The most reliable premium crossovers. Choosing an inexpensive and reliable crossover: review of models. The most budget option

SUVs are associated with off-road capability, strength, power and reliability. These qualities should be present in every car, and especially in SUVs, because a jeep is more than a city car.

SUV reliability rating

Today, the automobile market is full of various SUVs, and they are all different, there are crossovers, there are SUVs, and there are real SUVs, so we will divide SUVs into 3 categories:

  • lightweight SUVs with an engine capacity of less than 2.5 liters; these cars are characterized by weak engines and compact body sizes;
  • medium-sized crossover SUVs, engine capacity exceeds 2.5 liters, it is possible to place 7 passengers in such a car;
  • flagship SUVs with engines exceeding 3.5 liters have large body sizes.

Compact SUVs

Among light SUVs, the leaders in the rating are Japanese SUVs: Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, which are equipped with all-wheel drive, they behave well on country roads, on light, dry off-road conditions, and most importantly, they are very comfortable to drive around the city.

Compactness is their main advantage, and in general the characteristics of these crossovers correspond to a passenger car.

Medium SUVs

In 2011, the Volkswagen Touareg was considered the best-selling SUV of 2011. And even today, many who are thinking about buying an SUV for the first time look first at the Touareg because it is very similar to a Porsche (beautiful exterior design, magnificent, spacious and functional interior), has characteristics almost like a Porsche, and at the same time, the price of the Touareg is much less than that of the Porsche Cayenne. Thanks to its affordable price, the Touareg is considered one of the most economical SUVs.

Toyota Highlander is a Japanese SUV that has also captured a huge share of the international market for cars in this class. This car is equipped with a 3.5-liter engine that produces 273 horsepower. The Highlander is considered a family-friendly SUV, but it has its own predatory styling and sporty character.

Large SUVs

The most reliable SUVs are Ford vehicles: Explorer and Expedition. The main distinguishing feature of these machines is the impressive power and modern technologies that are used in the production of these machines.

The power of these cars is more than 290 horsepower, which is enough power to overcome quite difficult sections on the road and off-road.

In short, American SUVs are very reliable and require repairs in very rare cases.

Next, we are waiting for the cross-country ability rating of SUVs, because reliability and cross-country ability are two different concepts; not every reliable car can cope with driving through a swamp. And for an SUV, cross-country ability is an integral quality, without which an SUV will not be considered as such.

SUV cross-country rating

The cross-country ability rating is headed by the Land Rover Defender, Land Rover cars have been considered the best SUVs from time immemorial, and the Defender already has 50 years of experience in overcoming various obstacles where asphalt is out of the question.

Land Rover Defender is especially popular on farms, rescue services, in general, where you usually have to drive in the absence of normal roads. The Defender's power is 122 horsepower, it drives at a speed of 140 km/h quite calmly, but it has no competitors off-road.

Next comes the Nissan Patrol, which takes an honorable 2nd place in the category of real SUVs. Nissan Patrol rightfully takes its place among the best jeeps thanks to Japanese modern technologies and excellent quality. This car is equipped with an engine whose volume is 5.6 liters and its power is 405 hp. With.

The price of the latest generation Nissan Patrol is about 100 thousand American rubles, which is a lot, but this car is worth the money because it has a luxurious interior and excellent cross-country ability. In general, Nissan SUVs are known all over the world, and in Russia they are in good demand.

But we forgot about another off-road supercar - the famous Gelendvagen, which was created by the Mercedes concern. It also has a rich history of fighting off-road, and it will give many a head start, because, in addition to excellent cross-country ability, the Gelendvagen has a very powerful engine that can accelerate to hundreds are a bucket on wheels in 5 seconds!

Excellent performance for an SUV. Under the hood there is a 5.5-liter engine with a power of more than 500 horses. It’s very pleasant to drive such a car, everything in the cabin is strict, there is nothing superfluous. All-wheel drive makes you feel like the king of roads and off-roads behind the wheel of this jeep.

Rating of SUVs in Russia

Therefore, the Chevrolet Niva and simply Niva (Lada 4X4) are especially popular in Russia; these cars perform well off-road. To show the scale, here are some statistics: in 2013, about 60,000 Niva cars were sold.

In 3rd place is the Toyota RAV4, with 27,000 units sold.

And finally

We specifically did not include the Hummer in the ratings of the most reliable and off-road SUVs, because it is not like that. A Hummer is just a SUV; you can go shopping in it to a shopping center, but it won’t be very convenient to park in the parking lot due to its enormous size.

The ground clearance of the Hummer, both the 1st and the 2nd, is quite low, the mass of the vehicle is huge, so on severe off-road conditions the Hummer's wheels spin in one place, you have to call a UAZ Patriot in order to pull the Hummer out.

An inexpensive crossover is a great opportunity for Russian drivers to get a highly capable vehicle at an affordable price, which will cope perfectly with country roads, rough terrain and bad weather. It should be noted that a large number of crossovers are produced in the world today. However, only 10-15% can adapt to the harsh Russian roads. After all, in winter the car is faced with high snowdrifts, and in spring and autumn - deep puddles and mud.

Recently, crossovers have become popular due to their all-wheel drive system, excellent visibility, and significant ground clearance. And all this is complemented by the serious and solid appearance that such cars have. Naturally, its maintenance is much more expensive due to fuel consumption and a more complex design than passenger cars. Therefore, designers created simplified versions of SUVs - all-terrain vehicles. They have a monocoque body, good ground clearance for Russian roads and off-road qualities, in comparison with simple passenger cars. Moreover, the cost of such cars is lower than that of SUVs. If you want to purchase a powerful and fully equipped car on a limited budget, pay attention to used models on the secondary market.

Let's consider inexpensive crossovers that are suitable for Russian roads and will perform well in urban conditions.

Compact crossover Skoda Yeti

An economical crossover at a relatively affordable price, which is in demand among Russian drivers today. The model has many configurations, which allows each buyer to choose the one that suits them. The engines are available in three versions - 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 liters (105, 122 and 152 hp, respectively). The model is all-wheel drive only when equipped with a 1.8-liter engine. The gearbox can be manual or automatic. The basic equipment, if desired and available, can be supplemented with an on-board computer and a modern audio system.

The cost of 1 km is 7.09 rubles/km.

The advantages of the crossover are the following:

  • economical fuel consumption thanks to a 7-speed robotic gearbox that fully utilizes the engine's potential;
  • it is inexpensive and available for service in almost all regions;
  • the ability to choose your car from 18 modifications;
  • sound insulation of the engine compartment is made of felt of different densities and microporous rubber;
  • thoughtful aerodynamics under the bottom;
  • the ability to individually regulate the air flow in the climate control system.

Yetty also has several disadvantages.:

  • the rear suspension arms are located low and therefore increase the chances of catching something under the wheels;
  • engines are demanding on the quality of gasoline and have difficulty starting if you do not follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and fill in with low-quality fuel;
  • the radiator requires protection from oncoming stones;
  • The 1.2 turbine operates at the limit of its capabilities and therefore, with constant use, its service life is reduced.

The car is considered the most economical of its class, as it consumes per 100 km:

  • 1.2 AT+MT – when driving in the city 7.9 l, on the highway – 5.9 l;
  • 1.4 AT+MT – when driving in the city 8.9 l, on the highway – 5.9 l;
  • 1.8 AT+MT – when driving in the city 10.1 liters, on the highway – 6.9 liters.

Regardless of the modification, the car has the following characteristics: a station wagon, the height of the trunk threshold is 71.2 cm, ground clearance is 18 cm, the fuel tank capacity is 60 liters. The model has an electromechanical power steering. The trunk has a volume of 410 liters.

The most affordable Renault Duster SUV

A budget cross-suv that today occupies a leading position in sales thanks to the modernization of the model, as a result of which the car has acquired higher reliability and comfort. The basic model has a small set of options, so buyers often choose the average configuration. However, even the most “stuffed” Renault Duster will cost no more than a million rubles. The car is very comfortable when driving in the city thanks to energy-intensive extended suspension, and also performs well off-road.

The cost of 1 km is 6 rubles/km.

The car has the following advantages:

  • reinforced body structure with programmed deformation zones;
  • ABS with emergency braking assistance system;
  • affordable price;
  • a wide range of configurations, the ability to choose gearboxes and engines (including diesel);
  • excellent handling on steep descents thanks to a 6-speed manual transmission with a shortened first gear;
  • high ground clearance, which is 200 mm.

Its disadvantages are the following:

  • weak door seals, which allows wind to blow inside the cabin;
  • The mirror adjustment is located under the handbrake lever;
  • very dirty and impractical upholstery of seats and interior (in lower trim levels)
  • short-lived battery, which after 2-3 years of operation begins to discharge quickly;
  • high probability of wire breakage under the bottom (rear axle connection) due to lack of protection;
  • Bushings and anti-roll bar struts receive increased load and quickly fail.

As for fuel consumption per 100 km, it consists of the following parameters:

  • 1.5D 4WD diesel – 5.9 l in the city, 5 l on the highway;
  • 1.6 4WD – 11 l in the city, 7 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 AT+MT 4WD – 10.3 l in the city, 6.5 l on the highway; restyled version (2015) – 8.7 l (AT) and 7.8 l (MT).

The volume of the car's fuel tank is 50 liters. Body type – SUV. The trunk of the car is quite spacious and has a volume of 475 liters. Brakes: front disc, rear drum. Renault Duster is available in various configurations - both with 4x4 all-wheel drive and with only 4x2 front-wheel drive.

Nissan Juke – the choice of young people

The Nissan Juke is considered a relatively inexpensive and compact crossover, popular among both men and women. Its design is sporty and aggressive, and the size is not much larger than a standard hatchback. The car has several configuration options, but there are only four engines to choose from, namely 2 naturally aspirated gasoline engines, one turbodiesel and a charged turbocharged gasoline engine with 190 horsepower. Depending on the specific configuration, power can vary between 117-190 hp. The car is equipped with a manual transmission or CVT. An interesting fact is that the Juke's relative is the Nissan Micra, which is significantly smaller in size.

The cost of 1 km is 7.43 rubles/km.

Crossover advantages:

  • excellent handling and maneuverability;
  • thanks to all-wheel drive and multi-link suspension, good stability of the car on the road is ensured;
  • ground clearance of the front-wheel drive version is 190 mm;
  • Fuel consumption is quite low.

Cons:

  • there are blind spots in the rear view (due to the features of the body);
  • after a long drive on the highway at speed, especially in cold weather, traction disappears, the engine does not respond to pressing the pedals;
  • front pads are enough for 30 thousand km;
  • The front door locks may freeze and the doors stop opening from the outside; after opening, they may not close from the inside.

The fuel consumption of this car per 100 km is considered quite economical and is:

  • 1.6 5-MT, 2WD – 7.5 l in the city, 5 l on the highway;
  • 1.6 5-MT, 2WD – 8.1 l in the city, 5.3 l on the highway;
  • 1.6 6-MT, 2WD – 9.1 l in the city, 5.6 l on the highway;
  • 1.6 7-variator 4x4 – 10.2 l in the city, 6 l on the highway.

The latest version of the Nissan Juke can be purchased with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The cost of all-wheel drive is higher, but this is how the best sides of this crossover are revealed. At the front, the car is equipped with standard MacPherson struts, at the rear – a torsion beam and guide arms.

Power and strength – Nissan Qashqai

A long time ago, the Nissan Qashqai crossover took its place of honor in the leading positions of the Russian market. This car is equipped with 1.6 or 2.0 liter engines (114 and 141 hp, respectively) and turbodiesels of 110 and 150 hp. After restyling, 1.2 and 1.5 liter power plants became available. The car can be equipped with either a manual transmission or a CVT. The all-wheel drive version has exclusively a 2-liter engine.

The cost of 1 km is 6.6 rubles./km.

Clear advantages of Qashqai:

  • increased ground clearance (for all-wheel drive versions it reaches 240 mm);
  • good traction for all engines;
  • exchange rate stability is maintained and therefore control is comfortable;
  • fuel is consumed economically, especially in diesel versions.

But Nissan Qashqai also has disadvantages:

  • the variator is not fully developed by the manufacturer and, as a result, is short-lived and works reliably only with careful driving;
  • low life of axle bearings due to unprotected bearing design;
  • users notice many blind spots;
  • the steering rack is unreliable and problems begin after 50 thousand km;
  • the engine and interior will have to warm up for a long time in winter;
  • for all-wheel drive modifications, the driveshaft crosspiece lasts about 80-100 capes. kilometers, after which you will have to replace the entire driveshaft.

A car's fuel consumption per 100 km depends on its configuration:

  • 1.2 DIG-T 6-mech (diesel) – 7.8 l in the city, 5.3 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 6-mech (gasoline) – 10.7 l in the city, 6 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 7-var (gasoline) – 9.2 l in the city, 5.5 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 7-var 4x4 (gasoline) – 9.6 l in the city, 6 l on the highway;
  • 1.6 dCi 7-var (diesel) – 5.6 l in the city, 4.5 l on the highway;
  • 1.5 dCi 6-mech (diesel) – 4.2 l in the city, 3.6 l on the highway.

The design of the Nissan Qashqai consists of a steel monocoque body, independent wheel suspensions on strong subframes, transversely mounted engines, front-wheel drive or automatically connected all-wheel drive for the 2-liter configuration. It has three operating modes - 2WD, Auto (automatic connection) and Lock (clutch blocking, automatically turns off at a speed of 30 km per hour). A special electric power steering is built into the steering shaft.

Depending on the vehicle configuration, equipment may include: 6 PB, ABS, air conditioning, electric mirrors and windows, active head restraints, headlights, heated front seats, etc.

Practical crossover Mitsubishi ASX

Mitsubishi ASX can have one of three engine options - 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 liters, with a rated power of 117, 140, 150 hp. respectively. The first type comes with a manual gearbox, while the others may have a CVT. All-wheel drive is only possible with a 2-liter engine and a CVT; this equipment is quite expensive.

The cost of 1 km is 7.31 rubles/km.

The car has the following advantages:

  • increased ground clearance - 195 mm along the exhaust pipe under the rear suspension;
  • very economical fuel consumption;
  • excellent handling and geometric cross-country ability - approach angle is 19 degrees, departure angle is 31 degrees, the car has the smallest turning angle in its class.

But the advantages are complemented by disadvantages, including:

  • lack of manual transmission with all-wheel drive;
  • weak rear shock absorbers;
  • the suspension is too stiff for Russian roads;
  • problems with engine detonation;
  • poor sound insulation;
  • very thin metal.

Fuel consumption per 100 km is:

  • 1.6 MT – 7.8 l in the city, 5 l on the highway;
  • 1.8 CVT – 9.8 l in the city, 6.4 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 CVT – 10.5 liters in the city, 6.8 liters on the highway.

The vehicle's ground clearance is 195 mm. The trunk is not capacious enough according to driver reviews, but the volume declared by the manufacturer is 420 liters. Tank capacity – 63 l. The basic equipment in other modifications is complemented by a convenient climate control system, full power accessories, a battery with increased capacity, heated seats and mirrors for better visibility in the cold, and an engine starting system in cold weather.

Kia Sportage – a crossover for active drivers

The car of Korean origin, the Kia Sportage, has long been popular among Russians - both old and new generations. The vehicle configuration may include both a manual transmission and an automatic transmission. It is possible to purchase a Kia Sportage with all-wheel drive, but this option is the most expensive. There is also a diesel modification.

The cost of 1 km is 7.41 rubles/km.

Pros of the model:

  • excellent handling due to a small turning radius (short steering rack);
  • unpretentiousness regarding fuel, you can even use 92-grade gasoline;
  • smooth ride, good sound insulation and climate control system provide high ride comfort;
  • high safety thanks to electronic systems, airbags.

But the Kia Sportage also has some disadvantages:

  • fairly rigid suspension, which is designed for good roads;
  • presence of blind spots and poor visibility;
  • constant knocking in the suspension;
  • shock absorbers are prone to leaking;
  • the doors don't close well.

Fuel consumption per 100 km is as follows:

  • 2.0 MPI 4WD petrol (MT) – 10.9 l in the city, 6.6 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 MPI 2WD petrol (MT) – 10.7 l in the city, 6.3 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 MPI 2WD petrol (AT) – 10.9 l in the city, 6.1 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 MPI 4WD petrol (AT) – 11.2 l in the city, 6.7 l on the highway;
  • 1.6 T-GDI 4WD petrol (robot) – 9.2 l in the city, 6.5 l on the highway;
  • 2.0 CRDi 4WD diesel (AT) – 7.9 l in the city, 5.3 l on the highway.

Standard equipment of the model includes power steering, power windows, transponder immobilizer, central locking and radio preparation with 6 speakers, air conditioning, ventilation with a microfilter. The buyer can choose a package with ABS, ESP, roof rails, traction control, audio system, air curtains and side airbags.

Choosing the ideal inexpensive SUV

Which crossover should you choose if your budget is limited, but you want to use resources efficiently to get a truly off-road and reliable car?

If you are purchasing a car for driving in urban conditions, then a powerful engine will not be practical. However, it will come in handy when traveling over rough terrain, in a village or on a country road. It is better to choose a higher ground clearance (3-4 cm above obstacles), since the car sways when driving and can catch objects with its bottom.

It should be noted that diesel engines are considered more economical, but gasoline engines are better adapted to the Russian climate. But do not forget that repairing diesel engines is always much more expensive.

It is better to initially set a budget for the purchase, which takes into account both the cost of the car and the costs of maintenance and insurance. You can pick up a car on the secondary market, thereby saving money.

It is possible to choose an inexpensive crossover and feel the advantages of an all-terrain vehicle. To do this, just decide on the model of the budget crossovers presented above and choose the modification that suits you.

Today, crossovers occupy approximately 10% of the total volume of foreign cars sold on the secondary market, and this share is constantly growing (plus 8% in 2010). In fact, the picture follows the path of development of the new car market with a lag of two to three years.

Crossovers became a separate class recently - five or six years ago, although many models existed before. Thus, the Honda CR-V was classified as an all-terrain vehicle, and the Pontiac Vibe was considered a station wagon.

Used SUVs are not inferior in popularity to new ones. Let us remind you that the conversation concerns the Moscow region - other places have their own preferences.

1. The undisputed leader of the current review is. The car is damn reliable. One can, perhaps, only find fault with specimens that have been in serious accidents. Most of the cars were produced in 2001–2005 and have covered 70–140 thousand kilometers. There are options with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. About 85% of “Ravchikov” have a 2-liter gasoline engine (158 hp) and an automatic transmission, but it is not difficult to find other versions: with gasoline units from 1.8 to 3.5 liters (from 125 to 269 hp . respectively) and 2.2 liter diesel engines (134 and 175 hp), which are combined with various gearboxes. The RAV4 is already well-equipped: all popular security systems, power accessories, music and air conditioning are available. There are options with cruise and climate control, rain and light sensors, parking sensors and a navigator.

2. attracts with one of the most comfortable interiors in the class; thanks to its considerable width, sitting in it is very comfortable. A myriad of drawers, shelves and niches adds coziness, allowing you to maintain relative order inside. The age (and price) range is quite impressive; copies from 1998–2007 with a mileage of 80–200 thousand kilometers are more common. The cars offer exclusively all-wheel drive (with an automatically engaged rear axle), although there are also American versions with single-axle drive. The bulk are equipped with a 2-liter 150-horsepower engine and automatic transmission, but there are also other gasoline engines: from 2.0 l (150 hp) to 2.4 l (166 hp), as well as 2.2 -liter diesel (140 hp). The usual set of options includes brake force distribution (EBD), anti-lock braking system (ABS) and anti-skid system (VSA), eight airbags, air conditioning, power accessories and music. They note the increased demands of the machine on the characteristics of engine oil and consumables.

3. - perhaps the best offer in terms of workmanship and comfort. However, it is an order of magnitude more expensive than other cars and does not become cheaper over time, which prevents it from taking a leading position in the sales rankings. The engines (gasoline only) are also the most voluminous: from 2.7 liters (188 hp) to 4.5 liters (249 hp) as part of a hybrid installation. All cars are equipped exclusively with an automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive transmission similar to that found on the RAV4. The easiest models to find on sale are the RX 300 (204 hp) and RX 330 (230 hp) from 1999–2004, which have covered 100–180 thousand kilometers. The equipment corresponds to the class of the car: bi-xenon headlights, light sensor, heated windshield, electrically adjustable seats with memory, all kinds of active and passive safety systems, including a knee airbag for the passenger! There's also standard navigation, front and rear parking sensors and more.

4. Buyers appreciate the reliable motors and high build quality - complaints are extremely rare. Engines for every taste: gasoline, from 2.0 l (140 hp) to 2.5 l (169 hp), and diesel, 2.0 l (140 and 150 hp) and 2 .2 l (114 and 136 hp). 60% of cars are equipped with automatic transmission. The most widely represented models are those manufactured in 2004–2008, with a mileage of 60–110 thousand kilometers. The equipment is standard for crossovers: dynamic stabilization systems, brake force distribution and anti-lock braking systems, power accessories, six airbags, climate control, heated front seats. Demand for the model is not too high (fifth place in the sales ranking), but stable.

5., which ranks fourth or fifth in the review, is presented here in two generations - the “Outlander” itself and the “Outlander XL”. If you're looking for a car made after 2008, you'll likely see the XL, although both models were produced simultaneously for a time. In general, this name hides a relatively inexpensive car, quite roomy and with good cross-country ability. However, like many other “Japanese” cars, it has poor sound insulation, which is especially noticeable on cars imported from the USA. Cars are found on the market with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, gasoline - from 2 liters (136 hp) to 3 liters (223 hp) - and 2-liter diesel (136 hp). The vast majority were produced in 2003–2007 (80% with a 2.4 liter, 170 hp engine) and covered 80–120 thousand kilometers. The basic equipment is not rich: anti-lock braking system, brake force distribution system, two airbags, power accessories and climate control. The maximum version adds bi-xenon headlights, leather interior, tinted windows and four airbags.

6. can have very different origins. These crossovers were brought from Korea and Europe, many of them were assembled in Kaliningrad. In general, there are few complaints, and the shortcomings have been corrected in later modifications. Most often you can find “Sportages” produced in 2005–2008, with a mileage of 80–130 thousand kilometers. Almost all of them have a 2-liter gasoline engine (142 hp), manual and automatic transmissions are presented in a 50:50 ratio. There are also gasoline engines with volumes from 2.0 l (95 hp) to 2.4 l (176 hp) and diesel engines - from 1.7 l (115 hp) to 2.0 l ( 184 hp). The car can have front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with an electro-hydraulic clutch. Typically, the package includes electrical accessories, an alarm system, six airbags, an anti-lock braking system, a rain sensor, and air conditioning.

7. The vast majority of crossovers are imported from the USA; copies purchased from domestic dealers are practically never found on the secondary market. Consequently, all-wheel drive cars cannot be found here, only front-wheel drive. Despite the typically masculine design, they are most often purchased by women. All cars have a 2.0 l engine (156 hp) and an automatic transmission, although theoretically there are other versions: with gasoline engines from 1.8 l (150 hp) to 2.4 l (174 l .hp) and a 2.0 l diesel engine (140 hp). Mostly cars from 2006–2008, with a mileage of 30–80 thousand kilometers, are up for sale. The basic version includes climate and cruise control, two airbags, power accessories, a dynamic stabilization system and an anti-lock braking system. The additionally packaged cars are also equipped with side airbags, heated seats, leather interior trim, and an electric sunroof.

8. - a good car in terms of quality and off-road capabilities, close in characteristics to the Nissan X-Trail. Buyers are primarily attracted by the economical 2-liter (112 hp) diesel engine. It is not without sin: in severe frosts, the control electronics often fail. There are also gasoline engines from 2.0 liters (140 hp) to 2.7 liters (173 hp). Drive type is front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, connected via a friction clutch. Most of the cars are manufactured in 2006–2008, with a mileage of 50–110 thousand kilometers. In 70% of cases - with automatic transmission. The package includes a dynamic stabilization system and anti-lock braking system, air conditioning, electrical accessories, and airbags. In addition, the car can be equipped with light and rain sensors, climate and cruise control, parking sensors, leather upholstery and xenon headlights.

9., created by the joint efforts of GM and Toyota specialists, absorbed the best qualities of the models of each concern: excellent quality and low cost of service. There are both front- and all-wheel drive options on the market, usually equipped with an automatic transmission. The engines are exclusively gasoline, with volumes ranging from 1.8 liters (124 hp) to 2.4 liters (158 hp). The bulk of the cars were manufactured in 2003–2008, with 40–90 thousand kilometers on the odometer. The equipment is modest: airbags, air conditioning, cruise control and power accessories. Less common are options with dynamic stabilization and anti-lock braking systems, light and rain sensors, heated seats and parking sensors.

10. is known in two guises, differing mainly in passenger capacity. The seven-seater Qashqai+2 is poorly represented on the secondary market - apparently, it has not become sufficiently outdated. However, the regular Qashqai is quite young: cars from 2007–2009, with a mileage of 50–90 thousand kilometers, rule the roost. Approximately 60% have a 2.0 liter gasoline engine (140 hp) and an automatic transmission (more precisely, a CVT). There is also a 1.6 liter petrol engine (114 hp) and a pair of diesel engines: 1.5 liter (106 hp) and 2.0 liter (150 hp). Cars come in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (with a plug-in rear axle). The standard equipment includes power accessories, eight airbags, air conditioning, heated front seats, systems: anti-lock braking, dynamic stabilization, brake force distribution. A city car, you should think carefully before venturing off-road.

For ease of navigation, we have divided our publication into three parts. In the first we will tell you what you can count on with up to 600 thousand rubles in your pocket, in the second - up to 800 thousand, and in the third - up to 1 million rubles. There are eight crossovers in total. Which one is more reliable?

Used crossovers up to 600 thousand rubles

Renault Duster

Duster was introduced to the world back in 2009 under the Dacia brand. The car, already with the Renault emblem, reached us only in 2012. The model has three engines - 1.6 and 2 liter petrol and 1.5 liter diesel. Front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and even the basic 1.6-liter “baby” can have either front or all-wheel drive.

The same is true with a 2-liter engine, but the default diesel engine has a 4x4 formula. Only the 2-liter engine is equipped with an automatic transmission, and starting this year it can be ordered along with all-wheel drive. Most aftermarket cars have all-wheel drive and a manual transmission, about a quarter are equipped with an automatic transmission, and there are only a dozen scarce 4x4s with automatic transmission throughout the country.

Breakdowns and waste

There were many minor problems with cars in the early years, which dealers fixed under warranty. Thus, the problem of timing belt whistling arose due to its design feature.

If on vehicles with all-wheel drive the rear wheels disengage in first or second gear, it means that the program in the control unit needs to be updated. This happened due to a problematic firmware of the 4WD system ECU algorithm. You can “reflash” it at any dealer for free.

Before purchasing, check the floor under the passenger floor mat. If there is moisture there, it means they are trying to sell you a car with an unupgraded climate system. When the air conditioner is running, condensation will constantly flow past the drain hole.

Drivers note that the fuel level sensor often lies because the working measuring surface of the sensor becomes clogged with tarry deposits due to our poor fuel. Renault replaced the entire fuel level sensor unit under warranty.

Oil stains sometimes appear on the oil seal at the junction of the drive and gearbox, since the bearing is not pressed properly at the factory. If the problem is not eliminated (that is, the bearing is not changed), then the entire box can be “killed.” We have already written about how this happens in the article about.

If the paintwork starts to crack, it will be first in the places of welds, especially in the rear and on the gutters, so check the body carefully before purchasing.

Suzuki SX4

This “semi-crossover” (as an option - an all-terrain hatchback) appeared on sale in our country (as well as throughout the world) in 2006. At first, the company presented only a five-door car, and the sedan entered the production line a year later.

The hatchback allows you to choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, while the sedan only has the 4x2 formula available. But both the hatchback and the sedan are equipped with an automatic transmission. All-wheel drive in the five-door is combined with an automatic transmission. There is no variety of engines in the SX4 in our country - for Russia the Japanese left only a 1.6-liter engine with a power of 112 hp.

A few words about the Japanese and Hungarian assembly. There are many myths about this on the Internet. All sedans on our market are Japanese. But with a hatch it’s more complicated: until 2011, only top-end GLX trim levels with an automatic transmission (front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive) were brought to Russia from Japan, and the rest were brought from Hungary. In the fall of 2011, the Hungarian assembly line in Esztergom mastered the full line of SX4, and since then all cars officially delivered to our country have Hungarian roots. The “Europeans” have a slightly different bumper design compared to the “Japanese”. There are no striking differences in quality, although mechanics identify some purely “Hungarian” breakdowns, which we will describe below.

The timing chain is working properly. If it was pulled out, it was literally in isolated cases and at least after 150,000 km. The chain itself is inexpensive, but along with it you need to replace two tensioners and a pusher. The attachment belt has to be changed every 90,000 km.

The generator on Hungarian copies may fail if the car is not driven for a couple of weeks. The clutch on front-wheel drive vehicles lasts an average of 100,000 km, but in 4x4 vehicles its service life is usually 30-40% less.

The hubs can withstand an average of 70,000 – 100,000 km on our roads. The lower arms calmly move away from 150,000 to 200,000 km.

Skoda Yeti

The first and so far only crossover of the Czech brand has been sold since 2009, and in 2013 the model was restyled, losing its signature round headlights. There were three engines at the start of sales - TSI 1.2 and 1.8 liter petrol engines and a 2 liter TDI diesel engine. Since 2012, the 1.4 TSI engine has appeared in the power line.

Engines 1.2 and 1.4 have front-wheel drive, the rest have all-wheel drive with a Haldex clutch. Boxes - “mechanics” or “robot” DSG. In the aftermarket, most of the offers come with a base 1.2 engine, which, thanks to supercharging, is quite enough for a quiet ride.

There are also plenty of cars with a 1.8 engine, but almost all of them are manual, since this engine only received an automatic transmission a couple of years ago. There are not many copies with a diesel engine, since immediately after the start of sales, Skoda excluded it from the line and returned it only two years ago. Cars come to our market from Kaluga and the Czech Republic.

Breakdowns and waste

On 1.2 and 1.8 TSI engines, the timing chain is already stretched to 70,000 km. On the 1.2 engine, due to its small volume, problems arise with heating in winter. If you stand in a traffic jam at -20 ° C, then the car literally begins to cool down. This drawback was corrected in 2012, when an additional electric heater was added to the “base”. Turbines can withstand an average of 150,000 km. There are no special problems with a diesel engine.

With boxes the situation is more complicated. The model is equipped with a DSG “robot”, which we have written about several times. The most problematic option with a dry clutch (DSG7) is on the 1.2 engine. Many drivers changed the clutch set and mechatronics by 75,000 km. The first symptoms are vibration and jolts when shifting from first to second gear. On gearboxes with 1.8 and 2.0 diesel engines, the discs rotate in oil and this problem is much less common. But the warranty for DSG7 is 5 years or 150,000 km.

Stabilizer struts can withstand 30,000 – 40,000 km on our roads. Shock absorbers can last up to 100,000 km. On cars before 2013, the rubber on the front door seal often wore off the paint. This “illness” was also fixed under warranty.

Mitsubishi ASX

The car began to be assembled and sold in 2010. The prototype of the Mitsubishi ASX was the Concept-cX concept, presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007. The car has one body, five seats and three engines. All engines are conventional naturally aspirated petrol inline-fours. The base 1.6 is only available with front-wheel drive and a manual transmission. The 1.8 also has drive only on the front axle, but is equipped only with a CVT, and the most powerful 2-liter unit transmits torque to all four wheels and also only through a CVT. The wheel arrangement “4x2 + automatic transmission” or “4x4 + manual transmission” for the ASX, unfortunately, is not available. More than half of the offers on the secondary market are with a 1.8 engine, another third of the ads are with a 1.6 engine, and two-liter all-wheel drive cars make up approximately 12% of the total.

Breakdowns and waste

Timing chains are installed on all engines, and they ask for replacement only when the mileage exceeds 130–150 thousand km. The most common disease of the ASX is the fuel pump, which does not like bad gasoline. If the car does not start the first time, change the gas station. If the problem does not go away, you will have to take out the pump and check its condition. If it has not yet had time to “burn out,” then flushing will help. Otherwise - only replacement.

Oil stains on the driver's mat are not a cause for concern. This is grease dripping from the steering column parts, which was not spared at the factory when assembling the car. Over time, this “disease” goes away.

Problems with gear shifting on a manual transmission are most likely to blame for leaking brake fluid, since the clutch hydraulic fluid has a common reservoir with the brake fluid.

A strong whistle under the hood on a 1.8 engine is most often associated with a faulty drive belt roller - it was often replaced under warranty. Another weak point is the generator on this engine. Owners of cars manufactured in 2012-2013 especially often applied for a generator replacement under warranty.

Mitsubishi Outlander XL

Mitsubishi, as always, has a generational mix-up. As in the case of , marketers have complicated and confused everything. The second generation Outlander, built on the same platform as the tenth Lancer, appeared in 2007 and turned out to be 10 centimeters longer than its predecessor. During 2007 and 2008, they were sold on the market simultaneously, occupying slightly different market niches. For the larger Outlander-2, they came up with the XL prefix. The 2010 restyling added to the confusion, during which the model received a completely different front design in the Jet Fighter style. Since the appearance has changed so much, many consider the restyled cars to be the third generation “Outlanders”... But all this fuss does not detract from the merits of the car.

There are three engines - two in-line naturally aspirated “fours” with a volume of 2 and 2.4 liters and a 3-liter V6. Drive - front-wheel drive or plug-in all-wheel drive. Officially, only 5-seater versions were brought to us, but on the secondary market it is very rare, but still there are copies from Europe with a 7-seater interior.

All the cars initially came to us from Japan, but since 2010, large-unit assembly was established at the PSMA Rus plant near Kaluga.

The V6 engine has a timing belt, which is changed according to regulations every 90,000 km. Around this time, the attachment belt is usually changed. The 2.0 and 2.4 liter engines are equipped with a timing chain, the operating time of which is calculated for the entire life of the engine.

All three engines are very reliable, do not have turbines and easily “digest” our fuel. True, if you fill your car with bad fuel, the catalysts will not last even 80,000 km.

A manual transmission and a variator are installed on 2.0 and 2.4 liter engines, while the 3-liter unit only has a classic torque converter. If the clutch in the manual transmission requires replacement, it will most likely not be earlier than 150,000 km.

The transmission oil must be changed regularly. In a variator, this must be done every 90,000 km, and in “mechanics” and “automatic” - every 120,000 km. If the variator overheats (happens in hot weather and after prolonged load), a light on the instrument panel will tell you about this. There is no need to panic, but you should immediately turn off the engine and let it cool. Alas, the variator’s tendency to overheat can be attributed to the car’s “family” problems.

Volkswagen Tiguan

A compact crossover, built on the same platform as the Golf and Skoda Yeti, appeared in 2007. The range of engines includes five options - 1.4 TSI (122 or 150 hp), 2.0 TSI (170 or 200 hp) and 2.0 TDI (140 hp). Drive - front or full with Haldex clutch. Boxes – manual transmission, classic “automatic” or “robot” DSG, in six- or seven-speed versions. Cars are brought to us either from Germany or from near Kaluga, with approximately the same level of build quality. About 70% of cars presented on the secondary market have an automatic transmission and only 30% have a manual transmission. Almost 90% of cars have all-wheel drive.

A two-liter gasoline engine, regardless of the number of “horses” under the hood, likes to eat up oil. But the diesel engine has no problems, except for its low prevalence and high cost on the secondary market.

Diesel engines have a regular automatic transmission, and the problematic seven-speed DSG, which we dedicated to, appeared only on the 150-horsepower engine, and then only after 2012. Among the troubles, it is worth noting the wheel bearings, which sometimes begin to hum already at 30,000 km.

Chevrolet Captiva/Opel Antara

Captiva went on sale in Russia in 2007, and its “twin” Antara entered the market a year later. Both cars are technically very similar and differ mainly in design.

Crossovers combine the qualities of SUVs and cars. They gained their popularity due to the deplorable state of many Russian roads. When buying a passenger model, the owner realizes that its capabilities often end with the asphalt surface. Also, passenger cars are not able to overcome snowdrifts or large holes, without which it is difficult to imagine roads in our country. At the same time, there are motorists who want to see some of the qualities of SUVs in their car, especially increased cross-country ability. Therefore, they are trying to choose the most reliable crossover for Russia.

Rating of crossovers for Russian roads

The TOP 5 most reliable crossovers that are suitable for domestic roads look like this.

A car made in South Korea. This brand can be classified as a budget brand, since their cost starts from 1,674,000 rubles. For several years now, this car has been leading the list of the most reliable for use on Russian roads. Today the manufacturer presented the third generation of Hyundai Santa Fe. The driver can choose an all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive option.

The new crossover models differ from their predecessors in weight (weight is 100 kg less) and body rigidity, which has been increased by 15%, which allows the owner of this brand to feel more confident while driving on domestic roads. According to the manufacturer’s recommendations, maintenance must be carried out at specially equipped stations. You should visit a service station for the first time after traveling 2 thousand kilometers, then it is enough to do this every 10 thousand kilometers.

A budget car produced by a French company at a Russian car plant. The new car model retains the reliable chassis and driving comfort of its predecessor. The initial configuration costs about 584,000 rubles, and the maximum configuration does not exceed 958,940 rubles.

It is worth paying attention to the chassis of this model - it is long-stroke and at the same time energy-intensive, which allows the car to go off-road. This crossover should be serviced every 10-15 thousand kilometers.

A product of the Japanese automobile industry, which regularly appears in the ranking of the most reliable for use on Russian roads. This model has always been one of the leaders, and after its update it became unrivaled. The price of a basic single-wheel drive model with a manual transmission starts at 1,180,000 rubles. The cost range for all-wheel drive is 1,410,000-150,000 rubles. Diesel will cost the buyer even more.

If we talk about the features of this car, then you should pay attention to the clarity and ease of operation. All-wheel drive guarantees confidence even on the tightest turns. In addition, the new Mazda CX-5 model has improved front control arm blocks and shock absorbers, which have a positive effect on its smooth ride.

Maintenance is allowed only in specialized centers. The interval between scheduled maintenance should be about 15 thousand kilometers.

The car was first introduced by the Japanese company back in 1995. Today the manufacturer presented the fourth generation of the crossover. The range of prices for which you can purchase this brand of car is 1,399,900-2,219,900 rubles. For this money, the motorist receives not only reliability in movement on Russian roads, but also increased comfort.

Its advantages include: minimal gasoline consumption, precise control in combination with all-wheel drive. To extend the life of the Honda CR-V, the manufacturer recommends undergoing maintenance regularly and only at specialized service stations every 15 thousand kilometers.

For many years now it has been the personification of reliability and excellent quality. In Russia, this crossover occupied almost a quarter of the entire market. The fourth generation of this car has all-wheel drive and an integrated dynamic torque distribution system. This makes it possible not only to reduce gasoline consumption, but also to increase the operating time of the transmission.

Thanks to all-wheel drive, the Toyota RAV4 is stable and maneuverable. The cost of the car starts from 1,255,000 rubles. For trouble-free operation, the crossover requires regular maintenance.

The term "crossover" originated more than 20 years ago and was applied to passenger cars with some of the capabilities of an SUV. The very first models of such cars were the Honda CR-V, as well as the Toyota RAV4. Today, crossovers can be found from almost every automaker, and this term applies to vehicles with high cross-country ability and the absence of a frame structure.

As the basis for the production of such cars, a passenger car platform is used with the addition of some design features:

  1. Improved cross-country ability due to short overhangs and increased ground clearance.
  2. Strengthening the body due to the integrated frame.
  3. A two-volume body, thanks to which it is possible to transform the interior.
  4. Several drive options.
  5. Possibility of connecting a second axis.

However, because of these SUV capabilities, the crossover paid for it with deterioration in comfort, efficiency, dynamism and handling.

Crossovers gained their popularity among motorists due to the combination of such qualities as versatility and practicality. They have more than once proven trouble-free operation when operating in difficult conditions, which passenger models could not do.

Russian roads can be called a real testing ground for vehicle cross-country ability. Therefore, when choosing a car, car owners are always interested in the reliability rating of a particular model.

Speaking about the reliability of crossovers, it should immediately be noted that these cars are not suitable for driving for a long time on mud or roads covered with gravel. Like all cars, crossovers can break down, however, most of these breakdowns are of a non-production nature and occur due to violations of their operation.
