Candles for viburnum 8 valves denso. Useful information about spark plugs. The procedure for replacing spark plugs on the Lada Kalina

My Kalina has already run a little over 40,000 km, and the factory candles still worked fine, despite the fact that the manufacturer recommends changing them once every 30,000 km. Well, I think I’ll try to buy and install new ones, maybe something will change for the better, but in principle it’s better not to, everything was fine in my opinion.

Went to the BBC, got a set of NGK spark plugs. Since the engine on my Kalina is 8-valve, then for my motor there were No. 13, and if you have a 16-valve engine, then you need to set No. 11.

I unscrewed the old ones and looked at them, everything seemed to be fine, only they were too red, and this indicates, first of all, that there were too many iron-containing additives in the gasoline with which I filled the car, which did not benefit in any way engine. Since I refueled mainly at one local gas station, I sin on it. Now we have to change gas stations.

I screwed in new candles and decided to try how they would work, and whether they would differ at least in some way from the factory ones. Kalina started up normally, after warming up the tachometer needle still barely noticeably floats, but if you don’t look closely, it’s simply impossible to determine the floating speed by ear. But when I started checking high revs, I was pleasantly surprised, the sound became much softer and this is clearly not self-hypnosis, since I have been listening to my 8-valve tractor for two years now and I can definitely feel the changes. Judging by the feeling, something began to resemble my old car with 1.5 16-cl. motor. But at idle, nevertheless, the gurgling did not stop, you can’t get rid of this in any way.

So, while I am satisfied with the replacement of candles, high speeds are now quiet and without unnecessary vibrations, as it was before. Let's see how good they are and how long they last. So far everything is great.

A couple of months ago I wrote a topic about replacing spark plugs on my Kalina. Instead of the factory ones, Brisk decided to try another manufacturer, namely NGK, it was too much positive feedback about them. Bought as always in the BBC set of candles and replaced. I did not set the gap, as the manufacturer assures that everything has already been set for the ideal operation of the engine.

After the replacement, no more than 1000 km passed and the first cylinder began to break through, this was especially noticeable at idle, when sharp dips in the engine were felt. I opened the hood and saw that the candle had burst around the entire perimeter, which I had previously written an article about. You can search in this section, who is interested, there is a photo. And instead I decided to put back the factory Birsk, which, although it was already red from long-term operation but worked great.

Since it's almost summer outside now, the usual bubbling and dieseling of a 1.6 8-valve engine, in theory, should not be, especially on a warm engine. But for some reason, on my Kalina, this gurgling was present even on a well-warmed engine, although this was not observed before installing NGK candles. So today I decided to unscrew and look at their condition. By appearance everything was fine with them, but then I noticed that the gap on the factory Brisk was more. I took out old spark plugs from the glove compartment and decided to use them to set the same gap on my NGK. Pay attention to the photo below:

On the left are the factory Brisks, and on the right are the new NGKs.

After doing this work, I decided to start the car and try to warm up to operating temperature to evaluate how much the new clearance has affected engine performance. Ride to the gas station about 20 km from the city. And here's what I can conclude:

  1. Diesel stopped on a fully warm engine.
  2. The sound of the engine has become quieter, especially when idling
  3. Pleasantly surprised by the fuel consumption. If with a small spark plug gap it was 5.8 - 6.2 liters, then after increasing to the factory Brisk, it became 4.8 - 5.2. Tested at a speed of 90 km / h. Moreover, during today's tests there was wind.

For myself, I concluded that you should not blindly trust the manufacturer and it is better to set the necessary clearance yourself and experiment a little, changing everything up or down. NGK brand products are now even more wary, as this is the second case with negative consequences.

According to technical regulations, spark plugs in engines 21116 and 21126 should be changed during TO-2, that is, after 30 thousand kilometers. In fact, this period can be extended one and a half times, if we are talking about a gentle mode of operation. But you should not do this if the car is under warranty (then the replacement is carried out according to the regulations). Here we list which spark plugs are suitable for each of these engines. We will assume that the owner of Kalina-2 uses the catalogs of the following companies: BERU, CHAMPION, NGK, DENSO, BRISK, BOSCH.

  • OJSC ZAZS (Russia) - AU17DVRM, A17DVRM;
  • BERU (Germany) - 14FR-7DU, 14R-7DU;
  • CHAMPION (England) - RC9YC, RN9YC;
  • NGK (Japan) - BCPR6ES, BPR6ES;
  • DENSO (Japan) - Q20PR-U11, W20EPR;
  • BRISK (Czech Republic) - DR15YC, LR15YC;
  • BOSCH (Germany) - FR7DCU, WR7DC.

On the left is the brand of the product suitable for a 16-valve engine, on the right - for an 8-valve. You may notice that candles with a thin electrode, iridium, etc. were not listed here. A thin electrode is then used to ensure ignition reliability at high speeds (7,000, 8,000 rpm or more), but cut-off is triggered for VAZ engines above 6,000 rpm. Iridium plugs have a thin center electrode in their design, but as we have already found out, the transition to the use of such parts is a waste of money, and nothing more. The durability of iridium candles approximately corresponds to the value of the "lifetime" of a candle with a standard section copper electrode. The choice is left to the owner.

A ceramic coating has appeared - we change the candles immediately!

By their own operational parameters, including durability, all components of the listed items almost do not differ from each other. This is confirmed by the reviews of car owners expressed on various forums, etc. Perhaps there are more expensive components, the use of which will allow a banal replacement to increase power, engine torque, or some other characteristics. But having installed such candles in the 21126 motor, most likely, you will have to forget about the guarantee for the AY-K3 box. With technology, it’s always like this: you need to imagine what exactly we are doing and what we want to achieve as a result.

Indications for replacing candles:

  • If black soot (“suede”) is present on the insulator cone and electrodes, then cleaning or replacement can be performed. Cleaning is carried out, including by heating. When replacing, it is better to use candles with a slightly lower glow number than before;
  • If the surface of the insulator looks like a yellowish glossy ceramic, then the spark plug needs to be replaced. In this case, a vitreous glaze is formed. It is electrically conductive.

In the first of the cases considered, carbon deposits are formed because not all elements of the candle are heated sufficiently, and self-cleaning does not occur. This can happen when the car is used for short trips with low speeds, frequent starts and stops. The same effect is typical for the operation of the motor at low temperatures. Logically, in such situations, the recommended replacement would be a candle with a lower glow number than was provided by the manufacturer. You can try to install candles A14DVRM instead of A17DVRM in an 8-valve engine, and so on. Only now, such a replacement must be discussed with the dealer.

Comparison of analogues A17DVRM, released under different brands

One of the online publications conducted a comparative test of spark plugs designed for the VAZ-21116 engine. Analogues of the A17DVRM candle supplied by the following companies were tested:

  • APS, Bosch, Brisk - Russian production;
  • Bosch Platinum, Beru, Finwhale - Germany;
  • NGK, Denso - Japan;
  • Eyquem - France;
  • Champion - "Made in the European Union".

Note that testing was carried out on an 8-valve VAZ-2111 engine (injectors, lambda probe, without catalyst, "January-5.1"). All measurements were carried out on the stand.

Spark plug selection for 8-valve engine 21116

The result of the performed tests is presented in the photo in the form of graphs. As you can see, it still makes sense to buy imports: the use of Bosch spark plugs, as well as products from the Finwhale, Brisk and Champion brands will provide a noticeable increase in power. If you want to save on fuel, then ask NGK products in stores. Additional comments are unnecessary here.

Forced engines are characterized by an increased compression value, and VAZ engines are no exception. By installing Brisk spark plugs, you can not worry about the presence of a spark at high pressure. But note that NGK candles have similar characteristics. It turns out that it is NGK products that need to be considered the best choice However, fakes under this brand have recently appeared. And the "remake", it seems, is now coming from France, as described in the film.

The line of cars from VAZ - Priora, Kalina and Grant are very similar in many ways. Each of these cars have various modifications With various engines. But, in fact, the main difference in the motors of these models is only in the number of valves.

Spark plugs for Priora, Kalina and Grant differ only depending on whether the 8- or 16-valve engine is installed, regardless of the generation or year of manufacture of the car. original spare part all three models are supplied by the Russian company OAO ZAZS.

Spark plugs for Kalina, Priora and Grant - which ones to choose?

Lada Kalina(1st and 2nd generations), Granta and Priora were equipped with both 8 and 16-valve engines. And although they differed for each car, they are still structurally very similar. Therefore, the spark plugs on all three cars were installed the same, there are differences only in the articles. Candles, as mentioned above, on all cars differ only depending on the number of valves in the engine.

In the original, conventional nickel candles are installed on all three cars, with one ground electrode. The main differences between the candle for 8- and 16-valve valves are the size of the key for screwing it in.

More details about the sizes and original articles in the table below.

* According to Champion nomenclature (Russian standard)

Despite the fact that each car has a different part number of the original candles, they are interchangeable. original candles can be found on sale and directly from the manufacturer "ZAZS". For 8 valve motors they have the article A17DVRM, and for the 16-valve - AU17DVRM.

Most famous models substitutes from other manufacturers are presented below.

As polls on some popular automotive communities of Runet show, the most popular brands among owners of VAZs of the tenth family are NGK and Denso. In addition to the usual, nickel candles, the owners of the cars described in the article often resort to installing more advanced, iridium ones. Their service life is stably three times higher than usual, and even more. In addition, they further improve the responsiveness of the motor. The most popular candles for these cars are from Denso. For 16 cells. this is IK20 at a price of 520 rubles / piece, and for 8 cells. - IW20, price - 590 rubles / piece.

When to change spark plugs on Prior, Kalina and Grant?

According to the maintenance regulations for Lada Kalina, Granta and Priora, spark plugs must be changed every 30 thousand km. mileage, regardless of the configuration of the car, or how many valves the engine has. But, this indicator is strongly influenced by some factors, such as fuel quality, operating conditions, etc. Therefore, in fact, their service life averages somewhere around 20-25 thousand km.

Replacing spark plugs on Lada Kalina is a very simple and not too expensive procedure. However, it is far from always necessary to replace consumables, it is quite possible that old candles will serve you a little more.

How often do you need ignition

The standard interval for replacing spark plugs at a VAZ can vary within a fairly wide range - from 30 thousand kilometers for ordinary (standard) and up to 80 thousand for modern iridium and platinum ones. As with any other consumables, fluctuations are possible, the main factors influencing which are the condition of the engine and ignition system, fuel quality and the nature of vehicle operation. For example, if you often drive short distances around the city, then even with the normal operation of all car systems, the candles are usually covered with black soot quite quickly, as they do not reach the required temperature for self-cleaning.

Do it visually. If you find only a slight darkening and a small grayish-yellow or pale brown coating on dry electrodes that have not lost their shape, you can safely return the candles to their place and drive on.

If a significant coating of black or white or a shade of rust is found, oiling is already a reason to think about replacing them or at least cleaning them. Cleaning can be done by soaking the spark plugs in gasoline or special liquid and gently remove plaque with a brush or fine sandpaper. At the same time, be sure to check the gap of the spark plugs between the electrodes using probes. It will almost certainly be different from the recommended 1-1.1 mm. To continue operation, it must be restored by carefully bending the side electrode. But keep in mind that this is more of a temporary measure, after which the period for replacing spark plugs will pass much faster than with new ones.

It is best to discard electrodes if they:

  • Heavily polluted
  • Lost shape
  • melted down
  • broken off
  • Have damage on the insulator

By the way, their condition is usually direct evidence of the presence of more serious problems, or the unwillingness of the car owner to perform maintenance on time. Like all other consumables, it is better to change candles regularly and in a timely manner. But what better candles ignition for Kalina?

Spark plugs must be replaced when scheduled maintenance car, especially given the quality of gasoline in our country. It is worth thinking about replacing when preparing the car for winter. In this article, we will look at how to clean or, if necessary, replace the candles on the Lada Kalina.

How are spark plugs made?

Spark plugs are a device for igniting fuel-air mixture in the engine. They consist of a metal case, an insulator and a center conductor. They are located in the spark plug wells, which, in turn, are located in the engine cylinder heads. Attached to the top high voltage wires supply voltage to the spark gap.

Experienced motorists advise changing them every 20-30 thousand kilometers. Or earlier, if the condition of these parts requires it. So, the need to replace candles on Kalina can be indicated by problems with the starter, a decrease in engine power, car twitches and vibration while driving.

Spark plug replacement process

Before the replacement procedure, it is advisable to blow or wipe the casing and cylinder head. This is done to prevent dust, dirt and debris from entering the engine block, which can lead to disastrous consequences.

For work we need: a 10 mm head, candle key or a 16 head with extension (For eight valve engines you will need a 21 head with extension).

Step-by-step instructions for replacing candles on Kalina with a 16-valve engine

  • With a sharp jerk upwards, remove the plastic casing of the engine.
  • We disconnect the wires from the ignition coils, after which we unscrew the fixing bolts with a 10 key and remove the coils from the candle well.
  • We unscrew the candle with a key of 16 and insert a new one.

Step-by-step instructions for replacing candles on Kalina with an 8-valve engine

  • Remove the wire end (do not be afraid to make a little effort).
  • We unscrew the candle with a key of 21 and change it to a new one.

When installing candles, you should not make excessive efforts, otherwise you can break the thread of the well, which is fraught with costly repairs. In Kalina, the replacement of candles for 1.4 liters and 1.6 liters of engines is similar.

Possible breakdowns and their causes

There are many reasons why candles can fail. This can happen due to oil or carbon contamination, destruction of the insulator, mechanical damage, rupture of the jumper, etc. Realistically, you can only deal with pollution. In all other cases, you will have to think about replacing the part.

There are three main cleaning methods: the digestion method, the sandblasting method and the ultrasonic cleaning method. Due to the fact that ultrasonic cleaning requires specialized equipment, we will focus on the remaining two methods.

digestion method

The essence of this method is that you need to boil candles in water with washing powder for an hour. This method will allow you to clean the part from contamination without damaging the case. It is worth noting that after cleaning they give an unstable yellow spark, which can cause problems at high speeds.

Sandblasting Method

The part is being cleaned compressed air supplied from the sandblaster. Unlike the first method, after such cleaning, the candles completely restore their original parameters and give a good blue spark. However, this method only works with single-electrode electrodes, since the ceramic cone is more accessible in them than in multi-electrode ones.
