Nissan Patrol y61 is a legendary SUV at the Land Cruiser level. Nissan completes sales of Patrol with a special version New Nissan Patrol y61

And the history of the glorious family with the name Patrol began in 1950, when an adviser to Nissan (then called Datsun), a retired artilleryman Shijita Murayama, who received a fragment of an American shell in the kneecap during the war, and in five years of peace managed to earn the nickname "Lame success" , by hook or by crook, he broke through for his company a state order for the creation of all-wheel drive vehicles for the police, forestry and public utilities. So the first Patrol was born with the 4W60 index, similar to Willys - an overgrowth. No wonder, because Shijita Murayama made his first money on the repair and maintenance of vehicles of the American occupation forces, and used the frame, axles and engine from a one and a half ton truck as the technical basis for his SUV.

The next generation Nissan Patrol (in the Japanese market - Safari, in Australia this car was sold under the MQ index), which received the index 160, was released in 1980. This car, which was distinguished by a very comfortable body by the standards of that time, a range of powerful in-line six-cylinder engines (2.8-liter gasoline and 3.3-liter diesel) and two wheelbase options, brought the company to a new level. Simply put, the Patrol 160 played the same role in the history of the company that the famous "sixty" Land Cruiser FJ60 plays in the history of Toyota. Concern Nissan was literally inundated with orders!

Then there was a period of evolutionary development and expansion to world markets, and in 1988, a new, more advanced Patrol GR car with a factory index Y60 (in Australia - GQ) took its place on the main Nissan conveyor. The letters G and R were added to the name for a reason. They meant Grand Raid (big raid) and marked the past and future victories of Patrol on the routes of marathon rally raids. This was largely due to the new Patrol GR Y60 spring-link suspension, which combined exceptional endurance with decent handling.

Finally, 10 years later, in 1998, a fundamentally new Y61 model (GU in Australia) was born, which allowed Nissan to enter the elite club of luxury SUVs and compete with the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 released in the same year (actually In fact, the release was launched back in 1997, after the Frankfurt Motor Show, but the car went on sale as a “1998 model”, and this figure was fixed in all documents).

And here's what's interesting: the chassis of the new car has remained virtually unchanged, to the point that the frame and axles of the Y60 and Y61 are interchangeable! Creating a new car, Nissan decided that it was not worth instilling good road manners in the car at the expense of abandoning eternal off-road values. Maybe they simply foresaw that most companies would go exactly along the “asphalt” path, because already at that time sociological data claimed that most of the owners of expensive SUVs simply never leave the asphalt, or maybe they hoped to attract those customers for which the reliability of the car and its ability to overcome "directions" were no less important than driving comfort. Well, if so, then they are not looking for good from good.

What's more, the new flagship's off-road capability has even been enhanced by the use of a releasable rear stabilizer bar. By the way, a similar design, only with a manual drive, had already been tested on the Nissan Safari Y60 sold in the Japanese market by that time, and it really showed its effectiveness in terms of improving suspension articulation on rough terrain. Another important innovation was the unique automatic freewheels of the front wheels with the possibility of their forced closure.

The Y61 began its life journey with the engines inherited from its predecessor: for Europe, the RD28T 2.8-liter turbodiesel was mainly intended, and for other markets, the 4.5-liter TB45E gasoline “six” and the TD42 diesel. At the turn of the millennium, a novelty was registered under the Patrol hood - a four-cylinder ZD30 turbodiesel with a displacement of 3 liters, intercooling of the charge air, direct fuel injection controlled by the injection pump electronics, and a combustion chamber in the piston. This engine developed 158 hp. at 3,600 rpm and produced 354 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.

In 2003, another change took place in the line of engines: instead of the 4.5-liter "six" TB42, the TB48 engine with a volume of 4.8 liters and a power of 245 hp went to the conveyor. By the way, the only country in Europe where cars with this engine were delivered was Russia. In the bowels of Nissan headquarters, it has finally been decided that the policy of 100% dieselization in our incomprehensible country leads to loss of customers and losses. In addition to the new engine, Patrol also received a new five-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting.

Finally, in November 2004, the updated Nissan Patrol was presented to the public. Restyling touched the interior and most of the external panels, the car received new bumpers and optics, but remained quite recognizable.

Before proceeding directly to what its owners praise and scold the Patrol Y61 for, it is necessary to say a few words about the sources of these cars entering Russia. As a matter of fact, all "Patrols" are divided into "Russians" (that is, cars officially sold through a dealer network), "Europeans", "Japanese" (which, of course, are not called Patrol, but Safari) and "Arabs". Since the global company Nissan is very sensitive to the adaptation of its cars to specific markets, "Patrols of different nationalities" can have very serious technical differences, in addition to the fact that all markets differ in terms of the range of engines offered. For example, in a "purebred Arabian horse" with a 4.8-liter gasoline engine, there will be a five-speed automatic transmission with the possibility of sequential manual shifting (and not the obsolete, albeit reliable, four-speed, as in a diesel "European"), cruise control, two fuel tanks with separate openings under a common hatch, a navigation system, a FINE VISION dashboard, regular xenon headlights, a subwoofer, stylish chrome handles and mirrors ... But there will be only one battery instead of two, as well as inevitable problems with interior heating.

Hate #5: "Yes, it's some kind of dinosaur..."

Indeed, few owners of Patrols can boast that their car has a modern (at least by the standards of the first decade of the 21st century) media system. In fact, almost every second review about this car says “thrown out the standard “music”, installed a normal system (Alpine, Blaupunkt, Boston Acoustics…) in the 2DIN form factor, with navigation, bluetooth, rear view camera, amplifier and subwoofer, well, I invested in soundproofing, and after that life became easier, it became more fun ... "

Yes, in general, few people call noise among the significant drawbacks of the model - but a lot of people write about how much the Shumka cost. Apparently, in the opinion of the owners, in the cabin of such a car, by definition, you cannot feel like in a sound chamber. Plus, such an anachronism has been preserved in the car, such as a telescopic retractable antenna, which is put forward by an electric motor, and you need to use it constantly, wiping it from dirt several times a week and watering it with WD40. It's the only way to keep it in working order, and an unmovable antenna on the front wing of older Patrols is a rarity.

Naturally, the “sixty-first” cannot boast of any electronic driver assistance systems, even on the road, even off-road. What to do: This car comes from a time when trees were big, the sky was blue, and SUVs were iron.

Love #5: "He was solid, experienced and gray..."

There are few people who are ready to consider the Nissan Patrol a model of automotive design worthy of a place in the Museum of Modern Art. That's just the unsuccessful appearance of this car, too, almost no one considers. Patrol is solid, impressive, brutal and elegant in its own way. But this is not subtle beauty. This is the beauty of function. This is how the lines of the hulls of warships and intercontinental airliners are verified. And the owner’s feelings - they are quite consistent with the appearance: “everyone around is so nimble, probably premium, perhaps very German ... And I have a land battleship, I’m a captain, I’m high on my own ...”

By the way, Patrol quite like women. Naturally, not many women like to drive this car: it usually seems too “masculine” to them. But to ride it as a passenger - they are happy to. Indeed, why not look from above, how all the little things around around shy away from the huge "crocodile" ...

Hate #4: "Because someone is eating too much!"

But you have to pay for everything, including size and solidity. For example, no less solid fuel consumption ... However, complaints about exorbitant appetite do not apply to all versions, except that, naturally, consumption is very dependent on driving style.

Many note the efficiency of the TD42 diesel. On long hauls with a cruising speed of 110-120 km / h, it consumes about 10 liters per hundred. But the smaller TD28 may ask for 15 liters ...

There are a lot of conflicting reviews on the net about the consumption of ZD30. Someone writes that it fits into 11-12 liters, someone notes that the consumption on the highway is 15-17 liters, someone claims that 14 liters per hundred is the consumption in city traffic jams, someone in under the same conditions, 17-18 liters are obtained with a calm city ride and about 20 liters in afterburner mode.

And of course, multi-liter gasoline “sixes” eat a lot. Because of this, some "multiplying" go to the loss of part of the trunk volume and the installation of gas equipment. Gas consumption, of course, is 20 percent higher than gasoline consumption in the same conditions, and with a quiet ride it is about 16 liters per hundred on the highway and 20-22 liters in the city, and when you are in a hurry or standing in dead traffic jams, it can reach up to 30 liters per 100 km. However, gas is much cheaper...

Love #4: "Like behind a stone wall..."

Many owners write that Patrol should not be bought “with the last money”: the maintenance of such a car inevitably costs a pretty penny. But many people willingly go for these expenses, since there are not many cars that inspire the same sense of security. And there are very real reasons for this feeling: Patrol is ready to protect the crew even in the event of very severe accidents.

Here is an example from the owner:In the summer of 2009, on the Moscow-Riga highway, I stopped the car on the side of the road, and a road train weighing 61 tons entered me from all over (100 km per hour, according to the traffic police). The car is written off, but I only have a broken neck and two broken ribs. He got out of the cab himself, the only thing was that a traffic police officer helped to open the door. In general, think for yourself, decide for yourself ..

It is clear that today no technology can give a 100% guarantee of survival in, for example, a head-on collision at high speeds. But in the mass of life situations, a powerful frame, overall weight and a strong body (of course, in combination with belts and pillows) significantly reduce the risk of serious consequences.

Hate #3: "That's when the spine got enough sleep..."

As far as the owners are unanimous in assessing the safety of the “sixty-first”, they are just as unanimous in their stiff suspension, and also the fact that, despite the presence of a standard steering damper, bumps are transmitted to the driver’s hands. In the Far East they say: “If you want your spine to fall into your pants after traveling on a dirt road, and if you want a car, buy a Safari, if you want to drive in comfort, choose Kruzak.” Or here is another quote: “On the go, the car, as I said, is tough: it catches the slightest bumps. I thought the shock absorbers did not work or the stabilizer links burst, but no - the “Patrol” is like that in life. Of course, you can lower the tire pressure, but then the handling is different ... "

The patrol community has considered a variety of ways to level this shortcoming, from the mentioned pressure reduction to the selection of softer rubber, shock absorbers and suspension springs, but all of them only reduce the scale of the disaster without changing the character of the car in a radical way.

To prevent "kickback" many people prefer to install a more powerful steering damper, such as Old Man Emu or Ironman. There is such a position in the catalog of a completely domestic company RIF.

And a rigid suspension is somewhat similar to beer in the morning: it is not only harmful, but also useful. Firstly, the Patrol's behavior on a bad road fits perfectly into the old formula "more gas - less holes", and secondly, the Y61 has no tendency to change the trajectory of movement on bumps. And this behavior on poor surfaces is very well suited for an expedition vehicle.

Love # 3: “I carry everything with me ...”

What is especially important for the expeditionary? Naturally, the internal volume and size of the luggage compartment. In the case of Patrol Y61, all this is in full accordance with the impressive external dimensions. And here, perhaps, the direct speech of the owners will be most convincing. “I didn’t carry anything on it, starting from lining and ending with cement, 20 bags at a time ...”, “Places in it are like on the deck of an aircraft carrier”, “There is a lot of space in the back seat - when we held ice competitions races, in my "Patrol" staged a judging. So the secretary sat there with a laptop and a printer, and the participants sat next to him and filled out applications for participation. And everyone was comfortable!”, “We went to Abkhazia, four people plus a full load. We slept right in the car”, “There is no tunnel, so the average passenger on the back sofa gets the same comfort as those sitting on the edges, including a two-point seat belt. In the seven-seater version, a small trunk curtain is provided. If the third-row seats are removed as unnecessary, then it is desirable to purchase the original full-size curtain that fits into its native places. "When I first sat behind the wheel of the Nissan Patrol, I was struck by the huge interior space and its convenience. If in my old cars I reached the passenger door and could open and close it on the go, here I can’t even adjust the right air duct! A real refrigerator is installed between the driver and passenger seats!», « Huge luggage space, the ability to transport lengths up to 2.8 meters in the cabin and the easy movement of five winter anglers along with all the ammunition over a distance of 200 km in two hours with the task of reaching the ice is not found in every vehicle».

By the way, the most utilitarian versions of the Patrol (they are often called “UN” ones because they really were popular with all kinds of international monitoring organizations) have nine seats: on the sides of the trunk there are folding double benches, the passengers of which sit facing each other.

Hate #2: "Demand climate asylum!"

Huge salon - it seems to be good. But from the point of view of microclimate regulation, the larger the interior, the more problems. The owners of far from all versions complain about the cold in the Nissan Patrol cabin, but there are still enough dissatisfied people. Owners of versions that do not have an additional rear seat heater are especially categorical. And the interior warms up for quite a long time, and in winter, in traffic jams, the engine cools down instead of overheating - and it becomes cold again in the car.

There are problems with starting the engine in winter, especially if the temperature drops below -25 degrees. Naturally, this applies mainly to diesel versions. Neither replacing the thermostat nor wrapping helps. Installing an autonomous starting heater to some extent solves this problem, but ... Here are the typical cries of the soul: “After installing Eberspächer, it began to warm up better, but still in the cabin - like in my refrigerator. The stove does not have time to warm up the interior. At operating temperature, the engine is still cold! For a 3.0 TD motor, this is a standard problem, since this motor is complete junk! It doesn’t get warm in winter, it overheats in summer...” “In winter, at -25, a three-liter diesel engine doesn’t start by itself, so it’s better to install Webasto or Eberspecher right away. After 10 minutes of “autonomous” operation, it starts up with a half turn. And up to -25 it starts up normally ... "" The Spartan features of the past are expressed in the absence of a rear air conditioning system. There is a true rear stove, but not in all machines. This "breeze" blows only from the rear on the right and is effective only when the air in the cabin has already warmed up.

1 / 2

2 / 2

At the same time, in essence, Patrol feels very good in winter conditions. Due to its weight, it holds the trajectory well on snowy roads (however, for this it is better to connect the front axle and get that very predictability at the cost of understeer), and to plant the Y61 in the snow, you need to have a depth almost up to the hood. The car accelerates well on a winter road, but it slows down badly (and often dangerously badly), but snowdrifts and snowy parapets, in which a light SUV pops up and skids, drives confidently like a tank.

Love # 2: "Tanks are not afraid of dirt!"

As a matter of fact, the cross-country ability of all Nissan Patrols has long become a legend, and almost all owners single it out as one of the main advantages. Many write that the purchase of this car literally re-discovered the world around them. It turns out that there are so many beautiful places around, even in the winter forest, even on a distant lake! True, from legend to myth - just one step.

Passability Patrol has its limits, and these limits are set primarily by the solid weight of the car. But if you have already buried yourself or put the car on bridges, then unwind the winch. No winch? Then follow the tractor... And if, believing in the limitless possibilities of the car, you foolishly climb into the swamp, then the tractor may turn out to be powerless.

In fact, the patency of the Patrol Y61 in its standard configuration can be assessed as average, especially on soft soils. For real off-road, the car needs to be lifted, put normal mud wheels at least 33 or 35 inches, change the springs, the main pairs in the bridges, so that it all goes, well, then - replacing the bumpers, installing a winch - and away we go ...

But on the primer or on dry off-road, the car feels more than confident. The opening mechanism of the rear axle stabilizer and the presence of a rear axle lock are very helpful. But even here it must be borne in mind that the traction and other steering components are located in front of the front axle and are not protected by anything. The exhaust system often suffers as well - the “bank” of the rear muffler hangs below the frame, so it’s quite easy to damage it on stones or other hard obstacles. Nevertheless, the long-wheelbase Patrol Y61 is an excellent platform for building a car for long-distance extreme travel. In principle, this car also has many sports victories in extreme off-road competitions, such as the Rainforest Challenge and Outback Challenge. But there, the athletes used a GU flatbed truck with a single-row cab as a base for building sports equipment: this immediately solves the problem of excess weight. But the problems of a three-liter diesel engine have not been fully resolved ...

Hate #1: "Three liters of problems"

Yes, the ZD30 diesel really can be called unsuccessful, so unsuccessful that everyone unanimously recommends staying away from cars with such an engine manufactured before 2004. And, nevertheless, it is this motor that is under the hood of more than 70% of the "patrol" cars sold in Russia.

When this diesel first appeared on the market, the automotive press was filled with enthusiasm for its power, elasticity and low noise. But they subsided very quickly, and the company had to conduct a recall campaign related to malfunctions in the cooling system and burnout of the pistons.

Another standard ZD30 problem is related to the hydraulic poly-V-belt tensioner, which drives all attachments of this motor.

A lot of trouble can cause water ingress into diesel fuel:the electronic components inside the pump are not protected in any way, since, in theory, they should work when completely immersed in diesel fuel. Water is like death to them! And they don’t like low temperatures ... Here, for example, is a real conclusion about the ZD30 that got stuck and required a complete overhaul:"P Damage to the engine on the car was due to the extrusion of the crankshaft oil seal. The reason could be the low ambient temperature. When the engine is running at such temperatures, condensate forms in the tubes that discharge crankcase gases and, as a result, they freeze. Moreover, freezing is possible both at idle engine operation, when it cannot warm up sufficiently, and when driving along the highway at high speed, when rapid cooling occurs. The pipes froze, crankcase gases squeezed out the crankshaft oil seal, oil leaked from the engine, the liners overheated and the connecting rod was welded to the crankshaft, the engine jammed". And this is by no means an isolated case.

However, the TD28 also cannot be called a trouble-free unit. Its main diseases are considered to be cracking of the cylinder head, as well as a relatively weak injection pump, which requires a bulkhead after 300 thousand. The high-pressure fuel pump, however, is maintainable, but there are not so many places where it can be correctly sorted out. The cost of dismantling, assembling and adjusting the high pressure fuel pump at the stand is $300-325, but you may need spare parts worth up to ... 2,000. However, a new high-pressure fuel pump assembly costs $5,592. So many old cars do not start very well, they smoke, but they drive.

The same applies to the turbine. As a rule, she nurses from 300 to 400 thousand. Moreover, unlike other cars, it can drive oil with might and main, but this will not be an indicator of its death. In this state, the turbine can last for 100 thousand, or even more. But you need to understand that death can come at any moment. At disassembly, the turbine costs about $ 400, repairs with the replacement of the cartridge - about 700-800. A new turbine will cost more than $1,400.

The manual box also delivers certain inconveniences: it has very short lower gears. Both in first and in second gear, the motor instantly spins up to the red zone. As a result, when driving in the city, you have to constantly wield the gear lever, which also differs in moves, like a truck. They take care of the checkpoints for a maximum of 300 thousand kilometers, but they work to the last and for a long time they suggest that they are going to “go to the upper boxes”. Synchronizers begin to crackle, some gears fly out, but in this form the box can go another 100 thousand, and only upon opening it is found that ninety percent of the parts have long been in the dumpster.

Love # 1: "Tolerate whatever the Lord sends!"

So what happens, that very endurance and reliability of the Nissan Patrol, which the voice of the people puts in the first place in the list of virtues, should also be transferred from the category of legends to myths? After all, the car, in addition to the already mentioned problem areas, has a whole set of hereditary sores. Let's saythe anti-roll bars go for a maximum of 40 thousand. The front brake discs do not live too long, and many complain that they have to be changed almost every change of pads. The Patrol doesn't brake too well at all, especially on slippery surfaces, and the vehicle's readiness« go to the ram” write a lot.

After a run of about 300 thousand kilometers, the steering gearbox starts to flow .. Both the bulkhead in good service and the gearbox from disassembly cost 400 dollars each. 3 / 4

4 / 4

With the "Arabs" in general, you need to be careful. There are no fatal problems with them, but the thermostats here are different, and the pipes going to the rear air conditioner are guaranteed to rot in a couple of years. Often the wiring going to the rear lighting equipment rots. The rear wiper turns sour (although the motor, as a rule, does not burn out). And after such a list, how can one talk about some kind of super-reliability? But the fact of the matter is that there are grounds for such conversations!

Firstly, in the engine lineup there is such a wonderful unit as the TD42, which has no problems with either candles or the block head. All systems of this diesel engine are also duplicated. The TD42 has a very powerful electrician: neither starters nor generators fly at them, and the wiring does not rot. The electrical systems of the TD42 continue to work even after several days of sitting in the swamp "wipers".

Secondly, for many SUVs with dependent suspension, the front axle is one of the most problematic nodes. But Patrol is not one of them! At most, with a run of 150-200 thousand kilometers, the pivot bearings are guaranteed to fail, but the bridge never runs less than 150 thousand. The rear axle is so uninteresting that there is nothing to say about it ... Half shafts and main pairs almost never fail. And this also applies to cars participating in extreme off-road competitions.

Nissan Patrol Super Safari (Y61) "2017–present

That's just the legendary endurance and reliability of the Nissan Patrol can play a trick on the buyer. The fact is that Patrol for a very long time can forgive an absolutely disregard attitude: it will grunt, buzz, puff, spit smoke, tap with a broken-down suspension, but go!

As a result, acquiring a car, which at first glance is a completely self-propelled vehicle, after a while a person finds out that he actually acquired “three tons of headaches”, and it was in his hands that the car finally reached the limit of its endurance.

But one way or another, the Patrol Y61 was and remains the car in which you can “wave away on vacation to the south”, let’s say, from Siberia, and at the same time expect that the vacation will not be spoiled, but some problems if they will begin to appear, it will be possible to solve upon return. But if some major breakdown does happen, then Patrol is good because you can repair it yourself, and in the field. Even a clutch replacement can be done without a hole. For example, one of the participants of the Moscow-Magadan-Moscow expedition once covered 21,000 kilometers in a month, of which he drove 2,000 kilometers with a bridge lying on the bumpers due to broken front springs.

But the most important thing is that this car catches something in your soul, and remains in your memory for a lifetime. And here's what's interesting: among the owners of this, it would seem, to the limit of a rational and practical car, there are a lot of romantics. And let me finish by quoting one of them: “Are there any better machines? No doubt there is. However, no car gives such a feeling of reliability and indestructibility. In any case, you will never regret that you had Patrol. It really is. And it's not that it's impossible to sell it. Can. With your mind, you understand that it is difficult to find a more adequate transport in terms of costs, consumer practical properties, reliability, and safety. "Patrol" really gives faith in solid ground under your feet and wheels. This is a very unusual feeling. I do not know if I will part with this device. Probably only if life squeezes ... But the fact that I will never regret that I had it is 200% sure.

Well, the existing complaints, they say, that the car looks like a collective farm, and it can’t be found in its dynamics, and in general it’s a tractor with a leather interior, due to the fact that people simply made a mistake when choosing a car and purchased a vehicle that did not match their image life.

Nissan Patrol Y61 - more like love or more like hate?

Nissan Patrol GR Y61 (1998–2004)

Text: Andrey SUDBIN
Photo: Alexander DAVIDYUK

When we were preparing a story about the Nissan Patrol for the previous issue, we were going to include a story about the latest generation of the model. Indeed, from a technical point of view, the Patrol GR with the factory index Y61 is not so different from its predecessor, and the prices in the secondary market for the Y61 of the first releases are almost equal to the prices for the relatively fresh Y60. But when the magazine article began to swell to the size of a brochure, it was decided to move the Y61 to the next issue. Here's the whole backstory...

The designers of Nissan set about creating a new generation of the flagship of the off-road line in the second half of the 90s of the last century. It was simply impossible not to do this: competitors were not dozing, and very disturbing rumors leaked from the headquarters of the Toyota concern. However, when creating a new car, Nissan decided that it was not worth instilling good road manners into the Patrol at the expense of eternal off-road values. Maybe they just foresaw that the majority of firms would follow the “asphalt” path? Indeed, at that time, sociological data claimed that most of the owners of expensive SUVs simply never leave the asphalt.

We will go the other way...

As a result, Nissan decided to go against the elements. The company hoped to attract those customers for whom the reliability of the car and its ability to overcome "directions" were no less important than driving comfort. Well, if so, then they don’t look for good from good, and the car with the Y61 index inherited the frame and the entire chassis of the previous model without major changes. True, the driver of the Y61 was relieved of the obligation to pull on the T-handle, similar to the handbrake of cars of the 50s, and remember to re-attach the stabilizer integrity when leaving the pavement. On the new model, to open the stabilizer, it was enough to press a button, and the reverse process did occur automatically, when the speed reached 30 km / h.

Another innovation was to serve to increase the rating of the Nissan Patrol as a universal car. I'm talking about the freewheels of the front wheels. The fact is that manual switching hubs are very reliable, but inconvenient in everyday life, and it’s not worth it for the owner of an expensive car in a Brooks suit to get out of the cab and manually turn the switching flags. On the other hand, automatic clutches don't stand up to serious off-road use. To resolve this contradiction, Nissan designers have developed unique automatic hubs with the ability to force them to close.

As for the general proportions of the body, they remained the same, although the outlines of the car have changed in the most radical way. The interior design has also changed: it has become more comfortable and "richer", but the "polished" on previous models, the relative position of the seats and controls has been preserved.

Prices for Nissan Patrol Y61 in the secondary market (Moscow)
Year of issue Price dispersion, USD
1998 19 000–26 500
1999 23 800–29 000
2000 24 500–32 500
2001 31 000–33 500
2002 32 000–37 500
2003 37 500–45 000

But instead of a heart?

At first, the Nissan Patrol Y61 inherited the range of engines from its predecessor. For Europe, the RD28T turbodiesel with a volume of 2826 cm3 was mainly intended, and for other markets, the TB45E gasoline “six” with a volume of 4.5 liters and the TD42 diesel engine.

The official debut of the model took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and a presentation for journalists took place in the fall of 1997 in Barcelona. At the same time, its serial production began in two forms - a three-door short-wheelbase and a five-door long-wheelbase. These cars belonged to the 1998 model year, and therefore, in the subject literature, as a rule, it is indicated that the Nissan Patrol Y61 has been produced since 1998. Well, in the year of the new millennium, Patrol received a new power unit - a 4-cylinder ZD30 turbodiesel with a displacement of 2953 cm3, intercooling of the charged air, direct fuel injection controlled by the injection pump electronics, and a combustion chamber in the piston. This engine developed 158 hp. at 3600 rpm and produced 354 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. In 2003, another change took place in the line of engines: instead of the 4.5-liter “six” TB42, the TB48 engine with a volume of 4759 cm3 and a power of 245 hp went to the conveyor. By the way, the only country in Europe where cars with this engine are delivered is Russia.

Seven years on the market is a long time, and the cars, called the "new Patrol", are starting to change their owners. So what threatens the purchase of such an SUV? Experts testify that there is nothing to be afraid of, although the Patrol Y61 still has some problems.

Black label

We will start, as always, with the engines. The merits and demerits of the RD28T, which was installed on cars from 1998-1999, are well known, and we described them in detail in the last issue of the magazine. In order to “repeat what has been done”, let’s just say that their cylinder head cracks and burns out, and the high-pressure fuel pump, as a rule, requires a bulkhead after 300 thousand kilometers. However, the Patrol Y61 with such mileage is not yet on the market, so buying a car with a “sick” injection pump is unlikely. For the same reasons, turbine problems are unlikely to occur. Well, replacing after buying a timing belt and rollers is a procedure recommended for all models and engines. In any case, this must be done after every 100 (and in our conditions - after every 90) thousand kilometers. Recall that the replacement work costs $ 90, the original belt - 1200 rubles in the store and $ 75 at the dealer. Rollers will cost 1,500 rubles original or 1,000 rubles non-original.

As for the ZD30 turbodiesel, the first enthusiasm about its power, elasticity and low noise subsided rather quickly. The company even had to conduct a recall campaign related to malfunctions in the cooling system and piston burnout. In general, when buying a car with such an engine, it is advisable to immediately check whether all the necessary manipulations have been done on this car to replace a potentially defective unit. The piston groups of the "old" and "new" types differ in appearance, but in order to see this, you need to disassemble the engine, you guessed it. Fortunately, all dealers have a database that allows you to check if the piston group has been replaced on a given machine. In addition, special marks were placed on cars that passed through the campaign. Most likely, these works have already been completed on the car that you have looked at, but there is still some possibility that the car was not serviced by an authorized dealer after import and did not pass the campaign. In this case, you will need 5850 rubles for a set of oil scraper rings and 2670 rubles for each piston.

Water in a solarium

Another standard ZD30 problem is related to the hydraulic poly-V-belt tensioner, which drives all attachments of this motor. According to statistics, it is this node that accounts for most of the warranty repairs. If the previous owner of the car was lucky and the tensioner did not cause him any trouble, which cannot be said about you (that is, problems gradually accumulated), then prepare 4,750 rubles for a new tensioner or 2,490 rubles if you can get by with replacing the damper, plus some amount for the work. However, the main cause of the diseases of this engine is water in diesel fuel. Of course, the amount of moisture that is formed from condensate in the tank is determined by the sensor and is not something fatal, but if one and a half to two liters of H2O gets into the tank, then this is a completely different story. The electronic components inside the pump are not protected in any way, since, in theory, they should work when completely immersed in diesel fuel. Water is like death to them! The nozzles of the ZD30 are non-separable and change only as a whole. They cost 11,950 rubles apiece, but glow plugs are inexpensive - 900 rubles each. Fortunately, this engine can be diagnosed by the Consult system by simply connecting a computer to the appropriate connector. Of course, not all parameters are read, but most of the most important indicators can be determined without disassembling the machine. This procedure is not too expensive, and it is unreasonable to neglect it when buying. There are no special problems with the body kit (generator, starter), everything is the same as for all models. The generator is located on the right side at the top and does not suffer too much from pollution. Sooner or later, the owner of a turbodiesel car will have to deal with a turbine failure. The "original" unit costs 32,970 rubles, and the "non-original" unit costs 27,000.

Fantastic reliability

There is practically no data on the statistics of breakdowns of TB45 and TB48 gasoline engines. In Russia, 4.5-liter engines are quite rare, since cars equipped with them were not officially delivered to us, and cars with a 4.8-liter engine are still too young.

As for other systems, primarily the chassis and transmission, then, as I said, they are almost the same as their predecessor, the Patrol Y60, famous for its fantastic reliability. Moreover, the front axle ("Achilles' heel" of so many SUVs) on the 61st model received more powerful constant velocity joints and became even more reliable. In the previous issue, we described in sufficient detail all the problems of the predecessor. Most likely, over time, these same diseases will become characteristic of Y61.

And hubs again

So far, only two specific "sores" of the model can be mentioned. First, the openable rear anti-roll bars become loose and begin to knock. The most curious thing is that this backlash practically does not affect the behavior of the car on the road. But if it comes to replacement, then you will have to pay 58,580 rubles. Secondly, hubs can fail. Most often, this happens solely through the fault of the owners, who are too lazy to switch them from Auto mode to Lock mode when going off-road. There is nothing surprising in this, because in this case, Patrol GR freewheels begin to behave in exactly the same way as any automatic clutches. A breakdown of the hub will lighten your wallet by 9450 rubles. By the way, cars imported from the Middle East often do not have freewheels at all, and instead of these devices there are ordinary flanges that ensure constant engagement of the front wheels with the axle shafts.

workhorse

New owners should take into account that the Patrol Y61 body repair is somewhat more expensive than in the case of its predecessor. So, the front fenders cost 10,500 rubles each, the rear ones - 24,360 each, the thresholds are supplied only with the doorway and cost 25,710. The lighting equipment is also more expensive: headlights cost 6,600 rubles, and taillights - 1,950 rubles.

Average prices for used Patrol Y61s have already fallen quite a bit compared to new car prices, but they are still far from the critical $10,000 milestone. So is it worth buying such a car? In my opinion, if you need a reliable “workhorse” for hunting trips, summer cottages and travel, while at the same time comfortable enough for daily use in the city, and you can afford to spend about 20 thousand dollars on a car, then the answer should be unconditionally positive. After all, problems of a criminal nature in relation to these machines are extremely rare, and serious financial investments after the purchase, as a rule, are not required. In any case, it is quite possible to find a 1998-2000 Patrol Y61 in excellent condition.

Just the perfect fit
Valentin SHMIGELSKY. Nissan Patrol (2001) 3.0L engine (diesel), automatic transmission, five-door body

With this purchase, I realized my long-cherished dream. From the moment the release of Nissan Patrol began, I just fell ill with them. I had a bunch of cars, but Patrol gives me the most pleasure. I haven't had any problems with him yet. Before that, the only diesel car I had was Mitsubishi Pajero, and I suffered with it, but Patrol did not disappoint even in these frosts. For a family, for a summer residence, for fishing - in a word, just a universal machine. The capacity is huge - you folded the seats, and take whatever you want to the dacha. Well, since we constantly go fishing and carry boats with us, Patrol is an ideal option for this. You drag a ton behind you, but the car doesn’t even feel it. I travel around Moscow quite a lot and often, and I don’t feel any problems with dimensions. They often say: “Oh, big car”, but in fact it is very easy to drive.

I have the emirates version
Dmitry LYSAKOV. Nissan Patrol (1998) 4.5L engine (gasoline), automatic transmission, five-door body

I have this car for exactly a year, I registered it last February. The car was born in Russia, in Moscow, so it rotted, and the body had to be welded and painted, especially since the car had never known anticorrosive. I had to do something mechanically. When I bought the car, there was a gas pump from a Zhiguli. Now from the Volga. The guides turned sour in the brakes, but it cost the purchase of rubber bands. The "automatic" works, of course, I changed the oil in it. Now I don’t really like how the hubs work, sometimes they tap, but they tell me that they can be sorted out. And so far, nothing has broken in a big way.

Pad replacement only
Roman KOVALEV. Nissan Patrol (2000) 3.0L engine (diesel), manual transmission, three-door

Current mileage is 76,000. I have been driving a Nissan Patrol for a long time, since 1993, and moved to the Y61 in 2000 and am not going to change the brand. In these machines, I am most attracted by the price-quality ratio and reliability. The car has been in Russia since birth, and so far it hasn’t broken anything major. In general, cars with a 2.8 engine have problems with the injection pump and with the block head, which can crack between the valves, and antifreeze begins to knock out of these cracks. The second "sore" is freewheels, which often fail due to improper operation. Everything else about these machines is reliable. The three-liter engine has problems with the intercooler and the turbine, which rarely takes care of more than 150 thousand.

I am not a racer
Vladimir POLYAKOV. Nissan Patrol (1997) 2.8L engine (diesel), manual transmission, three-door

The car was released at the end of 1997, that is, it is from the very first series. In Russia since 1999. The car had two owners: the first was a Belgian, the second was me. The mileage of the car is 220 thousand kilometers, of which I hit about 180 thousand. The car never let me down anywhere, and basically only consumables changed. There were no problems with the engine, although I know that many people have had problems with the cylinder head. But, firstly, I am not a racer, I try not to force the car, I drive a maximum of 120–130 on the highway and I think that this is quite enough. On moderate off-road - no problems, but where the tractor will not pass, why bother? On the track, the short-wheelbase still "goats" slightly, five-door cars go softer. In the city - no problems, except that the Patrol is generally harsh. He eats little, has enough maneuverability, parking, especially in winter, is not difficult - he drove into any snowdrift and parked it.

For those who decide to become a jeep and choose an off-road vehicle for rides and cannot decide whether to buy a Nissan Patrol y61, this article has been written in which we will deal in detail with all the advantages and disadvantages of the Nissan Patrol Y61.

Usually on the Internet everyone talks about this Patrol 61 as a legendary SUV, reliable, passable and safe. It was like this back in the 90s, now it is unlikely that it will be possible to find a really worthwhile car, but if you want and have money, you can do it.

For those who are going to mix dirt and take part in pokatushki, it is necessary to properly prepare the car. First you need to find a more or less good condition Patrol y61 and modify it to the state of an SUV. It is better to buy a stock car that has not yet participated in off-road rides, it will have a better condition. And then you just need to buy off-road equipment and install it on the car.

But you need to understand that the stock Patrol, like any other jeep, will not go through soft mud, in which highway tires slip. In addition, there is a possibility that the car will bury itself, because the Patrol weighs about 2.5 tons and has a long wheelbase. There is even a video on this topic, how difficult it is to get out of such soft mud later:

In general, to prevent this from happening, the Nissan Patrol 61 still needs to be finalized, and this will cost a lot of money - about half the cost of the car. Here's what you need to buy and do:

  • increase ground clearance - make an elevator;
  • install 35 inch wheels;
  • install a snorkel for those who are going to drive into the swamp;
  • put a bumper with a winch;
  • body and bottom protection;
  • it is necessary to change the main pairs so that the 35th wheels function normally.

All this off-road equipment costs quite a lot of money, if these parts are not Chinese and the installation work will also cost money. But for real jeepers, these are all trifles and everyday problems that can be easily fixed.

Nissan Patrol 3-door short wheelbase

For those who decide to conquer the impenetrable off-road, the short-wheelbase Nissan Patrol 61 body is better suited, it has a smaller mass, so it is more likely not to get stuck in a swamp and mud. It also rides well on public roads, on snow, etc. Almost all off-road performance depends on rubber, if it is toothed, then the car has every chance of driving through mud.

In general, the Nissan Patrol u61 combines utility, comfort, aggressive appearance and the possibility for serious tuning. But anyway, don’t tune the car, almost everything depends on the driver’s skills to drive off-road.

Motor reliability

Many people think that the diesel 4.2-liter engine that is in the Nissan Patrol y61 is a millionaire, but in fact it is not. This is a 6-cylinder engine, but its resource really does not exceed 500,000 km. In addition, it is not very powerful, and the car rides sluggishly with it, the only thing that is good about it is the torque and unpretentiousness on fuel quality, which make this engine ideal for mud riding. There are configurations with a conventional TD42 diesel engine, turbocharged TD42T and TD42Ti engines.

Off-road benefits

An excellent option for buying is the diesel Arabic Nissan Patrol 61 body of 2010 with a TD42 engine, it is great for off-road, but it has few options, there is a manual transmission.

In addition, the Arab diesel Patrols have options such as an additional fuel tank, there is a volume of 45 and 90 liters. This means that the car will be able to drive on the highway for about 1500 km.

As for the spaciousness of the cabin, thanks to the 2 benches that stand behind the second row of seats, at least 9 people can fit in the car.

In addition to these diesel engines in the Nissan Patrol u61, you can also find diesel engines with a volume of 2.8 and 3 liters. But they have even less power and traction, and in terms of reliability, they do not differ from the 4.2-liter engine.

The 2.8-liter RD28T engine has 6 cylinders and a turbine, but this engine does not have much power for such a large car. But for a 3-door Patrol u61 - such a motor is just right. Also, this motor has a drawback - if it overheats, it starts to drive its head. Therefore, you can often find configurations in which this motor and intercooler are installed. But for those who don’t specifically kill the motor, don’t overload it off-road, and don’t allow it to overheat, there is good news - it will serve itself for quite a long time, at least 500,000 km.

But the 3-liter ZD30 engine is considered truly legendary. Its history began in 1999, in those years this engine was considered one of the most advanced diesel engines. This motor was installed on many other cars, it is constantly being improved. But when he first came out, he also had a lot of jambs. It happened that it burned out, and there were also cases that the piston group collapsed, so often such defective motors were recalled and redone. Nissan quickly tried to correct all these shortcomings so that there was no total failure. Already in 2000, the oil pan was increased from 5.5 liters to 8.2, and the oil dipstick was lengthened.

But still, the owners of the Nissan Patrol u61 continued to have problems with the engine, so the engineers decided to change the design of the piston group, this happened already in 2004. Other improvements were also made. But while they were improving this motor, it had already become morally obsolete. Therefore, the engineers came to the conclusion that something more global had to be done, and in 2006 they made the ZD30CRD motor with the Common-rail system. It has already been made more thoughtfully, the power has become a little more, but it has become much more reliable.

The characteristics of the ZD30 diesel engine are really the best in the line of engines for the Patrol u61, there is just enough power and torque for such a heavy SUV. Exactly what is enough, but I want the power to be in abundance. There are also some difficulties in maintaining the ZD30, the design is not so simple, so if this motor has to be repaired, then only qualified specialists will be needed.

Of course, there are also ZD30 motors with a mileage of more than 300,000 km, but no capital was made, but these are quite rare cases. But if you manage to find a live motor and properly care for it in the future, then it will last a long time.

By the way, many owners of the Nissan Patrol u61 know that the ZD30 engine lends itself perfectly to tuning, you can do chip tuning, thanks to which the power will increase to 200 hp. from. At the same time, there will be no damage to the motor, and taxes are paid based on the base power - 160 hp. from.

In Russia, there are quite a lot of U61 Patrols with a ZD30 engine, because these configurations were officially sold, so you can find a car with a good engine. For those who took a car with a dead engine, you can do these things to confidently drive off-road:

  • make a major overhaul;
  • find a new motor and just change the old one for a new one;
  • You can make a swap, for example, put a Toyota engine.

But all these ways to revive a dead engine are quite expensive, they will cost 2000 - 4000 dollars. That is, about half the cost of the car. The cheapest option would be to do the overhaul yourself, but for this you need to be able to do it.

In general, you should not buy a Nissan Patrol with a ZD30 engine if the car is older than 2004, and if the mileage is more than 200,000 km, then you should not take such a car either. If you are not well versed in diesel engines, but you are going to drive in extreme conditions. You should not take a car with such an engine if your region does not have high-quality fuel and there is no good service.

You can buy a Patrol u61 with this engine if its native mileage is less than 100,000 km, you are not going to drive off-road, you understand diesel engines or you can do a swap.

Gasoline engines in Nissan Patrol u61

In addition to diesel engines, there are also gasoline ones, but real jeepers, of course, drive diesel fuel. There are 3 petrol engines and they are all 6-cylinder in-line design:

  • TB42S;
  • TB45S;
  • TB48DE.

Reliability is no worse than that of a diesel TD42. But gasoline configurations are quite rare and they have high fuel consumption.

Reliability of the Nissan Patrol U61 with a gasoline engine

In general, the 61st Patrol is a fairly reliable jeep, but there are still some features. For 8 years now, this body has been discontinued. Therefore, you can only buy such a car used, and as a rule, it is rarely found in good condition, because such a car is usually bought only by those people who subject it to constant stress.

If you often drive off-road, then after 3 years of such rides, the car can turn into very shabby trash. Also, the mileage here can be easily twisted. When buying such a car, you also need to look at the owner, because what kind of owner, such a car. If he is greedy, then he saved on car maintenance. If untidy, it means that he treated the car in the same way.

Before buying, you must definitely look at the condition of the chassis and body so that it is not rusty. As for the running gear, in order to kill it, you still have to try, but you still need to check it.

Inexpensive service Nissan Patrol u61

What else is good about the Patrol is its inexpensive price tag for maintenance, spare parts for it are inexpensive, but you still have to pay for the work of the masters. Therefore, it will be a big plus if you yourself understand and can repair the car yourself.

Many spare parts for Patrol are even suitable for domestic cars and other foreign cars, so you can save a little. But the fuel consumption of the car is huge, so you still have to spend money on it.

But auto mechanics will most of all breed for money, because they see that the car is expensive, which means that its owner has money and will breed for serious money, and if you go to the officials, they will generally rip it to the skin, they will say that it is necessary to do a major overhaul.

Therefore, with these devils, the main thing is not to be a sucker, because they can sell a penny part for serious money if you do not understand your car. A more or less competent specialist can make such a detail in 5 minutes or find an inexpensive analogue.

For example, if service workers see errors in the fuel system, they can easily start offering to change the high-pressure fuel pump, it will cost 250,000 rubles, and the problem can be very banal - a contact has disappeared somewhere or air has formed in the system. And in general, the high-pressure fuel pump can be repaired, the main thing is that the master is normal. Therefore, we must not rush to pay money, but try to figure it out at least a little. And it is even better to find friends-masters who will not breed you.

The most important thing is not to buy such a car for the last money, and even more so, you don’t have to get into debt. You need to understand that if you buy a used car, you should have the same amount of money left to repair and replace consumables just in case.

Which gearbox to choose: automatic or manual?

For a real jeep, it is better to take a car with a manual transmission, but if the car is taken not only for off-road, but also for everyday driving, then you can take it with an automatic transmission, especially when driving such a large car around the city it will not be solid pull the handle every time.

Also, off-road in the mud, it’s easier to get under way with an automatic transmission. In addition, a 4-speed automatic is considered more reliable than a manual, in which you often have to change the clutch, and the flywheel is not very reliable.

In addition, the 4-speed automatic transmission is adaptive and remembers the driver's driving style. If the box is serviceable, then it will not have pushes or kicks. In general, it is better to take the Patrol with a machine gun. But a mechanical gearbox also has its advantages - a car with mechanics can tow 3.5 tons of weight, and an automatic one - 2.5.

Also, if the car is on the mechanics, then it can be safely towed, as well as started from a pusher, this will not work with an automatic transmission.

What are the configurations of Nissan u61

All configurations of the 61st Patrol are quite good, even the basic configurations come with power accessories. The top-end equipment with full minced meat comes with a 4.8-liter gasoline engine, as a rule they were delivered to the United Arab Emirates, and you rarely see them in Russia and the CIS, although they were officially delivered.

In this Arab configuration with a 4.8-liter engine, a new 5-speed automatic transmission with tiptronic was installed at that time. There is also cruise control, 2 gas tanks, a navigation system and other useful options.

Diesel engines

With diesel trim levels, things are a little different - only 2 trim levels were sold in Russia: the basic Luxury and the maximum Elegance. For off-road it is better to take Luxury, it has a rag interior, a manual transmission and a bunch of plastic. But Elegance is more comfortable equipment, it has leather, wood, automatic transmission, there is a sunroof. both sets are the same.

The Elegance trim with a bright interior looks best, but the top-end petrol version will still be better.

You should not buy a Nissan Patrol 61st body if:

  • no money for maintenance and no friends who can repair the car;
  • and in general, if you are not going to drive off-road, there are other more interesting cars for city driving.

It is worth buying such a car for those who:

  • considers himself a jeeper or decided to become a jeeper;
  • often goes hunting or fishing in distant forests;
  • loves to tune and refine cars, there is always something to refine in this car;
  • long dreamed about this car.

And if you are a major and like to filth around the city at night, then it is better to take Gelik or another sports car. Patrol is taken by jeepers and those who are not in a hurry.

Review Nissan 4.6 gasoline (Nissan Patrol) 2009 Part 2

So the warranty period of possession of this car has passed. What can be added to what was said earlier. Mileage for children — 30500. The run is due to the fact that the car itself is problematic (my copy), and not the only one in use.

Now, in order and honestly about everything.

Disadvantages that cannot be eliminated in the process are vibration on the steering wheel when driving on a highway at a speed of 95-105 km. The steering wheel just twitches and the impact on the body. Five claims to the dealer did not fix the situation. The response of the service is the rubber curve. We put a winter set of wheels with disks - everything is the same. We balance in three different places. There are no improvements. By the way, no comments.

Strengths:

  • Comfort
  • patency
  • Brutality in everything

Weak sides:

  • Reliability is just no
  • Weak LC coating

Review of Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 Di Turbo (Nissan Patrol) 2007

Good day, dear guests and participants of the forum!

Having written my first review about the car that I now operate, it would be completely ugly to forget about the Nissan Patrol, which served me faithfully until March of this year. It is probably necessary to start with how the car was chosen.

I will write in advance that before buying Patrol, I had only VAZ cars at my disposal (I drove VAZ-2101, 2105 and 2115), which, however, did not leave sunny memories. The need for an SUV arose in connection with official business: the need to travel over rough terrain, mainly in the protected areas of the neighboring Republic of Kalmykia (who knows what Ekiburul, Zlaturgan and other outlandish places are, he will understand what I mean). I was not going to participate in rally raids and looked after the car as a reliable, workhorse for road and off-road. At the same time, the existing level of savings made it possible to rely on the purchase of a foreign-made car. In addition, I wanted to know what a diesel engine is. So, based on the available savings, one could consider Nissan Pathfinder, Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and (with a stretch) Volvo XC90 (I understand that the last car is not at all a utilitarian SUV, but it was very attractive from the standpoint of appearance and security).

Strengths:

  • Good cross
  • Roomy interior
  • high rise
  • Reliability and unpretentiousness in operation

Weak sides:

  • Weak engine
  • Lack of permanent all-wheel drive
  • Outdated gearbox and audio system
  • Weak low beam
  • Uncomfortable folding of the second and third row seats

Review Nissan 4.6 gasoline (Nissan Patrol) 2009

Good day to all who read this review.

This car was chosen very long and painstakingly. Although there is nothing special to choose in this model: 3 liters of diesel or 4.6 gasoline. As a result, after analyzing the information received from various sources, it was found that the diesel seems to be more economical (the city is declared - 14.5 per 100, gasoline - 25 per 100), the torque is almost the same, the difference in l / s is 85 plus for gasoline. Gasoline is also equipped with a 5-speed tiptronic, in contrast to the 4-speed automatic. Everything else is the same in terms of configuration and dimensions. It was not possible to pass a comparative test drive due to the lack of a gasoline version as such. And yet the choice is made in favor of the petrol version. This was based on: a large volume does not frighten, there is an American 5.2 liters, the quality of diesel fuel is terrible, and also an ominous winter, when it’s frosty in the morning at 30. It was also noticed that previous patrols with a diesel engine were very frequent at the service station. And in general, for this money, I also didn’t want to study chemistry in order to competently use gels and additives. As a result, the petrol version. Yes, you can say that he went crazy. It's not the same for everybody.

More about feelings. Salon: black leather, wood and aluminum inserts. Somewhat angular, but in my opinion if you fell for the Patrol, it means you like the design. The landing is very comfortable, high, the driver has as many as 9 adjustments. I don’t remember the passenger, like 6. Finding a comfortable position is not a problem, on long trips, for which I took it, you don’t get tired. 4 row of seats allows 2 men to sit quite comfortably, but climbing is not very convenient. When fully loaded, the trunk is very small, which is not encouraging. Since we only drove full at the premiere to friends, it was decided to remove the 3rd row altogether. In the event that the entire volume is needed, then the 2nd row does not add up to a flat floor, a step is obtained, which is not very convenient. Visibility forward and to the sides is good. Nothing is visible back, except for the wheel and the junction of swing doors. Mirrors are good, but still small. The right mirror does not lower when moving backwards, which was disappointing, because this is very lacking due to the high ground clearance.

Strengths:

  • Real frame SUV
  • Practical
  • brutal

Weak sides:

  • Transport tax
  • Turning radius

Review of Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 Di Turbo (Nissan Patrol) 2007

Well, I moved from Ford Explorer to Nissan Patrol and I can say that I did not regret it. The dynamics, of course, are not the same, but this is the only, if I may say so, minus, but - a spacious interior, a huge trunk (And after taking out the third row of seats, it’s just a fairy tale. Why is it set by default at all? Is it really impossible to make it as an option ?! ).
I drive around the city calmly, after I got used to the dimensions and the fact that the right side of OKA-type cars is not visible when they drive near the front wheel.
It’s wonderful on the track, up to a certain point, until the speed is up to 120 km / h, and then hold me seven, just like a locomotive derailed, a very dangerous activity in general, and it’s not his business to dissect at such a speed, there is another purpose , namely off-road.

This is where he shows himself ... no, first he shows that the rubber needs to be changed at least for A / T, and then he already shows that he is capable of a lot, even in the standard version. Although if you go to serious pampas, then the final one, but those fellows who go there already know what and where to fasten;)

The main thing is that the design of the suspension allows you not to slow down on uneven and even very uneven roads and without a road, the main thing is to have time to catch the car, because. back rearranges at times.

Strengths:

  • Big car :)
  • Weak sides:

  • The third row of seats in the basic configuration - IMHO of course

  • Very easily soiled interior - it is not clear why, but I just evaporated to clean it, although before that there were cars with a black interior

  • No cabin air filter

in February 2007, after a long choice between cars Nissan Murano, Pathfinder and Patrol, Toyota Prado, Mitsubishi Podgero 4, Subaru Tribeca and Ford Explorer, a worthy car Nissan Patrol was chosen - an eternal car with an indestructible suspension and a reliable diesel engine D 3.0 . But it turned out that I became the proud owner of the Patrol in just 10 days, because. after registering with the traffic police and successfully passing the technical inspection, a new car with numbers and a technical coupon for 3 years parked near work with the engine idling safely died, the most reliable engine jammed.

(Some kind of oil pipe broke in the engine, which subsequently led to engine failure). And long telephone conversations began with the salon and other representatives of the Nissan company. The Nissan company, showing concern, offered to send a tow truck for a broken Nissan car, but probably having calculated the evacuation route (about 3,000 km to the nearest Nissan dealer), they decided to abandon this idea and offered to wait half a year until summer navigation. I had to solve this problem myself (because drowning people always help themselves, even if there are rescuers), hire a cargo car, load it into the body and transport the broken car back to the salon, having previously phoned and offered to replace it with another car car, even agreed with the surcharge.

But upon arrival at the salon, it turned out not to be so simple and the exchange was not made. Having sent a written claim to terminate the sale and purchase agreement, I did not receive an answer, only assurances that this problem was being solved, and after a month there was no result. And then a miracle happens, an offer comes from the salon that they agree to return the money for the car and the installed additional equipment, but minus the cost of engine repair, explaining that a broken oil pipe is a warranty repair, and engine repair is at your expense, because the happy owner of a Nissan Patrol car should not take his eyes off the instrument panel for a single minute, because it is possible that the control lights will light up due to some malfunctions, these are the warranty obligations of the Nissan Company as interpreted by the salon service managers.

    Strengths:

  • Large and attractive car
  • Weak sides:

  • Unreliability of the diesel engine 3.0

  • Terrible warranty service
  • Review of Nissan Patrol GR 3.0 Di Turbo (Nissan Patrol) 2007

The choice of car was made long ago and consciously, the lifestyle suggests the presence of an SUV. All jeeps before it are a preparatory introductory stage and a compromise between the desires and the possibilities of the wallet. So, 2005, 3 liter turbodiesel 160 hp, automatic, leather. Drove to date 12,000 km and can report the following.

Apparently it just coincided so that the previous owner and I have approximately the same views on the necessary and sufficient things that a car should have, so from the extra on the car it was - tastefully and properly done tinting, tow bar, turbo timer, rear parking sensors, an alarm system in addition to the regular one immobilizer, native, controlled from the same remote control as the central lock. No fake kengurins, light bulbs, TVs, subwoofers, etc.

The car, of course, is very specific. You have to want to buy it, and only it and nothing else, because, in my opinion, convincing someone to take this car just like that is not possible, there is no compromise. If you can choose between Outlander and IhTrailoim and CARV, or Lancer-Corolla-Almera, then here - either Patrol or nothing ... ... if, of course, funds allow. Probably the same can be said about any iconic car, but I never had any doubts about this car. One minus - now there is nothing more to want.

    Strengths:

  • Reliable, decades-proven design

  • Fuel consumption

  • The price-quality ratio is one of the best on the market

  • Security

  • Not theft
  • Weak sides: Little things that do not affect the speed and safety.

Strengths: Unpretentious, gives you the opportunity for unlimited tuning, solid, simple and inexpensive to repair, goes great on the highway, great off-road, RELIABLE to disgrace!!!

Weak sides: In the city, the dimensions make themselves felt, after lifting the rolls in the corners but not critical, the consumption of gasoline in the city is 16-18l. GAS must be installed.

It is impossible to create a car that can solve all problems. Manufacturers are well aware of this. Therefore, in the lineup of many brands, there are both light SUVs and pickups, as well as real SUVs, and even then of different versions. A similar picture can be observed in the assortment of Toyota and Mitsubishi. Nissan did the same, appointing the off-road flagship Nissan Patrol.

The utility vehicle was produced for decades until an entirely new design appeared in 1988. It was the GR, which became more comfortable (springs instead of springs) and acquired quality interior trim materials.

In 1998, another incarnation of the luxurious Nissan Patrol debuted. Like its predecessor, the new model was offered in 3 and 5-door body styles. They differ significantly in wheelbase and dimensions, but it is worth emphasizing that the 3-door modification is by no means small. The “short” Patrol is a fairly large car that offers quite decent conditions for travel and a small trunk. It is easy to guess that the "long" Nissan Patrol is a real giant. An additional advantage is 700 kg of payload.

Of course, there are also disadvantages. Large sizes create certain difficulties when maneuvering. And the point here is not only in the turning radius, but also in a mediocre sense of dimensions. Does not differ in comfort and chassis. If you have to cover only short distances during the week, and go off-road on weekends, then such a renunciation is acceptable. Long trips are complicated by the lack of an adequate level of comfort and inaccurate steering. The reason is a very strong chassis design (engineers used two rigid axles), a simple transmission and a large mass.

If someone is going to use the Nissan Patrol for other purposes, then you should think carefully before buying. Look at the engines. The dynamics of the base diesel 2.8-liter engine leaves much to be desired. Slightly faster car with a 3-liter turbodiesel. But its 17 seconds to 100 km/h doesn't quite live up to expectations either.

On long-distance routes, average fuel consumption is very important. The Japanese SUV is large and very heavy (almost 2.5 tons), with a high drag coefficient, and therefore not economical. Dynamic driving on the highway ends with a result of 15-17 liters per 100 km. Even if you try to save money, it is unlikely that you will be able to achieve a value of less than 9 l / 100 km, and the average diesel fuel consumption is close to 12 l / 100 km.

Petrol modifications are a little faster, however, they are much less common on the market. As for consumption, even the manufacturer indicates a value of more than 18 liters.

All the shortcomings of the Nissan Patrol cease to matter when you have to move off the asphalt. Frame chassis with solid axles and a rigidly connected front axle, an unlockable electromechanical stabilizer, a transfer case and a rear differential lock. If you use all this arsenal, then little can stop the Japanese "all-terrain vehicle".

Off-road tires will be a great addition, especially in combination with minor modifications. This is probably one of the best cars for tuning. Without any problems, you can purchase a modified suspension, locks, snorkel, trunk and much more.

Off-road does not greatly affect the health of the Nissan Patrol. However, sometimes the automatic transmission electronics and the open stabilizer control system fail. The latter fails even due to street dirt, however, you can ride without it. But in general, these are not too problematic components.

More serious damage is caused not by off-road trips, but by aggressive driving at high speeds. It does not benefit and prolonged load when towing a trailer. Engines are prone to overheating. For a 2.8-liter unit, this may result in cracks in the head, and for a 3-liter unit, piston melting. Many cars have already gone through the engine replacement procedure. Unfortunately, new motors are not completely free from the defect.

Introduced in 2000, the 3-liter turbodiesel (ZD30) was the exact opposite of its 2.8-liter predecessor. Engineers relied on compactness - 4 cylinders instead of 6. The power unit received a 16-valve head, direct injection with high pressure fuel pumps and Nissan M-Fire technology (Modilated Fire - adjustable air supply through one of the two intake valves, exhaust gas recirculation system and late injection fuel - after the piston has passed top dead center).

Everything would be great if there were no malfunctions. The pistons are oil-cooled and the cooling system is pushed to its limits. In cars of the initial period of production, pistons often burned out. A year later, in 2001, the manufacturer upgraded the engine, but more effective changes were made only in 2004. Mechanics claim that after that the motor became less likely to overheat, and, consequently, the number of burnouts also decreased. Interestingly, the troubles occurred mainly while towing a trailer on the highway at high speed.

The next engine upgrade took place in 2007. Then the Common Rail injection system was used. Among the shortcomings of the new version of the motor, one can single out the not very durable poly-V-belt tensioner. Fortunately, the number of defects in the oil pressure sensor has been reduced - often found in cars of the initial period of production.

How to protect yourself from malfunctions? First of all, it is necessary to regularly monitor the condition of the lubrication system and the cooling system. You should change the oil more often and install an additional pressure sensor.

Maybe, given such a significant drawback, you should generally abandon the idea of \u200b\u200bbuying a Nissan Patrol? Not worth it as otherwise it is a very good car. It does not have global problems with corrosion, and the turbocharger is highly survivable. Slight corrosion of the lamp contacts in the rear bumper (the entire harness to be replaced) or worn bushings and stabilizer struts - these are really trifles for a long-term car.

    Conclusion

Nissan Patrol, even after restyling, is not very suitable for moving around the streets of a modern city. Large dimensions and rigid bridges are not fun. A simple transmission performs best off-road, not on pavement. In addition, the Japanese SUV is too heavy and slow.

But there are situations in which Patrol is indispensable. These are hiking trips over long distances. In general, the car is quite durable, and many copies have good equipment.
