The better the Grand Cherokee from the Ford Explorer. American War: Jeep Grand Cherokee Vs Ford Explorer Vs Dodge Durango (2012). What do they look like from the outside?

USA is the birthplace of jeeps. And, of course, all three American concerns put on the market a whole range of SUVs. The subject of our attention was the class, where two models are very fresh - Chevrolet TrailBlazer and Ford Explorer 2002 model year, and the third - Jeep Grand Cherokee- called "new" until now.

The whole trinity has a similar dimension, frame structure and five-door bodies. V8 engines are also close: 4.7 l / 258 hp. (Jeep); 4.6 l / 242 hp (Ford) and the most powerful 4.2 l / 272 hp. (Chevrolet). But this is where the similarity almost ends, because each model is very distinctive and deserves separate close consideration. Separately, we have already written about them, but we have not yet pushed them head-on (in a figurative sense, of course).

What is the most important thing in an SUV? That's right - the drive. The TrailBlazer has a plug-in front end that is operated by a panel knob rather than a lever, 2 Hi - 4 Hi - 4 Low. That is, on dry land, in on-road mode, this is a typical classic with all the pluses and minuses. I personally see more benefits. I like, using remarkable (especially by American standards) "Blazer" power, to arrange races on asphalt. A heavy machine not connected by an extra pair of wheels allows you to put yourself into a controlled skid, where an increase in gas in a turn easily puts it “nose into the center of the circle”, and in this position, slightly beyond the edge of the skid, the trajectory is perfectly tracked. The 4x4 mode is atypical for the TrailBlazer and is rarely used. But aptly - Chevy “rows” on viscous soil, too, be healthy - if you want, you won’t stop. This is especially surprising if you look at the very summer tires. Only terribly low overhead rapids overshadow the cheerful and confident tread of the GM-offspring through gullies. At every bend, the SUV strives to sit on them and hopelessly hang out one of the furiously spinning wheels. We immediately realized that the TrailBlazer does not really distinguish between sticky and slippery surfaces from asphalt and rushes over them like a heavy tank, not looking for a rut too much. But this tank is already sitting very low, “Sportline”, and on any serious irregularities it will quickly become an immovable target for enemy artillery. One has only to get back on the firmament of asphalt, and Chevy again begins to provoke me to exploits. Its streamlined, self-confident "nose" involuntarily pushes apart the discordant rows of "teapots", relaxedly dispersed along the wide Moscow roads, like drifting ice floes.

The gearbox selector on the tunnel, and not under the steering wheel, like most "Americans", is more psychologically convenient - you don't have to pull it. Surprisingly, the traditional definition of a driver's car does not fit in with an overseas SUV. But in motion the soul sings - the car is powerful, light (two tons are not felt at all) and, oddly enough, accurate - you don’t want to get out from behind the wheel. Even better, stop and look around. After all, the TrailBlazer salon is not particularly happy. Echoing, inexpensive, rough plastic is taken as if from another opera or even a simple musical, and the variety of differently shaped buttons and keys makes you train your memory and develop your imagination. But for the dashing temper, I forgive the "Trailblazer" (it's inconvenient to pronounce in Russian, right?) These little things. Otherwise, it would turn out such a “chocolate on wheels” that you can’t find fault with.

Well, we climb into Ford, well studied by us and even tortured during the last rendezvous. Ford seems to be made for the country road. Asphalt is not his element. Quite good, albeit the most moderate dynamics in our trio does not benefit the heavy “swinging” jeep. And it is quite realistic, carried away by the right pedal, not to catch a car rushing strictly in a straight line in one of the turns. But on the other hand, as soon as you get off the asphalt, you are imbued with respect for the passenger version of the F-150 pickup truck. On it you can easily and unobtrusively ride not along the track, but across. The capacious suspension, which feels like a spring one, swallows even large and sharp edges of ditches that have dried up tightly over the past summer. Only with such roughness of manners, annoying on the pavement, the Explorer is able to calmly fly over any bumps without causing any particular inconvenience to riders. You feel something similar only on three-axle Urals and KamAZ trucks: the road is somewhere far below, and it doesn’t matter which one, it shakes a little, but the main thing is that it’s cozy and calm in the cabin, and the shortest way to the goal is the shortest.

But these are not the only advantages of Explorer, in whose cabin for the first time in history American SUVs you feel absolutely like in a European passenger car. No, you just don’t think that the steering column poker-switch has disappeared - it is in place, but otherwise the controls and information are quite civilized and even reduced to a common denominator of quality and form. Armchairs are now also quite anatomical, repeating the contours of the body with inverse accuracy in a fairly wide range of physiques. But a particularly advantageous difference between the Explorer and its competitors is the colossal volume of the passenger part. It is bright, spacious and safe. The three of you sit simply royally.

It is immediately noticeable that Chevrolet and Ford are models new generation at least in comparison with relatives. Against their background, a three-year Jeep Grand Cherokee looks familiar, although, in all honesty, it is the most elegant in our test. Just looked too closely at him for many years. How is it "for a lot"? Calculate for yourself: the previous model, so popular in Russia, has become so familiar that the current one, built on its motives, is perceived as restyling. Although it is worth recalling that the Grand Cherokee New is drawn completely from scratch. It’s just that the predecessor was so successful that the novelty was stylistically “disguised”. But she has noticeably increased dynamism and charm. And you feel it as soon as you get behind the wheel. Jeep has permanent four-wheel drive and it will not be possible to ride on one drive axle - well, quite unambiguously and like a man. On any surface, from the “autobahn” of the Moscow Ring Road to sandy and rocky hillocks and marshy slurry, you feel a strong connection with the road at all four points. This stability plus easy softness plus remarkable dynamics sometimes create the illusion that you are the king of the hill and the king of the road.

Yes and in Salon Grand Cherokee is the most "limousine" environment - spacious in length and width passenger seats, perfect noise isolation and a powerful speaker system. Although it is very inconvenient to control music - the regular "Cherok" radio tape recorder has a too sophisticated control algorithm. But in all other respects Cherokee is a song. "Grand" is not only fast and strong, it is also beautifully finished. Thick "pork" and laconic control knobs, ergonomic seats and clear instruments - rarely anyone who bought a Jeep regrets his choice. Well, wouldn’t it be a pity to ruin such a handsome man on the road? Still, Ford is a farmer by origin, and although Chevrolet has low thresholds, you can tear them off if you completely “get it”. Comparing three cars on the same pits, hills, stones and gullies, I discovered with undisguised surprise that the best geometric cross-country ability is with Jeep. It absolutely easily “steps” over transverse obstacles and desperately dashingly crawls onto steep walls. The only thing that can be damaged is rear bumper: nevertheless, its length is too big, and when the “muzzle” lifts up steeply, it is easy for them to scoop up earth or sand. But at all distortions you clearly feel that “under the saddle” is a full-fledged frame jeep with its inherent rigidity and thoroughness.

Interestingly, the whole trinity has a lot of common, purely American - very pleasant and convenient for the driver and passengers - features. For example, in order to throw purchases from a supermarket cart into the trunk, it is not at all necessary to open a massive and bulky back door - it is enough to lift its glass on separate hinges. It follows from this that there are no suspended spares on the "gate" here. And yet, which has been very noticeable lately, including on the presented SUVs, the American origin, although it “sticks out” from every detail, is not to the same smug degree as before. The quality of the finish and the accuracy of execution have grown noticeably and have reached a completely European level.

What do they look like from the outside?

It is not often possible to bring together genuine, and not random competitors, and even one “nationality”. A Big Three classic. It is for them that European and Oriental eyes are watching day and night. It is from them that dozens of managers of competing firms are waiting for miscalculations or mistakes, waiting to fill the gap that has formed. So I want to say: do not wait. But these are emotions. And on the one hand, we were lucky, but this is unlikely for us, the experts, for the buyer - the choice is very difficult. So, from the “face” each of the trio develops in its own way the traditional family traits inherent only to this concern or department. At first glance, it is easiest for the “Jeep” - its “look” is the most conservative, which means it is familiar and immediately recognizable. But design... Time is merciless even for the classics of the genre. Two novelties at once: Chevrolet's branded "cross" that cuts through the front optics and a new, more characteristic "face" of the Explorer. In general, it was the Ford SUV that underwent the most radical changes for the better. Silhouette. Well, what, it would seem, dynamics-swiftness can a true and non-parquet all-terrain vehicle have? It turns out it can! Take a look at the TrailBlazer. In its lines there is no lulling well-being of the Grand Cherokee, but in the form - solid and from this static masses of the Explorer. In addition, the Jim's representative has the most competently solved off-road paraphernalia: the bottom of the body is protected by a plastic overlay of moderate width, and wide “sleds” can be seen in front and behind to protect the corners of the exit / entry. And you can’t confuse the TrailBlazer behind - the optics are very original, and they are disguised with black matte paint rear racks on an SUV are rare.

American SUV test results - appearance:

CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER- Of course, this is a breakthrough in design and it is already difficult to call this style "truck style". There are many fresh ideas, and historical ties with the past of the brand have not weakened, but, on the contrary, have only grown stronger.

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE- His style is tradition itself, and this cannot leave indifferent either fans of a truly historical brand or enthusiasts of progressive solutions. But the design is 10 years old, time...

FORD EXPLORER- It is difficult to say how new this decision is. However, the style is actually different than the previous models, which for the most part were perceived as nothing more than modernized pickups.

Inside view

Everything is organic, but the proximity of competitors to each other is felt stronger than when comparing their appearance. Differences are only in the nuances and finishes. Ford has the most “Truck” interior, of course - everything is simple, despite the dark wood inserts, cream plastics and leather. The seats are traditionally flat in profile, which, however, will be immediately appreciated with frequent boarding / disembarking. Both Chevrolet and Grand Cherokee are more advanced in landing: the seats have a more pronounced "bucket", and the trim and plastic of the instrument panel may even seem playful in comparison with Ford's asceticism. For example, how bold is the “squiggle” that combines the instrument cluster with the center console of the TrailBlazer, or how luxurious the wooden “bedside table” of the Granda, which houses the audio system! The shape of the door panels is varied, and it is difficult to say in which car it is stylistically most related to the architecture of the panel. They are united by one thing - the American love for standardization, and as a result - the commonality of a single detail: the handle is identical in location and shape. However, the steering wheels are also similar: they are solidly four-spoke and gleam with buttons integrated into them to control the service group system.

American SUV test results - interiors:

Chevrolet TrailblazerR- By the way the design of the interior space is conceived and executed, it is clear that this is not a "truck". But, for example, the line of harmony sliding down to the center console does not add. JEEP GRAND

Grand Cherokee- Rare correspondence of parameters "outside and inside". Even wealth wooden finish you can find response outside. Stylish, but, unfortunately, in the spirit of its time.

Ford Explorer- Everything is very integral and in relation to the image of the car, declared outside, harmoniously. But dry. However, after all, this is a "truck", although it is "light".

Continuation

All three play on the same field - by American standards, these are mid-size SUVs, a very common class. All three "state" corporations have such a car in their arsenal. But if Ford and Chevrolet, produced since 2001, are well known to us and have repeatedly appeared on the pages of our magazine, then Jeep has not yet become familiar in one season and is of particular interest.

If you take a closer look at the whole trinity, you can see that the Chevy is the longest, most powerful, and at the same time it has the smallest engine size and only six cylinders against eight of its competitors. The Ford is the only seven-seater of the three, and it stands higher above the road. And the Grand is the most European in design, the DaimlerChrysler company. The Cherokee has permanent four-wheel drive - unlike the other two purebred Yankees, where the basic layout is classic, and the front is connected by the TOD system, and they have no center differential.

Who would doubt that the glass of the fifth door should open up autonomously. This is required by the terms of the game: isn't a large SUV designed to throw shopping bags into its depths? It should also have as many cup holders as possible so as not to deny yourself a liter glass of sticky soda. In addition, handrails on the racks are useful - grab them on bumps. Yes, I almost forgot - the pedal assembly simply must be with an electric servo! For some reason, it is believed that this is easier and cheaper than adjusting the reach of the steering wheel. Well, okay - that's their American mentality.

Ford- the most massive of the whole trinity, and it is not surprising that for landing, the outer steps are a topic that is quite relevant. But inside is the most spacious. At least in front. “I sit high - I look far away” - this is about him. But what is happening behind you have to guess. Stubborn, incomprehensibly truncated side mirrors complemented by wide racks and a huge headrest for the fifth passenger. Yes, in tight city traffic Explorer can be a bull in a china shop. And what about the second row? In such a large car there should be roomy. At first glance, it is. It's best to check it out for yourself though. But in this case, practice does not confirm the theory. Backdoor narrow, the rider's feet do not crawl under front seat, and the ceiling, despite the rise above your head, still presses on the top of your head (at least for me). The most unpleasant ergonomic nuance is the clothes hooks made of hard plastic, pinned to the rack right next to the heads of the extreme riders of the second row. And on a rough road, this squiggle constantly pecks at your temple. If I were an American, I would have already filed a lawsuit for an attempt on my physical (and, given the potential injury, mental) health.

trailblazer of the whole trinity, the most “feng shui”. Everything is at hand in it and nothing irritates the form. But according to the texture of the material - complete seams. All plastic parts seem to be made in an experimental vocational school for difficult teenagers. Diversified quality ranges from "very mediocre" to "terrible". But still, if you do not drill the instrument panel with countersinks, but cast a glance around, if possible on the road, the irritation disappears and two conclusions arise. First: visibility here is at a decent level. And the second - the "Trail" has the largest space in the cabin among the whole trinity. True, on the second row - for two, the three of us are cramped. Apparently, a child of pre-South age should be located in the middle, since there is not even a headrest there, and therefore it is much more convenient to use a salon mirror. But neither the head nor the knees are stuck in anything, and, which is nice, you can even glance at the road over the tops of the front riders.

New Grand Cherokee on the filling became completely European. Even the windshield wiper control is placed on the right stalk. And here you don’t have to puzzle over the algorithm for the operation of the front and rear wipers. Jeep, unlike Chevy and Ford, which annoy with the mysteriousness of the series of turns and clicks necessary for various operating modes, the interface of the entire dashboard very logical. I liked the front seats: deep, evenly distributing the load, with decent lateral support. The plastic of the panel is worse - what is called soft look, soft in appearance, hard to the touch. From the point of view of visibility and feeling of dimensions, the car is the most adequate. Getting to the second row is easy, but there is still not enough room for the legs. Although in past generations of "Grands" it was even more crowded.

All three presented cars have a lot of common qualities that are not inherent in others. Of the benefits - good dynamics and a solid, sonorous roar of large-capacity engines. Of the minuses - pecks during braking, roll and "empty" steering wheel. Do not forget about your appetite - in the city you are guaranteed a consumption of more than 20 l / 100 km.

Despite the similar dynamics in numbers, drivers have different feelings. So, Explorer seems much more frisky. The explanation is simple - in it the speed is most noticeable. But this is not annoying, but rather invigorating. He has an active start, with a squat on the rear wheels, and therefore, with the unloading of the controlled front end. At full throttle, the gears click quite quickly, without hesitation. In variable modes, getting Ford to shift the way you want is not easy. We slow down, but we don’t want to switch from fourth to third - that means we don’t slow down the engine. A manual control box here, of course, no. I'm wondering how, say, to descend from a mountain serpentine? What about kickdown? We sharply give on the gas, again, first Ford makes an attempt to spin up in the same gear, but, if it doesn’t work out, reluctantly pokes the lower one.

Chevrolet is much more sensitive in this respect. He is the most powerful of all three. And the most "passenger" in terms of traction. The behavior of the car in acceleration is directly related to the gas pedal. But in the Grand Cherokee, this dependence is less pronounced. Here, either the pedal is pressed all the way, or completely released - there are almost no nuances. If you want to come quickly - drown! But both Chevy and Jeep boxes are quite sensitive and fast.

In terms of braking dynamics, all are more or less adequate. Is that Ford a little "slows down" to slow down. But compared to the previous “Explorer”, the pedal of which had to be drowned to the floor to slow down, and preferably two or three times, the current one is just a sample.

With the controllability of large "Americans", everything was always somewhat neglected. It just matters to what extent. To do this, it is worth going a little deeper into design features our trio. The Grand Cherokee has permanent all-wheel drive with a center differential. The other two have rear-wheel drive. There is also an Auto position, which connects with a clutch front axle when slipping one of rear wheels. And if you want to use the 4x4 mode, then you will have to be content with a reduced range of using the car - do not sharply gas, do not drive fast. And then without a center differential you will rub the rubber, you will torture the transmission, and you won’t fly off the road for long. This is theory. The practice of trips to Ford and Chevrolet shows that both cars feel very comfortable on at least some damp or snowy surface. On dry land, the steering wheel really dubs, and the reactions of the car to the actions of the steering wheel are late. Then, nevertheless, we will switch to the prescribed 4x2 mode. For Ford, it goes almost unnoticed. And the Chevrolet is expressed in the appearance of very sensitive reactions on the steering wheel. It's amazing - big car with a powerful hydraulic booster, and it can be controlled very accurately. Another thing, if you put it in a skid. In the turn, as there is nothing to do, give gas - and the "Trail" went to revenge with its tail. There is no time for filigree control, but plus or minus half a meter, you can let it fan out on a turn and even catch it at the end. If you are tired of tickling your nerves, it is easy to straighten the trajectory by resetting the speed. The most characteristic classic layout! Anyone who likes to drive like this will definitely appreciate it.

With Ford, such games may not end well. It is more difficult to let it go sideways, but if it has already been torn off, then the “catching” is reminiscent of a mammoth being driven into a trap. This is especially difficult in mixed doubles - the car flies somewhere with uncontrollable zeal. And if the road is still in potholes, then in the turn, Explorer, under the action of centrifugal force, slowly rearranges the “legs” to an ever larger radius.

Something similar happens with the Grand. Hard rear axle, with a transverse “Panhard rod”, even on a smooth surface it bounces on bumps and tends to rearrange the car outside the turn. But the turns themselves are easy and pleasant - permanent four-wheel drive and electronic "chokers of freedom" do not allow the jeep to be self-willed. From the point of view of dynamics, one also gets the impression that the Jeep engine is specially blunted and the car does not give the acceleration that you expect from a 4.7 liter engine. Although, perhaps the reason is the best of all three ride and acoustic protection. The speed just fades away.

Since all three are complete frame SUVs, they must be periodically released to mix the dirt, otherwise they will lose their primitive skills. For lack of dirt in winter season have to make do with snow. Although for the integrity of cars and at least bumpers, this is even better. And it’s easier to dig out - you stop waving a shovel and immediately freeze. So you don't give a damn.

The highest hopes were pinned on Ford. That's why he sat down first. He sat down tightly and tightly - in a frozen rut. The wheels hooted somewhere under the level of the knurled surface and began to spin helplessly. The heavy machine lay on its belly, and most trouble spot Turned out to be the engine cover. The obvious reason for the landing seems to be just the short levers of the rear independent suspension. It was attached here largely for the sake of compactness and the placement of a third row of seats above it. But for patency, this is a minus. In general, I had to look for a tractor.

The Trailblazer made it through the same track with flying colors and no urge to skid. But in areas with a steep external inflection, problems arose. And without that, low thresholds, crowned with decorative steps, quickly clung to the ground and slowed down the movement. Although such a local "meeting" does not have great consequences. As a rule, it is possible to slide back or solve the problem in a couple of minutes of work with a sapper shovel. And the long rear overhang of the Chevrolet does not add geometric cross-country ability.

Jeep did not instill in us much confidence in its "Jeep" properties - it was painfully urban in appearance. But, as it turned out, they only meet by clothes. The Grand Cherokee proved to have long suspension travel, high torque at low, "pulling" revs, and the greatest ramp, exit and entry angles. More than that - an apron front bumper easily snaps off, and then you can storm very high thresholds that are inaccessible to competitors. But even if you do not know this, this apron is not a pity to crush - it is made of soft black plastic, and it is difficult to disfigure it.

In this case, the priorities lined up unambiguously, and comforting phrases like “this one is good at one thing, and that one at another” are not suitable. We have to admit: Explorer, of course, is a good car, and compared to its predecessor, it has taken a big step forward. But in this test, it is inferior to its competitors. Chevrolet can safely be placed second, and Jeep has pleased us so much (except for the price) within this genre that we will try to drive it with other competitors soon. But, to be honest, it will not be easy for them.

Two large solid SUVs of the American school with gasoline 6-cylinder engines and automatic boxes. Do you think these cars are very similar in everyday life? Just the opposite!

Differences that are important in practical operation, these cars have a lot. For example, the Ford Explorer assembled in Elabuga in any configuration has seven-seat saloon. Jeep Grand Cherokee - imported and strictly five-seater. Four-wheel drive y is solved through a multi-plate clutch and is equipped with a Terrain Management system that allows you to set settings for different type road surface. , in addition to the mode selection function, it has a “razdatka” with a reduction gear and, as in our case, an air suspension with adjustable ground clearance. Finally, these cars make a very different impression in terms of image.

Contemporaries

Ford designers have tried to turn the current generation into a gadget on wheels. The Grand Cherokee, on the other hand, gives the impression of a classic product, the creators of which did not particularly pursue newfangled delights, and even avoided them in some ways. Not only armchairs, a rear sofa and armrests, but also a front panel over its entire surface are covered in good thick leather here. Even in the list of options, you will not find a screen in the entire width of the dashboard - the "virtual" Jeep has only a speedometer on the central monitor, and the auxiliary instruments remain pointer.

The Ford Explorer is not represented in Europe and does not appear on the list of vehicles tested by Euro NCAP. In the US, it was tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In a frontal impact at 64.4 km/h (40 mph) on a deformable barrier with 40% overlap, the car received the highest rating of "Good" for protecting the head, chest and legs of passengers. At the same high level, the protection of passengers during a side crash test, as well as during an impact that simulates a rollover, is rated. Additionally, since 2012, IIHS has been conducting frontal crash tests with a small overlap (25%) - in it the level of protection is rated as “marginal” (Marginal).

Ford, on the contrary, has a classic central dial, and separate blocks of buttons on the steering wheel spokes are provided for the side screens. It looks wasteful: because of this, the keys most frequently used on the road - for example, the volume settings - are made small and shifted down. In the Grand Cherokee, in its rightful place, the only stalk flaunts, a memory of the long-disintegrated alliance with the German Daimler. The thing is specific, but not so terrible, and if you get used to it, then it is very convenient. But why in Jeep cars salon light control is combined in a single “twist” with the instrument panel brightness setting - still beyond comprehension.

Despite the absence of a "lower", on country roads The Explorer was quite confident. During the modernization of 2015, the designers improved it geometric passability by changing the design of the front bumper.

Settled and went

Power seats and steering wheel for Ford Explorer rich equipment Limited Plus and Jeep Grand Cherokee in the current top-of-the-line V6 Overland performance is a matter of course. But the driving position is different: in Jeep, according to tradition, wheel stands almost vertically, at Ford - more sloping.

model year, one might say, almost ideal crossovers for family needs. Both cars belong to the American auto industry and both can be used in a wide variety of conditions. Today, these two crossover models represent slightly different possibilities and belong to different price categories. However, they have become more versatile and moved away from the usual understanding of the family car.

Updated JeepGrandCherokee in 2016, it retained the familiar corporate design, diluting it with some stylish and high-quality inserts, such as a slightly narrowed radiator screen. In the same time, Fordexplorer less conservative with its softer, but just as versatile appearance, which is very reminiscent of the British crossover RangeRover. Inside these cars, you can feel the classic style from the 1990s, which is diluted with modern functional additions. The Grand Cherokee is richly decorated and impresses with the quality of its materials and textures, which are inherent in more expensive models. As for the Ford Explorer, it matches the company's corporate identity and boasts plenty of space and attractive interior design.

Both cars do a great job on the road, which may surprise some buyers who used to think that these crossovers are more designed for off-road driving. FordExplorer 2016 has a high-quality electric power steering and good responsiveness in control. In addition, the crossover is perfectly adapted for off-road driving. Updated JeepGrandCherokee 2016 can be equipped air suspension, which automatically adjusts the height of the car, depending on the conditions - whether it's a track or difficult terrain.

The motor part of the two models is very different from each other. JeepGrandCherokee model year uses the usual V6 and V8 gasoline units, as well as a V6 turbodiesel. Ford Explorer 2016, in turn, is equipped with either a conventional V6 or 4-cylinder EcoBoost V6 turbo engines. With more detailed description each configuration you can find in full reviews for each crossover ( and ), so we will focus only on the key features. New engine Ford Explorer EcoBoost 2.3L develops 280 hp, which is undoubtedly more than all the petrol units in the Grand Cherokee. However, the first crossover is inferior to the second in more powerful versions. For example, Ford uses a 365-horsepower unit that is inferior to the 5.7-liter Hemi propulsion system in the Grand Cherokee, which has 360 hp. Moreover, the 8-speed "automatic" works much better in Cherokee.

JeepGrandCherokee can be completely different. It all depends on the package you choose. So, the crossover can conquer absolutely any adverse conditions or demonstrate amazing performance in sports version SRT, which fully manifests itself on the roads with a 475-horsepower, 6.4-liter V8 engine. Acceleration to 100 km car takes 4.8 s! Hardly anyone expected such indicators from an SUV. FordExplorer 2016 has at its disposal basic systems that help the driver to cross difficult places, but do not need to ask too much of them. Moreover, this crossover will not be able to offer the same performance in a sportier package.

There is another reason why I want to note the 2016 Grand Cherokee. Another engine behaves very confidently and powerfully - a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. Despite its excellent performance, fuel consumption remains at a very attractive level, so it can be considered as an economical option for family needs.

The main advantage of the updated FordExplorer 2016 is its interior space and dimensions, which is very effectively used to increase practicality and comfort. The crossover can seat up to 7 passengers and uses three rows of seats, while the Grand Cherokee has two rows. In truth, the third row is not very comfortable for adults, but it is great for children. In any case, if you do not plan to carry a large number of passengers, then JeepGrandCherokee 2016 best suits your comfort level.

The 2016 Ford Explorer continues to feature a number of impressive additions, including the company's inflatable rear seat belt system, adaptive cruise control, various assistants, and more. In the 2016 Grand Cherokee, you'll find optional parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision avoidance. Both models have good rating security, but far from perfect.

Crossovers of the American automobile industry offer a wide range of different functional additions that could be present in luxury cars. Actually, the price, with this configuration, also grows to a decent level. The most notable versions JeepGrandCherokee 2016- it Summit and overland, and at FordExplorer 2016limited, which includes everything that every family would like to see. However, the cost of such complete sets can reach $55,000.

Summarize. Judging by foreign reviews and ratings of crossovers, we can say that they are equal and maintain a high level of quality. However, it is quite obvious that FordExplorer 2016 more suitable for families and JeepGrandCherokee 2016– for confident performance both on and off the road. Therefore, the final choice should be based on your personal preferences.

Or how fuel filter killed injectors Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 (2012)

Diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee is good for everyone. Handsome. Reliable. And it can serve faithfully to its master for a long time. Provided that the owner will serve his iron horse on time and feed him with high-quality fuel, oils and consumables. How violation of the regulatory deadlines can lead to the replacement of injectors, read below.

Vehicle: Jeep Grand Cherokee

Injectors and injection pump Grand Cherokee.

The car, which will be discussed, was serviced in a large network multi-brand technical center before coming to us. According to the owner, he did it regularly, as recommended in the instructions. He contacted us due to the fact that the engine starts well, but it takes sooo long. The starter turns, but the car does not start for several minutes. When asked how long ago the fuel filters were changed, the owner of the car was very surprised. The fact is that in the previous service he was assured that on this vehicle there is no fuel filter. Well, apparently confused with the gasoline version. On gasoline Jeep Grand Cherokees, the fuel system layout excludes the in-line fuel filter. The diesel Grand has as many as two in-line filters, one of which could not withstand more than 100 thousand mileage without replacement, and began to collapse. It should be noted that the filter was made of pleated filter paper, unlike the fiber material used in the original filters and high-quality analogues. How he got there and when, now is not clear.

The particles of the filter element, feeling a sudden freedom, rushed with all their might fuel system through the injection pump and the fuel pressure regulator directly to the injectors, igniting the error P0088-00 Fuel rail pressure too high along the way (too high pressure in fuel rail) and Check Engine on the dashboard. One replacement fuel filters now it's definitely not enough. Having removed the fuel supply control valve from the high-pressure fuel pump, aka Fuel Quantity Solenoid (FQS), they were not at all surprised to see a large amount of foreign impurities under it.

The results of the tests and checks described in the article about error P0088 revealed that it is necessary to check the injectors and fuel pump high pressure (TNVD) at the stand. We arm ourselves with special tools and proceed to dismantling. No special key fuel pipes there is a chance to damage the electrical part of the injectors, or adjacent parts.

Without such a key, replacing nozzles is difficult.
