Ground clearance opel insignia. Review of the car Opel Insignia Country Tourer: for safe driving. Ground clearance Opel Insignia

The line of cars Opel Insignia is many-sided and diverse. It includes both a D-class sedan, and a hatchback (to be precise, a liftback), and two station wagons at once - and we have not yet remembered the “charged” versions from the OPC court tuning studio. Why, with such a variety of modifications, did Opel need to create two similar station wagons at once, and even more so to bring them to the Russian market, where, in principle, “wagons” are not very favored? Let's try to figure it out.

First appeared Insignia Sports Tourer- a kind of canonical station wagon, which differs from the sedan mainly in the increased volume of the luggage compartment. It is also slightly longer, but it is hardly noticeable. And with the restyling of the model in 2013, the second station wagon of the series entered the arena - Opel Insignia Country Tourer. This car belongs to a class of station wagons that is more understandable and suitable for Russia. off-road, invented, as you might guess from the name of the hero of this review, primarily for country trips. The key differences from the younger brother Sports Tourer are as follows: the presence of an all-wheel drive modification and increased ground clearance from 160 to 175 millimeters. Of course, outwardly Country Tourer very similar to Sports Tourer- but the first got massive protective panels made of unpainted plastic, due to which the appearance of the wagon turned out to be more off-road and formidable. In general, the names of the modifications are similar, and the cars are quite different in nature and purpose. Don't let yourself be confused!

⇡ Exterior

Russian motorists have a number of stereotypes associated with station wagons. Like, these "sheds" are not beautiful, and indeed they are intended for the most part for aged people or inveterate summer residents. To agree with them or not is a personal matter for everyone, however, all kinds of sedans and crossovers of different sizes on the roads of Russia are at a premium. Don't believe? Look out the window.

Meet this is the same Opel Insignia Country tourer

However, the designers of the Insignia Country Tourer should be given their due - this car looks really cool. Subjectively speaking, it is in the back of the Insignia station wagon that it seems the most concise, collected and integral. A body with an elongated roof obviously suits her.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer - side view

We repeat: from the subjective point of view of the author of these lines, this is very beautiful car. And, by the way, quite large: the length of the body is almost five meters - 4.92 m, to be completely accurate. The sedan is a little shorter - 4.842 meters. However, this difference appeared solely because of the plastic lining. The wheelbase of the cars is the same, respectively, there is the same amount of space in the cabin.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer - headlight

The basic equipment package includes adaptive bi-xenon headlights. Depending on the speed of movement, the position of the steering wheel and the external lighting, the width of the light beam changes. The angle of rotation of the headlights can reach 15 °, which is especially important when driving through unlit intersections. This lighting system is called AFL+ and has received the prestigious NCAP Advanced Award. The daytime running lights on the Insignia Country Tourer are LED.

What we didn't expect was that we'd have complaints about the Country Tourer's trunk. Yes, it is equipped with an electric drive, and the driver has the ability to adjust the level of lifting the luggage lid. All is well with this.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer - rear view

Another bad thing. Due to the bulk rear bumper, especially plump closer to the middle, loading and unloading the luggage compartment of the Opel Insignia is not very convenient: the trousers will get dirty - don’t go to a fortune teller, and micro-scratches on the bumper appear at an alarming rate.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer with open trunk

However, the company's engineers solved this problem by making the boot floor retractable. This is really very convenient, but the idea is not implemented without flaws. Firstly, no more than one hundred and twenty kilograms can be put on the extended floor, and it is for heavy loads that such a system is especially relevant - it is easier to place light luggage without hitting the massive bumper. Secondly, if the floor is extended, it is impossible to secure the load, that is, you still have to reach inward. Otherwise, the trunk of the Country Tourer is, of course, impressive: its volume is 540 liters, and with the rear sofa folded down, it reaches 1530 liters. However, it is impossible not to notice that the more affordable modification of the Sports Tourer has exactly the same luggage compartment.

Hidden inside the trunk are a pair of marker lights. They are designed so that when you make an emergency stop on the side of the highway, drivers of passing cars will definitely notice you. The rear LED optics of the station wagon is very beautiful. Complements the aggressive image of a silver diffuser with two exhaust pipes.

⇡ Interior

The interior of this station wagon, to be honest, is unusual for this class of car. Here, surprisingly "sports" seats with quite powerful lateral support - not every hot hatch has one. Unfortunately, it is because of her that large people in the seats of the Insignia Country Tourer can be cramped. The seats are adjustable in six directions (electric adjustment and the ability to save settings are provided only for the driver), there is a retractable section for knee support. It is noteworthy that the chairs are approved by the German association AGR, which has established orthopedic requirements for car seats. They, like the steering wheel, are trimmed with pleasant to the touch perforated leather and are equipped with heating and ventilation.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer - driver's seat

The steering wheel here is also with a hint of sports - plump, with a bevel at the bottom. Joysticks located on it control the on-board computer and multimedia system. Even in the base wheel equipped with heating.

In the center of the front console is an eight-inch touch screen multimedia system IntelliLink, under which the climate control keys are located. It is noteworthy that the buttons for setting the temperature and turning on heating or ventilation are touch-sensitive.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer - center panel

The interior uses a lot of rather hard plastic - especially on the front panel. True, there are no comments about the assembly - no backlashes and squeaks.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer - central tunnel

Between the seats is a central tunnel with an armrest and cup holders. It is made a little strange - it has a rather bizarre shape with an acute angle, on which the left hand of the front passenger can “stumble”. The gear selector is framed in gray plastic - not the most elegant solution. The “glove compartment” in the car is very large - it can easily accommodate not only folders with A4 documents, but also a compact laptop.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer - glove box

Surprisingly, despite the solid dimensions of the car, there is not much space in the rear seats. The height is sufficient, but there is less legroom for passengers than one might expect - the fastenings of the front seats are especially in the way. By itself, the rear sofa is very comfortable, although there is no heating, let alone ventilation.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer - rear sofa

It is not provided for rear passengers and their own climate control settings, as well as controls for any multimedia options. Apparently, the engineers proceeded from the fact that the main consumers of this model will be family people, and children will most often ride in the second row of seats.

Optionally, you can order a two-section panoramic sunroof, reaching the rear seats and equipped with an electric blind. The front section is movable, the rear section is not.

Country Tourer - the most expensive Opel modification insignia. Although it is quite difficult to talk about prices now, since they change weekly, but at the time of testing, the cost of the simplest version according to the current price list exceeded the psychological mark of two million rubles. And the set of options installed in the tested car increased its cost to two and a half million. Probably, due to the high price, Opel decided not to bring the Country Tourer to Russia on the "mechanics" - a six-speed "automatic" is already available in the basic configuration. The Adaptive 4 × 4 all-wheel drive system with Haldex center clutch and torque distribution between the axles is offered as an option - by default, only the front wheels are driven. A distinctive feature of Opel's intelligent all-wheel drive is the ability to transfer all (100%) torque not only to the front, but also to the rear axle. There is also a full mechanical differential lock. In general, all-wheel drive is pretty advanced here.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer - driving mode selection keys on the center console

For all-wheel drive modifications The Country Tourer features an adaptive FlexRide chassis with electronically adjustable suspension. The driver can choose from three driving modes - Normal, Sport and Tour. It is noteworthy that, depending on the chosen movement model, the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal, the force on the steering wheel and the gear shifting algorithm also change. It is argued that cunning automation itself can change each of these parameters if it "feels" the need for it. True, the author of this review did not feel a significant difference between these modes. Unless in "sport" the steering wheel becomes a little heavier, and the box switches at higher speeds.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer 2.0 CDTI ECOTEC (195 hp) - engine compartment

The range of engines in the Opel Insignia Country Tourer is exhaustive. The younger version of this station wagon is equipped with a 1.6-liter supercharged gasoline power unit. Paired with this motor, whose power is 170 horsepower, is available only front-wheel drive. Drive lovers are shown a two-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 249 “horses”, which produces a maximum of 400 Nm of torque, which turns all four wheels of the car. This Insignia engine will not turn this engine into a racing car, but acceleration to 100 km / h in 8.9 seconds will provide - not so bad for a car of this class. It is noteworthy that the mentioned turbocharged engines are configured to work with the 95th, and not with the 98th gasoline.

There are also two diesel engines available for the Insignia Country Tourer: both two-liter. The first gives 163 horsepower and 350 Nm, and the second - 195 "horses" and 400 Nm. The junior heavy-fuel engine is the heart of both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive modifications, and the older one is installed only in the Adaptive 4 × 4 version - the one we got.

Having replaced Vectra in 2008, Insignia is already writing its own history: restyling in 2013 is not only visible retouching, but also a change in the line of engines. And also - the appearance of a version of the all-wheel drive station wagon with an increased clearance of up to 175 mm Insignia Country Tourer in the "clearing", where the Volvo XC70 has been successfully "grazing" for a long time, Subaru Outback and the like.

The application, I must say, is serious, at least in terms of price: starting from 1,741,000 rubles. - a small dirty trick to many direct competitors, given that there is no alternative ("mechanics") to a 6-speed "automatic" in this case. For this money there will be a 2-liter turbodiesel (160 hp), a little more expensive (1,806,000 rubles) - a 1.6-liter gasoline turbo engine (170 hp), however, front-wheel drive.

4x4 versions - only with 2-liter engines: the same turbodiesel or its forced up to 195 hp. option, or with the most powerful gasoline 249-horsepower 2-liter unit.

The latter, respectively, the most expensive - 1,976,000 rubles. without options (a 195-horsepower turbodiesel is 20,000 rubles cheaper). The standard equipment of the top-end configuration includes an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, designed to increase directional stability on the highway and improve off-road flotation.

For its segment, the interior is obscenely sporty and rich. The design of the front is reminiscent of the cockpit of a racing boat. And the quality of the materials is quite premium.

In my opinion...

Opelevsky Country Tourer should not be placed in three-quarters, as in the photographs here, but strictly in profile. Sit down on the bench opposite and get aesthetic pleasure. Beautiful impossible! Kluvast, impetuous - a sedan and is not good for soles. And besides, if you lift the tailgate, it damnably resembles the Saab 900 so dear to the heart. By the way, the driving habits of this station wagon also resurrected the clan of Swedish “rocket cars” of the last generations before bankruptcy. The steering wheel with a thickened rim lying in the hand is superbly comfortable, the “thoroughbred” dense running gear, brakes that are clear without a shadow of lethargy ... And how assertive the turbo engine is when accelerating a heavy car!

In my opinion...

The body kit made of black matte plastic, encircling the car, means that it is ready for off-road trips or at least a primer. But the claimed ground clearance for the Insignia Country Tourer is 175mm. That's just 15mm more than the regular Insignia Sports Tourer wagon. However, even this modest figure is hard to believe - except to tear off the skirt under the front bumper. But, I suppose, this will happen anyway at the very first exit from the asphalt, because with a car length of almost 5 m and with such overhangs about geometric patency may not be remembered. Volvo XC70 and Subaru Outback with a clearance of 210 and 200 mm, respectively, are much more preferable for owners of a summer cottage in a godforsaken outback. The main trump card of the “lifted” Insignia is four-wheel drive. Together with excellent handling, it fully reveals the character of the car in the rain or on winter road. True, there is almost no difference in the operation of shock absorbers in the Sport and Tour modes - apparently, the considerable weight of the car affects. In the end, it's just a convenient practical station wagon, which is a pleasure to drive. The drive to open the trunk to different heights is worth something! Although it's a shame that in the city you can not hang the front bumper over any curb.

In my opinion...

In the kaleidoscope of test vehicles, few really stand out. So, Insignia Country Tourer succeeded. Despite the fact that I am not a fan of Opel, I did not find any obvious shortcomings in road behavior or equipment within the price and purpose of this model. Everything is more than worthy: it looks and rides richer than you expect. Yes, and ergonomic progress compared to the pre-styling Insignia is obvious. There, I was annoyed to no small extent by the center console with a huge number of small buttons that were difficult to hit blindly. Apparently, I'm not the only one so fastidious, and now the Insignia has quite sane climate control panels and multimedia. But the main thing, perhaps, is not this. A wide range of adjustments of the driver's seat, its shape and padding density make it really comfortable to sit behind the wheel for a long time, which is important on long road trips.

As for driving performance, everything is very balanced here. Quite a rather large car unexpectedly easily follows the informative gas pedal, accurately “writes” the trajectory set by the steering wheel on a high-speed arc, but at the same time practically does not make the driver “sweat” when driving. The process of driving occurs as if by itself, and even road bumps, thanks to a comfortable energy-intensive suspension, remain in a different reality, outside the cabin. So is everything perfect? Of course not. There would be a car, but there is always something to complain about. In this case, you don't want to do it. In general, I liked this car as it is, and I forgive her little things ...

Outcome

The heirs of Adam Opel do not eat their bread in vain and honor the precepts of the founder of the brand. Opel Insignia Country Tourer is another clear proof of this - this car is made with care for the driver and passengers. And this, perhaps, is more important than the brand's super prestige, expensive "show-offs" and the manufacturer's desire to make it the coolest. In this case, the key word is "balance". These are very worthy driving performance, comfort, design, level of equipment and materials. Price and then, against the background of competitors, sane, although there is no need to talk about wide availability.

Insignia replaced the Vectra in the middle class and surpassed its predecessor in all respects. Insignia is a whole new level of quality, design and technology. Initially, the car was offered only with a sedan body, a hatchback and station wagon appeared a little later.

The car looks solid and at the same time fast and aggressive. Smooth curves, harmonious lines and a sloping roof line emphasize the dynamic appearance of the car. Speakers wheel arches give the car a muscular, but at the same time graceful look. Expressive headlights and a solid radiator grill form a single dynamic structure that emphasizes the uniqueness of body shapes. The developers of the Opel Insignia have made great efforts to reduce aerodynamic drag (the coefficient is Cd=0.27) and the noise level from air flows while driving. The complex cascading design of the hood creates a unique play of light and shadow and emphasizes the dynamism and emotionality of the body. And the characteristic wing-shaped headlights make this car unique in its own way.

In addition to the sporty body design, the car has a best-in-class interior. The car is offered in three finishes. Salon configuration Elegance trimmed in dark brown plastic with overlays "titanium" with a spectacular mesh texture. The Sport version received black plastic and chairs trimmed with a “non-slip” fabric in a large rib. In addition, this package is distinguished by overlays painted in piano lacquer. Top-performance Cosmo can be identified by wooden inserts and combined leather/fabric trim.

Excellent basic equipment can be supplemented by a wide range of new systems: electronic assistant Opel Eye, as well as Adaptive Forward Lightning (headlight turning radius - 15 degrees, additional lights - 90 degrees). With the light of its headlights, the Insignia does wonders. They can shine both as a low beam and as a distant one, and in seven different modes. In order not to blind oncoming drivers, to better see the side of a country road, to illuminate a turn or switch to city mode, the driver does not need to do anything. Several sensors and a small video camera suspended on the interior rear-view mirror will transmit the necessary data to the powerful processor, and the computer itself will select the required mode of operation of the xenon headlights. The same camera constantly transmits an image of the road and traffic conditions to the computer, which, by processing the video image, is able to isolate clear and well-read signs from it. traffic and road markings. The car will notify the driver about recognized signs with pictograms on dashboard, and if the driver violates the instructions, Insignia will remind you of the error with an audible signal.

The standard modification is equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline “four” with a capacity of 115 hp. The next step is a 1.8 l / 140 hp engine. Next come two turbo engines - 1.6 l / 180 hp. and 2.0 l / 220 hp The top-end for the Insignia was a 2.8-liter V8 Turbo with 260 hp. Presented in the line power units and diesels: 2.0 l/110 hp, 2.0 l/130 hp and 2.0 l. / 160 hp All engines comply with Euro-5 standards. In the basic version, the model is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed "automatic" is an option.

Insignia also has a modification with all-wheel drive(basic version comes with front-wheel drive), where the torque is transmitted to rear axle Haldex4 system. On all-wheel drive versions, the vehicle's chassis incorporates the FlexRide Dynamic Stability Control (AST) system, which makes the vehicle adapt to changing driving conditions and allows the driver to adjust the suspension and other systems from hard sporty settings to soft comfortable ones.

Opel Insignia scored the maximum number of points during the tests and received the title of the safest car according to the results of the annual EuroNCAP crash tests.

The official display of the updated Opel Insignia took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2013. The car is presented in three versions - a four-door sedan, five-door hatchback and the Insignia Sports Tourer station wagon. German designers carried out filigree restyling, giving the car a more modern, solid and stylish look.

There were no cardinal changes in the appearance of the model. Headlights with LED filling narrowed - a stylish and complex geometric pattern in the bowels of the headlights looks original. The radiator grille has become wider and lost the chrome strips - now they are glossy black. Front bumper, having become larger, acquired round foglights on black inserts with exquisite chrome corners, a solid aerodynamic body kit. Opel designers claim that the minimum drag coefficient they have managed to achieve in the updated car is an impressive 0.25.

The stern of the updated Insignia has acquired a new massive bumper and original lampshades for overall lighting with LED lamps and a branded chrome trim. Rear lights station wagon, despite its simplicity and compactness, look stylish. But the aft lighting equipment of the sedan is complemented by a chrome bar.

The facelift did not affect dimensions body. For sedan and hatchback, dimensions are 4830mm long, 1856mm (with 2084mm exterior mirrors) wide, 1498mm high, 2737mm wheelbase. The 2014 Insignia Sports Tourer wagon is larger: 4908mm long, 1856mm wide, 1520mm high, with a 2737mm wheelbase. The ground clearance (clearance) of the Insignia versions for the Russian market is 160 mm.

For painting the body of the Opel Insignia 2014, twelve enamel options are offered: basic - Summit White (white) and Royal Blue (blue), metallics - Sovereign Silver (light silver), Silver Lake (dark silver), Magnetic Silver (silver), Luxor (dark blue), Mahogany (dark brown), Carbon Flash (black), Power Red (diamond red), Mother-of-Pearl - Waterworld (dark blue), Asteroid Gray (asteroid grey), Mercure Red (violet red) .

Depending on the configuration, the car is equipped with tires from a modest 215/60 R16 or 225/55 R17 to steel discs 16-17 radius, up to low profile 245/45 R18 and 245/40 R19 on 18-19 alloy wheels. A charged version of the Opel Insignia OPC rests on the ground with 245/35 R20 wheels with R20 forged alloy wheels.

An all-terrain wagon called the Country Tourer appeared in the lineup. This modification differs from the usual Insignia by a ground clearance increased by 20 mm to 180 mm and all-wheel drive, paintwork around the circle are protected by black plastic lining, which also gives the car a more “all-terrain” look.

The interior of the updated Opel Insignia has also changed quite significantly, mainly this fact concerns the front of the cabin. A new multifunctional steering wheel with a rim cut from below is installed in the car, the dashboard and front panels are completely redrawn, the configuration of the center console has changed. If earlier many complained about the clutter of elements, then Insignia 2014 no longer has this drawback: all elements are located so that the instruments are in sight, and at the same time there is no feeling of space being squeezed.

The abundance of buttons was replaced by two 8-inch color touch monitors. The first is installed in the instrument cluster and provides an excellent picture, a huge amount of information is displayed on the display, from the speedometer and tachometer radii to the on-board computer information, auxiliary functions settings and navigator pictures.

By the way, navigation system has changed and is now included in basic equipment. The picture has become more informative, a display of lanes of traffic and division into lanes has appeared, pointers to exits have become clearer.

The second touch screen is located on the center console. He is responsible for setting up a multimedia system with voice control, air conditioning, displaying navigator maps and pictures from the rear view camera. The climate control control unit is distinguished by the minimalism of the buttons and ease of operation.

It is a pity that such dashboard and the center console is available only in the most saturated trim levels. The basic version offers the classic three "wells", in the middle price versions, a 4.2-inch on-board computer display is installed.

It became possible to order as an option a system for recognizing road signs, tracking dead zones(with its help it was possible to minimize the problem of poor visibility in small side mirrors) and lane keeping. The new cruise control, operating at speeds up to 180 km / h, is able to completely stop and then accelerate the car. The picture is completed by a rear-view camera, which was not previously available in any configuration.

Luggage compartment station wagon Opel The Insignia Sports Tourer is capable of carrying between 540 and 1530 liters of cargo, depending on the position of the second row seats. The five-door Opel Insignia Hatchback is capable of taking on board from 530 to 1470 liters. The trunk of the sedan has the most modest capacity from 500 to 1015 liters.

We finalized the suspension, installed new levers and springs and reconfigured the shock absorbers. Versions with adaptive suspension FlexRide have modified the control program. Significantly improved handling of the car, steering it became more informative - there is still a hydraulic booster, but the steering column and rack have been finalized.

Under the hood, new diesel and gasoline engines appeared. The new Opel Insignia 2.0 CDTI diesel engine, depending on the degree of boost, produces 120 or 140 hp, the engine is equipped with a start-stop system and, paired with a 6 manual transmission, consumes only 3.7 liters of fuel when driving in mixed mode. A 2.0-liter unit with a capacity of 163 hp is also supplied to the Russian market. The top diesel is now 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI (195 hp and 400 Nm of torque).

The new 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine produces 170 hp. at 260 Nm. The 2.0-liter gasoline engine, after refinement, became 30 hp. more powerful - 250 liters. from. and 400 Nm of torque. The engines are equipped with a start-stop system and are paired with a 6 manual transmission or an automatic 6 automatic transmission. We hasten to clarify what is the most powerful gasoline engine for the Opel Insignia OPC 2.8 V6 Turbo (325 hp) will remain in the production program.

The basic equipment of the Opel Insignia 2014 is equipped with an air conditioning system, an audio system with a color LCD screen and a USB interface, a headlight washer, heated seats. Also in this car there are other advantages: adjustable rear-view mirrors, stabilization system and crankcase protection. If we talk about the more expensive Cosmo equipment, then it is supplemented by a parking sensors system, a rear-view camera and an IntelliLink multimedia system.

Test drive Opel Insignia. Ford Mondeo VS Opel Insignia: a million is not enough
Kolesa.Ru compared two well-equipped D-class sedans costing about 1,100,000 rubles, they were surprised at the dynamics of one and the usable space of the other. At the same time, we looked at competitors from other classes.

Opel Insignia in the Cosmo configuration with a 2.0 220-horsepower engine and a 6-speed "automatic" costs 1,162,300 rubles. Ford Mondeo (pre-styling) in the Titanium Black configuration with a 2.0-liter 203-horsepower engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission will cost a little less - 1,071,500 rubles.

The configurations of the cars are similar, the Opel has cruise control and a large color screen with the ability to display satellite navigation, while in the Mondeo the display is not on the center console, but between the speedometer and tachometer, and the set speed control is not in the list of standard equipment. But in Ford, power driver's seat is available, while in Opel they are offered as an option.

The interiors of the Insignia and Mondeo are equally impressive, despite the fact that one car is, in fact, a relatively new model, and the other is in its third year on the market. However, the space inside the Opel is organized in such a way that it seems as if the car envelops the driver more densely, but more comfortably, surrounding the necessary tools. Opel has a plumper steering wheel with the right bulges, and even flattened at the bottom, like in sports cars.

As for the main tools - the radio and climate control, in Opel it is more difficult to see the right key and "isolate" it from the gray mass. In Mondeo, on the contrary, the climate control buttons and the number buttons on the radio are made of silver plastic, and they are much easier to recognize on a black background. Another thing is that on the radio itself, some keys are made small, and the inscriptions on them are read more than once.

I was pleased that both cars had audio control buttons on the steering wheel. In Opel, cruise control can also be controlled from the steering wheel, and the on-board computer is controlled on the Mondeo steering wheel.

The engines of each of the sedans are much more powerful than a motorist who daily moves around the city and sometimes along the ring road can wish. Two-litre turbo engines carry sedans by leaps and bounds, but Opel does this by requiring literally millimeters of throttle. 20 hp Insignia motor more powerful than the Ford turbo engine, but it feels like the difference is 40-50 forces. However, in the updated range of Mondeo engines, the two-liter unit no longer produces 200, but 240 hp! Therefore, horse hunters are advised not to jump to conclusions...

Acceleration to 100 km/h Ford: 7.9 s
Acceleration to 100 km/h Opel: 7.8 s

Mondeo in the version we chose had the ability to select the suspension mode: "comfortable", "normal" and "sporty". Therefore, depending on the quality of the road surface and the degree of nervousness of the ride, the driver could choose what was more important for him: comfort, handling, or both. Interesting toy! And the test Insignia did not have the FlexRide system, which allows you to make similar settings for the Opel chassis. As a result, the steering of the Insignia left a double impression: on the one hand, the 17-inch low-profile wheels met the asphalt joints and other smallest bumps harshly, on the other hand, the handling could not be called sporty due to the noticeable rolls that arose, as it seems, due to the increased suspension travel - Russian cars have increased ground clearance.

Therefore, we recommend that potential Opel sedan owners install wheels with a higher profile and enjoy a smoother ride, or order cars with "European" ground clearance, if possible.

As for the Mondeo, its handling left a more pleasant impression. You can only blame the excessive sensitivity to ruts, being in which Ford now and then strove to rush to the side.

I liked the Opel chairs a little more - in particular, thanks to the retractable knee support. Yes, and the lateral support of the back is quite pronounced here to hold drivers of different builds. However, Ford is not inferior in terms of seating comfort, and thanks to electric adjustments, it also provides a more convenient seating setup.

The Mondeo is much more welcoming to rear row passengers. There is more space here than in the Insignia for both the knees and the head. In addition, the Mondeo has a much more capacious glove compartment, and besides - with cooling. It is a pity that now is not the time of year to appreciate it.

The view from the two cars is about the same, but the side mirrors of the Mondeo show a little more.

Trunk volume Ford: 550 l
Trunk volume Opel: 500 l

You can be sure that both top versions will not be the best-selling brands in the lines, largely due to the price - more than a million one hundred thousand rubles for a D-class sedan - this is too much for a large-scale success. For this money, you can take not only almost any crossover in a good configuration, but also sedans of a higher class, like a 1.8-liter turbocharged Skoda Superb or Nissan Teana with a Toyota Camry, assembled in Russia. True, the more modest dimensions of the D-class can be a trump card here: someone can refuse the additional cubic meters / kilograms that require increased energy consumption and additional parking space.

As for the choice between the two test cars, the Ford Mondeo seems to be a little more attractive: it seemed to be slightly better balanced in terms of comfort-handling and offers more space inside. Although Opel accelerates noticeably better and keeps a straight line a little better. Insignia is the choice of an emotional person, while Mondeo will be preferred by pragmatists.

The cars were provided by the Russian representative office of Ford Motor Company and Laura-Ozerki, the official dealer of Opel.
