At the 70‑thousand run on braking, the pedal began to “tremble”. Suspicion fell on the front brake discs. They were checked by measuring the axial runout - the preliminary diagnosis was confirmed. Perhaps the disks led after several intensive braking. The brake discs were replaced, of course, along with - the vibration disappeared.

At 73,000 km, periodic dips and jerks appeared at low speeds and lower gears. On city trips, especially during peak traffic jams, this was very annoying. In addition, the signal lit up on the instrument panel ruffled the nerves check engine. Diagnostics showed a "misfire" error. We checked the spark plugs, replaced the high-voltage wires, carefully examined the wiring, using diagnostic equipment tested the ignition module - everything is normal. However, the engine continued to twitch. While we were thinking what to do next, a miracle happened - the engine started to work smoothly again. And the disease never showed up again. Wonders...

At 88,000 km, another control lamp lit up, announcing a malfunction of the ABS. The cause was quickly determined: the sensor wire on the rear wheel fell off. Moreover, this malfunction arose again - shortly before that, the sensor had already been repaired. Repair combined with replacement brake drums along with the pads: the old grinding noise when braking. Disassembly showed uneven wear. At the same time, the rear wheel bearing was replaced, which already had a fair amount of play.

The biggest trouble lay in wait for Grant at 89,900 km. More than a hundred kilometers from Moscow, the engine suddenly lost power and stalled, and attempts to start it were unsuccessful. On a rope, Lada proceeded to the technical center, where she received a disappointing verdict: a jammed water pump cut off the teeth on the timing belt, the phases shifted and the pistons met the valves. And after all, nothing foreshadowed trouble: the pump pulley did not play, there were no alarming noises and whistles, and the belt was changed at 75,000 km.

Dismantling the engine reassured me a little: only the valves were damaged. True, all eight. The pistons are intact, although there are marks on them from a sudden meeting. You can say they got away little blood- Valves had to be replaced valve stem seals, engine gaskets, pump and timing belt with roller. Spare parts lightened the pocket by about 8,000 rubles, and the work was done on their own - on the side repair cost would be another eight thousand.

Judging by the feedback on the Internet forums, we are far from the only ones with whom such a nuisance happened. And the culprit of a serious engine repair turned out to be, again, a failed water pump. We will try to figure out what the reason is and will tell about it in the next reports. And Grant is back in the ranks and continues to wind up the mileage.

AvtoVAZ understands this, and in this, 2018 the car passed a small restyling, but completely new generation will appear in 2021-2023. It will be based on the B0 platform developed by the Renault-Nissan alliance, which has subsequently undergone a major upgrade. By the way, it will be used in the design and Logan in a new body.

In 2018, the update only affected appearance models and interior technical part will remain completely the same. Thanks to this, it is not worth waiting for a significant increase in the price of the new Lada Grant. The main changes are a new front like Vesta.

New body options

It is noteworthy that after the update, the new Grant completely replaced the Kalina family, which was discontinued. In the future, AvtoVAZ will have only one model budget cars. In addition to the traditional sedan and liftback, a hatchback with a station wagon and a cross-station wagon have now appeared in the lineup. No matter how hard it is to guess, these will be practically copies of Kalina but with the Granta badge. As a result, the line of modifications will look like this:

First images from updated sedan, which will receive the prefix FL (Facelifting), appeared on social networks in early 2018. It was reported that the photo showing the prototype with a camouflage film applied to it was taken in Togliatti on the territory of the VAZ technical and scientific center. At the end of July, AvtoVAZ completely declassified the updated family.

Analyzing the available pictures, it is noticeable that the shape of the trunk of the new sedan has been slightly changed, and the front part of the body has become somewhat narrower, in the style of Vesta. After the update, all Granta will also get a front panel from Kalina with minor changes.

Release date and prices

Restyled Lada Granta 2018 should be presented already during Moscow Motor Show already at the end of this summer, however, production has already begun on August 14th.

Prices for the new 2018 Lada Grant sedan and liftback will remain at the same level, the only question is how much the hatchback and cross wagon will cost, because Kalina, from which the models will come, was positioned a little more expensive.

"Second" Grant will use the upgraded Globak Access platform ( B0) developed by Renault. The same platform is planned to be used in the next generations of Logan.

Interestingly, the platform from Renault, which is being prepared for the new Grants, is quite universal - it will also be used in the next generation of off-road Lada 4x4. Such a solution is not new and has already been used in the Duster and Logan models.

All cars using one platform will leave the Togliatti conveyor. By 2021, Renault, which owns the domestic AvtoVAZ, plans to increase the production of cars, in numerical terms, bringing them to a million copies a year. All produced models will receive a unified platform.


No one knows what the next generation will look like, these are just designers' fantasies.

It’s too early to talk about the appearance and prices of the new Grants: the design is still in the process of development, and the cost will, of course, grow predictably: gradually AvtoVAZ is moving away from the image of a budget car manufacturer (one has only to look at the prices of Vesta and Khrey), how far it will go - time will tell .

According to some reports, the next Granta will appear by 2023, however, there is evidence that this can happen earlier - to 2021. Who will lead this project is already known. Vasily Batishchev, who was still working on the creation of the “first” generation, was appointed chief engineer, and Olga Bazhanova, who was previously responsible for Priora, will become the project manager.

Before presenting the Grant in a new body, in 2018 the existing model is waiting for a small facelift (see above). At the same time, the Kalina lineup may cease to exist, and its modifications will be included in the Granta family.

The worst fears were justified: again a broken belt, again repairing the cylinder head due to the meeting of valves with pistons. The reason for the break was, apparently, the poor quality of the belt. The valves were replaced again by the forces of our technical center, and the machine continued to serve in the editorial office.

But the "heart" diseases did not end there. After another long run, I decided to check the oil level: it was below normal. Although shortly before that he pulled out the dipstick - and the oil column almost reached the maximum. They began to understand the causes of the maslozhora. First of all, we checked the compression: it was low and the same in all cylinders - about 10 bar. With such indicators, it is possible to delay the invasion of the engine. But when the candles were unscrewed, they noted that the threaded parts were pretty oily. And the velvety soot on the candles clearly indicated that the oil still gets into the cylinders.

There is nowhere to go - once again we remove the head of the block. The surface of the combustion chambers in the head is covered with a thick oil coating, and the piston of the third cylinder is completely washed with oil. Now it is clear where it goes.

The study of the surface of the cylinders was even more depressing. The mirror shows deep vertical marks around the entire circumference of the cylinder - as frequent as on a nail file. The third and fourth cylinders suffered more severely, the other two had small risks. But what could scratch the mirror like that? It is likely that fine sand or dust has entered the cylinders. When and what could happen is not clear. There are two options: the abrasive could get either when replacing candles, or through the air intake channel.

The diameter of the cylinders was measured with a caliper. Wear in the third and fourth exceeded 0.08 mm - this is along the tops of the same comb. And in the depressions, this figure is even more significant. Obviously, a little blood can not get off.

Without removing the cylinder block from the car, they took out the pistons. The rings are not stuck, but are also streaked with risks. They walked along the grooves gnawed in the walls of the cylinder, and even compacted the cylinder well, which was confirmed by tolerable traction and compression. But it was obvious that further wear would progress rapidly. The side surfaces of the pistons are also scratched - for replacement.

Thus, our Grant, who had not reached the six-digit values ​​​​on the odometer, was waiting for us. The unit was dismantled and taken to the workshop of the old one - he took over all the measuring and plumbing work. And the cylinder block crankshaft They gave it to a specialized company for machining. A few days later we took the engine completely ready for operation. It was not only brought back to life, but also finalized. In particular, pistons with grooves were installed - these do not meet with valves when the timing belt breaks.

By this run, the box was also capricious. She was crippled by an old disease of the VAZ front-wheel drive models: an unpleasant crunch when the second gear was engaged. We decided to take time for the box while the engine was removed, so as not to dismantle it twice. It turned out that all the details that affect the inclusion of the second gear are worn out in the trash. The first and second gear synchronizer clutch, as well as the driven gear and the second gear synchronizer, went under the replacement.

Cylinder block

It was:

  • abrasive wear of the working surfaces of the cylinders by up to 0.08 mm
  • ellipse of cylinders up to 0.04 mm

At the same time, a new clutch kit was installed. Release bearing was completely dry and creaked in every way. He sawed through the petals of the basket, and the driven disk was worn out by more than two-thirds. By the way, when removing the box, a rare defect was found - turning the silent blocks of the extension in the front suspension arm. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that the elastic came off the inner and outer bushings.

Looking back at Granta's life, we can conclude that a car designed and manufactured in Russia is still a kind of lottery. Take at least two main units that required major repairs - for most competitors, they require intervention much later. At the same time, the suspension worked quite stably for our Grants (we changed only two wheel bearings; by the way, this is also the case for Lada cars frequent malfunction) and steering. Electrical equipment sensors turned out to be unreliable - for example, they had to be replaced ABS sensors and clutch pedals.

Crankshaft

The body is slowly starting to rot. Corrosion appeared on the inner surface of the doors, and not in the hemming area, but higher, under the seal. Went redzhet front fenders and sills. It can be seen that a hundred thousand kilometers was not easy for the car.

The cost per kilometer has recently increased, not only due to the repair of two main units, but also due to the continuous increase in fuel prices. No less important is another expense item: how much will the car lose in price, how much can it be sold for?

Like many other cars, Lada Grant has its own weak spots commonly referred to as "diseases". Some "diseases" will not keep you waiting long and will manifest themselves already in the first time of operation, while others will make themselves felt only with more or less high mileage. Some of the problems have been recognized by the manufacturer and can be fixed in salons official dealers, while the other part will have to be solved independently.

Approximately half of the cars sold, after a short run, upset their owners with a breakdown of the generator. Repairing a native part will solve the problem only for a while, so it’s worth installing a generator from Kalina.

The second problem is a broken thermostat. As a result, in winter, the engine does not warm up above 70 degrees, or even at a temperature of 100 degrees, the fan does not work. The solution is to replace the thermostat with an analogue from VAZ 21082 or from Kalina.

On the idling engine vibration is felt in the cabin. Officially, this problem is not recognized, and therefore the way out is to pull the mounting pads.

Strongly tightened pipes under the hood after a while begin to crack in the places where the clamp is tightened. You can save the situation by loosening the clamps.

Hard plastic in the cabin is far from the best design solution for modern car, but this, at least, can be reconciled due to the lack of creaking. Annoying here is another problem - the creak of the ceiling sheathing, which most often manifests itself at negative air temperatures. Also, the owners of Lada Granta complain about a crack at the top of the windshield or rear window, saloon lamp and poor sound insulation. There is no official solution to the problem yet, so you will either have to change the skin and improve sound insulation, or turn on the music louder. On-board computer does not always display data on instantaneous fuel consumption, which is one of its main tasks. The glove box lid sometimes opens if you close it before the first louder click.
