air temperature fluctuated from 22 to 37 degrees. The test site is the central strip of Russia, the Volga region, the AVTOVAZ test site, located on the border of the Samara and Ulyanovsk regions.

    On your marks

We start testing when calm weather sets in. We start with, combining several consecutive tests - this way we can save time on rearranging the wheels.

The first and most precise test is the evaluation of rolling resistance.

First, we warm up the car and tires, moving at a speed of 120-130 km / h along the special roads of the landfill. While driving, experts evaluate the Jetta's road holding at high speeds, making gentle lane changes to understand how the tires affect the car's behavior. In the summer, ten kilometers, or one full circle, along the high-speed ring of the AVTOVAZ test site is enough for the eyes to warm up the tires and all units of the test car, evaluate its behavior at high speed and set preliminary estimates for the noise level and smoothness.

The Jetta's best handling at high speed is provided by Pirelli tires: on them, the car perfectly holds the given direction, without requiring adjustment, and shows very clear reactions at the slightest turn of the steering wheel. At the same time, a dense, heavy steering wheel with excellent information content allows you to understand, even with your eyes closed, by the increasing effort on the steering wheel, how much you turn the steering wheel and how far the car goes to the side. An honestly deserved nine points - we rarely give such an assessment!

Belshina turned out to be the most insecure in this exercise - Jetta immediately formed a blurry “zero”, the steering wheel became empty, yaws along the road began. When adjusting the direction - delays in reactions, large steering angles and unpleasant steering rear axle in corners - that and look will break into a skid. Usually such an effect is given very much.

The tires are warmed up - it's time to start measuring, which we carry out on a two-kilometer horizontal and straight section expressway. Three or four double "runs" in opposite directions, and we have the first results. Every few sets of tires, we again check those tires that were assigned as the base ones - if the temperature of the air and asphalt changes by two or three degrees, you need to make a run on the base tires every three test tires, and if the temperature changes by four to five degrees - every two. This is necessary for the subsequent correction of the obtained measurements. And already at the end of the day we determine the final results by recalculating those obtained, taking into account changes in the data of periodic measurements of the "stove" (that is, in the results shown on the base tires).

GT Radial, Matador and Nokian turned out to be the most economical of all - with them, the Jetta has the most modest consumption at city and suburban speed limits. The Jetta looks a little paler on Triangle tires - this model competes with the top three only at 60 km / h, and at the “country” speed it is inferior to 0.1 l / 100 km.

Behind everyone is Cordiant: it loses to the leaders two "tens" per hundred at the suburban speed limit, and four - at the city speed limit. Of course, the difference is insignificant, but it is there.

Now a pit, now a ditch

Now we move to the northwestern sector of the landfill, to a special road with cracks and potholes. We carry out races at speeds from 30 to 90 km / h to evaluate how the ride and interior noise change.

The results are quite natural: wide low-profile tires design features- usually noisy and hard. Therefore, six participants "made noise" only by six points, and five earned seven. Only Nokian (for low noise level) and Goodyear (for smooth running) received eight points (rating "norm").

The GT Radial tires turned out to be the toughest - impressive jolts and strong vibrations from road bumps run on the floor of the body, seats and controls. And these are the only tires on which the Jetta has .

Before replacing a set of wheels, drivers move off the asphalt onto a loose primer. Here, on a 12 percent rise, starting and moving with varying degrees of slippage, experts evaluate the effectiveness of traction in various modes. This information is useful for those who have a piece of country road on their way to their dacha. The results do not go to the final standings - we give them for reference only.

The Cordiant, Matador, Hankook and Pirelli tires are the most confident rowing on a dirt slope - all received seven points. And Goodyear, GT Radial and Toyo slip more than the rest - experts gave them five points each. He who is born to fly cannot crawl!

    Stop - one, two ...

The assessment of braking properties is associated with increased tire wear. Despite the presence, during sudden braking, the front edges of the checkers are slightly rounded. For this reason, we first brake on wet pavement, where the coefficient of adhesion is lower, and therefore the tires “spoil” less, then we repeat the test on dry. But the procedures are similar on both surfaces.

First, we “clean up” the braking lane clamped by the cones, having made 15–20 braking on non-recordable tires, - we remove dust and small pebbles from the trajectory, on which the car can “slip”. And only then we perform from six to eight braking on a test set, each time carefully cooling the brake mechanisms with a long idle circle.

The starting speed of braking on wet pavement is 80 km/h, on dry pavement - 100 km/h (these are the standard "pegs" in all tire tests). We finish the measurement when the speed drops to 5 km / h, since the ABS does not work correctly at a lower speed - the automation does not always have time to brake the wheels, and skid, as you know, lengthens. The VBOX measuring complex, which operates based on data from GPS and GLONASS satellites, allows you to fix the stopping distance with high accuracy. The main thing is to have a clear sky above your head.

When braking, Pirelli beats everyone, as they say, in one goal - both on wet roads and on dry ones. On wet pavement, Nokian repeats its performance, but on dry pavement it loses a little more than a meter, falling back to fourth position. On dry land, the second result with a gap of 0.4 meters from the leader is for Goodyear tires. It is noteworthy that according to the results of both “dry” and “wet” braking, the same tires gathered in the top four - Hankook joined the three above.

Matador tires have the longest braking distance on wet pavement: they are more than four meters behind the leader. On the dry trail behind all Cordiant, losing almost four meters to the leader.

It is curious that on dry surfaces the difference between the participants is a little more than 10%. In the wet, the gap is more significant - over 15%. It is wet asphalt that is the stumbling block when manufacturers are looking for a compromise between results and costs (development and production of mixtures, cost of components).

    Jumping to the side

It remains to check how the subjects relate to. On our roads, this is extremely important - otherwise how to go around the pits? The key to success is quick reactions to steering turns, stability and mutual understanding between the driver and the car. The “rearrangement” or “single lane change” maneuver helps us to simulate such a situation.

We perform the shortest (and, accordingly, the slowest) of the former Gost exercises for assessing the controllability of a car: the length of the corridor in which you need to change lanes is only 12 meters. There are also 16-, 20- and 24-meter “rearrangements”, but in the shortest tires they are loaded with lateral forces as much as possible, since the maneuver is the sharpest, with large steering angles.

The “rearrangement” exercise is performed twice - on wet pavement and on dry pavement. In both cases, the tester does 15-20 repetitions, consistently increasing the speed. As a result, we get the maximum value at which the car remains within the entrance corridor without knocking down the poles. The vehicle speed in the exit corridor is recorded by an impartial VBOX.

The Jetta showed the highest speed on wet surfaces at Pirelli tires, dry - on Hankook tires. The lowest speed is respectively on tires Matador and Cordiant. Pirelli holds the palm for handling during extreme maneuvering on both surfaces. Experts awarded these tires nine points. Both wet and dry, these tires fill the steering wheel with informative effort, and the Jetta pleases with clear reactions, reliable and understandable behavior, even with very sharp steering actions.

The greatest difficulties with keeping the car on a wet road arose on Cordiant tires, GT Radial and Matador. The experts noted delays in reactions, increased steering angles and low information content, as well as a dangerous deep skid in the second corridor, requiring the driver to instantly parry the steering wheel.

On dry pavement, it is most difficult to change lanes sharply on Cordiant tires - the comments are the same as on wet pavement, but the skid is not so deep, although it requires immediate correction.

    Who will win?

Before summing up, we recall about. This year, we raised the weight of the brake performance rating to 500 points (increased to 260 points for wet asphalt and up to 240 for dry asphalt), reducing the weight top speed on a permutation. The total assessment of the car's behavior, taking into account roadholding, handling and speed at a rearrangement, pulls 330 points. We believe that now the balance between braking and maneuvering behavior is more logical.

The first place with a significant margin from competitors is occupied by the most “driver” tires that can give pleasure from driving in any conditions and modes. If the wallet allows, and impeccable comfort is not a manic idea, this the best choice. I wonder what will be the updated Pirelli P Zero tire that hits the market this spring?

The second position is taken by Nokian Hakka Blue 2. It loses quite a bit to the test winner. In terms of performance, it is inferior to just a little, but a little more economical and comfortable. And better value for money. Recommended.

Having scored the same number of points and sharing the third and fourth steps of the extended pedestal, they crowded good year tires The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 and the Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 are also great tires. They are very similar to each other in their characteristics, comments on both are minor. When choosing, the scales can swing in favor of the more affordable Hankook.

in the category "very good tires” hit Toyo Proxes Sport (889 points and fifth place), Nordman SZ (882 points) and Dunlop SP Sport FM800 (875 points). In all respects, down to comfort, they are very close. But Toyo provides more directional stability and is more suitable for long trips, and the primer for all tires is acceptable in minimal doses. In terms of price and quality ratio, Nordman is more seductive than the rest.

The next three are from the “good tires” category: Belshina Artmotion HP and Triangle Sportex TSH11, which scored 865 points each and shared eighth-ninth places, as well as the slightly lagging GT Radial SportActive (847 points). Despite the difference in the final scores, both Chinese tires are similar in “character” like twins. The Belshina tire, due to significant comments on directional stability, is recommended only for city speeds, although it slows down a little better than the “twins” on both dry and wet roads. In addition, it is a little more comfortable, which means it is better adapted to rough roads. The "twins" from China (they even have the same braking distances on dry and wet pavement!) will please you with a fairly high road holding on long trips, but only if the roads are good - both tires do not shine with a smooth ride. All three do not like sharp maneuvering on wet pavement, and the GT Radial does not like it on dry pavement either. However, they have an ace up their sleeve - they contribute. In terms of price-quality ratio, Belshina and Triangle are a bit more attractive (both are just right for the minimum budget).

The last lines are Matador tires Hectorra 3 (834 points) and Cordiant Sport 3 (826 points). They are slightly more expensive than those that have taken higher positions, and at the same time they are inferior to them in opportunities. The assets of the Matador are high fuel efficiency, satisfactory directional stability and comfort level, and the liability is the most modest braking properties on wet roads. Cordiant boasts satisfactory grip on wet pavement. Confident movement on the primer is provided by both tires.
