How to change tires on wheels yourself. Replacement and storage of summer tires in winter at home. Installing new tires on the disc

Every November-December in Russia comes the “tinsmith’s day”, as the people dubbed it: as soon as the surface twitches with the first snow, a solid traffic jam accumulates near all the vulcanizations of the city from those who want to change wheels. Craftsmen can try their hand and, armed with a jack and wrench, change the wheel in the yard. But the replacement of rubber on disks, at first glance, is far from being possible for everyone. Situations on the roads are different and every driver, sooner or later, has a need to put the tire on the disk himself. How to do it yourself, and will be discussed in our review.

Changing tires at home is not as scary as it might seem at first glance. From the whole variety of stamped, cast or forged wheels, it is enough for a motorist to decide on suitable option. When buying, you need to pay attention to the parameters of the disks, because a small mismatch can cost too much (size in inches, offset, diameter for the hub, number of mounting holes and the radius of their location).
If you still decide to try to replace the rubber on the disks yourself, in addition to the disks and tires themselves, you will need:

  • one or two mounts (about 30 cm);
  • hammer;
  • sponge dampened and smeared with soap.

If you bought a tubeless tire, be prepared for some difficulties: it is more difficult to fix it on the disk than a tube one. But when the main part of the work is behind, it will be enough to pump it up with a conventional pump or compressor.

First step

The process of stretching the rubber itself is not too tiring. Underlay some material and place the disc on the surface with the back side. Wet the surfaces of the disc and rubber that will be in contact with soapy water. Do not use lubricants that remain on the surface - so there is a possibility that the tire will spin under heavy braking.

Second phase

Then you need to put the tire on top of the lubricated disc, and, pressing evenly with your feet, put most of the cord on the rim. But in this way it will be possible to put on only part of the tire, then you will have to use a pry bar and a hammer: the pry bar must be inserted between the rubber and the disk, and then by hitting the pry bar with a hammer, you must try to bring it closer to the break point of the rubber. If you manage to get closer to this point than three centimeters, you can stretch the rubber. These actions should be repeated until one cord is pulled over the rim. The main thing is to act with small intense movements, otherwise the disk itself can be damaged.

The final stage

Changing the rubber will generally take about two hours, but the main difficulty is to ensure that air does not seep through the targets between the rim and tire cord.

And there are two ways to fix the problem:

1. Inflate one tire with twice the normal pressure and use the tire instead of the compressor. But, of course, this can only be done if you have an "extra wheel". When opportunities do not allow such a "roam", you have to look for alternative options.

2. Pour a little fuel into the tire and then set it on fire. Thanks to the vapors that explode in the tire, it will inflate, and it will "sit" on the rim in the right way. There is a large number of opinions about the required amount of gasoline or other flammable liquid(for example, carbcleaner).

Liquid (literally quite a bit) must be injected through the gap between the rubber and the rim, and then set on fire. The wheel will bounce, pop and the tire will "sit down" in place. After that, we inflate the wheel to the desired pressure, and you can begin to operate.

For normal operation of the car, it is periodically necessary to replace and install high-quality tires. This is an almost simple process, but not all motorists can handle it, especially for beginners.

Typically, replacement is performed for certain reasons:

  • serious deformation or puncture of several tires without the possibility of their repair and restoration;
  • heavy wear of one or more tires;
  • seasonal replacement summer tires to winter tires or vice versa.

In order to carry out competent work on replacing rubber, it is necessary to follow the recommendations and rules. Otherwise, it can lead to a wheel out on the track and a serious accident.

First of all, you need to know that the tires to be installed must comply with the overall dimensions and characteristics recommended by the car manufacturer. There may be small differences, but not more than 2%.

General properties and dimensions are indicated in the instruction manual vehicle. If these are not available, use the recommendation of the car dealer.

At the next stage, you need to find out the load index of the tire being installed, as well as speed characteristics. They should not be less than the parameters specified in the instructions from the manufacturer.

Tire changes can be made with higher index values, but not with lower requirements. Typically, indexes are indicated in the operating instructions for the car.

Next, you should analyze the characteristics of the air pressure in the tires. The indicators must be completely identical with the factory settings. Otherwise, the wheel may be severely deformed and burst when driving a passenger car.

In the event that tires are over-inflated or, conversely, have less air, this will negatively affect the stability of the vehicle and its high handling characteristics. Tire pressure indicators are indicated in the operating instructions for the car.

Now let's highlight another important rule that beginners and experienced car owners should use when installing a complete set of tires: when purchasing sets of tires, you need to make sure that the characteristics of the landing and departure of the disk correspond to the factory parameters of the vehicle.

If these properties do not match, then this will negatively affect the handling of the car and quickly lead to deformation of the car suspension. General characteristics departures and landings are specified by the tire manufacturer and the plant where the vehicles are produced.

Tire replacement due to heavy wear

On any type passenger car front tires are most often deformed, since most passenger vehicles have front drive axles. Accordingly, the rear wheels on them are subject to less wear.

Many owners often try to regularly replace the front tires, and leave the rear tires for a few more seasons.

But in this situation, every car lover should know that the absolute indicators of safe and reliable ride will only be achieved by using all 4 tires with the same tread.

Naturally, tires are expensive products and not everyone can afford to regularly replace products, especially in a complete set.

In such a situation, the installation of tires can be divided into two stages. To begin with, the front tires are replaced and after a certain period of time the rear tires are installed. However, all processes are recommended to be performed only with identical pairs of tires.

Car tire replacement in case of a serious defect

If the installation of new tires has to be done urgently due to the deformation of the old ones, then you should know a certain rule. Regardless of the model or brand of tires, the thickness of all four treads must be identical to each other.

If only one tire is damaged and cannot be repaired, at least a pair of new ones should be used.

It is possible to replace only one damaged tire only if the set is completely new and only a few hundred kilometers have been driven on it.

In this situation, the vehicle owner can purchase only one similar tire and install it instead of the damaged one, without fear of loss of control quality and safety while driving.

When a motorist managed to drive more than 1000 km, it is no longer possible to replace only one tire. The protectors wear out quickly enough, and balance will probably be lost when installing only one new one.

Installing new tires on the disc

Immediately before installing a new tire on a disk, a detailed check of its condition is required.

The disc is checked for serious defects, distortions, as well as wear on the flanges and rim. It is recommended to remove additional weights balancing the wheel and valve at the time of replacing the old rubber. This procedure is performed only in the situation when the tire does not have a chamber.

When installing new tire it is desirable to take into account the marking in the form of colored marks applied to its surface. They indicate the main direction of rotation in the form of an arrow on the side.

The implementation of a simpler and easier installation of a tire is directly related to the application of individual spots on its sides or the use of soapy liquid. However, do not overdo it with lubrication, as the rubber will begin to slide on the disc rim.

Installation new rubber on the disk is carried out in the opposite direction with respect to dismantling. First you need to put the tire on one side of the disc rim, and then insert the inner tube. Moreover, the valve should fall into a small hole in the rim. The next step is to install the second sidewall of the rubber.

How to properly inflate tires for reliable rim additive

Thus, the tire is well put on the rim, after which the air pressure should be reduced to the desired parameters. Here it is important to take into account the fact that the pressure is measured at the moment when the tire is installed on the wheel, subject to the car weight.

For tubeless tires this process is a bit more complicated. A simple pump for pumping or a special compressor cannot be used until the rubber beads are completely leaning against the disc rim, since air actively penetrates through the gap between it and the tire.

You can use an alternative method: inflate a vehicle tire up to four atmospheres. Then we remove the hose and install one of its ends on the valve of the mounted rubber.

It is first necessary to unscrew the nipple and insert a part of the hose with a special fitting into the inflated tire.

Then, as the fitting is installed, the main part of the air will penetrate into the tubeless rubber and set it in place by stabilizing the pressure. At car service stations, original compressors with large receivers are used to inflate wheels.

However, such a task can be implemented by yourself, if you show a little skill and logic. Also, do not forget that after installing new rubber, the wheel is balanced.

Rubber on the front axle of the vehicle

Every owner and experienced motorist knows that the front tires should be changed at the very beginning. Since the car is subject to a lot of skidding when driving on worn rear tires, there is a great risk of deformation and rupture of the front wheels.

In a situation where tires burst on front wheel accidents without serious consequences can no longer be avoided.

Basically, the causes of severe wear of the front rubber are associated with maximum loads on the axle and regular turns of the steering system.

Since the front wheels are regularly subjected to severe impact and subsequently ruptured, higher demands are placed on them in terms of increased strength and reliability.

To reduce the risk of puncture and deformation, the front rubber must be changed in pairs of tires. The level of controllability of the car depends on the competent choice of tires.

How to change tires on rims manually

I understand that the times are not the same, but even so, there are tubeless tires, how to change it manually, describe the technology for the most gentle replacement of rubber, than to hook it up, in all details.

Sorry by accident - posted.

On this topic. I support. Buy. And also buy equipment for the production of nitrogen - you will pump it into tires. I can even give you the coordinates of the inventor of this technology - he will personally fit you a manual assembly plant for nitrogen production.

"Buy." or "go to the tire shop" - the answers of average citizens.

And in from an outstanding comrade (Anatol) is puzzled by the question "how to send a tire service to x ..". Sit down, think and will no longer pay $ 100 a year. Accordingly, we multiply by N years and get 30 days of vacation (with a salary of $ 100 / day) earned. Even if he spent 10 days on fittings for installation, he will receive about twenty days (assuming that he will change tires every year for the rest of his life, and now he is thirty years old) - not bad. I fully support him, but "I can not advise anything sensible." Such time - everything "efficient" costs money.

Che , citizens, goggle your eyes? - Work, work, otherwise there will be nothing to go to the tire fitting.

How to change tires on a car

Spring inevitably brings warmer temperatures. For motorists, this means the need for such a procedure as replacing tires on a car, the timing of which is regulated by law in some countries.

This need is explained by the fact that seasonal tires have specific features that allow their operation only in a specific period. Using the wrong type of car tires often leads to unexpected costs. It can also cause an emergency.

Timing for replacing winter tires with summer tires

Traditionally, the replacement of winter tires with tires for the warm season is made by the owner of the car when he considers it necessary, based on his beliefs and / or capabilities. Terms of replacing winter tires with summer tires Russian Federation does not regulate. Formally, this requirement applies only to cases of replacing studded tires with summer tires.

When should you change winter tires to summer tires?

Therefore, there is no exact period in which the mentioned procedure must be performed. Car owners have the right to engage in seasonal tire changes whenever they want. Those motorists whose cars were shod with studded tires should know that, according to the law, the period for replacing studded tires ends on June 1st. This is the deadline for replacing winter tires with summer tires in the case of studded tires.

Despite all of the above, experts recommend changing Velcro when the night temperature remains positive for several weeks. It is these conditions and temperatures that are ideal for replacing rubber.

How to change tires on a car

Changing tires is, in fact, a process that does not cause any particular difficulties. Any service center handle this task in a matter of minutes. And from a financial point of view, this service is relatively inexpensive. But there is a group of people who prefer not only to independently determine the period for replacing winter tires with summer tires, but also to do it on their own.

An example of properly lifting a car with a jack

In such a situation, there are two options for resolving the issue:

  1. Complete wheel replacement.
  2. Changing tires on installed rims.

Obviously, the first option will not require any specific skills or excessive efforts from the motorist. It does not take much time to carry out such manipulations and time. It is enough to have a jack, a tubular wrench and basic motorist skills.

Despite the simplicity of the procedure, even in this case, replacing rubber with summer tires must be carried out independently in compliance with safety rules. According to them, the car must be parked on a flat and firm surface. Before using the jack, the car must be installed on hand brake. The car should also be fixed additionally using special shoes for this purpose.

In the case when the surface is not hard enough, a wide board should be placed under the jack support, which will reduce the load produced by the vehicle, evenly distributing it over a large area.

Spinning the wheel before jacking up

  1. Before the car is jacked up, the bolts on the wheels are unscrewed.
  2. By means of a jack, the car body rises to the desired level and is fixed.
  3. Wheels with winter tires are replaced with analogues with summer tires.
  4. The car drops to the ground.
  5. New wheels are fixed.

Obviously the option complete replacement wheels are very comfortable. However, not all motorists have such a replacement kit, especially in the assembly. Therefore, for them, seasonal tire replacement implies tire fitting.

Technically, tire fitting is also not a complicated procedure. But most car owners prefer to do it with the hands of service station masters. For those who are not familiar with wheel beading, we offer a step-by-step description of the process.

Tire wheel on rim

When it comes time to replace winter tires with summer tires, two blades must be prepared for tire fitting. The further process includes the following steps:

  1. The rim is treated with soap to ensure slip.
  2. By means of the blades, the tires are removed from seat on the wheel rim. This is not a quick and rather laborious step.
  3. Summer tires are mounted on rims instead of winter analogues. This process is reversed.

Basic rules for changing tires

When replacing tires with summer tires becomes an urgent need, or when the deadlines for replacing rubber with winter tires expire according to the law, people begin to rush and make mistakes. The vanity is fraught with serious troubles. So, no matter what, stick to the following rules.

  1. Mounted tires must have the characteristics and size recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, or differ by 2%.
  2. Tires must have a load / speed index, the value of which cannot be less than that prescribed by the manufacturer of a particular vehicle. It is allowed to use rubber with large values, while with smaller values it is strictly prohibited.
  3. The internal pressure in the tire chambers must correspond to the indicators recommended by the car manufacturer. Different values can be set for wheels of different axles.
  4. When purchasing wheels, you should make sure that the landing diameter and offset of the disks correspond to those in the technical documentation of the vehicle manufacturer. Otherwise, this discrepancy will have a negative impact on the handling of the vehicle, as well as tire wear.

How to correctly decipher the markings on car tires is shown in the figures below.

How to change tires when they are worn out

The average daily temperature for replacing tires with winter ones, traffic regulations for the timing of replacing tires and the need to replace winter tires with summer tires according to the law are not all the reasons for changing the “shoes” of your “iron horse”.

Tire wear also requires the attention and intervention of a motorist. Tires wear unevenly. Usually the tires on the front wheels suffer more. Therefore, some drivers try to replace tires only in front, leaving the rear wheels intact for another 1-2 seasons.

Having decided on such an adventure, it should be understood that driving safety is ensured only if the entire set of wheels has the same tread pattern. Otherwise, the risk of losing control of the vehicle increases significantly.

How to tell if tires are worn out

Experts say that the greatest driving safety can only be achieved by replacing tires with winter or summer tires according to the rules, when full set four identical tires.

High-quality tires are quite expensive, and not everyone can afford a one-time change of all four tires. Then the replacement is recommended to be performed in two stages. First replace the front pair of tires, and then the rear. But you should not delay updating the latter, because old tires increase the likelihood of skidding.

How to replace tires with severe damage

If your car's tires are seriously damaged, follow the basic rule. It states that the tread thickness on all wheels should remain the same. In the event that tire retreading is contrary to this rule, you should change a pair of tires on the wheels of one axle, at least.

Typically, replacing a single tire will damage the vehicle's handling. The only exceptions are new tires or tires with low mileage. Having rubber without tread wear, you can purchase one similar model and install in place of the damaged tire.

Tire replacement options for vehicles with different drives

If the rubber has served a decent time, this solution will not help. The tread thickness on wheels on the same axle will vary markedly, dangerously increasing the chance of loss of control.

It’s not worth the risk, especially since by replacing two wheels and throwing away a damaged tire, the second one can be used as a “spare tire” or sold.

We repair a punctured tire - a test of 16 repair kits and advice from ZR

Can a punctured tire be healed with a first aid kit? Za Rulem experts tested 16 kits for repairing tubeless tires in the case, and at the same time demonstrated the algorithm for the operation to save the damaged tire. The instructions are supplemented by life hacks that will be useful to all drivers.

In ancient times, there was GOST 5170–73 “First-aid kits for repair pneumatic tires". What components were not in these first-aid kits! And a fungus, and a grater with a band-aid, and a roller ... And now each manufacturer decides for himself what exactly to put in his kit.

Let's check what the descendants of those travel kits are capable of. Pushed to decisive action editorial Grant, one of the wheels of which has expired. Instead of a tire changer, we visited several shops where we purchased 16 different tubeless tire repair kits. The spread of prices is sevenfold, although the principle of operation is the same. After detecting a puncture, you need to remove the culprit of the trouble (a self-tapping screw, a nail), then expand the hole and firmly insert a folded rubber flagellum into it. The nuances of technology and tools may vary, but in general, the repair algorithm is exactly the same.

Having repaired the tire, which met the self-tapping screw on the road, we decided to test all 16 repair kits on the poor thing. However, in the end, only 13 stab wounds were inflicted on her, since three sets were rejected at once: the flagella in them are frankly bad, instantly torn in the hands.

The instruments also differ quite a lot. So, the cute handle in the CityUp CA-793 set managed to turn around relative to the sting at the first attempt to get inside the tire.

Note that in some sets there are no “pickers” provided, and in some places there is no glue. And the names of the instruments are different for almost all manufacturers - in the explanations we give exactly the “branded” version.

A tire with so many holes in the tread part passed the test of running at speeds of over a hundred for a couple of weeks without losing a drop of precious air. For the sake of the experiment, we did not even cut off a few ponytails - and everyone resisted. A small puncture in the sidewall was also managed with the help of a flagellum. Although the reliability of sealing is noticeably lower than in the case when the tourniquet is held in a thick (even for a used tire) tread layer.

Towards the end, another test was carried out - a kind of "household" one: they pierced the sidewall of the tire, like some kind of bully with a knife or a screwdriver. We were no longer engaged in comparative tests, but simply fought for survivability. By the way, the same damage occurs, for example, when the tire makes hard contact with a curb or a sharp edge of a pit. Such a temporary repair is a priori more difficult: the sidewall is thinner than the tread, and therefore it is more difficult for the flagellum to stay in the hole.

There is no glue included. However, the set fulfilled its immediate function.

Approximate price: 270 rub.

Equipment: eye tool, long black "self-vulcanizing" cords (4 pieces)

Glue is not included in the kit. The straps appear to be very thin. There is no tool for preparing the hole in the kit - you have to act immediately with a “needle”. However, we completed the sealing of the hole.

Approximate price: 270 rub.

Equipment: lug tool, wet rubber activator adhesive, conical red plugs (6 pieces)

Red step-shaped "gags" are torn even before they are installed in the tire.
Failed.

Approximate price: 150 rub.

Equipment: spiral file, awl with eye, plaits (3 pieces), glue

Inexpensive set successfully coped with the task.

Approximate price: 240 rub.

Equipment: file tip tool, eye tool, raw rubber bands (5 pieces), activator glue

The sting of the “picking” tool is too thin. But the wheel was repaired.

Of the listed kits, we select Titan T‑609 for 130 rubles - with affordable price it is equipped with a set of tools that did not cause any complaints from us.

Separately, we note DoneDeal DD0320 for 540 rubles - the only set in which a cutter is provided to cut off the ends of the bundles sticking out of the tire. If not for the price, he would be a champion.

We determine the place of the puncture. If an external examination does not help, immerse the wheel in water or, at worst, douse it with water to detect air bubbles. Sometimes for this you need to increase the pressure to 2-3 bar. Having found a puncture, we mark it. Pliers extract the culprit.

We take a tool for stripping and holes (colloquially - a “picker”), install it in the puncture site and release the handle - we are trying to determine the direction of the puncture by the angle of inclination.

We apply a layer of glue to the surface of the “picker” (if it is present in the repair kit) and first screw it all the way into the tire, then pull it out. The operation must be repeated two or three times. On the last pass, leave the tool in the recessed position.

We take a tourniquet and install it in the eye of an awl (it is also called a “needle”). We apply glue to the surface of the bundle.

We take out the tool for stripping and shaping and quickly drive an awl with a tourniquet into the hole. The ends of the bundle must remain on the surface.

We take out the awl - the tourniquet should remain in the hole.

The tire is the same, inside view. Captured with a hidden camera...

We inflate the wheel and check the tightness with water or at least by ear.

We cut off the ends of the bundle protruding from the outside flush with the surface of the tire tread.

Everything, you can go!

  • Use only "classic" flagella reinforced with synthetic threads. Outwardly, they resemble a twisted rope impregnated with a rubber-like composition. Do not use any conical plugs or strips without reinforcement, otherwise you will cry.
  • It is advisable to choose a "picker" with a T-shaped handle. Otherwise, calluses are guaranteed.
  • We do not recommend using sharp, rasp cleaners for repairs. They almost always break the cord.
  • Before starting repairs, the wheel must be pumped up to at least 0.5–1.0 bar.
  • If you are in doubt about the quality of your repair, move the repaired wheel back.
  • If a puncture is discovered while driving, and immediate repair is not possible, do not rush to remove a nail or self-tapping screw sticking out of the tire. As long as it is in place, the tire will not deflate as quickly. Better time pump up a punctured wheel from time to time until the start of a full repair.
  • Remember that with the presence of glue in the kit, the installation of the flagellum becomes easier, and the chances of a long service life are higher.
  • If the kit has been lying in the trunk for a long time and the glue has dried up, you can use gasoline instead (but not diesel fuel).

We wish everyone that our advice will never come in handy! Have a good trip!

How to replace a tire yourself

Motorists often change tires - either from summer to winter, then from winter to summer, then when buying new tires, then with damage and punctures. Tire replacement is usually entrusted to service stations. But, in order to save money or for other reasons, motorists can master this procedure on their own. To replace rubber with your own hands, you need a wheel wrench, a pair of mounting blades, a jack and a car pump. However, without knowing some “secrets”, it is difficult to replace a tire on your own. We'll talk about the tricks of replacing a tire now.

Removing the old tire from the rim

First you need to remove the old tire from the disk. To do this, raise the car with a jack, unscrew the fixing bolts with a wheelbrace and remove the wheel from the car. Lay the wheel on the ground with the valve up, remove the nipple from the valve and let the air out of the tube or tire (if the tire is tubeless). After that, “drown” the valve inside the tire and stand with your feet on the wheel so that the sidewalls of the tire are wrung out from the rim. Sometimes the tire "sticks" to the rim and you have to make an effort. After you managed to wring out the sidewalls, insert the mounting spatula into the gap between the rim and the sidewall of the tire. Working with two mounting blades, bring the sidewall of the tire out of the wheel rim, and pull out the chamber into the resulting gap. In the same way, bring the other sidewall of the tire through the same rim, and remove it from the disk. Be careful not to damage the disc. Particular care must be taken with a fragile alloy wheel.

Installing a new tire on a rim

Before installing a new tire on a rim, check its condition - carefully inspect it for defects and damage, make sure that the tire and rim fit each other in size. Also check the condition of the disk, for mechanical damage, the absence of dirt and rust, wear of the rim flanges. Remove the old balance weights and the old valve if the tire is tubeless.

When installing new tires, do not forget to take into account the color marks and pointers on the tire. Namely, the recommended direction of rotation, which is usually indicated by an arrow on the sidewall of the tire. For an easier and more gentle installation of the tire, you need to apply a special lubricant or soap solution to its bead and bead heel. Don't over-lubricate or the tire will slip on the rim!

Mounting the tire on the disk is carried out in the reverse order with respect to dismantling, that is, first one sidewall is put on the rim of the disk and, if it is a tire with a chamber, then the chamber is inserted, while its valve must enter the rim hole. After that, the second sidewall of the tire is put on.

How to inflate a new tire so that it sits tightly on the rim

If the tire is chambered, then your task is very simple - inflate it with air, with a pressure slightly higher than normal, so that the tire "sits" well in place, then reduce the pressure in the tire to normal, while taking into account that the pressure must be measured, when the tire is installed on the car, that is, taking into account the weight of the car.

If the tire is tubeless, then the task is more complicated. Unfortunately, with a conventional hand or foot pump, or even car compressor it will not be possible to pump it up until the tire beads “sit” tightly on the rim, since the air will simply go out into the gap between the tire and the rim of the disc. But there is a way out!

To solve the problem, inflate any car wheel to 3.5 - 4 atm., Remove the hose from the pump, put one end of this hose (the one without a fitting) directly on the valve of the tubeless tire that has just been mounted, after removing the nipple from the valve, and put the other end of the hose, equipped with a fitting, on the “pumped” tire. At the moment of putting on the fitting, a large portion of air will enter the empty tubeless tire and "put it in place" on the disk. The beads of the tire will sit firmly on the rim, and the tire can now be inflated in the usual way. At service stations, special compressors with volumetric receivers are used to inflate tubeless tires, but, as you can see, you can solve this problem yourself, at home.

Do not forget that after installing a new tire, the wheel must be re-balanced.

What are the dangers of old tires. Should I buy tires with age and mileage?

"Spikes" or "Velcro" - which winter tires better?

Replacing tires for motorists is a fairly common task. Car owners deal with its decision when switching from summer tires for winter, when replacing old tires with new ones, in case of damage or punctures. As a rule, tire installation is carried out by service station workers, but no one bothers to learn how to do this operation with your own hands. Moreover, situations may arise when the ability to bead a tire with your own hands will be simply necessary (an unforeseen situation on the track far from the service station, in order to save money).

In general, the procedure is not complicated and, with some skill, any car owner can perform it. In this case, you must have a set of tools - a jack, a wheel wrench, mounting blades or a pry bar, a heavy hammer or a semi-sledgehammer. In addition, it is necessary to know certain "secrets" that will help to dismantle the tire from minimal effort for a short period of time.

How to disassemble a wheel at home

If you got into unpleasant situation on the road, you can simply remove the wheel and put the "spare". But not always such a step will be the only one in solving the problem, it may be necessary to perform a wheel beading - a more complicated operation.

Removing a tire starts with preparatory phase- you need to prepare the tools. Nothing special is required, but the toolkit that is elementary for a car owner is necessary (hammer, jack, set of keys, mounting blades, steel corner). In addition, a solvent or turpentine may be useful to remove the rubber that has "welded" to the tire.

It is necessary to remove the tires yourself in a certain sequence:

  1. The first step is to remove the wheel. To do this, use a jack to raise the car from the right side. Next, you need to unscrew the mounting nuts and remove the wheel. It is advisable to lower it, as well as pre-press the places where the rubber contacts the disk.
  2. The next step is the actual disassembly of automotive rubber. This operation is performed using mounting blades, which provide high accuracy and allow you to remove the tire without damage. In addition, a pre-prepared steel corner is used, slightly rounded in advance so as not to damage the rubber.
  3. Remove the tire from the disk carefully so as not to damage it.
  4. After the entire tire is out of the disc, you need to slowly remove the camera. At this stage, the question of how to remove the rubber from the disk yourself is closed. Next, you need to either replace the tire with a new one, or vulcanize the old rubber.

Installation is carried out in reverse order.

If the rubber is “sticky” to the disk, it will be very difficult to remove it. Do not try to force the tire off the rim, you will only damage it. Use an available liquid such as alcohol or thinner. Pour liquid over the required section of the wheel, wait a few minutes and calmly with your hands, using a mounting spatula, remove the old rubber. After the operation, do not forget to wipe the area of \u200b\u200bthe tire dry.

Many modern cars are equipped with tires in which there is no separation into a chamber and a tire. This design is called a tubeless tire and its beading is somewhat different from the standard type of automotive rubber. Taking it off is much more difficult. Structurally, a tubeless car wheel consists of a disc and a tire. The latter consists of inner and outer layers. Air is located between the inner layer of the wheel and the disc. In the event of a puncture, the tire does not immediately lose pressure, which allows the car to drive to a service station or garage.

The design of tubeless tires provides for the presence of special bulges or “humps”. When pressure is created inside, the joints of the tires are sealed, which makes it very difficult to remove tubeless rubber with your own hands. Many car owners with such tires are not even aware of the possibility self repair. In fact, you can shoot a tubeless wheel with your own hands, the main thing is a certain skill and skills. You will also need a special device to create a higher pressure on the rubber to separate it from the disk.

If the situation when car repairs are needed happened far from the service station or garage, you can remove the tubeless tires with your own hands. car disk. At the same time, it will be much more difficult to put on and pump up such a tire. It is necessary not only to put on the tire, but also to ensure that its bead jumps over the “hump” of the wheel. For these purposes, gasoline or ether is used, which is poured through the valve into the tire, leaving a little fuel on the side of the tire. Next, you need to set fire to gasoline on the side and with the help of several blows push the rubber inward, setting fire to the vapors inside. There will be a small explosion that will wear the rubber on the disc and put out the gasoline on the surface. After that, you can turn on the compressor from car kit to create the necessary pressure in the tires.

A few tips for those who will deal with tire beading with their own hands:

  • when assembling after removing the tire, do not ignore the size of the chamber and discs;
  • regrading between the axles and sides of the vehicle must not be allowed (set different types rubber);
  • dirt does not contribute to durability and can lead to pressure loss;
  • do not remove the tire using a screwdriver or other sharp object, you risk damaging the rubber product, use special mounting blades or metal corners with rounded edges to remove.

You won't have to remove discs too often, but certain skills and tools are required.

How to make a device for self-parsing wheels

In order to remove rubber from the rim with your own hands, you can use improvised materials or build a home-made machine for sorting. The design of such a machine is elementary and consists of several elements:

  • frame - consists of several profile pipes arranged in parallel, corners can be used for connection;
  • vertical pipe - attached to the frame and designed for mounting the lever used to remove the tire, also used as a platform for the disk;
  • machine tube that is welded to the handle and serves as a lever for efficient wheel removal.

Assemble the tire removal machine only from high quality materials. The loads are very high and serious injury or wheel damage can result.

The base of the machine must be as reliable as possible. To create it, use profile pipes High Quality. The distance between the pipes must be at least 70 cm, which will ensure the stability of the entire structure for manual removal of rubber. Between themselves, the pipes are best connected with a steel corner or a pipe of a smaller diameter.

It is convenient to remove tires at the optimal height for a particular person. In this case, legs with adjustable height can be welded on.

The next element of the machine is a vertical pipe welded to the frame. The pipe diameter should be 20-30 mm. A mandatory element of this pipe is a flange welded at a height of 400-600 mm.

In addition, the vertical tube contains fasteners - a metal plate that serves to fasten the lever used to disassemble the rim by hand. The lever greatly simplifies the dismantling procedure. It consists of two elements - a shoulder and a paw, which directly affects the disassembled tire.

With the help of such a machine, you can easily disassemble all the wheels of the car with your own hands without involving specialists from the service station,

How to remove a tire from a rim

Disassemble car wheels with homemade machine possible with the following sequence:

  • remove the wheel and install it on the flange of the tire changer, fix it using a clamp;
  • with the narrow end of the mount, bring the edge of the rubber out of the disk;
  • complete the removal of the tire by removing it completely from the rim;
  • do not allow the edge of the disk to deform, otherwise it will be very difficult to put on a new tire;
  • it is advisable to grease the edges of the rim with grease, this will preserve the integrity of the tire during removal;
  • when installing a new tire with your own hands, you can use a soap solution that will help you complete the operation with less physical effort;
  • when working, it is worth using special tool kits.

A few more tips. Before removing the tire, wrap the profiles on which the disc will lie with soft material. This will protect it from scratches and damage.

A do-it-yourself machine may look unsightly, but it has a number of advantages.

Firstly, the car owner will not need to constantly go to the service station to perform simple job. This saves time and money.

Secondly, the cost of such a machine is minimal, it can be made from improvised materials with your own hands. Also, the advantage is ease of assembly, compactness.

In addition, such a machine is universal and suitable for any type of vehicle, including trucks.

The disadvantages of a do-it-yourself machine include the impossibility of balancing, you can only remove the rubber from the disk.

The above version of the machine is just one of many designs designed to remove tires from the rim at home without the use of professional equipment.

What tools can be useful in the process

Various tools are used to remove a tire from a wheel, including:

  • a set of plastic mounting blades - made of durable material and allow you to work with rubber products without damaging them;
  • a set of metal tire mounts - there are different types (straight, s-shaped, l-shaped), are a tool different kind impact - shock or lever;
  • various tire pliers;
  • keys set;
  • hammers and sledgehammers.

How to make a wheel breaking machine yourself

A punctured tire on the road, in the absence of a spare wheel in the car, turns into a problem. Especially if there is no machine for sorting. In this situation, you can get out of the situation with the help of improvised means that are in the trunk of any car owner. We are talking about mounting blades and a device for separating the tire from the disk. Many car owners use a piece of steel angle and a sledgehammer for this purpose, but there is an easier option using a jack and a steel cable.

Work begins with the dismantling of old wheels. Remove it from the car axle and clean it of dirt. Release the air and lay it on the ground with the nipple up.

Pass the steel cable through one of the holes in the rim. Install the jack on the rubber so that it is as close to the disc as possible. At the same time, you should not install it close to the nipple, you can tear it away from the camera.

The removal procedure begins after you place the cable over the jacking platform and begin to raise the jack. In this case, the cable will pull the rim up, and the jack will squeeze the tire down. In this way, tires can be easily removed for tire replacement or rim repair on the road.

Of course, it is easier to turn to specialists at the service station, who will perform the necessary work in a short period of time and at a moderate fee. However, it is not always possible to turn to professionals, especially if problems arose on the road in the middle of a field and far from civilization. A minimum set of tools, ingenuity, strong hands and a desire to do the work yourself will help you cope with tire fitting on your own.

The tire manufacturer's instructions say that you need to change shoes when the temperature drops below + 7 ° C. In my opinion, it's too early. There are still a lot of cars on the roads with summer tires around. And at this temperature, the braking distance on your studded tires may be even longer.

I advise you to change the wheels to winter ones when the temperature drops below zero at night. That's when it really is time, because in the morning an icy area can be caught on the roads. At the same time, out of habit, it will seem very slippery.

Why change the car yourself?

Precisely then, to do it at the most correct and convenient time. The vagaries of the weather are unpredictable. Residents of the Rostov region, for example, say that sometimes winter period rearrange the wheels from winter to summer and back several times.

(i.e. removing the tire from rim) at home is a difficult task that requires appropriate skills and knowledge. We will describe a simpler job, which in theory should be handled by any average motorist who does not have special tools and experience in tire fitting. Therefore, we assume that you have a complete set of serviceable winter tires mounted on rims. You remember that in the spring they did not lose pressure, there were no cuts on them, and a couple of self-tapping screws did not stick out of the tread in addition to the spikes. And, most importantly, the tread height is more than 4 mm. These are the modern requirements for winter tires. If at least one of the conditions is violated, then it is better to solve the problem before the onset of the hot tire season.

Balance or not?

There are car owners who meticulously balance tires before each season. In my opinion, this is not justified. I recommend to install the wheels on the car, then drive at different speeds, but not higher than your usual. If the imbalance (it is manifested by vibrations on the steering wheel or seat) is not felt, then balancing can be postponed until future seasons. In principle, it is possible to balance winter tires before storage: after all, the spring period for changing wheels in tire shops is more extended in time compared to autumn, and therefore there are noticeably fewer queues.

What pressure to put in the tires?

So, we get the wheels from storage. For one, this is the corner of the garage, for the other - a balcony, for the third - the warehouse of the nearest car service that provides wheel storage service. Tires may have different temperatures depending on storage conditions. Wheels removed from a warm room, having cooled down by 20 ° C, will lose about 0.2 bar of pressure, and gradually, as they cool down. Well, the cold ones have nothing to lose! Therefore, cold ones can be immediately pumped up to, well, maybe 0.1–0.2 bar more, given that it will only get colder further. And warm tires must either be inflated with a large margin immediately, or set the pressure at the end of all work, when the air in them cools down.

How to change wheels?

We find a flat area with a hard surface. If you change the wheels yourself twice a year, then I strongly advise you to get a convenient jack. At least small and inexpensive, but rolling. It is significantly more reliable and durable than the regular one that your car was equipped with. it is advisable to use a cruciform or with an extended handle - it is more convenient than the standard one attached to the car.

Prepare an emphasis under the wheel - yes, at least half a brick. look around The secret key for damaged code points and clean the secret nuts/bolts on all wheels.

If the winter set of wheels has different disk characteristics, remember if spacer rings are needed between the disk and the hub lug - they should be prepared in advance.

  1. If the tires have a directional tread pattern, we strictly select the wheels in the direction of rotation. Two right wheels and two left. The arrow on the sidewall will help us. For installation on the front axle, we try to choose less worn tires.
  2. We orient the steering wheel straight, turn off the engine, set the car to the handbrake. The automatic transmission selector is in the Parking position if the car is equipped with mechanical box gears, then leave the lever in gear. We put an emphasis under the wheel located diagonally from the one we are going to shoot.
  3. under the strengthened place on a threshold of the car. It is usually indicated by a triangle on the threshold or is well palpable on the flanging. We slightly raise the car with a jack, but not until the wheel comes off. We unscrew the completely secret nut / bolt. Loosen the rest of the fasteners half a turn.
  4. We hang out the wheel completely with the help of a jack and remove it. While the wheel is removed, it is convenient to assess the condition of the pads, brake disc and brake hose, and for many cars you can still inspect the CV joint boot and stabilizer bar roll stability. We clean the mating surface of the hub from dirt with a metal brush and apply a thin layer of lubricant. Better special, copper.
  5. Put the wheel on winter tire. We bait fasteners and tighten it evenly crosswise or as an asterisk is drawn. We lower the wheel to the ground and finally tighten the fasteners. Do not overdo it. In almost all cars, except for large SUVs, the tightening torque does not exceed 100–110 N∙m. That is, on a convenient half-meter key, the force should not exceed 20 kg. Jumping on the key is definitely not worth it! The secret is tightened last and slightly less torque than the rest of the nuts / bolts.
  6. One wheel has been replaced. We repeat the procedure three more times - and that's it. We are ready for winter when we decide it ourselves, and not when we stand in line at the tire shop.

Just in case, after the first trip, check the tightness of the wheel fasteners, and the next morning, the tire pressure.
